SCORM Suggestions

I am using Captivate 3 to produce content for a LMS
(Learn.com). I would like Learn.com to track the captivate SCO and
report on time spent in the lesson, access date, etc, but I do not
want the course being marked as "complete". I want completion
status to be determined by a post-assessment managed through the
LMS.
Currently, I have courses that will report "complete" when
first opened and courses that require a user to view 100% of the
slides to report "complete".
Can anyone suggest a clean method for keeping the project in
an "incomplete" status after is has been fully viewed?
Thanks in advance,
- Jon

I'm not sure how to do that. If you have any JS expertise
available, you
might be able to dig into the parent HTML file that holds all
the
javascript SCORM functions and change where it says
'completed' to
'incomplete'.
However even if that is successful, you likely won't be able
to change
that status to 'completed' when a different SCO is completed
(your
quiz). I believe the SCORM spec says a SCOs status can only
be affected
by the SCO itself, not another one. I could be wrong, or
Learn.com might
have included a function to allow that...

  • SCORM 1.2 tracking Captivate 3 lesson_location

I have a client who is using Captivate 3 to author a SCORM 1.2 course. When deployed to the LMS we have experienced problems with bookmarking, in that it does not appear to work all of the time.
On investigating this further using ADL Testsuite to track the data being passed between content and LMS, I was able to establish that a "lesson_location" vary rarely written back to the LMS, even upon Save and Exit. There were a couple of slides and button interactions that trigerred data to be written to the LMS, but upon looking at the author file, there was nothing to suggest why these slides or button clicks should send back data.
    I have 2 questions.
1: Is it possible to manipulate when data is being written back to the LMS, ie, can I choose when a lesson_location is saved? The solution I am looking for would be one that is native to Captivate 3 and not a custom JavaScript solution as I need to provide it to a non developer a non developer.
2: What would be the likely cause of the lesson_location being sent to the LMS on the slides and button clicks that it did happen. Understanding this, I hope will help me manipulate it.
I appreciate any help you can provide on this.

  • Error when launching SCORM Compliant Content

When launching a piece of SCORM Content, OLM is kicking out an error that says "Unable to Locate the LMS's API Implementation. Communication with the LMS will not occur"
We have verified the physical and virtual paths for the content server and the SCORM Adapter, but this error is still occuring. The Content plays after you accept the error message.
Has anyone experienced this type of error before? The content was developed using Camtasia (which I am not familiar with) but was published using SCORM 1.2
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

    Julie,
Check the troubleshooting section of the SCORM installation guide, metalink note id#374715.1
chances are the content is not frame friendly (look for javascript error indicator in the bottom left of your IE browser)

  • CPlibrary.js causing error in SCORM Cloud Player

I have my course posted on SCORM Cloud, and when it launches, the slides take a long time to load between slides, and some of the elements on the slide don't load. SCORM Cloud customer service looked at the logs and found that the module is having a difficult time finding the elements in the CPlibrary.js file.
    http://support.scorm.com/attachments/token/2sli5zgurdgbkov/?name=Screen+Shot+2013-06-12+at +5.12.27+PM.png
This is a module that was created by someone else and then published by me, so the elements in the library were not added by me or created on my machine. Does that make a difference?
It runs fine when I preview in the browser from Captivate. The problem is just when it is published and posted on SCORM Cloud.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

That is correct, at least in my case. Keep in mind, even though our two issues are similar, the solution could be vastly different.
It may very well be the LMS. I've had to go up against an LMS provider before in situations like this and it's not an easy task. The last thing they want to do is admit it's "their fault."
I'd suggest recreating the slide and testing on SCORM Cloud. If your developer doesn't get any errors on there, then it may very well be the LMS. All LMS' have different settings, which is both frustrating and confusing. Just trying to come up with a course that fully works on a given LMS can be a job on its own.

  • 3rd Party SCORM Adapter

I'm wondering if anyone has implemented a 3rd party SCORM adapter with OLM? We have run into performance issues with the integrated SCORM Adapters ability to stream voice. Our courses are currently created with UPK - with voice - and are VERY large in size. Unfortunatley, UPK only supports WAV files at this time which is unfortunately a very large voice file with minimal to no compression.
We are experiencing tremendous slowdown deliverying this content with our existing OLM infrastructure. We had an OLM Architect completely review our implementation to assure accurate configuration and the result was that all was configured correctly - but the SCORM adapter doesn't efficiently stream the voice. Our experience has shown that each page takes approximately 175Kbp per page to bring down the voice (this compares to a 28Kbp voice call)....you can see the HUGE difference. '
Before I start researching other adapters for OLM - interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this same problem and potential resolutions.
NOTE: We are currently deployed with a single content server accessed over the WAN but are heavily considering local content servers...the issue becomes accurate replication and assuring every content server has the same "instance of the truth"....we would be deploying 18 content servers worldwide so I think you can see the concern here.
Of course and easy solution is no voice....but not the desired outcome.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Lisa

    Lisa,
The SCORM Adapter has nothing to do with it. The SCORM adapter is simply an HTML frameset surrounding the content. The issue sounds like the content server machine more than anything else.

