Search text in Excel table in a Word 2013 document

Hello,
someone would be there if there is a file content search tool on Windows (such as Google search or DocFetcher ..)
that would return a string in an Excel table itself contained in a word document 2013.
This worked with such DocFetcher with old office version. But since 2013 dox Office Word and Excel xlsx had to change and it no longer works.
thank you in advance
greetings.
JLuc

Hi Jlcapel,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
This forum is for develoers discussing developing issues about

  • Excel table in a word document coming up black during pdf convert

I am converting word 2003 documents to pdf using adobe professional 7.0 and an excel table inside the word document is coming out as completely filled in black after the convert.
any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks tim

If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Word conversion, with the response that different versions of Word have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Go to the Acrobat update page and apply the updates for your version of Acrobat
IN NUMBER ORDER (updates are not cumulative so, using version 8 as an example, you must apply 8.1.0 before the 8.1.1 update)

Acrobat 7.0 has several updates to apply

  • Unable to click on excel object within a word 2010 document

Whenever a user tries to click an Excel Object within a Word 2010 document, the error "Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occured and this feature  is no longer functioning properly. Would you
like to repair this feature now?". Clicking YES runs a repair on Office 2010, which does not resolve the issue. Clicking No gets you the following prompt: "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your
computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Excel or ensure that any dialog boxes in Excel are closed."
Operating System: Windows 7, Office Version: 2010
I've tried the following to resolve the issue, without success:
Running the Office Repair as suggested in the prompt
There are no open dialog boxes in Excel
There are no COM add-ins or Excel add-ins active in Excel
Starting Word in Safe Mode (clicking CTRL on open) does not resolve the issue.
"Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" is unchecked in Excel.
I am able to edit this document with no problem on a machine running Windows 7 with Office 2007 or even office 2013.

    Hi,
Do you see this problem if you start Windows in Safe Mode? You might want to have a try and verify result, some outside application may be preventing the OLE server/client connection.
Have you ever checked your anti virus? Try to disable it and check again.
Please make sure to install any updates to your system or Office products. It's important to make it up to date.
Try to go to your task manager to kill any excel process and then try again.
I have seen a case that user finally fixed this with a clean uninstallation and reinstallation, if issue presists with all above steps, you might want to do a completely reinstallation and then try again.
    Thanks,

  • Is there a way to programmatically save a Word 2013 document into a Word 2010 in compatibility mode?

    Hi,
I have a Word 2013 document that I want to open in Word 2010.  The problem is this document has a repeating section content control and if I open it in Word 2010, the content control is removed so the data won't be seen.  Is there any way programmatically
to save the document in Word 2010 compatible mode?  So that I can open in both Word 2013 and 2010.  By the way, I'm using C# and OpenXML for this.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on my tested, I created a "Rich Text" content control in Word 2013, and it'll works fine in Word 2010.
As far as I know, in Word 2013, content controls provide three key improvements: improved visualization, support for XML Mapping for Rich Text content controls, and a new content control for repeating content.
Please see the article "What's new with content controls in Word 2013" it may be helpful to you.
If you have any further question about coding/programing, please post your question to MSDN forum.

  • How to repair a corrupted word 2013 document?

Yesterday I was working on a very important Microsoft Word (2013) document, when it suddenly crashed. Upon trying to reopen the file Word said: “The
file is corrupted and cannot be opened”. I have tried all of the other methods of restoring it, such as opening it in a different program, or opening it and choosing "open and repair" in MS Word.

When a Word document file is corrupted, then you can try several methods to recover it:
    1. First of all, you can try the recovery function integrated with Microsoft Word, as follows:
    1) On the File menu, click Open.
    2) In the Look in list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file that you want to open.
    3) In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the file.
    4) Select the file that you want to recover.
    5) Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
You may find more information about this at:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/recover-the-text-from-a-damaged-document-HP005189610.aspx (for Word 2003)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893672/en-us (for Word 2007/2010/2013)
    2. Second, since Word 2003, it provides a "Document Recovery" or "AutoRecover" mechanism so that when Word is shutdown abnormally, the Word file being edited will be recovered when Word is launched next time, which makes the file recovery possible.
    See below:

    3. If 1 and 2 does not work, then you may try third-party tools such as DataNumen Word Repair at
    http://www.datanumen.com/word-repair/
It provides a free demo version so that you can try to see if the data you want can be recovered or not.

