Script to activate the Color Separations Panel?

I've Frankensteined together a script (javascript) using bits and pieces that I've found here that deletes unused swatches, deletes unused character/paragraph styles, and deletes unused text boxes.
As the final function, I want the script to activate the separatations panel preview (with only the black separation visible). I haven't been able to find any scripts that "activate" a panel for me to manipulate.
Any help would be much appreciated.
------ Additional information that you probably don't need to know but maybe you'll have some clever solution for my problem that I haven't thought of. ------
If any graphic or text has InDesign [Black] applied to it, it doesn't output to our negative printer. This obviously causes problems if a designer fails to apply a colored swatch to a graphic or text and then fails to check the separation preview for [Black] items.
I first thought that it'd be fine just to have the script notify the designer if any items in the job had InDesign [Black] applied... but there are two layers on every one of our jobs that use InDesign [Black]... so the "alert" script would have to omit those two layers when searching for instances of InDesign [Black]... and this all seemed much more complicated than just having a script activate the the Separations Panel with Black selected.)
Again, thank you for your help.

well now..
first of all i think we found a bug in CS5 at least. Please (anyone) try to duplicate my problem:
1) open the Find Object dialog
2) In the Find Object Format select the Fill Color Black. (Click a few times on Find/Find Next just to be sure)
3) open ESTK, link it to indesign, open the console and type:
app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor.name
i get:    Result: Yellow
4) in the ESTK Console, type
app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor='Black'
in the Find Object Format dialog, you will get: Fill: Color: (Unnamed Color) Click the Find Button, and "Nothing found"
5) now for the fun part, in the ESTK Console type:
app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor='Yellow'
in the Find Object Format dialog, you will get: Fill: Color: [Black]. Clicking on the Find Button you will get the (un)expected results.
a bit later, apparently is not a new bug: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2914093

  • Using a script to get the color of a colorized Black & White Bitmap image

    I've been running into this wall for quite some time and would greatly appreciate any help that can given for it.
    I have an Illustrator script that runs inside of a BridgeTalk session within an InDesign script.  Yeah, it's complicated.  The upshot is that the Illustrator part opens up an EPS file, looks through all objects on a certain layer in that file, and returns an array of the colors used in it.  So, it looks at fill colors, stroke colors, gradient stops, etc.  One of the biggest stumbling blocks (next to PlugIn Items, which I'll ask about in a separate post) is getting the color of raster images.
    Most raster images, I realize, are going to be CMYK or RGB images, but our company mostly deals with either Grayscale images or Black & White Bitmaps that are embedded in the EPS file.  Those two allow the ability to colorize them by simply selecting them and then choosing a color, such as a spot PANTONE color from one of their color books.
    Now, I need the script to read the color that the raster image has been colorized with.  This works okay for images that have a GrayScale color space, as the script just looks at Colorant[0] of that image.  However, I run into a problem with Black & White Bitmap images.  Here's a piece of code that I try to make work with an EPS file that has a raster image:
    var document = app.activeDocument;
    for (var i = 0; i < document.layers[0].pageItems.length; i++) {
              // Stepping through each item on the layer.
              var currentItem = document.layers[0].pageItems[i];
              $.writeln("Current item is " + currentItem.typename);
              $.writeln("Number of channels is " + currentItem.channels);
              $.writeln("Color Space is " + currentItem.imageColorSpace);
              $.writeln("Colorized Grayscale? " + currentItem.colorizedGrayscale);
              $.writeln("Number of Colorants: " + currentItem.colorants.length);
              for (var j = 0; j < currentItem.colorants.length; j++)
                        $.writeln("Colorant number " + j + " is " + currentItem.colorants[j]);
              $.writeln("Its parent is " + currentItem.parent);
              $.writeln("Parent's typename is " + currentItem.parent.typename);
    This code runs successfully on an Illustrator file that has a Black & White Bitmap image on the top layer, but if you try and run it, you'll see the problem:  Even if you've colorized your Bitmap image with a PANTONE spot color (and the script even returns "true" on the line "Colorized Grayscale?"), Colorant number 0 is "Gray".  It should be the spot color assigned, not "Gray".
    Can anyone please help me figure out how to get the script to recognize the actual colorant of a Black & White Bitmap image in Illustrator?

