Upgrading SCOM 2012 SP1 agent to SCOM 2012 R2

Hello All
We have created a new SCOM 2012 R2 environment and now planning to upgrade our agents which are in SCOM 2012 SP1 environment . We want to keep the agents dual homed for some time . I would like to know if there is any kind of automation/script that someone
has already made to upgrade SCOM agent from SP1 to R2 ,and at the same time have it dual homed (pointing to 2 MG)

You may try
1) upgrade the SCOM agent by
msiexec /i MOMAgent.msi /qn /l*v D:\logs\AgentUpgrade.log  AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1
2) Add additional management group y using following vb script
Option Explicit
Dim objMSConfig
Set objMSConfig = CreateObject("AgentConfigManager.MgmtSvcCfg")
‘Add a management group
Call objMSConfig.AddManagementGroup ("MyManagementGroupToAdd", "company.sm.net",5723)

    Hi,
Reinstall the agent, and the uninstall ? If possible, reboot the server and then uninstall?

  • Error 25211. Failed to install performance counters while trying to remove a 2012 SP1 agent from system.

I have a system that has the "Repair and Uninstall" options grayed out from the Management Server (2012 SP-1) and if I go to the system itself, I have tried repairing the Agent Installation (Does not work successfully) and I now am trying to "uninstall"
the agent from the system.   I keep getting about 1/2 way through the uninstall and an error opens that "Cannot install performance counters".    The system is Windows 2003 Standard Edition SP2.   The system also
has a SCOM 2007 directory locally that cannot be deleted because a log file is in use.  There are no other agents locally on the system through "Add / Remove Programs" within Control Panel.
    A little history.
We have two Environments (2012 R2 and the other 2012-SP1).  Some system were "Dual-Homed".   This one was not.  I am trying to uninstall the SP-1 agent so we can move it to the R2 environment.   It previously had MOM
2005 agent tha was uninstalled and it appears to have had a 2007 agent installed at some point, but only the trace directory that I can find.
I have tried rebuild commands for performance counter and it appears to be functioning correctly.

    Hi,
Can you see the agent under pending management? You may upgrade the agent through the console.
When you upgrade an agent, the Operations Manager installer service runs and is not removed until after the completion of the upgrade. If the agent upgrade fails, you might have to re-install the agent because the installer service was not properly removed.
If you attempt to upgrade the agent again and it fails, you should re-install the agent after you have completed upgrading all features of Operations Manager.
After rebuilding performance counter by following the link below, you may try to uninstall the agent and check the result:

  • SCOM : Issues while upgrading SCOM agent from 2012SP1 to R2

    Hi,
We have upgraded SCOM setup from SP1 to R2 but facing issues with agent upgrade.
We were able to view only ~70% agents in pending management (Agent requires update).
Further, when I tried to upgrade agents through console, some are successfully upgraded but rest are giving
    error.
Can someone help me to understand why all agents are not appearing in pending management for upgrade?
I also tried to upgrade agent manually but no luck. It gives error "The path 'C:\Windows\.........\monagent.msi'
can not be found. Verify that you have access to location and try again or try to find installation package.........". , though I had logged into server with admin access.
Also most of servers are remotely manageable but unable to upgrade through console.
    Thanks,
    Priya

    Hi Priya,
I understand you require the Agent data. How ever the events clearely say the issue is because of the old installation files.
I was looking a a article on updating an agent to SCOM 2012 R2 from the below link.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249715.aspx
    So the link says:
When you upgrade an agent, the Operations Manager installer service runs and is not removed until after the completion of the upgrade.
If the agent upgrade fails, you might have to re-install the agent because the installer service was not properly removed. If you attempt to upgrade the agent again and it fails, you should re-install the agent after you have completed upgrading all features
    of Operations Manager.
So i would suggest you is you try the below on only 1 agent.
    1. Download the Agent Dump from the below link and try updating it. (This is my copy of MOM Agent.msi from my installation media of SCOM
    2012 R2)
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/wv7y37moyd04209/MOMAgent.msi?dl=0
If the above does not success  and gives you the same error then try the below
    1. Select an agent and pull all the perfmon data / Alerting data required for it using SQL Query or Reporting.
    2. Uninstall the Old SP1 Agent setup.
    3. Install the Agent via Discovery Wizard or do a manual installation and see if the issue resolves.
I think either from both the steps will solve the issue.

