Sent Touch in for repair...they're sending it back...are my files gone?

Hello all,
I just sent my iPod Touch 3G (64gb) to Apple for repair. I recently got the following email...
Thank you for choosing AppleCare Service.
Our technicians have performed full diagnostic checks on your IPOD TOUCH (3RD GENERATION) and have been unable to reproduce the symptom(s) you reported when you requested service. As a result of our tests, we can confirm that your product meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality.
As part of our assessment and test procedures, your product has had the latest software and firmware updates installed. It is now being returned to you, and you should expect to receive it within two business days along with a letter that provides details about our assessment.
Does this mean that they've wiped my iPod when they put the new software in? Or will all my music/videos still be there?
Thanks for your help.

The apps, music and videos should all be there. And if they aren't, your iTunes on the computer which you sync your iPod with has all the back-up of your files. So no worries!

  • Sent mac in for repair, instead they replaced. Lost my iTunes Library any way to move my library over with out having the other mac? (or backed up files?)

Help- my big screen MAC had damage so we sent it in under warrenty. well they replaced the mac with a newer model and of course we didn't think that would happen so we didn't back it up.. Now I'm trying to re-sync all of our devices. I can't seem to transfer purchases and I can't load my music from my ipod, ipad or iphone. Or my husbands devices-
Is there anyway to change my library from the MAC that is gone to my new MAC? (with out any back ups?)

You can look at PhoneView from www.ecamm.com - that will allow you to transfer from the device back to the Mac.
You can retrieve any iTS purchases by logging into your iTunes account on the new Mac.
You are responsible to b/u your data. When you sent your Mac for repairs there is likley a reminder in the paperwork that you are responsible for the b/u as you can never know what is going to happen during repairs.
As for the other data - you are out of luck unless you can get Apple to return the original drive to you.

  • I recently downloaded a series of instructional videos.  They are in mp4 format and rather large (~500MB on average).  When I try and open them with Quicktime (default) they will not play.  Are there file size restrictions?  Any suggestions would be great

I recently downloaded a series of instructional videos.  They are in mp4 format and rather large (~500MB on average).  When I try and open them with Quicktime (default) they will not play.  Are there file size restrictions?  I have gone through all of the most recent software updates.  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks.

Try VLC Media Player.  It has a reputation for playing just about anything you throw at it.

  • TS4036 I recently had to send my iphone off for repair and when it came back they had restored it t factory settings. Is there any way I can get my music and photos back from icloud ??

I recently had to send my iphone off for repair and when I have got it back it has been reset to factory settings. Can I get my phonos, music etc back through icoulds ?

If your backup is incomplete you won't be able to use it.  Do you have any backups on your computer?  (You can check by opening iTunes and going to iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Edit>Preferences>Devices on a PC).  That will list any available backups on your computer.

  • Sent X60s in for repair, have doubts...