    If you're a professional photographer with 50,000 pictures stored now and more coming all the time, you need to forget about using iPhoto and get yourself some professional-quality digital asset management software. iPhoto is not meant for people like you, and instead of providing a simple, elegant one-stop answer to all your needs, iPhoto is actually complicating your life.
    You need an application that will:
    - catalog ALL your images and keep track of where they are, no matter how many DVDs, folders, partitions or hard drives they're spread over;
    - display thumbnails of ALL of them, even when the DVD that contains them is not present in any drive, so you can select all the ones you want for a project;
    - find and copy (or export) the originals of all the files you've selected in the browser window, even if it means prompting you to insert the necessary DVDs for all of them.
    I suggest Googling "digital asset management software Macintosh" and seeing what turns up. I used to use an old version of Extensis Portfolio, and even that would have been better for your purposes than iPhoto is.

    ALSO, on the iPod under Settings>General>iTunes Sync, you may need to back out of the "iTunes Wi-fi Sync," and reopen it to get it to update.

  • Sorting the color swatch panel

    Is it possible to sort the entries in the swatch panel so they are in alphabetical order? It seems to me to be an obvious thing to do and something that I would have thought that InDesign would have done itself.

    The swatch palette is not part of the tool bar and the is no tool the open the swatch palette. Try using menu Window>Swatches

  • How do I attain color separation in InDesign that containes Photoshop Images?

    Thank you for your time.
    I have to submit an ad that will print black with spot color (Cyan). Below (Image 1) is the ad that does not contain color separation. The publisher said that I have to provide an ad that allows for color separation, without the ad being changed. Below (Image2) shows how the ad changes when I apply the color separation, with only Cyan being selected. I have also included (Image 3) my color settings; I'm not sure if my color settings have a part in my ad changing. If you know what I need to do to fix this issue, I would greatly appreciate your help.
    Thank You.
    (Image 1)
    (Image 2)
    (Image 3)

    If your ad contains only Black and Cyan inks you should be able to send the composite PDF and it will separate in the RIP at the publisher. If this is not waht the publisher wants, you need to get verys specific instructions from them. We can help you to understand those instructions if necessary.
    The key here is that your images must be true grayscales or Black/Cyan duotones and you must not use any 4-color black elsewhere in the ad. Looking at your screen shot of the cyan plate it looks like the images are grayscale and OK, but your background gradient and black caption bars are showing cyan ink, so unless you used a cyan/black with no magenta and no yellow in them you have a problem. RGB colors cannot be used here.

  • The colors in Photoshop CC are very dull

    I have just downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CC and the colors after selection are very dull, for want of a better word.  The swatches are all bit, the color selection panel is bright and full color, but after selection, and implimentation on an image are dull, and cerytainly not correct.  The monitor is registering colors correctly.  I must have pressed something, or changedf something but know not waht. Grateful for any advice

    Look at colour spaces.   How are you bringing the images into Photoshop?  If RGB are they sRGB or Adobe RGB?  If RAW, how do you have Camera RAW preferences set?
    Have a look at Soft Proofing under the View menu.  Try setting it to Monitor RGB and toggle on and off with Ctrl(Cmd) y

  • Access eyedropper in the color picker

    Hi!
    My question is simple:
    Can I access the eyedropper when I'm picking a color in the color picker panel?
    In Photoshop the eyedropper is on automatically whenever I hover my cursor over the document (while I'm in the color picker window). Is there anything similar in Illustrator?

