SCVMM 2012R2 - change port profiles and logical Switches
Dear all,
we are runnings a few clusters with Hyper-V 2012R2, managed by SCVMM 2012R2.
I have configurad a Logical switch "Cluster-Default" with the necessary Logical networks, Port Pofiles etc., everything works fine.
Now I have to make an additional network available to some of our VMs that is currently not configured in the Switch and the Uplink Port profile.
Can I add Logical and VM Networks to a port profile that is "in use"?
If Yes, how will these changes be applied to the hosts that are using the switches?
(I have searched through technet and have found a lot about creating switches and profiles, but not about changing them)
If No - how can I proceed?
best regards
Markus
Yes, Network Sites can be added to Uplink Port Profiles that are in use. The VM Networks for the associated Logical Networks will then be available for use by vNics connected to the Logical Switch using the updated Uplink Port Profile.

How to get Port Classifications for Logical Switch via scvmm console
Hello All,
We are creating some automation tool based on SCVMM console scripts.
In order to create vm we need to assign port classification based on Virtual Switch and then logical switch. The problem is that I could not find any way to retrieve port classifications assigned to logical switch (Virtual Port tab in SCVMMs logical
switch properties). There is Get-SCLogicalSwitch that return just name, description and some properties. There is also Get-SCUplinkPortProfileSet which returns Uplink tab data of SCVMMs logical switch properties. But no api to retrieve port classifications
for switch. Get-SCPortClassification also doesn't return switch assignments. Any ideas how to get this data?I think you are looking for
Get-SCVirtualNetworkAdapterPortProfileSet.

Randomly changing Display Profiles during user switch
I keep my MBP Display Profile set to "Color LCD" (which is the default, I think -- System Preferences>Displays>Color>"Color LCD")
Sometimes, and it seems intermittent and random, when I do a fast user switch from my wife's profile (also set on "Color LCD") to mine, right after the rotation animation finishes, the setting randomly changes to "Generic RGB Profile" and all the colors skew blue. Very annoying.
Any idea what's causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
ChipHmmm... Well, that seems to be a decent description of the symptoms, although what's happening on my screen is a lot more dramatic than what they describe in the article. Also, I don't believe I'm using a custom color profile.
I'll try the DMProxy trick and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

SCVMM 2012R2 edit hardware profile crashes
Hi
We just upgraded from SCVMM 2012sp1 to 2012R2 (running on server 2012) with a small hope of fixing this issue, but unfortunately its still the same.
When editing a hardware profile the vmm console (running on win 8.1) crashes when clicking OK. We have tested on different machines and OS with different users. Same error..
In the eventlog we get this:

10.5.7: change in window and spaces switching
On Leopard 10.5.0-7 if I closed an application window, I always stayed on my current desktop.
Since upgrading to 10.5.7, every time I close an application window, I'm taking to a fairly random other space and focused on another window from the same application.
I have long ago forgotten the setting to change this behavior: I want to stay on the same space when I close a window, no more switching to other spaces.
Anyone remember or have a link to the option? I'm fairly certain it was a default setting done from the terminal.

Logical Switch and Logical Network
Hello All...................I have Hyper-V Failover Cluster based on 5 Hosts and I am managing it with VMM 2012 R2. I was slightly confused with respect to Logical Network and Logical Switch in the Fabric Settings. I would appreciate if someone could
shed a little light on the difference between them. Also, while there is a Logical Network defined by default (Name of the Virtual Switch of Hosts), there is nothing defined in the Logical Switch. Which one is mandatory? Logical Network or Logical
Switch? Can I delete the default Logical Network?Hi Nick,
Please find below link for the whitepaper mentioned by Kristian.
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
For a complete reference please refer below series. This covers VMM 2012 SP1 but should be fine with R2 as well.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2013/01/08/virtual-networking-in-vmm-2012-sp1.aspx
Logical Network is defined for easier management and used in Network Virtualization where as Logical switch is used to configure networking in multiple Hosts rather than creating individual Virtual switches in each host. If it were me I'll leave the
default logical network as there is no harm of doing nothing in it.
I hope this will shed some light into your situation.
Thanks,

Changing ip of physical and logical host
I have a 2 nodes Sun cluster 2.2 working. I have to put it in another lan, so I have to change both Physical and logical host and terminal concentrator and console ip addresses. How can I do?
ThanksI don't see a reply so I'll take a shot. Just like you have 0-9 for numbers and you can arrange them anyway you want, you still only have 0-9. You have the physical (system block and datafiles) which are somewhat static. Then you have the the logical (tablespace, segements, extents)which are volatile and connected by chaining (links) which may be all over the place in the physical but appears to be one whole unit in the logical. Just like an image on a TV screen wearing a red hat, you see a red hat (logical) but it is actual pixels which are chained or linked (data pointers) to each other by the color red. I hope that helps until someone comes by with a better answer.

