Second COA/ Operating Unit setup

I have a requirement to implement a second operating unit that would utilize a slightly different chart of accounts, that will eventually be consolidated to a less detailed original chart of accounts.
Do I have to setup a new Legal Entity and a new primary ledger to accomplish this?
The new chart of accounts is more detailed than the original one and would have an extra segment. Since an Operating Unit can only be assigned to a Primary Ledger, and the same Legal Entity cannot be used by more than one primary Ledger, does that mean that setting up a new Legal Entity is inevitable?
Is there another way to achieve this?

I believe this is done be defining profile options at the responsibility level - see MOS Doc 551282.1 (What Profile Is Used To Populate the Operating Unit In OM Systems Parameter Form?)

  • R12: Is Inventory setup mandatory for Operating Unit setup?

    Hello,
I am doing the setup of an operating unit for a business on a fresh R12 install.
Is the setting up of the Inventory Organization (with all the info like e.g material account, cost of goods sold etc) is mandatory even if the business will not setup inventory module?

This is not a required field and can left null.
Or If we do not have the Operating Unit with "Inventory Organization" as classification, an error will popup when setting up payables?
The problem is that, we have to ask the client about the accounting key for material, COGS etc... and he want to know why we need this since he does not use Inventory module.

  • Legal Entity and Operating Unit Setup

    Hi,
we are in a process of implementing Oracle Financials R12.1.3 to a group of company (Ex:"A").
That parent company ("A") associates with another three subsidiaries (Ex: A1, A2 and A3). All these four companies can share the same ledger and operating in one country.
So I'm with bit confusion whether It can use One Legal Entity with four operating units or do we have to create four legal entities?
Awaiting for clarifications and Thanks / Lathika

    Hi All,
You have to think beyond application functionality, if there these 3 subsidiaries are registered with different name under local governance law then you should create separate Legal entity for each company or subsidiary.

  • Need help about Financials Operating Unit Level Setup data object transforming

    Hi All,
We met some issues while using iSetup to create new OU from existing one via 'Financials Operating Unit Level Setup’ template and need your help.
We can perform Extracting successfully, but when we’re tring to proceed Transform, it seems iSetup can’t meet our expectation.
Firstly, after succesful creation of the Transform for 'Financials Operating Unit Level Setup’.
We clicked the transform icon and it led us to the Details page.
However, we can’t search out any result on that page, is it a bug?
If we didn’t performed ‘Transform All’, then there’s no row shows on Transform Details page so we can't make any transform, as below:
But after performing a ‘Transform All’ task, revisite the Details page and unfreeze, Operating Units and Inventory Organizations became transformable, as shown in below screenshots.
Secondly, we found the transformable data objects are so limited, even the whole Payable Options and Finacial Options doesn’t support, as well as the Operating Unit short code.
Is there any documents indicating which data objects are transform supported? Or if there’s any sql query for it?
Will be very appreciated if anyone can help.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that machines failed to ping the server name, and successfully to ping its IP address.
First check to see if DNS related port 53 is opened on the DC, or disable any anti-various software temporally, then ping the DC’s
FQDN and confirm that if the name would be resolved.

You domain name is REGENCYVILLAGE.LOCAL. It seems that the DNS server failed to resolve your DC’s name. check the zone named REGENCYVILLAGE.LOCAL to see if an A record is corresponding to your DC.
    >75.75.75.75 (<name unavailable>) [Invalid], 75.75.76.76 (<name unavailable>) [Invalid]
It seems that invalid IP address of DNS server on the TCP/IP properties of DC.
I want to confirm with you that if you have installed the DNS with installing AD DS. Just the DC’s name can’t be resolved? Or any other device also has the same question?

  • Setups for new operating units not loading to target

If there is a new operating unit in the source, setups for that operating unit do not seem to load into the target if that new operating unit does not exist in the target.
Is there a script to address this issue?
Any additional advice will be appreciated.
    Edited by: user11071661 on Apr 16, 2009 1:34 PM

    Hi,
There are lot of dependencies between setup data that you are trying to load. Operating Unit depends on Accounting Setup which in turn depends on setups like Calendar, Currencies and Chart of Accounts. So, you have to make sure that you have loaded all prerequisite data before loading operating unit.
    Thanks

This error occurs only if we set a new OU.