  • Upgrading SCVMM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2

Please forgive me I've missed something obvious, but I have yet to see any documentation on how to upgrade SCVMM 2012 SP1 to the just-released R2. Running the setup detects that two components are already installed on the machine (the server management console)
and doesn't appear to present any upgrade options. The version its detecting as installed is SP1, not R2.
What's the upgrade process? Is there a document that discusses the 2012 SP1 -> R2 upgrade?
    Thanks

Upgrading to Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2
VMM also does not support in-place upgrade. You have to uninstall VMM and retain the database. Before uninstalling VMM first uninstall any Update Rollup if you have such. After uninstalling VMM, ADK (Windows Assessment and Deployment Toolkit) 8.0 also have
to be uninstalled. Before starting the VMM 2012 R2 installation you have to install ADK
8.1. After VMM 2012 R2 installation is easy. You have to point a few settings, the installation will detect that you want to make upgrade to existing database and after a few minutes you will be upgrade to R2. After successful upgrade you need to start
the console and update your VMM agents also.

  • Issue while Upgrading vmm 2012 sp1 to vmm 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are trying to upgrade the vmm setup to 2012 r2 ,we retained the existing vmm database
While upgrading to vmm 2012 r2 , got the below warning message:
"The VMM database contains one or more services in a failed state. Upgrading to VMM in System Center 2012 R2 is not recommended. Retry the upgrade after you have reinstalled VMM for System Center 2012 SP1 and repaired or removed these services. Click
    Cancel to exit the upgrade."
Tried to find the bug using the vmm logs file like
    errlevel
    setupwizard
    vmmserver
In erlevel log, the entry was "0".
Any idea what the issue is????

    1. You just need CU3 - these are cumulative
    2. Sure, you can take a temporary snapshot. You need to take a SQL backup also.
    3. Don't forget to test the upgrade process on a copy of your site database (use /testdbupgrade)

  • In place upgrade to 2012 R2 fails, Setup can't continue. Your computer will now restart, and your previous version of windows will be restored.

I have multiple Windows Server 2008 R2 machines in which I am attempting to do an in place upgrade to 2012 R2, and it is repeatedly failing.
Setup gets all the way through, and it says Getting ready, followed immediately by an error saying: Setup can't continue.  Your computer will now restart, and your previous version of Windows will be restored.
    I am attempting to install:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (Server with GUI)
    x64 Date modified 3/18/2014
I have found several posts, many discussing how disk space can be an issue, I have increased disk space so it shouldn't be an issue.  I have also made sure the only only partition on disk 0 is C: and system reserved.
I have disabled all unessential services and went through and removed all unessential applications, and extras.  Still getting the error.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this, or further troubleshoot?

I also had this error: "Setup cannot continue. Your computer will now restart, and your previous version of Windows will be restored."
    trying to do a in-place upgrade of a Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2.
The problem was the separated System Reserved Partition. After I removed using this instructions:
    http://jacobackerman.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-remove-system-reserved-partition.html
The upgrade ran ok, and now have my DC as Windows 2012 R2.
    Hope that helps!.

  • 2008 R2 Certificate Authority In Place Upgrade to 2012 R2

    Hello,
I've been reviewing all the MS Documentation on CA Migrations, but none cover In-Place upgrades.  No documentation against the idea either.
We have a single Root CA running 2008 R2, I would like to upgrade to 2012 R2 in place.
    Is that possible?
    Not recommended?
Do I need to update to 2008 R2 w/SP1 first?
Or is it just better to Migrate to new installed 2012 R2 server?
    Thanks, Tony

    Hi Andrei,
Based on your description, we need to make sure all VMs have been shutdown before doing the upgrade.