  • Scorm 1.2 Error Handling in Captivate 4

We have been using Captivate 4 for SCORM courses in a Moodle LMS (1.9.8) implementation. All of our users run Windows XP SP3, IE 6, and have McAfee installed on their systems. We have been having 1/5 people who take the Captivate courses never connect to the API and thus no data is written except for a start.time which is seperate from the SCORM communication. I was wondering if there was anyway we could have a javascript error appear whenever a user does not connect to the LMS or API correctly. I know this is common in other implementations of SCORM, but I cannot figure out how to add it to Captivate since the calls are all made in ActionScript as far as I know.
I have been looking for common threads and have had no real luck.
As a side note, the users who aren't getting written to the database are users who previously took Captive 4 courses in the same LMS and had no issues even when using the same PC on the same day. If anyone knows why this could be happening or has any suggestions or how to discover the error please help, we have been dealing with this issue for far to long and it is quickly becoming a permanent headache...
    Thanks!
    Sean

All (? or most) SCORM calls for published CP projects are contained in an external file. In CP4 it's "scorm_support.js".
So you could likely, if you have any JS expertise or resources, look at that...see where it attempts to connect to the API and customize it to throw an alert if it fails?

  • What are the settings under SCORM 2004 to indicate the completion status on LMS

    Hi everyone,
I have a captivate file which i have published as scorm 2004 compliant and checked that file on the scorm cloud. It worked well.
SCORM Pacakage does note report partial completion. When a person stops training, we have the progress bar to indicate that they are at 0, 25, 50, 75 or 100%.
Problem: I dont know exactly, what are the settings to enable to indicate the completion status. I tried but it didn't worked.

  • SCORM 1.2 and Saba - Reporting a 0 Score for Track Slide views

    Good morning,
We have just transitioned over to our new LMS, Saba.  To say the transition has been rocky would be an understatement.   So, here is what I am dealing with:
I have a very basic reader course where I want to grant someone credit once they have viewed all slides.  I am using SCORM 1.2 and setting either "User Access Only" or "Slide Views Only."  If I use slide views, I set it to 1, it sends a 0 score to the LMS, even if the user views all slides.  I have been able to create a fix by assigning a point value to a click box or button at the screen where I want the user to get credit.  However, this does not seem to be what was intended.
Below are screen shots of my publishing commands, Saba screens, and communication report between Saba and CP.

I would suggest you try using Percent instead of Score, and set the Slide View completion percentage to 100 instead of 1.
Change Reporting Level to Score instead of Interactions and Score.
You haven't shown the screen for Quiz > Pass or Fail settings, but you need to set the passing percentage there to 100% as well if you intend that the learner must view every single slide.
Bear in mind that when using slide views, if you have any navigation buttons on the slides that are set to jump to the next slide when clicked, then the learner does not get a completion mark for those slides.  In Captivate you have to watch a slide all the way to the last frame in order to get it marked as completed.  If for some reason you need to get slides marked as completed despite not being viewed (e.g. when using branching) then you can use our TickTOC widget to gain credit for those slides that are missed or not watched to the end.
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/ticktoc
If you suspect that not all slides will be viewed, you can adjust the Pass/Fail percentage to something less than 100% to allow for the missed ones.
Try these changes and see if it works.
Once you DO find the settings that allow Captivate to work with SABA I would be very interested to know what they were.  I've got a page on my website where I want to show the Captivate config settings for SABA: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/lms_guide/saba  I don't have access to this LMS myself, but perhaps you or other SABA users on this forum can contribute information to make it easier for others to work with it.

  • Adobe Cap 5.5 on Moodle - publish without SCORM, with .swf files

    Hi,
My agency is using Moodle as a training platform and I need to publish my captivate training files to Moodle.    We track training completion through assessment reports.   I upload two different Adobe Captivate 5.5 training files.
    (1)   the training portion with .swf (Raptivity) interactivity
    (2)   the assessment portion - published in SCORM
I am able to successfully publish the assessment portion of the Adobe Captivate 5.5 in SCORM to Moodle.     However I am unable to successfully publish the training file.
I do not need to publish the training portion in SCORM so am open to suggesions of the best method to get the training file with Raptivity .swf files working on Moodle.  When I publish the file it will work perfectly on our local network but does not work in Moodle.  I have tried publishing the training portion (1) with and without SCORM without success.
    Thank you for your help.
Note:   Please see my post 4-12-11.   I was unable to list files in the imsmanifest.xml as suggested in the response - and wonder if someone could provide further detail/ support with this suggestion.   How do I add the other tags?   Would someone be able to provide a screen shot of these steps?     Thank you.
    Sandra

In the dialog inside Captivate where you set up the path to find the video file.  By default, Captivate sets an absolute link, however, this path will be invalid if your video will be moved to another system (e.g. the LMS).  You have to alter the default path to make it a relative path.  The usual method is to copy the video file into the same publish folder as the Captivate SWF.  (By default, Captivate doesn't move your video file for you at publish time.)  If your FLV or F4V file is sitting in the same folder as your SWF, then you can just use the filename of the video file as your relative path when setting up the link in the dialog.
I also recommend you ONLY use lowercase filenames at all times for Captivate projects, including the published file and folders, and that you NEVER have spaces in files or folder names.  These precautions will eliminate many baffling link failures when projects are moved from a Windows development environment to another webserver environment.

