September 2008 Screenshots

Posting Guidelines
· DO NOT post full resolution screenshots!  You can use the "mogrify" command (pacman -S imagemagick) to make a thumbnail of your screenshot:
$ cp screenie.png thumb-screenie.png
$ mogrify -resize 20% thumb-screenie.png
Twenty percent of the original size is great for 1024x768 screenies.  You can then upload these images to your server and use the following code to show them on the forum:

This displays the thumbnail as a link to the screenie like this:
http://dtw.jiwe.org/share/screenies/thumb-screenie.png
· Several websites also offer free image hosting, of these ImageShack is very popular and does a neat auto thumbnail:
Use the "Thumbnail for forums" link code that is supplied by ImageShack to post your thumbnail link.
· Once the new month begins please do not post new screenies in the old threads.
· If the screenshot has questionable material that might not be safe to view while at work or in a school setting, please post only a link and not a thumbnail, along with a mention of "Not Safe for Work". Posts that do not adhere to this are subject to deletion without notice at any time.
· Please try to include any links to your wallpaper or configs that you may have and/or the names of your icon theme, running apps, DE, etc. in the same post to reduce unnecessary clutter later.

• Upgrading ram - White 2.4ghz Macbook - Bought September 2008

Hey guys,
If i update the ram from 2gb (2x1gb) to 4gb (2x2gb), will I get the full 4gb? I've heard something about Intel chips and not getting the full 4gb?
I bought it just before the new ones came out, in mid september 2008.
Thanks!
Mark

That unit should recognize all 4Gs. In fact, Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.

What's the xmms skin you're using? Like it very much!
It's the 8270 set of winamp skins by Grayhouse @deviantart - link. If you're using xmms, you'll have to unzip the wsz file(s) into the xmms skins directory.
@Abelian: I would be really interested in seeing your StumpWM configs, it looks wicked!

Happy New Year!!
The window manager is a pet project of mine. I wanted to see if I could make a WM in freepascal
It lacks alot of functions, but it is coming along slowly.
The background I made in Gimp. I made a 1280x1024 black image and pasted one of cerise's images from this thread into it.

* As a simple way to include information about your setup in the screenshot, you can use a tool like Archey, screenfetch or screenfo (all in AUR) to print out details about your window manager, font, shell etc., with a very attractive ASCII Arch logo...

I'm like 2 hours early... still 8/31 here.. but what the heck.
Not too much changed about awesome recently... I like my "teal" colour scheme... made a few tweaks to the panel, that's about it...
I did change my terminal colour scheme over to tango though... that's the main change. I changed the wallpaper too... but that's monthly anyway... I get bored of the same wallpaper, honestly.

I just received crystal reports designer XI two copies.
I also have crystal reports server XI but it is installed and running. I just need to get in to get the support site to get my license keys for the install. I have several emails from SAP and I have tried all of the user name and passwords that were sent to me but none of them work.

• IPhone's iCal has events back to 2008, even though not in iCal on computer?

I recently upgraded my iPhone to firmware v3.0, and iTunes to 8.2.
Upon syncing, I noticed that my iPhone has iCal events going back months (and some even to 2008), that are not in the iCal on my computer. My computer doesn't have ANY events prior to today (July 18), yet my iPhone seems to remember some prior events I had on it dating back to September 2008, and many in between. Why this discrepancy and how can I fix it? (and yes, I've checked the "don't sync events more than 1 day old", and opened up the iCal preferences/advanced tab and checked the "Delete events 1 day after they have passed" box, to no avail).
Thanks,
jman995x

No, not even that...just random stuff....Dental Appt on September 28, 2009....Register for school on January 17, 2009, etc., etc.
Mind you, there were many more things on (and in between) those aforementioned dates, but for some reason a few of these random calendar events just won't leave my iPhone. Granted, I could manually delete said events from my iPhone, but that is really tedious and there's like 60 of them.
Any advice as to why random dates are plaguing my iPhone's iCal would be greatly appreciated.

• Oracle Office Hours in Open world 2008 ( Hussein Sawwan and M.Taylor)

Hi Hussein/Taylor,
I watched the following thread that you and Taylor attended for openworld 2008 ( 23rd september 2008).
http://wiki.oracle.com/page/Oracle+ACE+Office+Hours+in+the+OTN+Lounge?t=anon
can you please share here, that any important questions which are tricky that you got in the meeting, if you have attended.
i am eager to know your experience????

Hi Hussein thank you very much.....
i watched this thread before,
http://trioragroup.com/blog/archives/161
i have seen the following lines from the above link,
Next to me were two ACEs who regularly interact on the Oracle Technology
Network (OTN) Forums providing responses to the many questions that are posted.
These two ACE’s had never met in person but through their efforts on the Forums they
had developed a friendship which was evident at the table.
They live in time-zones that are 10 hours apart so they joked about
how they can tag-team the forum, one responding while the other sleeps Immediately, you and taylor and schavali came into my mind, eventhough author did not mention the names....
one more thing, have you tried automatic rapid clone in R12 or 11i,
if yes, can you share your experience??

• So why couldn't they have a 32GB Touch in September last year?

I knew this was coming, and I'm not that mad. I'm only disappointed it came out so early.
I was expecting this like in September 2008.
But I don't understand why couldn't have a 32GB last year.
I mainly listen to music.
So 16 GB is good, But I could've used that extra 3500 songs.

I'm disappointed too being that my return period to Best Buy for my iPod Touch 16GB expired 4 days ago & the 32 gets announced today.
But after thinking about it, I'd rather use the $100 difference towards a 32 GB iPhone once Verizon picks it up (iPhone 2.0).
Then again, I also own a 160 GB Classic which has my whole library whereas the touch has 'My Favorites'.
It's a ploy, just like most of their product releases are.
But that's why we love them

• IPhone complains about email password for non-existent account.

I upgraded from my 1st gen iPhone to a 3Gs the other day.
Now when I try to send email, I get an error stating that "Cannot Send mail.no password provided for "iat""
link to the screenshot.
http://filebin.ca/mukgzm/IMG_0309.jpg
I've not had an "iat" email account on my phone since before September 2008, and even then, it was never set up properly as the mail-server wasn't allowing IMAP connections from outside, so it was deleted before it was working.
My default SMTP server is my own server, on it's own domain (vehentis) and my secondary is my work email server. Nowhere in my mail settings does the word IAT even appear.
Anyone got any ideas?

The account has been completely deleted, yes.
I don't syncronise my email accounts in iTunes, as I have my own IMAP email server and run thunderbird on the macbook. I don't, however, recall seeing any email account settings at all within iTunes.
My email accounts are set to check on a 15 minute basis, and I'm often checking both accounts more frequently than that.
As for power-cycling the phone, I received it on Tuesday. Activated it and set it up from a backup of my old iphone which had been taken on Friday, and it's been reset twice since then. It's rarely powered down as it sits in the desk cradle at work, in a cradle on my bedside table at night, and is in my pocket the rest of the time.