Hello all, I signed up here to ask this question. First, I will give background information.
I've had this X60s for almost three years now, and up until last Saturday it worked fine. It is a Core Duo (not Core 2) model that came with 1GB of RAM. Since I leave the more intensive tasks like gaming to a desktop, I was hoping to use this machine for at least another two years, and when I bought the Thinkpad brand, I had every confidence it could do so. On Saturday, I packed the laptop into my bookbag with a few other things and travelled with it for about an hour, something that I do often. Upon removing the laptop from my backpack, I noticed it would not turn on, and none of the indicator lights would turn on, despite having battery pack, AC adapter, or both attached. I was quite certain that the power-button trick would work, however, it did not. There was no external physical damage to the laptop, and reseating the memory didn't help either. I was getting ready to take it apart until I called Lenovo and found out I was still under warranty. At the time I assumed that the depot technicians probably have far more experience dealing with Thinkpad laptop issues than I do, so I decided to send it in for depot repair.
Lenovo sent me a return box, which arrived on Tuesday. I arranged a pickup same day. The box arrived at the EasyServ center in Memphis, TN, on Wednesday morning, 9AM. On Wednesday evening, the status changed from "Being repaired" to "Hold for customer information." I found out about this the next day at work, so I thought it odd that they didn't bother to call me if they needed information from me. On Thursday, I called them, and the rep told me it wasn't a "customer information" hold, but instead an "engineering hold," which, from his explanation, roughly meant that whoever's working on it now has no idea how to fix the problem, and they need to ask better people.
I said fine, and didn't have an opportunity to check the status until now. To my surprise, it was on "Being repaired" status for a whole of three minutes on Thursday before it went back to "Hold for customer information." Again, I didn't receive a call actually asking me for information, so I'm assuming that this is again an "engineering hold."  There's no way for me to find out for sure since the depot is on holiday today, and the non-depot reps have no idea what's going on in the depot. It is very discouraging to discover that my machine spent only three minutes of an entire business day possibly being reparied, and the rest "on hold" for mysterious reasons.
I realize that the depot promises a turn-around time of 5-7 business days and I am still short of that time, but I have read horror stories of laptops being returned still broken, or with even more problems than it started out with. On the other hand, a few of my closer friends also own Thinkpads, and their experience with depot repair have been quite good: 1 day turnarounds in some cases. However, an important distinction is that all of their problems have already been identified by the user before sending it in, i.e., need new LCD/keyboard/battery, etc, and were not nearly as blanket as "it won't turn on."
It goes without saying that I would like to have my laptop back in working order as soon as humanly possible: I am away from home and most everything I own for 3 months due to work, and hence it is my only computer (talk about a great time to break down): I am now actually accessing the internet from a local library, where I can do nothing but browse the internet. So my question is, for those who have sent their laptop in for problems like this, where the issue is not user-diagnosed, what was your experience? Can I expect the technicians at the service depot to be competent enough to actually fix this problem, or will I endure an endless cycle of "holds for customer information" and, in the longer run, "send it back in"? My (pre-2007 purchase) warranty states that the machine can either be repaired, replaced with a "functionaly equivalent" one (at Lenovo's discretion), or if both are impossible, returned for money from where I purchased it. Who is the judge of the possibility of repair?
Thank you for reading. Any advice is appreciated.

most likely they don't have the parts in stock, so they will have to ship it in from somewhere else, this could take couple of days to couple of weeks, depending on the availability of parts and where it is shipping from. But if they don't return it to you within two weeks, you could ask the Lenovo whether a loan laptop can be offered till the broken laptop is repaired. You have to call Lenovo to discuss the available options.
I have a X60s and X60, both works great, the X60 is from cousins whom pretty much shattered the magnesium chassis, when he accidentally threw against the brickwall... it is still ticking along fine, apart from the cosmetic damage.

  • Sent laptop in for repair, the address given was WRONG!

I sent my laptop in for repair the begining of February. When I recieved the box to ship my laptop off it came with instructions on packaging and shipping procedures. The address I was given to sen my laptop said is it an HP Repair Center and has been recieved at this address and sign for per tracking number, Hp says they have not recieved it, because it is not at the right location. I call every 24-48 hours as directed for a solution to this problem as I am told.
I always wanted an hp laptop. Never could afford one and received this as a christmas present. I am so upset about this and Im getting very frustrated! I did exactly as the instructions said and sent it where is said to be sent and no one is helping with this issue. I still have the instruction paper that states the address but keep getting told it is not a repair center and that it is the wrong address.
I was told over and over not to send it in for repair because there are always issues with something happening to peoples products, but I took the chance anyways. I really wish I didn't now!!!
WHAT DO I DO??? PLEASE HELP!!!

    @meljohnston ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

  • I sent my iphone for repair. before I sent it I did a backup (on the 7th of august). no i got my phone back but in iTunes I only see a backup from 21st of july. How can I access my latest back up?

I sent my iPhone to Apple for repair. Before I sent it I did a backup (on the 7th of August). Today I got it back, but my iTunes only shows me a backup from 21st july and from today. How can I access my  backup from 7th of august?

