Secure Copy and Paste in Sandboxed mode
Hi,
while working on copy-and-paste of mathematical formulae for our ActivMath learning environment, a web-based one, I, of course, chopped to the problem that sandboxes (be them in Java applets, JNLP, JavaScript, Flash, ...) refuse the access to the clipboard.
That's partially survivable thanks to drag-and-drop...
I realized, however, that the class TransferHandler could be easily adapted to allow a secure copy and paste that would not touch, itself, the system-clipboard hence, should be allowed to sandboxes:
- a copy action can be requested using standard gestures. In a browser, this includes the browser's copy menu-item and related shortcut. In many native components, the shortcut is actually working. Such an action would then trigger trusted code and invoke the handler's createTransferable method and put it into the clipboard.
- similarly a paste action can be requested using standard gestures and invoke the importData method.
Can anyone tell me how insecure that would be ?

Trying to change security preferences so i can use Copy and paste

Use keyboard shortcuts if the buttons on the web page or other methods aren't working.

Can no longer copy and paste with new version. Articles you provided did not help.
When I try to copy and paste in firefox it says I can't do it any longer. It's a security issue, and the "learn more" tab gives some abstruse directions about completely closing firefox, and then getting back in without opening it to a place I can't find.
Could you please tell me how to re-enable these necessary functions in an understandable way?Is this only on one website? some websites disable copy and pasting for various reasons.
If this happens on every website, have you tried to start Firefox up in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]? It may be an extension causing the problem.
Also, go ahead and update to Firefox 11, since it does have several bug fixes (I don't recall anything related to copy and paste, but give it a go [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com] )

Copy and Paste Keyboard Shortcut not working
My copy and paste (Command C) function is not working. Tried to resent in keyboard menu, but it didn't do anything. VERY FRUSTRATING as I use this function all day long in my job. Can somebody help please?
The 'input menu' would put a small flag on the main menu bar and allow
you to click there, and see Keyboard Viewer, and Character Palette. A
small keyboard will appear on the desktop and mirror all keys you use
on the real keyboard. Or not. When they don't work in the Viewer, you
can safely assume they don't work. (Or it is software, vs hardware.)
Someday, when you have time and perhaps some extra hardware, you
may consider making a backup clone of your computer contents on a
large enough external hard disk drive to support bootable OS X clones;
and also large enough to have more than one partition there, for extras.
Then, do a completely new installation on a 'secure erased' hard disk drive.
And then update it. You could migrate previous user setting info, into the
new installation from an external drive's clone; or if you have extra discover
time, you may find a cure to the underlying problem's cause and use the
clone in the external hard disk drive as a backup. Maybe DiskWarrior?
The problem in the system may be due to at least one possible malady; a
corruption of system data, a bad block on the hard disk drive, or some other
matter that somehow became bigger than life when combined with another.
You may try the SafeBoot mode, repair disk permisions in Disk Utility, and
then try reinstalling the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo update file, on top of it all.
Then when it restarts, run SafeBoot again and re-repair disk permissions.
(But any actual hard disk drive issue may exist and remain unattended.)
Odd problems often are best attacked at a root level, after you have adequate
backup; a bootable clone on supported self-powered external hard disk drive.
Clone utilities such as SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner are fine tools;
and CCC (bombich software) has evolved to be top-notch with site support.
Glad you were able to remap some keys; I found several links in a search on
how to do that, and had previously posted some URLs to help someone else
on another user forum that covered some angles of resolving keyboard issues.

How do I copy and paste text in a PDF?
I'm new to this Adobe Acrobat stuff, and I'm wondering what I have to do, to able to just copy and paste from a PDF to any old regular document.

Provided that the PDF isn't secured, or protected, you can simply drag your cursor over the text that you want to copy and choose Edit > Copy to copy the text to the clipboard. Then, you can switch to whatever application you want to paste into and choose Edit > Paste.
You may not be able to select the text if the document has been secured by its creator. You can tell by looking for "Secured" in the title bar of the PDF.

my pictures from my i phone 4s wont import from auto play. a message keeps coming up saying there is an error and a device is not working properly. also i have tried going into the internal storage to copy and paste them but that wont work either. the page either stops responding or the picture simply dont copy. does any1 have any idea why this is happening. it has never happened before and only seems to be happening since i started using i cloud storage instead of synching my phone with the lap top.
I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.