  • Teamed NICs no longer work after upgrade to 2012 R2

    Hi,
My Hyper-V installation on 2012 Data Centre used two teamed NICs as a Hyper-V virtual switch configured to connect to the external network.
After upgrading to 2012 R2 Data Centre I no longer have connectivity to the external network. VMs that use this switch no longer have network connectivity.
I've removed the switch and reconfigured but with no joy. I've also completely removed the Hyper-V role and reinstalled but again - no joy.
For the time being the NICs are configured as separate switches and all is OK.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Sean

    Hi Sean,
I would like to check if you need further assistance.
    Thanks.

  • Certain Devices failing during OS .wim deployment after upgrading to 2012 R2

We just upgraded to 2012 R2 and for some reason, now some of our newer machines goto BSD loop after the the apply drivers step.  I have re-imported all of the drivers for these machines into the driver database and driver packages and updated dist points
but still having the same problem.   Will not boot into OS in safe mode either.  I had to remove the HDD to retrieve the smsts logs which say the following: (thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated)

Dont look for WinPE drivers. WinPE is just a slimmed down version of the full OS.
    http://foxdeploy.com/2013/10/02/differences-in-winpe-versions/
Since you are using WinPE 5.0 x64, you want Windows 8.1 x64 drivers.
What model are you trying to image? Are you sure drivers are needed at all? Can you boot up to WinPE 5.0 and get an IP?

  • Server 2012 In-place upgrade to 2012 R2 error. Error upgrading: Setup can't continue. Restart the computer and restart Setup. When prompted, try getting the latest updates

Trying to upgrade server 2012 with RDS role on it, to server 2012 R2.
It stays for a while on step "Collecting files, settings, and applications 0%"
    and then returns the error:
Error upgrading: Setup can't continue. Restart the computer and restart Setup. When prompted, try getting the latest update
Installed all the latest updates, rebooted, also tried to to run setup with local admin, still the same.
Setup logs contain user profile related errors:
[0x08039d] MIG    Cannot add mapping for user profile C:/Users/Administrator.001. Error: 32: Win32Exception: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. [0x00000020] __cdecl Mig::CIndirectKeyMapper::CIndirectKeyMapper(class

I was able to get past "Collecting files, settings, and applications 0%" by disabling user profile disks, but then on reboot I got another error:
Setup can't continue. Your computer will now restart, and your previous version of Windows will be restored.

  • Inplace upgrade Windows 2012 DC to Windows 2012 R2

    Hi
We plan to upgrade some of our DCs from Windows 2012 to Windows 2012 R2.
Theese DCs is on a DMZ holding our virtual machines management servers so they are not the most critical DCs but they are critical enough to not working for a longer time.
Normally we dont do inplace upgrade but this is more of quick solution to raise the servers to the same OS level
So has anyone done an inplace upgrade from 2012 to 2012 R2 on domain controllers? Any problems?
We have two DCs, in differents locations.
    BR

Yes, we've upgraded some of our DC's from Server 2012 to Server 2012 R2 without any issues at all. Obviously you want to do them one at a time, but we found it completely straight forward.
In fact, if it wasn't for some unrelated legacy issues at one site (old servers preventing us upgrading that sites DPM install as DPM 2012 R2 doesn't support them, but DPM 2012 doesn't support Server 2012 R2) we'd have upgraded all our DCs by now.

  • Upgrade from 2012 to 2012 R2 with DirectAccess

I have read a few posts here and there about doing an in-place upgrade of 2012 to 2012 R2 with DirectAccess.  I'm wondering what people in the forum have to say about doing an in-place upgrade.  I realize that there are no new features but I would
like to make sure most of our servers are 2012 R2 instead of 2012 since it is much friendlier.
What I was hoping to do was just mount the 2012 R2 ISO and run setup.  I have done this with AD and it worked in my home lab but I have not tried DA hence me asking.
    Thank you,
    Kent