Hello!
I tried to create a logical switch and got this error:
It's rather strange for me because I set up the bandwidth setting only once (while creating a virtual network adapter port profile) and I even don't know what does mean
"...bandwidth settings of logical switch" - I haven't seen such setting in a virtual switch properties... ???
Thank you in advance,

VMware ESX Cluster Port Groups not Replicated as Network Sites in SCVMM 2012 Logical Switch
To whom it may concern,
We have added our ESX 4.1 Update 2 Cluster that's being managed by VMware vCenter to SCVMM 2012 because we want to create a private cloud and use the resources of the ESX cluster. SCVMM is replicating all the vSwitch from the ESX cluster as a logical network
but it's not replicating the port groups on the vSwitch as Network Sites associated to the Logical Network.
May you please advise or confirm that this is the normal behaviour of SCVMM? Or is there any way that SCVMM would be able to recognize the port groups associated to the ESX vSwitch and replicate it a a Networks Sites associated to Logical Switches?
Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!Hi Graham,
Thanks for your reply.
I understand that we need to configure the port groups in the vCenter server but SCVMM is only replicating the vSwitch as a Logical Network but not the port groups. It should also replicate the port group as a network site associated to the logical network.
On our VMware environment, we have port groups on different VLANs and being mapped to one physical NIC. When creating a VMware VM in a private cloud with a self-service user role we can't select the option to connect the port group that we've created from
the vCenter server. The only option it gives is the logical network (vSwitch) not the port groups within that logical network (vSwitch). Even if we create network site within the logical network (with assigned VLAN) in SCVMM, it randomly selects the port group
within the VMware vSwitch when we create a VM. We need the users with a self-service role to be able to select the port group from our vSwitch to assign the virtual NIC of the VM to a specific port group. In this way, they don't have to call or email us to
assign the VM to a port group.
I still don't understand why SCVMM does not map the port groups we've created from VMware vCenter server with user that has a self-service role. Is there any other way so that we can map the port group automatically to SCVMM?
Please advise. Thanks! -
SCVMM2012r2 UR3 : Even with no Virtual switch assigned, an uplink port profile remains
Hi,
What I'm tryng to do, is to unassign an uplink set on my host, set to the wrong NIC (actually, on 3 NIC, event if I specified 2 when I added the logical switch...).
To proceed, I deleted the Logical Switch assigned in the host properties on Virtual Switches tab.
On my host, the teaming has been deleted, but unfortunately, on one of my NIC, the subnet set in my Logical Network subsit in "Logical Network Connectivity" and is greyed out.
It's said "The subnet an VLAN information is set by an uplink port profile set 'tVMNet' associated to this host an cannot be changed here".
But, if I removed the virtual switch, how can it be?
Thanks for any advice, I'm stuckHi all,
I did finaly remove the cluster from SCVMM and added it back, and it's working now. No more ghost config remaining.
I'm working on SCVMM from 3 days now, and I'm really not sure that's the easy to use tool we need to manage our small private cloud... It's buggy, slow, oposite of ergonomic and far too much cloud provider oriented... -
SCVMM Logical switch setup from not using SCVMM
I'm playing around with SCVMM 2012 SP1 with my Hyper-V 2012 setup. I have a test server but I'm looking at migrating from the way I was doing thing to the way SCVMM does things (with logical switch and multiple virtual network adapters per VLAN)
This is how I currently have my production setup:
Each Hyper-V host has two nics
Those two nics are teamed together using Windows 2012 Teaming (Hyper-V port, switch independent)
They were not configured with SCVMM
The Hyper-V virtual switch is named "Trunk"
All VM's are part of the Trunk virtual switch and tagged on the guest level
What I'm trying to do after watching this video: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/tdbe13-network-management-in-system-center-2012-sp1-vmm.aspx
Created my logical network "Datacenter"
Added my three VLANs to the Network site: (VLAN 1 is management, VLAN 10 is client, VLAN 505 is DMZ)
Created my Native Port Profile with HyperVPort and Switch Independent and mapped it to my network site and used the Datacenter logical network (DID NOT check network virtualization.. don't want to use that)
Created my logical switch with uplink mode TEAM and bound to my uplink port profile
Now on my test host:
I broke the existing TEAM I had. So now it is a server with two nics and the IP it had on one nic (10.10.0.207)
Went to properties of VM
Virtual Switches -> New Logical Switch -> Mapped to my "datacenter" logical switch, picked both physical adapters and mapped to my only uplink port profile I have
New Virtual Network Adapter
Name: Management, Checked this adapter inherits settings from physical, mapped to my Management Network, set to "Host Management" port profile"
New Virtual Network Adapter
Name: Client, adapter inherits is not checked, mapped to my Client Network, set to medium bandwidth port profile
However when I do this:
Error (2940)
VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server HYPERV07.mgmt.local could not be established.
Unknown error (0x80072ee2)
Recommended Action
Ensure that the HTTP service and/or the agent on the machine HYPERV07.mgmt.local are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS traffic on the configured port.
What I noticed:
I never lose connectivity to the host during this process
Always failes at 65%
Is this because I don't have a dedicate NIC for management? Also would there be an easy way to migrate from how my production is setup to what I'm trying to do?I am actually just finishing up but I redeployed and went to 2012 R2. It seemed to be able to do it.
What I did was created one logical switch with one vSwitch (which is a trunk). Then multiple VM Networks that have the different VLAN ID's.
It seemed to work OK except during the creating it wouldnt TAG VLAN 1 on the vSwitch when it created which was needed for it to communicate on my network. Once I saw it creatd it and lost connectivity I manually put the VLAN 1 on the vSwitch and set the
IP address for the host.
So far seems ok but I'm still associating VM's with the Logical Switch I setup and bringing everything back up... -
Cannot Add Logic Switch To host When Teaming two 10Gbe ports on the same CNA or on different CNAs
We are trying to set up a new Hyper-V environment for a customer with VMM2012 SP1. We have the hosts configured, imported, and clustered. The Uplink Port-Profile is set to the proper LACP teaming method for our switching. The Logical switch
is created in uplink mode Team and includes the proper Uplink Port Profile.
When we go to create a logical switch on the Hosts using the two interfaces to be teamed, we get Warning (25259), Error while applying physical adapter network settings to the teamed adapter. Error code details 2147942484.
I reasearched and found articles about setting up NICs in a correct order in the team from least capable to most capable, but in this case we are trying to team two ports on the same adapter... We have tried with Intel X520-2's and Brocade CNA1020's. The
odd thing is, if we try to do it on the onboard 1Gbe Broadcom cards, it works fine.
This happens on both clustered and non-clustered hosts as well. All VMM components are the latest versions with the latest updates.