  • Removing Ink from Word 2013 document

    Hi there
I have a word 2013 document with ink markings on it and I am finding it difficult to delete or remove them. I do not have a tablet or stylus, and am finding it impossible to remove these stubborn ink markings. Any help would be appreciated, I have already
tried creating a "delete all ink" macro per an often cited YouTube tutorial, with no luck.

    Hi,
Ink for Word is an addon to Microsoft Word that brings enhanced annotation support to Word documents.
Have you tried the option of Reject All Changes and Stop Tracking under REVIEW tab?
On the Review tab, in the Tracking group, click the arrow next to
Show Markup, select Ink. Then in Changes
group, click Reject All Changes and Stop Tracking or Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking in
    Accept and Reject list.
Please have a try and feel free to post back.

  • The appearence of tables in some Word 2010 documents changes after KB2880529

I wanted to alert you that, since our company has applied
KB2880529, some users are reporting Word 2010 documents (docx) having their appearence changed.
More precisely, the issue concern the table inserted in the Word document : They are all messed up. For exemple, the begining of the table can look ok, then a few lines of the table are
badly miss aligned (like moved 2 cm to the right), then you've got a few normal lines, then again several bads, and so on.
Also, some of the cells, that were in the last column of the table, may appear half outside of the table.
And the worse part is that, even if you take some time to manualy fix the table, when you save the document and re-open it, everything is bad again, and exactly as it was before... so basicaly
the save doesn't work for the tables (it work if you change some text in the table, but not for the table itself (size of the columns, location of the columns, so on)).
I can't profite any file because they are of a very sensitive nature and can't leave our company, even if I remove most of the content, our IT security doesn't allow it.
    Anyway :
    - we are absolutly sure it's
KB2880529 that does that because when we uninstall the KB, and re-open the document, it look normal again.
    - it seems to concern only documents that were created using some old Word 2003 templates some time ago, and then opened in Word 2010. As far as I know it doesn't happens on 100% Word 2010
    documents.
So, we are currently doing a package installed by SCCM 2012 in order to uninstall it on all the PC which received it a few days ago.
Let's hope you'll correct that issue... and if possible that, in a near futur, you'll had a feature in SCCM 2012 to allow us to unintall KBs, like it was possible with WSUS.

I'm sure there are some ways to fix the files one by one. Indeed, our tests indicate that it's possible, for exemple, to open them in "LibreOffice 4.2" (a fork of OpenOffice), which displays them correctly, and then save the file in .doc and then use
Office 2010 to open this .doc and save it in .docx.
But what I've forget to indicate is that the issue touch probably thousands of documents that have been placed in a "document management application" (I'm not sure how to correctly translate) over the years, documents that may be hundreds of users need to
look at, for reference, from time to time... but basicaly the documents are "frozen" / archived, they must not be edited by anybody.
I very much doubt you can expect MS to not apply updates, including via the next Service Pack, just because some tables in some of your documents are corrupt. Besides which, the same problem will quite likely resurface when you next upgrade to a newer version
of Office. Ultimately, someone is going to have to check out all the documents with tables and verify their content. The scope of that project might be narrowed down after you've checked a few documents and found some common features between those with the
corrupt tables. It's easy enough to write a macro to test the files to see which ones have tables. That can serve as the first step in narrowing the scope of the project. It's also possible have the macro that repairs the files restore their
original time/date stamps if that's important.
An entirely different approach would be to temporarily uninstall the update on one PC. Then use that PC to convert all the documents to PDF. Then use the PDFs in the "document management application". Since the documents "must not be edited by anybody" the
PDF format is inherently more secure in that regard and can have security attributes set to prevent printing and/or content copying. The PDF format is also impervious to Word's tendency to change document layouts whenever you do little things like updating
printers or changing between doc & docx formats.

  • Sample Word 2013 documents in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, & Korean?

