Self-service Kiosk Development

Hello everybody,
Not really sure if this is the right forum to post my question, if it's not please tell me.
Our company is intended to implement some self-service kiosks to place orders, verify prices, show advertisements and even charge to credit cards. The Front-end will run on a Motorola Kiosk (MK4000) or similar device, and SAP ECC 6.0 will be our Back-end.
By requirement the Front-end must be extremely user friendly including touch-screen, video and audio reproduction capabilities, easy navigation and of course a good performance.
My question is, considering all these requirements what technology would you choose to implement the Front-end? A web-based or a standalone application? In case of choose a standalone application what programming language would you choose C++, Java or .NET? In case of choose a web-based application what would you choose Java Web Dynpros or J2EE Applications? (We already use Web Dynpros for our internal Portal however I am afraid that it won´t give us the flexibility required).
In case of pick up a Non-Sap technology what would you choose to communicate to the Back-end: Web services or RFCs?
I know It's hard to answer without the whole picture, however I just wondering what is the general perspective of the community and to know if there are SAP Best Practices to implement a project like this.

Not able to launch Self Service Application thru JDeveloper

We have been able to install and configure the JDeveloper and Self Service application, but not able to launch the application because of the error message below. We have followed the steps mentioned in the attached Quick Installation guide. We tried the solution available on the metalink for the error message" Unable to Load Template mappings...etc... ", but still not able to proceed.

Passing parameters dynamically from Self Service Page

We are having Issue in passing parameters dynamically for Self Service Page. We are in the process of doing research on the same which is taking time. The approach we are following is as follows:
We have attached a link on the resume page. The link is in the form of a button. On the click of button the report is displayed. The steps are as given below:
1. Log in through the Application Developer Responsibility.
2. Created a SSWA plsql type function CD_TEST_SS with parameters as report=TESTING_PDF&PARAMETERS=P_PERSON_ID~617*DESFORMAT~PDF*]] and HTML call as OracleOASIS.RunReport.
3. Enable the profile option Personalize Self-Service Defn to Y.
4. Log in through the Manager Self Service Responsibility.
5. Create an item of type button Test using personalization feature and attach the function CD_TEST_SS to the Resume page.
6. The button Test appears on the form.
7. On clicking the Test button the 6i report is called. The rdf file is place on the server in appl/au/11.5.0/reports/US directory. The rdf name is TESTING_PDF.rdf.
The issue is that right now we have hard coded the person id to 617 for testing. We need to pass the parameters at runtime. i.e. the person id of the employee selected should be passed dynamically. Please let us know if you have any idea about this.

XML Bursting and attaching PDF file to self service page

We have developed custom report and implemented XML Bursting Program(not intended to send e-mails). If the output of the concurrent program is producing 100 output files, say 100 pdf HR letters, we need to attach each letters to individual employee HR records(Manager Self service page).
How can we implement a solutions for the above requirement.

So, the after closing my own WD-Component the products have been added to the basket & the basket can be properly saved.
But pushing the Next-Step-Button or Previous-Step-Button provided by the GAF framework makes the shopping basket "empty" and the Previous/Next navigation doesn't react anymore.
What is the correct approach? Documentation?

Online Help for Oracle HRMS Self Service System

I am looking into developing context-sensitive online help for an Oracle HRMS Self Service application. There is currently no online help for the application; all help is provided in printed and online docs, so users are having trouble navigating to the info they need. Help is needed! My initial questions are:
Would I need to create OHJ or OHW?
Could I use RoboHelp to develop the content?
Is there a reference document you can point me to?

Hi Belinda,
You would create Oracle Help, and then deploy it using OHJ or OHW.
The format of the help is the same. There is nothing specific that needs to be done for one or the other. If your system i s a Web application, you would use OHW and otherwise, you would use OHJ.

Personally, I would not recommend RoboHelp to create Oracle Help. RoboHelp has a lot of nice features, but the Oracle Help output feature is fairly buggy, especially if you are creating a large helpset, or a helpset that has subhelpsets.
At Oracle, a lot of help development is done using DreamWeaver and an in-house build tool, called the Oracle Help Build Tool. This is available for free. Send me a mail ([email protected]) if you want a copy.

Qualification Information updated in PUI not reflected in Self Service

Hi there,
I noticed that when I update my qualification information via sefl service, after HR approval, this information is reflected in the Qualification forms in the PUI.
However, if I update my qualification via PUI, this information is not reflected in my self service page.
Im currently lost as to tracking why is this happening. Im not even able to locate the tables these information are written into.
Any clue would be great!

You also might want to try myDataProvider.refresh(), where myDataProvider is the data provider for the DataGrid. Make sure you are using a collection like ArrayCollection or XMLListCollection and you are using the [Bindable] metadata tag.

Improving Student Self Service with jQuery/lightbox?

