Server 10.4.4, administrator account has "access account" disabled

Hi,
I allowed a new tech to add users to our Xserve. Somehow he disabled the check box "access acount" in workgroup manager for the only administrator account. It now appears we cannot turn this back on! The end result is you can only access workgroup manager locally.Remote desktop and VNC now won't work. We can't re-enable the "access account" option for the administrator account or create new administrators as our only administrator account is now not active. I have no idea why you should be able to do this, but duplicated the problem on a test machine. If you create an admin account and uncheck the box "access acount" then the server can no longer be adminstrated!
Any ideas?
Dave

  • Trying to access SMB share, can read but not write, I use the domain account to autenticate and domain account has access to the share. its a samba domain and im a Windows Admin by trade.

    I have two  I Mac's Intel i7 models.
I have some problems getting them to write files to SMB shares.
The domain user account I use when requested to enter when i first try to connect to the share seems to go though without a problem and it presents me with a list of mounts (shares) I select one and the folder opens, I can read files and copy them but I cant write to any of the folders.
I have also mounted the network locatiosn to a folder from the terminal while also specifying a user name and password to use but this also doesnt allow the specified user account to write data to the share.
I have confirmed the user account can write to the share by having the user do so from a windows box.
any help from any of you mac guys would be great!!!!
Im a windows fan boy / Windows Server based Network Administrator and am slowly becomming a fan of your macs (mainly due to the Unix terminal access letting me realise there is more control to be had than most haters would lead you to believe).
    Peace Out

I should add that I originally formatted the problematic drive for FAT32 from the Mac, but then the WinXP computer couldn't see the drive when I plugged it in directly via USB. That's why I went with Seagate's utility to format it.

If I enable a guest account so my housemate can use my mac can I restrict his access to the hard drive with my private documents on it? And if so how can I do this?

  • Wrong Database Access Account (Project Server 2013)

    Hi,
After “Connect to a server farm – Create a new server farm”...
In the Specify Configuration Database Setting page of the
SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard, in the Specify Database Access Account section, I entered a wrong
    User Name.
How and where can I correct it?
    Thanks for your help

    Hello,
The Database access account is basically the "Farm Admin account" of your farm. It's possible to change it, however it's not a good idea doing that and it's not pretty, If this is a
very new farm then I'll recommend re-creating a farm using correct account. Below are the steps.
    1) Run the SharePoint Config wizard and disconnect the servers from the farm.
    2) Run the SharePoint Config wizard and create new farm >> give correct user name for Database Access Account.
However if you decide to change it, here is the instructions, they are provided without any guarantee!
Go to Central Administration -> Security, click the Configure Service Accounts link under General Security head. Then select Farm Account from the doprdown list. Make sure the account you use have all the permissions. You need those permissions.
    Hope this helps!
    Thank you,
    Kiran K.

  • Hotmail account has subfolders.  Can Mac email access them?

I'm trying to help my wife set up her new Macbook Air and didn't have any trouble connecting the Mac email system to her hotmail account.  But for some reason, it only shows her inbox, sent box and trash.  The actual hotmail account has a whole bunch of folders other than inbox ("professional", "family", etc) that she set up over many years while using hotmail from her PC.  Any suggestions?
I'm not sure if this is significant but the hotmail account shows them under the inbox rather than at the "top" level.  Also, they were originally created using a POP client (Microsoft Outlook) -- once upon a time they were actually in her personal folders on her old PC, and then in preparation for moving to the Mac a while ago, she dragged and dropped these folders onto the POP side of her account. Much network uploading ensued and eventually, the hotmail account showed them and all the emails were accessable (are, in fact, accessible, via the Outlook.com tab on her msn homepage).
But she prefers the Mac email client so the puzzle is to get the Mac to even notice that these exist.

    Hi,
    Got the same problem on my side. The easy way will be to use Microsoft Outlook for Mac which allow ActiveSync support (Exchange feature). Which even if microsoft say it should work with any mail client that support exchange here (Mail in our case), it doesn't;
    http://help.outlook.com/en-gb/140/bb896613.aspx
You can supposely use "m.outlook.com" or I read somewhere else that "s.outlook.com" for Exchange Server was suppose to work which is not the case.
Mac Client "Mail" work perfectly with Exchange protocol but you can bet that Microsoft prefer you to use Outlook and buy Office suite for Mac, where they make most of there profits with this software suite (And a couple of other things but this is there "Milk Cow") for Benefice.
In other way, it work perfectly with iPhone to set up an Outlook Account but on Mac, this is another story ...

  • Windows users - "Access Account" gets disabled by server every night?!?

I have an OS X Server 10.4.7 on a new Mac Pro in our office. All of my windows users connect to a basic Windows fileshare using the server's IP, then I map the network drives, so they should auto connect. I connect the users, verify the connection, log out, log back in, the drives re-connect like normal. However, TWICE now, I verify that thye all work, then the next morning (or over the weekend), it's like the OS X Server disabled everyone's accounts, except mine (i'm an adminstrator account). Nobody can get to their shares, and all the "Access Account" checkboxes on all my users are unchecked.
I have Open Directory set as an OD Master, with default policies.
Under Windows I have it set as a PDC (I'll migrate my old domain accounts once I have the server working, unless this is my whole problem)
I disabled the file share of "users", but I can't see why that would be my problem. It works until overnight, seemingly.
    Ideas?