How do you copy and paste automation?
Is there a way to copy and paste automation in logic instead of redrawing the same automation later in the song I asked the same question a few weeks ago and some one replied to go to automation preferences and change the setting move automation with regions to always or ask I did this but this simply just moves the automation with the region if you drag it from its original place I want to copy and paste the region and the have the automation with it hope someone knows what I'm on about cheers
p.s does any know if there is a key board command to turn the cycle mode on/off I looked in the key command preferences but could not find itHold down the option key, then drag the region. This will copy the regions AND the automation (as long as you have automation preferences set to move the automation with the region).
Also, there is a hidden feature in Logic, that used to be called the automation folder. t was accessible via a key command in Logic 6, and then they removed that key command in version 7. Why they hid this is beyond me, as it is a very useful thing.
But if you go to your key commands and assign a key command to "Automation Event List", this will open an Event List window showing you the songs automation. Now with that List Window open, hit Apple/1. This opens a new Arrange page, but you'll notice that this new arrange page is showing you all the songs automation data, represented as regions.
From this page, you can then cut and move your automation just like you do audio and MIDI regions. -
CS4 problems copying and pasting masked items
The problem: Copying and pasting a placed image combined with other Illustrator art with multiple gausian blurs that have been masked/grouped. Placed image type does not matter. PDF, JPG, TIFF, etc placed in Illustrator CS4 (or 3). Some images are complex and others are not.
What happens: After copying and pasting, the masked (grouped) image breaks apart into separate components that are no longer masked/grouped. Happens with different files with different images on different computers. WIth or without text in document. Sometimes image pastes correctly but most times it does not.
Hardware/OS: 3 separate iMacs (20" and two 23") all with intel chips but different processing speeds. All running latest and most updated version of Leopard. All with 4 MB Ram and more than a 100 GB of free hard drive space.
Software: Illustrator CS4 (latest update) and CS3 on one of the 23" iMacs.
Solutions tried so far: Ran Onyx, repaired permissions, scripts, cleaned caches, zapped PRAM and on one iMac, ran Disk Warrior. Tried in Safe boot mode and tired with a new user account. Created new files with new images and tried old files. Tried opening files from the server and from the desktop. Threw out illustrator prefs and emptied trash.
Thought it may have to do with font conflicts but some files don't have fonts. Turned off font management programs (Suitcase on one iMac, Font Explorer Pro on others, all updated to latest version) and restarted so only system fonts loaded. No luck. Turned on fonts used in various documents, still no luck.
Thought it may have to do with memory issues after copying masked items. Sometimes the copied image would paste correctly and then the next time I pasted it, it would not. Before pasting a second time I would copy a small item (to clear the memory) and then paste it and then recopy the masked item and paste that. Still no luck.
Checked activity monitor but nothing looks to be a memory hog or out of place. Happens on all three iMacs and while the OS and Illustrator are common to all three, Fonts and font management tools are not. No weird plug-ins or third party extensions installed. Plus it happened in safe boot mode so all extraneous fonts and such should have been deactivated.
Curiously, if I drag copy the masked item using the option key, the masked item copies fine. I know this can be used as a work-around but I would like to resolve this as sometimes the designers need/want to use command-c/command-v.
Not sure what else to try. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you.This might work, this might not. I have copy paste problems
on a regular basis and all that works for me is closing Captivate
down and then re open and continue. At worst, a reboot tends to
solve this glitch in my experience.

