Sealed and unsealed management pack in scom ?

Dear all ,
What is Difference between sealed and unsealed management pack in scom?
I know like override alert can not be saved in sealed MP , is there any thing else ?
Sengo.

Hi,
A sealed management pack is a binary file that cannot be edited. An unsealed management pack is an XML file that can be edited. Sealed management packs should have an .mp extension, while unsealed management packs should have an .xml extension.
In general, management packs obtained from an application or hardware device vendor are sealed.
Although you cannot change the settings in a sealed management pack, you can still customize the applied settings of a management pack after it is imported by using overrides or by creating additional settings such as rules, monitors, and tasks that supersede
the management pack's default settings. All customizations that you create are saved to a separate management pack file.
Management packs can only reference another management pack if the management pack that is referenced is sealed

  • Replace unsealed management pack with sealed

    Hi,
Reaching out for some advise. We have some business services imported from SCOM DA:s via an unsealed management pack and would need (for dwh/reporting purpuses) to seal this management pack so that data is correctly transfered to DWH.
Is there any way to seal the management pack and import it without removing the unsealed management pack? If we export the unsealed mp - seal it - remove unsealed mp from SCSM - import the sealed MP - we loose all information about the business services.
    Any suggestions?
    Kind Regards,
    Ezequiel

    Hi E.O,
You cannot replace the unsealed MP with sealed one. What you can try is to export/import operations using csv files.

  • Cannot import sealed management pack from unsealed management pack

We have unsealed management pack imported to our scsm 2012. It has an additional dropdown list with list. But now we are now going to seal it but when we are going to import it now, it says it cannot be imported because there is already unsealed management
pack with the same name. If we are going to delete that unsealed managmeent pack, we may lost are data for that field. Is there any way for this?

As workaround you can export data to temp location (XML or something like this), remove unsealed, import new sealed and import data back from temp location. This can be easy done with SMLets

I'm having the same issue as the original poster.  I foolishly have been working with an unsealed management pack in our SCSM 2012 SP1, UR2 environment that contains a list of "Locations")  We need this to be sealed so it will not only sync to
the DW, but also so we can reference it with new templates/workflows.
I'm hoping for an answer from Anton on more detailed instructions for this workaround, to help a newbie to SCSM and SMLets.

  • Exchange Server 2013 Management Pack in SCOM 2012, can not update healthset status automatically

    Hi, all
I have Exchange Server 2013 and SCOM 2012 installed. I have imported Exchange Server 2013 Management Pack to SCOM 2012. Now I have a question that when there is a service not healthy, I can find the red alert in my alert view with the Exchange 2013 server,
but after the service is healthy automatically, the red alert is still there. I can only make it become green healthy status after reseting the healthset status in the healthset explorer.
Does anyone know how to make the server become green healthy status automatically after the monitor is healthy?
    Thank you.
    Nile

    Hi,
How many Exchange Servers do you have? Does this issue only occur on one Exchange Server?
Please check the application log on the problematic Exchange server and see whether there are any related event error.

  • Oracle Change and Configuration Management packs

    Hi,
We are looking at implementing the Oracle Change and Configuration Management packs.
I would be very interested to hear from anybosy who is currently using these packs.
I have done some preliminary tests, and am getting what seems like a very simple error, but i am at a loss as to how to fix it.
Will respond to replies with exact error and scenario.
    thanks in advance.
    melvyn

    Hi Nayab,
We are looking to implement the change and configuration management packs, to automate our change control.
As part of my initial testing i have the following scenario...
I have three database (namely TEST_DB, QA_DB and PROD_DB) all configured and manageable in EM.
I have create a sample test schema in TEST_DB with tables, views, sequences, procedures and triggers.
Using EM, i am able to transfer the sample schema (with all objects) from the TEST_DB to the PROD_DB.
If i manually create the sample schema in the QA_DB, i am able to transfer the sample schema from the QA_DB to the PROD_DBm using EM.
When i try to transfer the sample schema from the TEST_DB to the QA_DB i get an error in the synchronization phase.
The capturing of the baseline, and the dictionary comparison phase complete successfully, but when i do the synchronization phase, i get
    the follwing error...
    SQL> ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0
This seems strange because, it must have been able to see the destination database for it to complete the dictionary comparison phase, so
i cannot understand now why it cannot connect to the destination database to complete the synchronization phase.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