    Hi;
Can someone (actually 5 someone's) please post a sample docx file where it has just a line of text in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, or Korean and is created in Word 2013 where Windows & Word are both the local version for Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew,
    Japanese, & Korean.
Please don't set any formatting. Have it be the default font, style, etc. I want to get what Word uses as the default for all settings for each language. For Chinese, if possible, one from PRC and one from Taiwan.
    Thank you - dave

    Hi,
Due to the limitation of my resources here, currently I'm not able to do the same with other languages, I really apologize if I brought you any inconvenience.
As I mentioned in another post, the default fonts depend upon the version of Office, they change in different versions:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f4615e44-8804-4ba4-bab7-1e76513e2d15/what-is-the-default-font-for-cjk-bidi?forum=word
The results I got about Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese were from Office 2013, Windows 8.1, both local versions.
Actually the default font can be set easily, I hope this can be a little helpful:

  • RoboHelp 9 not generating Word 2013 document

I am trying to generate a Word document (Word 2013) from RH9. It goes through the generation process and just before it would normally offer to view the result (the Word document) the following message appears:
'A supported version of Microsoft Word does not exist. Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer'
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

That will be because you are not using a supported version.
Rh11 is the only version that supports 2013. You may find that if you right click the print layout and select properties, then you will be able to generate but no other way will work. You will not be able to import Word documents.
You can have both 2010 and 2013 installed if you have the licences. Just run 2010 before using it with Rh.

  • Multiple users, same color in Word 2013 document

A document that was uploaded to a content management system, downloaded and worked on by other users who exchanged the document via e-mail, then uploaded again, had the same color for two users after being downloaded once more. The two users still had the
same color after I shut everything down and logged back in again. All other users (there were about six in all) had individual colors.
How can I fix this problem, so that each user has a separate color--not just four users having separate colors and two users sharing a color? There certainly were colors that were not in use in the document (green, yellow, silver, etc.).
Because the document resided in a content management system, I was referred to this forum instead of the more general Word 2013 forum. Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Hi,
I'm not sure what color it is in your post, font color or else?
Please also explain the user's process to handle the document, if possible, step by step, so that I can have a better understanding.

  • Which option to use to search text in multiple table columns

Hi, I have a case where I have 4 db tables. On the UI there is an option to search a keyword from some columns of these 4 tables.
Table1 = summary, description are the columns user can search on
Table2 = project_name is the column user can search on
Table3 = need_by_date is the column user can search on
Table4 = owner is the column user can search on
On the UI, user can enter a keyword and check the columns they want to search on. Out of the above, they can check one column, or more, or all.
My question is what is the best option to use oracle text search in this case.
Option 1 = I create a procedure to select these columns and then create an index on this procedure. In this case, is there a way to specify
    which columns to search on?
Option 2= Create 4 separate indexes on these table/columns and then query the columns which user has selected to search on.
    Any other better idea?

    Hi,
multicolumn only works on columns in the same table.
If you can also query just on one field, then an index per field will be preferable. If you query always on all the fields then the one index approach is good. For this last the options are:
    1. Use User_datastore, create a procedure and a dummy column
    2. Create a materialized view for the query and build an index on this materialized view
    3. Store the fields as an xml in the main table and index the xml column.
The maintanance of options 1 and 3 are bigger, because you need triggers to be aware of an update. Option 2 and 3 will need more storage.

  • How to search text in the table?

Suppose, I've selected some fragment in my document, and I need to find and replace some text in it. Everything is ok, untill I select a part of a table with this text. Does anyone has idea, how to search through the selected cells in the table? Or, just how to iterate them?

  • Identifying a content control in a Word 2013 document and accessing the current "text" value of the control.

I'm new to VBA and need to better understand the syntax for identifying, accessing control "value" and setting the value from a user form.
My task is this, I have a word document containing the new Content Controls. I need to be able to access each individual control to initialize a UserForm control. I then need to update the "values of the controls on exiting the UserForm. Can someone
proved some simple sample code showing this functionality? I have surmised that the "range" attribute holds the value of the control but I need the textual or logical value of the control.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gunteacher,
My task is this, I have a word document containing the new Content Controls. I need to be able to access each individual control to initialize a UserForm control. I then need to update the "values of the controls on exiting the UserForm.
What's content control you are using? Based on my understanding, we can indentify the content control by its tag and get the value of content control and initialize the control on the userform in the initialize event of userform. For example,
code below is that get the text of rich text content control:
    ActiveDocument.ContentControls(1).Range.Text
And here are some helpful links about content control for your reference:
    ContentControl Object (Word)
    Working with Content Controls
What did you mean "I then need to update the "values of the controls on exiting the UserForm."? Did you mean that when the values of content control is changed, it should update the control on the user form which was open before?
As far as I know, there is no such event suitable for this secnario. If you want content control to support this event, I suggest that you submit the feedback from the "Smile Face" at the top right corner of Word.