How to transport the configuration of partner profiles and ports from Development to Quality systems.
Hi vidya,
Go through this hope u can get the solution.
WE20 Partner Profile
Here we create partner profile for each and every partner from / to which
the messages will be exchanged. There are 6 types of PF generally only
profiles of type LS(Logical System) ,KU(Customer) ,LI(Vendor) is used.
We specify the partner number and partner type and the agent and
the agent type responsible for handling of errors .
For every message send to the partner we have a outbound record and for
evry message coming from the partner we have the inbound record .
We specify the message in the otbound/inbound records ,double
clicking will take us to the detailed screen where the IDOC Type ,Port
and whether the IDCO will be immediatelt processed or collected are
mentioned.
WE21 Port Definition.
There are 6 types of ports but only 2 types File and Transactional RFC
types of ports are important.
We have to specify the RFC Destination before a port can be created.
SM59 RFC Destination
Here we specify the login settings for the destination including
the I.P address or Application Server name and the User name and
password. The information entered here is used to run Remote Function
Calls(RFC ) on the destination server .We can create number of types
of RFC Destinations but 3 types are important .
R/3 (R/3 to R/3), LS(logical system) and TCP/IP.
The name of the RFC destination should be same as that of Logical
System as it helps in creation of automatic partner profiles.
BD64 Distribution Model . Also known as Customer Distribution Model Used to
define all the messages that will be exchanged between remote systems
and the name of thes logical systems. Any filters can also be specified.
The model once created has to be distributed on every system which will
be communicating ,It can be maintained on only One system.
Reward points if helpful.
Thanks