We're looking for ways to improve the student self service experience via the enterprise portal. There are a couple ways we've seen to do this, either creating a new peoplesoft page that displays the desired data and linking to the Campus Solutions pages, or creating a web page and populating the data via web services. It seems both approaches can benefit from the use of javascript technology like lightboxes. Has anyone tried to load the Campus Solutions Student Center or its subpages in a lightbox? Are there other approaches out there?
I'm not a skilled web developer, I'm still learning, so sifting through all the information and choosing a direction is difficult. I've seen strong recommendations for jQuery. However, there are other libraries as well as many lightbox plugins, some actively maintained, some not. For those of you with more experience, is there a "best" library/lightbox for this type of application?

Please debug this method mentioned and check if the container is filled with data. Maybe you will find your issue here (in restrictions for calling the wf?).

I am new to Siebel and Self Service. I just want to know If I can deploy Sieble Self Service Application on JBoss or on any other OpenSource Application Server. My client do want not to buy Oracle Application Server. Any help on this would be higly appriciated.
I have another question: How can I develop my own portlet and integrate into Siebel Self Service. Do we have any APIs or specification or any information so that I can start wrting my portlets for Siebel Self Service.

As far as supported platform is asked, you shoud refer to the latest version of the Siebel System Requirements and Supported Platforms for Self-Service Applications aka SRSP .Here is the section http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11886_01/V8/CORE/SRSP_811_SSA/SRSP_81_Supported_Plats7.html#wp1018023 and the only supported platform seems Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.3.
Not sure if the server is not part of the overall licence package, worth checking with your Sales Rep.

ISE Self Service Portal Customisation.

I have been hacking around with the Self Service portal on the ISE. I have it working nearly as I wish it too, having edited self_registration.html to my satisfaction.
The issue is, I get details in the OUPUT of the self_registration_result.html screen pop that I do not wish to display. The screen outputs all the details previously input, even though I only want to show the username and password. The contents of self_registration_result.html do not even reference the other variables. Specifically, I wish to exclude the email address.
See below. No mention of the outputting of the email address.

Self registered guest sponsor approval flow
ISE 1.2 - needs some customization and coding to make the user process nicer
Custom self registration page:
Use the first and last name to create the account as the email address will be that of the sponsor
Use one of the optional fields (titled as email address of the requester)
Normal email address required would be that of the sponsor (person receiving the email with creds to forward along),
The success page would state that the credentials are being sent to the sponsor and once approved will receive via email back from them.
Its self registration with approval and the flow is through email (no status page on sponsor portal)
Make sure restrict the email domain that can be entered to that of the company only (otherwise there is a break down as guest can put their own). See this guide entry.
Additionally, you can modify the email template to send the correct data to employees:
Dear Sponsor,
A guest with email address $OPTION1$ requested an account
If you authorize this request, username is $USERNAME$ and password is $PASSWORD$
Risk is the sponsor knows the credentials of their approved guest

Here is the flow that was done for a turkish bank with partner middleware - Ozgur Guler (ozgguler) SE
1) Guest connects to guestWLAN and opens a browser. He is redirected to ISE guest portal.
2)      When he clicks “Self registration” , he goes to a middleware’s web service that is just looking like ISE portal. Our partner NetSec developed this middleware.
3)      He enters his name,surname, year of birth,national ID number, mobile number, sponsor’s mail, etc.
4)      The middleware firstly checks the validity of the guest from a government web service. It checks name, surname, year of birth and ID number validity.
5)      If they are valid, the middleware sends an email to sponsor to get an approval.
6)      If sponsor clicks the link in mail, it is approved and middleware creates a username on ISE using our current API (they will shift to Guest API when it is available)
7)      After creating the user, the middleware sends a command to SMS gateway to send credentials to the guest.
8)      Guest logins.

Custom FPM Application: application variant and self services config in PCD

Hello,
I've created a webdynpro based on FPM framework and created a FPM Application using the Self-Services administrator too.
My question is, how do I get the application variant so that I can create an iview out of this custom fpm application?
For example, the perspective of my FPM application has the custom wd FPM View and I'd like to add more fpm views to it.
If I want to create a page for this FPM app, I need to be able to "see" these added FPM views as application variants while creating the iviews and page.
For all the delivered SAP components/dcs there already present the FPM Applications in the PCD.
How about custom developed FPM apps?

I am trying to customise the existing pages in internet expense module in oracle applications 11.5.9. I have taken an approach to use AK developer and Self Service Web Application Manager.
I have created a new web inquiiry using these two. But unable to modify the existing pages. Unable to decipher the existing flow of pages - regions and how the attributes are laid out.
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3 with E-Business Suite Self Service

Hi,
I am looking to create some extra JSP pages to add extra functionality to the Oracle E-Business Suite Self Service Pages (10g database). I have been told that it is not possible to do this with JDeveloper 10.1.3 and that we will need to use JDeveloper 9 with patches.
Is this correct? or can I use JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 to develop new pages to add onto Manager and Employee Self Service pages?

I have been directed to metalink note 416708.1, and I think I will need to downlaod JDEV9, but when I go to the JDeveloper download site on OTN it only lets me downlaod versions 10.1.3 and 10.1.2, where can I download this from?

Well, if you really meant modification by saying "customization" (European semantics) - then, there is no special Enhancement guide as it is available for E-Sales, but the concepts are pretty much same (at 10,000 foot level).