Copy and paste graphics and text in Acrobat 9 Pro
I'm a new user of Acrobat Pro and am trying to copy a combination of text and graphics from the top half of a page to the blank bottom half of the page. I've not had much success with what I thought would be a simple thing to do and would welcome suggestions. Here's a summary of the options I've tried so far for graphics, text, and both text and graphics.
A. Graphic Alone:
1. When I use the Select Object Tool, I can highlight the graphic but when I unclick the left mouse button, the highlighting disappears, so I can't copy the graphic.
2. When I use theTouchup Object Tool, only an oblong portion of the graphic is highlighted when I click on the object. The only way to highlight all of the graphic is to hold down the shift key and click on successive portions of the graphic until I have highlighted all of it. When I then right-click the mouse, I can copy the graphic. However, when I then place the mouse cursor in the bottom half of the page and do a righ-click paste, the graphic appears to be pasted on top of the original graphic. I can then drag the graphic to the bottom half of the page. I can also paste the object on to a blank page from Create PDF>Blank Page. Overall, this is not elegant nor intuitive, but it does work.
B. Text Alone:
1. I can copy the text but when it is pasted, it is not formatted like the orginal, nor can I place it where I want on the bottom half of the page. This is true whenther I use the basic copy function or the Touchup Text Tool.
2. When I use the Touchup Object Tool and click on the text, Acrobat places similarly-formatted text in a box that I can then right-click and copy. I can then paste the text on a blank page with the text formatted identical to the way it was on the original page. With several blocks of text formatted differently, this procedure could work but would require a lot of work to create a format with placement identical to the original.
C. Text and Graphics Together
1. When I use the Touchup Object Tool and attempt to highlight the top half of the page, the Tool insists on including the blank bottom half of the page in its selection. I can copy everything on the page but I haven't found a way to select just the objects in the top half of the page -- I can copy some, but the selected objects aren't highlighted and so this isn't a satisfactory route. It seems obvious to me that Touchup Object should be able to select just the objects I want. But then, even the Select Object Tool doesn't do that, either -- it Selects an object but then you can't do anything with the object.
2. Using the snapshot tool, I can highlight both graphics and text and copy them -- I can even export them them to another program via the clipboard and create an external file. However -- regardless of whether I just copy and paste, or do a Touchup Object file import, or whether the file is bitmap or jpg -- when I paste the resulting object or file onto a page in Acrobat, the image always comes out at 200% of its orginal size. I looked for a Resize option, but couldn't find one.
This is all very time-consuming and frustrating since what I am trying to do is not rocket science. Surely there is a simple way to do this.
By the way, there are no security restrictions on the file.

In response to both "...is that normal?" — Yes.
PDF is not a file format meant to support editing of layout/format/etc or text content creation.
You'd master content in an authoring application (FrameMaker, InDesign, MS Word, etc.).
The PDF file is the output of this mastered content.
Some minor touchups are possible with Acrobat (think whiteout/correction tape on a printed piece of paper -- PDF page content is the electronic "finished paper").
With that said, you might play with File > Create PDF > From Blank Page and use the Typewriter tool to enter text.
To output MS Word content to PDF use the Adobe PDFMaker.
Prior to Word 2007, you'd use "Adobe PDF" on the menu line.
With Word 2007, you'd use the Acrobat Ribbon features.

I cannot open a .pdf in an incoming mail (Outlook 2010) with Acrobat Pro XI. It will only allow "preview". I have to copy and paste the .pdf to my desktop and then open it. I have seen this issue occur with users who have this registry setting missing or have improper permissions.
When you double click the attachment to launch the pdf it is saved and opened from the temporary folder unless saved specifically to a location.
If you dont have the below mentioned registry key or improper permissions then attachments fail to open.
Please heck if the following reg key exists:

Captivate 6 - Cannot copy and paste to different slides
Hello,
I have recently spent some time creating an Captivate template to use for my company' s eLearnings. I noticed when I created a project from this template, I am not able to copy and paste objects (eg buttons) from one slide to the next in the new cptx file.
As a test, I created a simple dummy template, and then created a project from this dummy template, and I have the same problem.
Within the dummy template, I can copy and paste objects to a new slide, but within my company's template, I cannot.
Note: the pasted object doesnt show up on the stage nor the timeline.Thanks. Yea, I think I incorrectly used the template. I inserted a number of text captions (not place-holders) into my template, and these annoyingly essentially became master slides within my .cptx project - in other words, any inserted slide in the new .cptx project placed after one of these "template" slides inherted the text captions from the "template" slide, and I couldn't delete these text captions. I essentially had to delete the "template" slide and rebuild it within the .cptx project. What is even weirder, is the inherted, un-wanted text captions did not appear during playback or in the film-strip, but only were visible on stage in "editing" mode.

I cannot copy and paste from email to word processor in microsoft 7, not Office
why can I not copy and paste from Yahoo email into Microsoft 7 word processor. I don't have Office. I used to do this all the time using Control C to copy and Control V to paste but recently AT&T installed Firefox and I think that's when the trouble started
There are a range of different kinds of forms. For example, this site uses very simple controls that don't automatically convert Word's formatting to an online format. The site where you are trying to paste your resume probably works differently.
What methods have you tried using to paste? Typically one of these will work:
* Ctrl+v
* right-click > Paste
* Edit > Paste (from the menu)
Some sites offer their own buttons to paste, but for security/privacy reasons, Firefox usually disables those. -

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