  • Same Org as Business Group and Operating Unit cannot be migrated via isetup

    Hi,
I have tried to migrate the setup of an organization which is classified as both Business group and Operating unit.

I request the iSetup Team to clarify whether there is any restriction in iSetup that the same org as BG and OU cannot be transferred.
If yes, then how to migrate the same...
The above situation happens for the org classified as OU and IO. In this case the INV org API give the warning message.

  • Assign Operating Unit

    Hi,
    We need help;
We define a new Accounting Rules in Account Receivable by following steps:
Receivables: Setup >Transactions >Accounting Rules > In Form enter Name, Description, Type. But when you enter a Period, a message appears is "This Period does not exist".
But when we go to profile options and change MO: Operating Unit to “Standard Operating Unit” like "Vision Services", we can define a new Accounting Rules without any issue. But when we keep the MO: Operating Unit as that we define in system we can't define a new Accounting Rules.
Note: We run "Multi-Org Setup Validation Report" to make sure that find Operating Unit as that we define in system we can't find it in report.

  • FUTURE VERSIONS Legal Entity / Cross Operating Unit Direction

    Hello,
I am aware that the Multi-Org Team is in the process of redesigning MO to allow a lot more Cross-Operating Unit (built into Legal Entity?) functionality over the next 18 months to allow users to work in a responsibility but across Operating Units. e.g. allow cross-Operating Unit Receipts in AR.
Is there a Statement of Direction for new MO work or some initial analysis I could get hold of that would assist us in planning our roadmap for the next few years? Dates are less important than direction / functionality of what will be available. I'm aware this may not be available for public distribution but we'll truly appreciate all help.
We are one of the larger European sites, currently running 57 books on R11i single-instance (GL, AP, AR, FA, PO, SSP5). We have upgraded to 11i and EFCed last year. We are now in the process of strategic planning for a complete restructure of our Financials system to match a new legal and operating structure. We are looking ahead 2-3 years down the track here.
If there's someone in Oracle (or elsewhere) I can speak to get this information, I know SAS will be quite happy to do this - also we are quite aware that the information implies no commitments from Oracle.

Shaan- the Org Hierarchy is where I can't see the connection: Legal Entities in the org hierarchy are HR organizations, but Legal Entities used in Intercompany Billing setup (e.g. Provider/Receiver Controls page) are GL Legal Entities setup in Accounting Setup Manager. • Change the Operating Unit and GL set of books on a responsiblity

    Hi Every one
few of the responsibilities which were configured have a either a wrong of set of books or a wrong operating unit
For example a responsibilty which was suppose to have US Set of Books and US operating Unit has MX Set of Books and US Operating Unit
though in Multi Org setup MX set of Books is associated to MX operating Unit. Also vice versa happened on other responsibilities for example right set of books but wrong operating unit.
My question what is the impact of changing GL Set of Books, MO Profile Value to right one? we already have one year transactions on these responsibilities which are related Oracle Cost Management and Oracle inventory.
    Thanks in advance.

I am running into similar question - I am on R12 and am back tracking some origional set up issues
I want to change a opearing unit to report to a different GL ,I vcan change it in HR Organization profiles however If i post an entry via AP to GL it shows up in the (old ) GL
Is there a process i can run to update ?

  • Is operating unit mandatory for creating an inventory org?

    hi folks,
on the Define Organization form within Inventory > Setup > Organizations, when we start creating an organization and designate it to be of classification Inventory, on the subsequent Accounting Information form, is it imperative to provide an Operating Unit value?
the field itself is not required, but since time immemorial, i have always seen it being populated. now, i am being asked a question as to whether this is required, more so since the form field does not force you to fill it.
what are the benefits and / or shortcomings of either associating or not associating an Operating Unit to an Inventory Organization?
    thanks and regards.

