Searching in HTML-formatted CLOBs

Me and my colleagues are designing a database where some HTML documents have to be saved. The two obvious options for that are :
1. Storing the HTML in CLOB fields
2. Saving HTML files on the server and storing only the filenames in the database
I would prefer option 1, but we need to consider how fast string searches against all HTML files will perform.
In option 2, we could use some Google-like search engine, and then query the database against the filename to get the relevant infos (author,creation date,...). This speaks in favour of generating the filename automatically from the table's primary key.
In option 1, string search in CLOBs seems very fast from a little test I did, but we don't want to retrieve HTML tags, so we need a fast way of stripping these tags. I wonder whether there exists a facility for that in Oracle (or are regular expressions needed ?)
So, what option sounds better ?

Hi Dear,
Did you look at Oracle Text capabilities ?
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/text.101/b10730/toc.htm
Instead of using
where clob_col like '%QPG%'
you could then use some kind of
where contains(clob_col, 'QPG') > 0
I think you will get no tag if you use the NULL_FILTER. Have a look. Maybe you could also post on the Text forum

    LONG has been depricated since 8i so I don't believe there is a general solution to go backwards short of reloading the data.

  • KM Doc iView to display in HTML format

    Dear KM friends
    I created a KM Document iView to display a MS Excel file.
    My requrirement is
    1. I want to diplay that iView on click on HTMLB link
    2. I want to display that MS Excel file in HTML format, just like a link in Search result.
    plz reply me
    Thanx in advance
    Lakshmikantha

    Hi,
    You could call com.sap.km.cm.document iview with the RID of the document in order to display it's Excel content from the HTMLB Link:
    Link nameLink = new Link(resourceName);
    nameLink.setReference(docUri + resource.getRID());
    where docUri is:
    IURLGeneratorService urlService =
    (IURLGeneratorService) ResourceFactory.getInstance().getServiceFactory().getService(IServiceTypesConst.URLGENERATOR_SERVICE);
    docUri = urlService.getRelativeUri(PathKey.CONTENT_ACCESS_PATH).toString();
    Hope this helps.
    Romano
    PS: about showing the HTML content of the Excel file - If I am right - I think that the HTML content of the Excel (PDF, DOC or other resources) is created on the TREX server and is available only when showing found indexed documents.
    I've found the class, that manages this HTMLVersion, maybe you can have use of it (or just have a look):
    <i>package: com.sapportals.wcm.control.search
    class: HighlightedContentControl
    method: renderHTMLVersion</i>

  • Need to send my spool in HTML format as Email attachment

    Hi All,
        Can anyone let me know how to send a HTML attachment in a mail.
    I have a ALV Report, when i execute, my report should pick the ALV Report output from spool, and should send a mail with spool output as HTML attachment.
    Please explain me how i need to do the above.
    Regards
    Nanda

    Hi Nanda,
    You can use 2 reports for this.
    In one report just display the ALV..
    and in the second report submit this first report  to memory and get it html format and then send it as an email.
    Just check this code (instead of alv...this is a normal report that is sent as HTML attachment)

  • No able to view message in HTML format?

    I have a web server that uses GWIA to send email messages to the Internet and GroupWise users. When I read the message in GroupWise 7.03 HP1 client, I see a blank page. I have to do View > HTML format then I can see the content of this message. However, when I forward this message to others, it shows the blank format.
    However, the same email that goes to the Internet is sent as HTML format properly.
    I wonder if there is a switch on GWIA that will resolve the above. I only have /flatfwd enabled so far. I am not sure if /attachmsg will help because the same email sends out properly to other mail server.
    Anyone has any idea?

  • Send email in html format

    Hello everybody,
    First of all:
    I already searched via internet but couldn´t found an example which helped me to solve my problem. Anyway I believe it must be very simple what I want to do.
    My Problem: I want to send an email in html format, but until now everything I tried didn´t worked. Please help me. What do I have to do?
    I already tried a lot of code typing. For example this one:
    this.resolveNode("#event").submit.target="mailto:"+email_adressen+"subject="+subject+"&Body="+body+"&MessageFormat=HTML";
    But nothing is working, you always see the html tags in the text - they have no effect at all :-( .
    Best regards,
    Paolo

    I was trying to do the same thing...I found this on the java.sun.com website somewhere. Hope it works out for you.

    // Setup mail server
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", host);
    // Get session

    Session.getInstance(props, null);

  • Email smartform in html format

    Hello all,
    I've been searching SDN for help with creating an email in html format via smartforms. Pavan Bayyapu's blog was really helpful and I've also used program SF_XSF_DEMO_MAIL as the basis for my program.  I followed their examples exactly but my emails always appear as a .MTL attachment, never as just the body of the email.
    I tried removing the file name from lo_mime_helper->set_main_html and from lo_mime_helper->add_binary_part as suggested by some other folks but I haven't had any success.
    Has anyone solved this same issue?  Maximum points will be given to helpful suggestions.
    Thank you.

