SCSM 2012 - service requests auto complete even with activities in them

I introduced SCSM 2012 on Monday at out company. I have a number of service requests templates that the service desk use.
I have seen a major fault. Occasionally when a request is raised from the template the goes straight to complete and therefore the manual activities are stuck in pending and i have to kill the activities using a powershell script. Below is a screen shot
showing an example.
THis was raised from a template the service desk use frequently. The template is ok because we have used it several times. In the example below service desk raised the template - as ever when you raise a request the system moves it from 'new' to 'In Progress'
- which is fine you should expect this - but then it automatically moves it from 'In Progress to 'Complete' - this is without the activity being completed. The activity is then stuck in pending. No one is marking the request as complete, the system is doing
it - but why??????? there are no workflows set up at all for Service Requests

You can actually quite easily test this.
Create an SR from a template that has 3 Manual Activities.  Once created it will progress through the 'Submitted' status to the 'In Progress' status.  The first Manual Activity should also be 'In Progress'.  Now complete the first Manual Activity,
then wait for the second Manual Activity to go to the 'In Progress' status.  Now, put the SR 'On Hold'.  Wait for a couple of minutes - until the 2nd and 3rd Manual Activities are paused.  Now resume the SR.  What should happen is that
the Manual Activity resume workflow should trigger before other workflows, resulting in the SR and the Manual Activities remaining 'In Progress'.  If the issue is not fixed, the completion workflow will trigger first resulting in a completed SR with paused
activities.

    Perhaps you can use the "Closed" status as a way of indicating that your are completely finished with a service request? (This follows ITIL). It has the advantage of being an out-of-the-box feature and, by default, SR's have to be closed by
    a user.
    Keep in mind, though, that closed service requests are groomed out of the CMDB (356 day retention time by default, i believe). But, they'll still be available for a few years in your data warehouse.
    What is your business reason for this behavior? Console views? Custom reports?
    If "Closed" doesn't cut it for you, you may want to consider extending the Server Request class with your own status property that you can use for whatever your requirements are.

  • Service Request - Default Owner field with Created By info

    Can anyone help me to default "Owner" field in "Service Request" record type with same info of the "Created By",
    Currently the owner field is provided with magnified glass option to select Owner and Save the Service Request.

    I am assuming that the login user is the creator of the record.
    In that case, use the 'Owned By Id' field in the SR object. Post default it to LoginId()

    I am looking to create a workflow or somehow setup the Service Requests to automatically approve / not require approval. Any ideas on how to do this? So basically, I want a service request to come in just like an incident does, no need for anyone to approve

  • SCSM 2012 - 'Assign to Me' fuction in Manual Activities

    Hi,
    The assign to me function I have in the task bar for manual activities doesn't seem to be working. When I click it a black box flashes up and then disappears quickly, but the activity doesn't get assigned to me.
    It works ok for incidents and requests. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    I am aware of the 'The Helpful Tasks and Tweaks for System Center Service Manager 2012' post that is here -

    If I attempt to Complete a SR from a remote console I receive the following error. Marking as Complete from the console installed on the Management Server works as expected. Has anyone encountered this ?

    Thanks. Although the Console version was showing the same on both the server and users workstations I think what we had was UR3 installed on the servers and UR2 installed on the workstations. Installing UR3 on all workstations seems to have fixed the issue

  • Feature request:  auto-complete by typing Page Title (not only URL)

    I'm switching from Firefox to Safari.
    I really miss new Firefox auto URL complete feature.
    Please add it in the future updates.
    I can start typing a word in address line, and a drop-list of URLs appears with URLs AND Page titles.
    Example of a desired behavior.
    Lets say I've visited a week ago an article-page titled "World History" located here http://www.hyperhistory.com/onlinen2/Historyn2/a.html
    Now week later I dont remember the URL, i want to start typing "world history" and a drop list appears of URLs with Page Titles that contain this in a page title (but not necessarily in URL).
    Also if I would type "history" , i want URL "www.hyperhistory.com" to appear in results because it is part of an URL (doesnt matter if its the second word, it should be there.

    Please let me know if that is possible with current Safari 3.2.1.

    As far as I am aware it's not possible for Safari to do that.

  • Cannot uninstall CS5 completely even with CS Cleaner tool

    Well... it's been over a week now and still not happy.
    Had some Indesign (CS5.5) issues (would not open program, would not open files) so I tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the software, numerous times with multiple instances of "these programs did not install successfully and may not function properly".
    After prompt advice from the forum, It was suggested I download the Cleaner tool and create a new user profile.  I have done just that and used the Cleaner tool again just to make sure and came up with multiple errors.
    (The log file is below.)
    Should I continue trying to install again now or should I wait and try to clear up the reasons why this failed first?
    Outside of completely wiping the partition and starting from scratch (a company computer), I have no other idea of what I can do to ensure this works as it should.
    I've been "down" for a week and have work piling up.  Thanks!

    The procedure of the Adobe CS Cleaner must be done with an Admin Account on your, or you should Run the Application as Administrator,
    The failed removing file errors, seems like that the files aren´t on the location anymore, you can check if there.