    Hi PS,
In that case why Oracle has not made that field(Operating Unit) as Mandatory as this is the only way that identifies to which OU that Inv org is attached.
    Thanks,

  • Import Purchase Requisitions from one Operating Unit to a different Operati

The need is to import Purchase Requisitions from one Operating Unit to a different Operating Unit.
There are 2 operating unit with one inventory orgs in each. But the 1st is OU( It is a club) merely creates Purchase Requisition, and its not a advisable process to have a separate Purchasing process in that OU as it is too small ( but for financial reasons it has to be defined as a separate OU). So we want the Purchase Requisitions created in the 1st OU to be imported in the 2nd OU. Is there any way we can achieve this. Note: Since Order Management is not implemented we cant use the Internal customer setup and we wont like the PO to be created in the 1st OU as we do in standard Intercompany invoicing process.
    Any solutions/Pointers/workaround for this.
    Regards,
    Manoj

As long as you have the same master org in the 2 operating units, all you have to do is
    INSERT INTO mtl_system_items_interface
                (organization_code, segment1, transaction_type, set_process_id, process_flag)
       (SELECT '&new_Org', msi.segment1, 'CREATE', 100, 1
          FROM mtl_system_items_b msi
WHERE organization_id = &old)And run the Import Items request.

  • MO Operating Unit Profile Option Needed for Mass Allocation in R12

Mass Allocation does not work in R12 unless you set MO Operating Unit profile option at GL Responsibility level. Is that an official requirement from Oracle or is that a bug? A client should be able to implement and use GL without setting operating units as they are needed for subledgers.

    Hi
I have found the below mentioned information on MO: operating Unit Profile option from the Oracle E-Business Suite Multiple Organizations & Oracle General Ledger Reference Guide which directly or indirectly requires the setting of the profile option at the appropriate level (responsibility, site etc)
Profile Options not Owned by General Ledger:
The following profile option affects the operation of General Ledger, but is not "owned" by General Ledger:
    • MO: Operating Unit - This profile option controls which operating unit a particular responsibility is assigned to.
Note: General Ledger's Account Inquiry window ignores the setting of this profile option. This allows you to drill down to your subledgers independent from their multiple organization setup. As a result, when you drill down to subledger details, General Ledger will show you all of the transactions that comprise an account balance, regardless of which organization originated the transaction.
To use multiple organizations, you must define an accounting setup with at least one legal entity, a primary ledger that will record the accounting for the legal entity, and an operating unit that is assigned to the primary ledger and a default legal context (legal entity).
You must set either the MO: Operating Unit or MO: Security Profile profile option for each application responsibility to use Multiple Organizations context sensitive applications. When you connect to the Oracle Applications, you sign on by entering your user name and password. Then, you choose a responsibility that is available to your user. After you choose your responsibility, there is an initialization routine that reads the values for all profile options assigned to that responsibility. Oracle Applications allows you to see only the information for those operating units that are assigned to your responsibility.
    Hope this helps.

  • Enter single receipt to multiple legal entities / operating units

    Dear All,
My customer having a business requirement where customer is clubbing the payment for two separate organizations and sending them as one check (single receipt). However they are entering separate invoices for each organization. That mean they do not clubbing invoices in multiple organization but they are accepting checks for both organization and issuing one receipt to the customer. How can i handle this scenario in oracle EBS R12. Is it possible for me to handle this through inter company functionality in oracle.
Organization set up :These two companies have have separate ledgers , legal entities under same business unit.

    Hi Vikash
Legal Entity can have many establishments, like warehouse, showrooms, distribution hub spread across a country.
Each Establishment may be in different states/counties with the same federal country.
So in case of India, it can be in Arunachal Pradesh, Gujrat and Karnataka.
Each of them may be subject to Municpal tax or local State taxes.
Oracle would need to identify that operating units/ inventory organization doing transactions is associated with which Establishement ( under this legal entity ).
And it will calculate the local and state taxes accordingly.
In nutshell this setup is for tax. So go by what Tarun has said.
    Thanks