    No. You cannot sample colors from your doucument while you are in the color picker.
    You need to exit the color picker and have the eyedropper as the selected tool.
    Word of warning, holding down shift and sampling colors in your document is NOT accurate. The Shift sample uses the RGB values your monitor card is sending to your monitor, not the actual numerical values. So only use the shift eyedropper for ballpark color samples, not for anything critical.

  • MagicPicker color wheel panel with keyboard shortcut?

    Hi!
    There's a color wheel panel for Photoshop named MagicPicker that sits in the Window -> Extensions -> MagicPicker menu. Is there a way to assign it a keyboard shortcut? I found no way to do it in the Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts... Thanks for any help!

    You might be able to assign a keyboard shortcut (function key) by recording an action using Insert Menu Item
    and then picking the color wheel panel from Window>Extensions and using the Action Options to assign a function key.
    Example using the Adobe watermark panel:

  • Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent

    Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent backgrounds. Any thoughts?

    Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
    Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
    Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
    This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.

  • Assets panel styles, can i change the color of a style to be an exact color?

    Assets panel > styles, can i change the color of a style
    to be an exact color? for example, if i want to create a navbar
    with the black and gray glass affect style, but i want to change
    the color but keep the same style of shading. each style in the
    assets panel has a default color, but i want to change the color
    and keep the style. i did change the color a little bit by
    adjusting the hue and saturation, but i can't seem to get an exact
    match of the color i am trying to duplicate. any help is greatly
    appreciated thanks

    When a style is applied to any object, the Properties panel
    at the bottom will reflect the attributes which are editable in
    that applied style. The properties which can be edited are fill and
    stroke colors also apart from adjusting the Hue and Saturation.
    Gradient colors can be modified by changing the fill color.
    The nodes in the gradient will change the color from blue to black
    or any other intended color of change. If you know the color you
    can either enter it as a 6 digit value or you can pick a color from
    an existing object.
    Hope it helps. Let me know I am missing you query
    completely.

  • Dynamically setting the color of the title in a Panel

    Hello, I know I can set the color & font of the title in a Panel using the titleStyleName in a stylesheet.  How can I dynamically change the color though?  I have a component:
             <mx:Panel id="myPanel"borderColor="{this.color1}" />
    where this.color1 is a value that changes dynamically, and thus changes the border color.  How do I do this for the color of the text in the title?

    Hi,
    Try this
    var css:CSSStyleDeclaration = StyleManager.getStyleDeclaration(".myPanelTitle");
    css.setStyle("color",0x00FF00);

    In Preview, I suddenly am unable to get the "Adjust Color" tool panel to edit images. I just get the rectangular image selection tool instead. How do I ge the "Adjust Color" tool panel back?

    Hmmm, I wonder if that window is hidden or off screen? Have you moved the pic window around to look under it?
    Might try this...
    Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
    Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.bookmarks.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Is there a way to change the colors of multiple VI front panels?

    Hi,
    I am currently creating a LabView program controlling a lot of sensors and actuators. I have based the GUI on a tab-control with different buttons which again opens up different VI front panels in a singel sub panel below. I realy want to have a different color theme on my program than the standard gray LabView theme, but I would like to change the colors for all my VIs in a smooth and quick way. I really would not like to click on all controls, indicators etc. to get new colors, as there are a lot of them! Any ideas out there, if this is possible?
    Thanks in advance!
    Lars

    Lars,
    please note that using the grayscale theme is recommended not only by NI. Using color is very delicate thing since you have to consider:
    - readability of text might suffer due to insufficient contrast
    - overuse of (signaling) color might distract the user from important settings/information
    - color-blind user?
    That being said, you can color the frontpanels of the VIs you include in the sub panel dynamically. Please take a look into attached example on how this could be done (LV 2009).
    Please note that this is recoloring the frontpanel background only. If you need other elements to recolor as well, this can be done similar but is more effort....
    hope this helps,
    Norbert