  • Unsealed Management Pack

    Hello,
We have created a custom config item class and imported the management pack unsealed into our environment. We have had the MP this way for over a month and some of our SR's have the custom config item as an affected Config item. This was one of our first
custom classes and I didn't realize it would be best practice to always import these types of MP's as sealed Management packs. I can not see the class from the DW. My question is, can I just import a sealed version of this MP or do I have to remove the unsealed
MP. Will removing the unsealed MP cause me to lose all data related to it?

ya, Rob has it right, but just to clarify a bit:
you can't upgrade a unsealed MP to a sealed MP. you'll get an error about duplicates
you can't create a MP reference an unsealed mp. unsealed MPs can change in ways that aren't upgrade compatible, so nothing else can depend upon them.
any class you create in an unsealed MP will never get moved to the DW, because the DW MPSync Job only copies sealed MPs, due to versioning considerations.
if you delete the class prototype, all object of that class will be removed from the active service Manager database.
Classes (specifically sealed classes that can be referenced) have certain constraints on what counts as compatible for upgrade, i.e. all properties defined for those classes must stay the same in all future versions.
relationships to objects that are removed (for instance, because their class is removed) will be removed as well.
New objects will get new internal IDs, and not "recover" any information from the old objects. same with classes in different MPs, even if their internal names are the same.
Back to the point at hand, your best way out is exactly what Rob mentioned: Export the data to some other location, like CSV, remove your unsealed class, wait for the active database to clean up, import a sealed version, and reimport the data. be sure to
export any relationships, such as owner, created by, relates to work item, etc.

  • UCS management pack for SCOM

I've installed the UCS management pack for Microsoft SCOM 2007 R2. It appears to be working, however I now keep seeing all computers that have the SCOM agent installed trying to run the cisco.ucs.computer.probeaction.vbs script, which fails and generates alerts. Does anyone know why these servers that are unrelated to UCS would be trying to run these scripts, or how to fix this problem?

The Problem is that you use an “&” string in a name of one of the protection Groups.
Change the name of the protection Group where you have used an “&” symbol
. Restart the “System Center Management” and you should see that the discovery success.
If still have same issue, started to register the differtent dll’s again on the machine and apparently registering the MOMScriptAPI.dll

  • Management packs to scom agent server ?

How SCOM agent will get Management Packs from Management server ? Will all Management Packs will get downloaded to all SCOM agent server?
Or how does Management server will come to know only required Management Packs
for agent server? (I heard Management Server  will scan the registry to of agent server to understand the application and requirement , then it sent Management Packs
for agent server , is that correct ? )

On import, a complex and expensive series of operations occur.
The MP is written to a table.
The MP is loaded by the config service and all discovery targets are examined
A list of agents is created based on whether the agent manages a type instance that is a target of a discovery in each new MP.  When this is found to be a match, the config service marks the agent config as stale in memory.
The agent periodically contacts the RMS (config service).  In the response, a "you are stale" flag is included.  THis causes the agent to ask for a resynchronization.
The agent gets a response with all of the state for every type instance being managed, as well as a list of mps and versions and indicators of whether the agents copy of these is stale.
The agent then requests any files it needs and receives them (this is expensive)
The agent then loads each MP, replacing any workflows that are necessary, and starts normal agent processing (discoveries run immediately - this is expensive).
Agent submits new discovery data.  The config service responds with data indicating what the official state of each managed instance sent in the discovery is. (this is expensive)
Each time you create an override and save it, the above is repeated. (this is why it is slow to make online overrides)

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 Update Rollup 5 - DB and DW SQL script and the Management Packs

    Hi,
    I am applying SCOM 2012 SP1 update rollup 5 from KB article : 2904680.
Step#  4 and 5 from the "Installation Information" sections says to run the SQL queries(UR_Datawarehouse.sql and Update_rollup_mom_db.sql) located at "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012 SP1\Operations
    Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\."
But I do not have "System Center 2012 SP1\Operations Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\." folder location on  my SCOM Management Servers. Similarly I do not have the MPs given in Step #6.
Can someone please let me know from where else can I get these SQL scripts and the MPs. What if I don't run these SQL scripts. Is that OK?

You will find it on below path%SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\.
inside system center 2012 folder> search to Server folder and inside it you will find SQL Script