    Hi Saurabh
    How can i provide/setup Oracle Alert in such a way that message send through Alert are HTML formatted text? I belive you cant use html for alert. You can use workflow or plsql to send html mails.

  • Desktop.mail  Mailto with HTML formatted email

    I'm trying to make my application send an email with an HTML formatted table in the body. I've got the text to be visible in the email, but it doesn't format according to the tags and the tags are visible. HTML email is turned on in the email client.
    I've been searching all over for a solution. Are there some escape characters I need to use? Has anyone been able to do this or have any ideas?
    String html = "<table>";
            for (int x = 0; x < reportTable.size();x++){
                ReporterObject table = reportTable.get(x);
                html = html+"<tr>" +
                        "<td>"+table.getReportDate()+"</td>" +
                        "<td>"+table.getSchoolName()+"</td>" +
                        "<td>"+table.getTeacherSpoken()+"</td>"+
                        "<td>"+table.getGoal()+"</td>" +
                         "<td>"+table.getAchieved()+"</td>" +
                         "<td>"+table.getPercentAchieved()+"</td>"+
                         "<td>"+table.getApproaches()+"</td>" +
                         "<td>"+table.getAppointments()+"</td>"+
                         "<td>"+table.getGIEA()+"</td>" +
                         "<td>"+table.getReport()+"</td>" +
                         "</tr>";
            html = html + "</table>";
    URI email = new URI("mailto", "mailto:?to=" + emailField.getText() + " &SUBJECT=AL Reports &BODY=" + greeting + html + salutation, null);

    Please see
    http://javaalmanac.com/egs/javax.mail/SendApp.html
    for Quintessential Program to Send E-Mail.
    Then substitute line
    msg.setText(content);
    /with this one
    msg.setContent( content , "text/html");
    it should do in simplest form.

  • Tcode based iviews in HTML format

    Hi,
    Please elt me knpw how to display the Tcode based iviews in HTML format.Please let me know.
    Regards,
    Manu

    Hello Manu,
    If you are integrating SAP transacations using SAP GUI for html may not adher to Portal look and feel.
    Also, if you are using SAP GUI for windows may not help. You can use application parameters to hide some menus and icons of SAP transaction.
    The best option could be SAP GUI for Java, but this confugration settings needs to be done at server level and each client machines.
    Search for information with SAP Gui for java in sdn might help.
    Try some settings in ITS theme generator may also help.

  • Searching the HTML Stream

    I need to search NOT WELL FORMATTED HTML for data extraction. Are there any stream searching library in java.

    Hi,
    Anil_Pathak wrote:
    I need to search NOT WELL FORMATTED HTML for data extraction. Are there any stream searching library in java.If the "NOT WELL FORMATTED" is not too bad, one could extend HTMLDocument and overwrite HTMLDocument.HTMLReader. There the parser callback is involved an so one can overwrite the handleXY methods to get the tags and the text out of the HTML.
    Example
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    import javax.swing.text.html.*;
    import javax.swing.text.html.parser.*;

  • PZ11 - REM Statement in HTML format in ESS

    Hi
    Can we display the Remuneration statement in HTML format instead of the PDF format in ESS? If yes, how do we do that ?
    Currently our system is converting the smart_form to PDF and displaying in the PDF through PZ11 transaction.
    Thanks

    Hi VAB
    You need to call BAPI  BAPI_GET_PAYSLIP_HTML (FM) to meet your business requirement.
    The conversion from ABAP-listobject to HTML will be done via function module WWW_HTML_FROM_LISTOBJECT
    Also please notice: Note 425548 says that we must "adapt our list" so that it's layout is
    similar to an HTML table. The ESS documentation for renumeration statement says that if we change the form we must also change the HTML templates. The HTML appears to be generated from the form by a "converter routine". Documentation refers to templates HR_PAY_PAYSLIP and HR_PAY_PAYSLIP_PAGE for building the renumeration statement. using SMW0 to see them.

  • Physical page is not the same in HTML format

    I am using Oracle 6i to develop some reports. While running this reports using the developer, the logical page is the same size as the physical page.
    When generating the same reports in HTML format the physical pages do not seem to be the same as the logical pages, since the contents of one page is being printed in two pages, whereas using the developer the report will print only in one page. I look at the Layout Model properties and I have set it in the following way :
    Layout Main Section
    Width : 8.5
    height : 11
    Horizontal Panels per PAge 1
    VErtical Panels per page : 1
    Orientation Default
    Report Width : 80
    Report Height : 66
    Any Help will be appreciated

    Open you QuickTime movie, go to window and select Show movie properties, select videotrack and change Transperancy (low left) and select Composition in stead of "none - allow dithering" from the drop menu. See if this helps.