  • SCORM compliant SWF file stills hangs on loading screen

I am using Captivate 5.0  v 5.0.2.630 . I have checked for the latest patches and updates and my software is up to date including the patch that was supposed to correct the problem I am having.
I have a SCORM-compliant course and the SWF file hangs at the loading screen. This usually only happens after the user has launched and exited the course without completing it. But is has happened once with an initial launch of the course. The problem seems to be more prevalent if the user’s browser is Mozilla but it has also happened in IE
The LMS I am using supports both AICC and SCORM compliant content.
I have also changed the scorm_support.js file from var g_nAPI = 0 to var g_nAPI = 1  which was suggested in a March 21 blog post.
Any suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated.

I am having a similar issue. I took the update earlier this week and it seemed to be working until a user fails the quiz and exits the course. When they return to the course it sticks on the grey loading screen - infinitely.
Any suggestions would be most helpful!

  • How can I test the SCORM 2004 compliant based output from captivate

    Hi everyone,
I have created a SCORM 2004 compliant based output file from Captivate itself. Before sharing it with client, I want to check that whether it is compliant or not.
Is there any tool to check the compliance check in LMS? I am new to this, please suggest and help...
    Regards
    Vikas Sharma

    Hi RodWard,
I have tested the zip on scorm cloud and it worked well. Also shared it with the client. But client came back with a question that -
"SCORM Pacakage does not report partial completion. When a person stops training, we have the progress bar to indicate that they are at 0, 25, 50, 75 or 100%. So the SCORM pkg is inadequate. "
Now, I am facing an issue in doing these particular settings inside SCORM 2004 in captivate.
Note that, the captivate file is not a questionnaire and its a video with few animations and a player on which it is running.
    Can you please guide me...

  • SCORM

I have downloaded the "FindSCORMapi.cfm" file from the
developer exchange, but don't unsterstand how this works. Has
anyone implemented a method for integrating SCORM compliant objects
into a ColdFusion based Learning management System? How do I
retreive information using the CF_FindSCORMapi tag? Why do I get an
"Out of Memory" message when I try to use this tag? If this tag
simply doesn't work, does anyone have suggestions for what does
work? All the information about SCORM that is out there seems to be
for developing the content, not for storing this information in an
    LMS's database.
    Please Help.

Flex can be used for SCORM courses (any version of SCORM).
SCORM uses JavaScript to communicate with the LMS, which means you
need JavaScript in the HTML; the Flex/Flash ActionScript can be set
up to communicate with the JavaScript using ExternalInterface.
    See some examples at
    http://pipwerks.com/lab/scorm/

  • Launch Full Screen in Moodle (Scorm Compliant)

    Hi,
Now that I have resolved my original issue with Captivate + Moodle & Scorm, on to the next question
    I have created a test CP4 module at 800 X 600
When setting up the Scorm module in Moodle, I have had dramas getting the Stage Size set correctly.
Entering either 100% & 100% (as suggested in another forum) or 800 X 600 does NOT result in a stage of that size.  Resulting in the user having to scroll to view the window even though there is sufficient space on the window.
Also, content is shoved across due to a side navigation panel:
I am hoping to either be able to hide the navigation panel (Moodle issue, have posted in Moodle forum) or launch the CP4 file in a full screen window
So . . . to my Captivate question . . . how can I edit the launch file generated by CP4 to force the content to open in a full screen window (without breaking the SCORM connection?)
    Baby steps
    Thanks,
    Matt

I had to do similar recently. The way I got this to work was to resize the container that teh Flash file is embedded into. In the case of the GeoLearning LMS that I use, I had to use this
    function whenLoaded()
    window.parent.parent.resizeTo(1024, 768);
    window.parent.scrollbars=0
    window.parent.parent.scrollbars=0
    //alert("Resize called");
to resize the parent of the parent of the window that contains the Flash file. Call the function from Body OnLoad
    <body  bgcolor="#FFFFFF" onload="whenLoaded()
I set the Flash file to display at 100% too
    var so = new SWFObject(strURLFile + strURLParams, "Captivate", "100%", "100%", "9", "#CCCCCC");

  • Can anyone tell me where to find a manifest maker for SCORM 1.2 for Flash projects?

Hi... I have a group of Win 7 based Flash CS6 projects and need to have a manifest maker s/w to create the SCORM 1.2 required manifest of all the files. I used to use a free downloadable manifest maker from the web but it seems to be gone.

No one here knows what you have tried in the past.
The suggested solution was a possibility. One that some folks wouldn't think about. You have already ruled out a new cable as a solution 8 times.
My mixture of 9 pin FW cables are all snug to the fit - all appear to be different vendors.
My apologies for having made a 'foolish' suggestion.