    System.log has thousands of these:
    Sep 18 07:47:32 Genesis1 kernel [0]: (11997: ps) ftp: failed on 0:
asl.log has a bunch of these:
[Time 2006.09.18 17.29.48 UTC] [Facility daemon] [Sender DirectoryService] [PID 63] [Message Failed Authentication return is being delayed due to over five recent auth failures for username: anish.] [Level 1] [ UID -2] [GID -2] [Host Genesis1]
The only thing I've set up on any machine is network drive connections, and I manually entered names and passwords. Not sure if XP is doing anything else on its own.

  • How to check when admin or some other account has been logging in to the server

    Hi
How can I check when admin or some other particular account has logged in to the server? So that I can check login times for users.

    Hi,
You can try to edit the XML file to filter events by logon types.
In addition, explicit credentials mean that we input our user name and password in front of a computer through keyboard (or other more advanced means). After that, Windows system will pack our credentials as tickets for further
purposes like access network resources, tickets are implicit credentials.

  • Server restrict from domain administrator account

192.168.1.XXX server will be access by local account only.
    Please help..

I have a server 192.168.1.XXX which is added in AD domain but I would like to restrict this server from domain administrator account.
192.168.1.XXX server will be access by local account only.
    Please help..
You received some great suggestions and info. Curious, why would you want to remove the domain admin account from accessing the server?
Maybe a stand alone server may be a better solution? You can still access domain resources from a stand alone using specific domain accounts, but the machine won't be joined to the domain preventing the domain admin account from accessing it.

  • Administrator account has been disabled

I've taken over support of Crystal Server 4.0 in my organization and was notified by a user that all scheduled jobs were failing with this error:
login error. [CrystalEnterprise.DiskUnmanaged]: [Logon failure: the specified account password has expired.]
I attempted to log into Central Management Console using the 'Administrator' account and password and receive the following:
Account Information Not Recognized: The user account has been disabled. (FWB 00012)

    Hi David,
    Please follow the below steps:
In Your Case only the Folder Name is changed other wise everything is same.
    Symptom:
The password for the administrator password is lost and there is no other account with administrator rights to log in the CMC and reset the password for this user
    Resolution:
The steps required to perform are detailed in the Installation guide attached in the references section. However, there is one mistake in the order of the steps.
Page 71: Chapter 5.9.1 To reset the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform administrator account password
    1. Locate the CMS process: launch the Process Explorer utility, and locate CMS.exe.
    2. Copy the CMS command to the clipboard. In Process Explorer, copy the "Command line" field.
    3. Use the Central Configuration Manager (CCM) to stop the SIA. To launch the CCM, go to Programs > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise
XI 4.0 > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise > Central Configuration Manager. Once you have confirmed that the SIA has stopped,
    proceed to the next step.
    4. Paste the CMS command to a command-line. Do not press Enter. Open a "Command Prompt" window and paste in the contents from step3.
    5. Append the -serverconsole switch to the command and press Enter. For example, note that the following command has -serverconsole
    appended:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\cms.exe" -loggingPath "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/logging/" -port 6400 -restart -dbinfo "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/win64_x64/_boe_ACME.dbinfo" -noauditor -autoboot -fg -name ACME.cms - pidfile "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/serverpids/ACME_ACME.CentralManagementServer.pid" -serverconsole
The SIA is launched in serverconsole mode. You will be prompted when the SIA is ready to accept commands.
    6. Go to the following folder: <BOE_INSTALL_DIR>\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\dfo The dfo folder
contains a subfolder with a randomly generated name starting with dfo_.
    7. Copy the file named BusinessObjects_Administrator_dfo.xml from inside the dfo_ folder to the following folder:
    <BOE_INSTALL_DIR>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\packages
    8. Enter the following query: select si_id from ci_systemobjects where si_name='Administrator' Four objects are returned. Record the
    SI_ID for each object.
Tip: One of the entries should have the SI_ID set to 12.
    9. Delete the objects by typing the following command for each object: delete <ID_NUMBER>
    10. Verify that the objects have been deleted by re-entering the command from step 8: select si_id from ci_systemobjects where
    si_name='Administrator'
    No objects should be returned.
    11. Enter the following query: select si_id from ci_systemobjects where si_name='BusinessObjects_Administrator_dfo.xml' One object should be returned. Record the object's SI_ID number.
    12. Delete the object by entering the following command: delete <SI_ID>
    13. Type quit to exit.
    14. Use the CCM to start the SIA.
    15. Launch the CCM, go to Programs > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise > Central Configuration Manager.
You can now log on to the administrator account without having to provide password (leave the "Password" field blank).
Hope this will help you as well.
    Thanks,
    Daya
