Searching in DB files - Any search engine available ??

HELP:
I have several TIFF images I need to make it available on web as
searchable content.
Option 1:
I am planning of OCRing the images to text files. The file name
will be a unique ID. A DB table will contain meta data inforamtion
about the file. A search engine (??) can index these files. And the
results contain summary from the OCR text. And the resulting head
line will contain link to a JSP passing the UNIQUE ID as arguement
and JSP will read the tiff image for display. Thus I can track who
viewing the image and how many times.
Now any one know if there is a free search engine that can do this ?
I am looking into Lucene but I think it does not return summaries and
I am not sure if I can manipulate headlines..
Option 2: I can store the images and text in a DB (Oracle) is there
a search eingine that can index these ocred text files in db and
the result should be heading (from db meta data) linked to jsp with
doc id.
Example:
This is test <- from meta data
<p>This document contain result of your search... <- from ocr text

Lucene will allow you to do what you need -- it is content-agnostic. It has a concept of Document objects, which can contain one or more Field objects. You could have several Fields, like this:
Body -> contains the text of the file
Title -> contains the title
URL -> a web-friendly URL to retrieve the image?
PreviewURL -> a web-friendly URL to retrieve a preview?
Summary -> Short document summary
... and so on...
You can structure the Document object any way you want... Fields can be marked as stored, unstored (but still indexed...), etc.
You will need to write a couple of pieces of code to implement a lucene-based search engine:
1) Document indexer -- this is just a class that spiders through all your documents and adds them to the index. For your case, it would loop through the database and generate an index entry for each part. This should probably be on a timer to keep the index up-to-date.
2) Search UI -- this just presents the user with some way to search the documents.
Anyway, the devil's in the details, and this is no small project. Hope this gives you a good start.

  • Only US search engines available?

Am I being stupid, as I cant find any way to use a regional search engine from the search box - I can select Google or Yahoo, but its a real pain getting US results every time. Firefox allows you a much broader range of search options including Google UK, which would be REALLY useful, but there doest appear to be anything in preferences that I can change.

    Hi Gav,
Unfortunately, you are correct. There is no way to change the search engine in Safari (on Windows at least). More often than not I just tag a 'UK' to my search term to help Google/Yahoo know I'm interested in UK based results. Not ideal I know, but one way to improve the results.

  • Browser search engines

I've been right through the Help files, but I can't find how to change the default search engine on the browser. I would prefer to use google.co.uk rather than bing.com

Usually when I start typing in the browser, looking for a site etc., in the upper right-hand corner of the screen you'll get a small icon where you can see the search engines available. Click on the icon and it will give you the available choices. I have Google, Yahoo and Bing. If I click on Google it automatically becomes the default search engine. If you want your browser to automatically open to Google UK, then you'd have to go to the Google page/site, enable Google to read your location, the UK, and then set Google as your home page. I don't know if that makes a difference or helps. Let me know.

    Hi Straydog,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Google disappears on list of search engines on search bar

I used to have Google as the default search engine on Firefox search bar. After Firefox was upgraded to 3.6, I noticed the search bar shows Yahoo as the search engine instead of Google. Google also disappeared from the list of search engine available on the search bar.

See if you can get back the missing search engines if you left-click the search engines icon and open Manage Search Engines and click Restore Defaults
You can try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]

  • How do I delete a toolbar that was added by a plugin? Plug-in's been uninstalled, but the toolbar is still there and any new tabs open on their search engine (even though I have Tab Mix set to open tabs on a duplicate page). Help?

Running Firefox on Windows XP3. I installed a plugin from Savevid.com, which they now require. (I've used that site for at least a year with no problem ever.) Everything was fine but it added a toolbar to my browser, and it seems to have reset Firefox somehow so that any new tab opens on "Searchqu", some low-rent search engine. I uninstalled the plug-in altogether, but the toolbar is still there, and I can't make the reset on the search engine go away. I use Tab Mix Plus (also never had this problem before with it), but no matter what I do, the tabs will not open to anything other than searchqu. (Tab Mix has the option to open to a duplicate tab - what it was using BEFORE all this - but changing that no longer has any effect.)
Anyone know how to deal with a problem like this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

    Problem with search
After upgrading from 8 to 9.0.1 I no longer have any search engines installed. I would like to install Google as my default search engine. When I click on “get more search engines” I cannot find Google or Bing or …

I resolved my issue. Renamed search.sqlite and reinstalled Firefox 9.0.1
All default search engines are now available.

  • Firefox search box no longer displays any search engines and won't save any new ones

A while back the default search box in firefox 4 randomly lost all the search engines in it and the box to restore defaults is permanently greyed out so I can't restore it. I've tried deleting the files mentioned in other responses as well as just moving them out of the folder with no success. I feel that the only way to possibly fix this is to completely remove all traces of firefox from my laptop and reinstall but i'd rather not go through reinstalling all the add ons I have etc if it can be helped with a simpler fix.

I said in my initial post that I had tried all those fixes. Tried everything with the sqlite files and the form history. No luck. Don't have either of the extensions and it can't be any of the others as even in safe mode it still isn't any different. I have also performed plenty of virus scans and nothing has come up.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

I did delete the .json files and nothing happend when I restarted firefox.
I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled from a new download. The .json files where not created. The log file shows that the search engines where installed. I opend Help>Troubleshooting information and reset firefox and that helped. All serch engines where ther and work and I can now write URL adresses in the adress box.

  • Why won't google or any other search engines load?

A coworker of mine has downloaded Fastbrowser search, and I have gotten rid of it (I think), but now, no search engine other than Fastbrowser search will load! I can't even access my gmail account now because it has completely blocked Google. I've deleted the addon thingy, removed the file from my control panel, and just about everything, but to no avail. I just want my Google back!!!
I am using version 3.0.15 (Can't or won't update for some reason) on Windows XP

Never mind.  It seems like the problem is fixed after logging into the administrator account, logging into and out of Google Drive, and logging back into my own account.  I have no idea how that fixed the issue, but it it did.

  • There are no search engines installed and I cannot add any engines.

I have installed Firefox 4.0b7 and want to use the search bar. However, no search engines have been installed and the browser will not accept the addition of new engines.

Deleting from iPhoto or image capture after import should be fine and shouldn't cause any issues. Deleting from the folder view of finder, can cause issues as the camera can the image is still there. You can try emptying the trash on your mac if you deleted them via the finder, as although you've deleted it, it's only marked as trashed and not actually deleted until you empty the trash - ie it won't relieve the space taken by the files.
If your still having issues after you try this, you may be best formating the memory card. This will wipe all data on it though, so make sure you do copy anything off that yo u want to keep! Format from the camera, so that choosing the format>erase all option from the menu of most cameras.

  • Most search engines are not working, only Google Search works and I get 404 file not found error when clicking the links.

I have been trying virus killers, malware software from microsoft, I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it, I used the option to change all my options to the basic default installed options, I am able to search without problems using Internet Explorer on all search engines, Google Search engine works in firefox browser; but all the links give the 404 file not found error. Links from my Gmail account do not work either...giving me the 404 error. Firefox is much faster than Internet explorer however, this link problem makes me wonder if firefox is really any good.