    Delivery will be done for 3 units.
    I need the sales order status to be completed after delivery.
    I have tried with completion rule in item catagery'Item is completed with first reference'
    Still the status in document flow is order 'being processed'
    Can any body help me out

    If your requirement has to be fulfilled then assign reason for rejection at item level for all line items after doing delivery .Then the item will be closed with 3pcs only .And when you check the document flow then the sales order will be closed
    NOTE : No need to change the completion rule at the item category level

  • Create a view - Service Requests and Incidents

    Hi all,
    I have a Service Manager 2012 environment that has gone through an in-place upgrade from SCSM 2010.
    In the SCSM 2010 environment, Service Requests were implemented by extending the Incident class with an attribute that would denote whether the work item was an Incident or a Service Request.
    In SCSM 2012 I would like to create a view that would combine the SCSM 2010 "Service Requests" with SCSM 2012 Service Requests.
    Is it possible to create a Type Projection that performs the job of an SQL UNION statement?  If I was doing this in SQL, I'd be writing a query similar to the following:
    Select *
    From ServiceRequestDim
    Union Select *
    From IncidentDim
    Where ServiceRequestType = 'Service Request'
    (Obviously, some mapping of attributes between the two class types would be needed...and perhaps that's the reason why a type projection of this sort would not be possible...)
    An alternate approach - attack this from the Work Item class.  It's trivial to create a view that contains Service Requests and Incidents - just set your criteria to be: ID begins with 'SR' or ID begins with 'IR'.  Unfortunately, that criteria
    returns all Incidents, and I only want the Incidents that have the attribute ServiceRequestType = 'Service Request'.  Is it possible to create a Type Projection starting with the Work Item type that employs criteria from child classes?

    Work Item is an abstract class, and can't be extended for implementation reasons. 
    i think Anders has understated the difficulty of combining these views: this is a bit like saying "show me all the orange things, given this bucket of cats and this bucket of fruit" yes, they are both "orange", but fur is not the same
    as fruit rind; they're not the same "orange".
    the 2010 Service Request implementation was never intended to be a serious use case (i assume you're talking about the SCSM Service Request demo implementation on codeplex), it was intended
    to be a demo of what you could do with the form and object interfaces. 
    The solution here should be simple, convince your client that their solution has been replaced by a newer, better version, Resolve Close and then deprecate these requests, and start reporting only the new type requests. these are history, and dirty data,
    and should be ignored.

    I have noticed that a number of service requests that are shwoing with the status as 'In Progress' have actually had all the related activities resolved.
    Once the activities are all closed the request should automatically go to Compelted, why is this not happening on some of my Service Request????

    There were in deed some needing attention under activity status changed, but no errors showing in the log.
    I re-ran them all and they succeeded so maybe this was it. Have you come across it before? I'll need to keep an eye on this.

  • FYI: Confirmed flaw with Outlook Auto-Complete lists w/Exchange Online

    Ever since our organization migrated to Exchange Online we noticed a flaw with how Outlook's Auto Complete list (nickname cache) operates.  We've finally gotten a confirmation from Microsoft that the following is indeed a problem:
    Each entry in a user's local Outlook auto-complete cache is represented by an LDAP distinguished name.
    When Exchange is hosted on-premises these entries pretty much never change.
    When your organization is hosted on Exchange Online, the distinguished names for your mailboxes can change without notice due to maintenance processes (Microsoft's engineers have confirmed this to be true).
    There are other ways that a mailbox's distinguished name can change (re-creating a mailbox, etc.)
    Outlook's local auto-complete cache has no way (currently) to reconcile changes should any of its entries' distinguished names change in the cloud.
    When the entries in the local auto-complete cache become "stale" the following may happen:
    Emails to affected recipients can bounce back.
    Emails to distribution groups containing members which have stale auto-complete entries can bounce back.
    On occasion no NDR is even generated (BIG PROBLEM).
    As noted above, we've gotten Microsoft to admit that this is indeed a problem with Outlook when combined with Exchange Online. I was told that the Outlook product team has been notified of this problem.  However, in order to escalate this issue I was
    asked to spread the word to other customers so they can also chime in if they've been affected.
    Please supply your feedback to Microsoft and ask that Outlook be enhanced to either reconcile the local auto-complete list with the online GAL, or provide some sort of notification to the user that an auto-complete entry has become "stale" or invalid.

    There is nothing called as Outlook's local nick-name cache. This resides on the mailbox and not outlook and supports only 1000 entries only. If the entries exceeds 1000 it will not function correctly.
    After the .nk2 file has been imported into your mailbox, Outlook writes a value into a hidden message in your mailbox.
    To locate this property in MFCMAPI, open the
    Associated Contents table of the Contacts folder. Then, select the message with
    Subject = IPM.Configuration.ContactPrefs.
    Then, double-click the PR_ROAMING_DICTIONARY property to see the configuration setting nickname cache import. The value to examine is
    pImportedContactNickNames (True = the import has already occurred).
    Since you are facing issues at this point of time, it needs to be corrected. I would appreciate if you can open phone support case with O 365 team and ask them to escalate to Exchange Level , we should be able to work with
    you and correct the issue