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Equipment to be sent to contractor for repairs

    PM Gurus;
In a scenario, I want to send equipment for repairs to contractor and also track the maintenance cost on 'maintenance order'.
    I am following the steps;
    1) For every equipment, one non valuated material is created in MM
    2) Maintenance order is created with the Equipment as reference object (so as to get desired reports)
    3) Material is tracked from MM reports, gives me the status of the repair
    4) When maintenance order is released, equipment inactive flag is set manually, so that it gives me warning/ error if I am creating order/ notification
    5) Once the equipment is back, equipment is set with active flag
The above procedure is ok with my client as they don't have much of the equipments going out for repairs. But I think there should be some better way to map this in SAP.
I am thinking of creating a single material in MM for all equipments & track them by material number + serial number, I am also aware that once the serial number is activated, can not be deactivated. But why there is so much of scare to use serial number management? Will this method be helpful?
Can you pls. let me know how do I do it? Pls. let me know step by step.
    Thanks & Regards
    Hemant

This is actually a good mapping u did. Especially given the fact that the number of equipments going out is not much. In the pre SAP era all that used to happen was a returnable gate pass and an entry in the materials clerk's register.
But now with large volumes u can ensure that an appropriate movement type is created for vendor servicing. So in essence if ur outgoing equipments' numbers grow u can think about material code and the serial nos. Till then u can continue with the equipment code deactivation or even a user status instead of deactivation.

  • I have lost iTunes on my phone and sent it in for repair, how do I prevent this in the future?

I needed to reactivate my iTunes on my phone, needed to send in for repair. How can I prevent this in the future?

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

  • I have sent my iPhone for repair, but the case has the wrong description, I have called and talked to Apple Support, and told them the actual case and they told me thats what it was for and my Warranty covered it.. When will I get a new iPhone or mine?

I filed for a case and my One-Year warranty is still available until Jne 2014 , somehow the description in the case is mixed up and says it was cracked or dropped, but the real reason is the Audio goes out on my iPhone 5 after the iOS 7.1 update every 20 minutes and I have to restart it. I talked to apple support and they told me my warranty will cover the audio issue, but it still doesn't say that in the repair description. How can I see that? or will they already know? Apple has told me that they will, but I don't want it to be mixed up and me have to pay for something and it not being my fault.

Besides checking the support status assuming you filed the case with your Apple ID, there is nothing more you can do. Nobody here knows that as nobody here works for Apple. We are users like you. Apple does not monitor this forum. You will have to contact Apple support for the information if you cannot get it the way I described.

  • Kids got iPod Touch's for Xmas, they want facetime, do they all require new apple id's and what is the ramification of that?

So I have iTunes figured out when we as a family, have one master account.  This allows me to regulate app downloads and music buys because they don;t know my Apple ID password.  We all synch to the same Itunes.
Well, this Xmas, they got iPod touches....  They want to use Facetime to talk with their pals.  Facetime tells me that I need new Apple ID's - because if I use my own, well, I can't because we have TWO iPod touches now....   Plus, I don't want kids to think I am trying to contact them when its really my kids.
So the question is this, if I make two new apple ID's (for each device) so they can do FaceTime, do we lose the ability to all synch to my itunes (where all their music downloads are, and paid apps, etc).  Do they have to give that all up just to use FaceTime?  My assumption is multiple apple ID's can't share the same library, but that is way messed up just to utilize one very cool feature.
Ideally, I could make the new apple ID's, but when we synch they could still use my itunes.
I can't be the only parent that has these kind of issues.....
    Thoughts?

    Figured it out. Thanks.

  • TS2391 Took my Mac in for repairs they reset my com I lock it and do not know what they use as the passcode

I took my Mac in to have keyboard replace and the upper and bottom case replace as well. They reset my com and the fool that i'am lock the com. And have no way know what the pass code they use.?

Not sure what "com" is.   If they reset the user password, frequently it's empty.  Leave the field empty and hit enter.  If that doesn't work I'd call and ask what they set it to.
