Server Admin: Certificate Icon Disappearing

When I launch Server Admin 10.6.3 on my powerbook in order to connect to my OS X Server 10.5.8, I am unable to add Certificates.
Initially, when the server isn't connected yet, the "Certificate Icon" appears in the toolbar:
(Overview) (Logs) (File Sharing) (Server Updates) (Certificates) (Access) (Settings)
but as soon as it connects (green dot), the icon disappears:
(Overview) (Logs) (File Sharing) (Server Updates) (Access) (Settings)
Has anyone experienced this, or have any tips on where I can look for answers?

I also am having this problem in Server Admin for 10.6.4. No solutions?

  • SSL Certificate appears valid in Server Admin, but as expired in browsers

I've imported a certificate from Thawte that expires June 29 2008. It shows the correct dates within the Certificates tab of Server Admin, and everthing looks fine, but when I load an https: page on my server, the browser tells me that the certificate expired June 30 2007.
This is a fairly new Mac Pro running OSX 10.5.2 Leopard Server, and Apache 2.2.
If you click on the embedded icon from Thawte that links to their site for verification, it also shows that the certificate is valid.
I've deleted and re-imported it a few times, and rebooted the server, but it always shows as expired in browsers.
    Sample page with link to Thawte;

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get this fixed.
    Brad.

    Camelot,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not offended by your suggestion that it's something simple that I've overlooked, rather I'm hoping that it is.
I have selected the certificate on the appropriate site on the web panel. When you visit the site link In my original message, you'll see that the correct certificate is being served, but it appears as expired to the browser, even though it shows as valid in Server Admin.
I also found it in the Keychain utility, and it also shows as a valid certifcate there. I did find an entry in the Keychain utility for an earlier attempt at installing an expired certificate, so I deleted that entry.

  • "Settings" has disappeared in Server Admin

After upgrading both of my Xserve G4's from OS X Server 10.4.8 to 10.4.9, I noticed when Server Admin is connected to one of the servers, the "Settings" button when you select the server does not appear. I also don't get information back about the system version, computer name, system start time, etc. The rest of Server Admin appears to work correctly, though. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
Regardless of which system I run Server Admin from, when I select the "working" server in Server Admin I see tabs for Overview / Logs / System / Graphs / Update / Settings, for the "unhealthy" server I only see tabs for Overview / Logs / System / Graphs / Update. In addition, no valid information is shown in the Overview tab (as shown below).
Luckily, I do have a workaround. Although the Server Admin GUI doesn't appear to be functioning correctly, the serveradmin CLI tool works fine. I'm wondering what the 10.4.9 update might have clobbered. Disk Verify / Repair Permissions haven't turned up any problems.

Yes, in many cases you can still use commands via the Terminal, see Apple's Command-Line Administration guide
    http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/
I would look through your logs. If you launch /Applications/Utilities/Console , it should open the last log written to.
See about enabling the debugging menu in Server Admin. Quit out of SA, and in the Terminal enter:
    defaults write com.apple.serveradmin UseDebugMenu YES

  • Share point in server admin not working correctly... I think

I suspect that the share point in server admin is not working correctly. In workgroup manager when I click on a user and then click on the "home" tab, under the full path field I see a file path of:
    afp://server.mydomain.com/Users
However if I go to Server Admin -> AFP -> Share Points then click on the Users share and then click on the share point tab below, enable auto mount is disabled. How can this be possible? I thought for a directory to show up in home in workgroup manager it had to be set as an auto mount. Has something possibly corrupted? And what?

Here's a bit more information about our setup and our experiences with Apple's CUPS implementation:
On the server, all printer queues are set up with only lpr and ipp sharing enabled with the PPD setting for each printer set to Generic Postscript. We found that setting the PPD to the printer specific one on the server caused problems when clients tried to use printer specific options, like paper tray selection, etc.. The selection would be undone, apparently because the driver on the server would override the previous settings. Using Generic Postscript allows the client PPD settings to go through unmodified. Our printers are general a mix of HP LaserJets and some Sharp Copiers.
All clients use lpd to the server queues with the printers' actual PPDs configured. Using ipp is superior in that printer feedback (jams, out of toner, etc) makes it back to the clients, but ipp only works when the client, the server, and the printer are on the same network. If the ipp client is not on the same network, the client spooler immediately goes into a paused state and the print job is stuck on the client.
Using lpd to the server queues works reliably, but there is no feedback to the client. Jobs disappear from the client queue and go to the server, appearing to the user as a successful print. If the printer is down, there's nothing they can see or do about it.

  • Print Queue Management via Server Admin not working

We have Xserves (10.5.8) running the Print Service for queue management to our printers. Clients print through the server just fine.
When the printer jams or is otherwise paused, print jobs pile up in the queue as expected. The queue can be seen and managed by logging into the server, going to Server Preferences/Print & Fax and selecting the print queue.
However, when the queue for the paused printer is viewed within Server Admin/Print, the queue shows as empty and therefore can't be managed. We want to use Server Admin for this function because:
    1) Server Admin can be run remotely on a workstation, so no login to the server required.
    2) We can assign Print Service management rights to select non-admins so they can manage the queues.
Any ideas on why Server Admin fails to show spooled jobs? Is it working for anyone else?
I am using Server Admin version 10.5.3 which are the latest available that comes with Server Admin Tools 10.5.7. We had been running 10.5.7 on the Xserve and it didn't work then either.

  • Server Admin keeps dispaying error "The service has encountered an error."

All the services in the Server Admin function are continuously displaying the following error message:
The service has encountered an error.
Try to refresh the view (servername.local/servicename). (kNetworkError)
I press OK and the message disappears, but I have to go through every service to remove this message, and then it just reappears a little later. But it doesn't seem to affect the operation of the server, but I'm concerned that this is disguising a future problem and would like to get rid of this occurring. I have searched the forums and found nobody to help me. Please can anyone help me?

Thanks guys, it seems this is a feature of the operating system and Apple have not bothered to find a solution, maybe because you're not supposed to leave the server admin open for long periods of time. A little disappointing, however it does not seems to be causing any other problems with the server as it is running perfectly well.
Thanks to everyone for your input, I'll close this issue now, and as Jamie Curmi stated this may be resolved in the next release of the OS.

  • Web service is running but Server Admin says "Not available"

    Hello,
I cannot configure the web service using the Server Admin tool any more. The service is running and showing no error, but the "Web" icon in the "Computer & Services" panel of Server Admin is showing dark grey color. The Overview tab of the Web Service is stating: "Web Service is: Not available"
Any ideas what I can do to get it work again?
sudo apachectl configtest gave no errors or warnings.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You should not be logging in as root, despite what anyone has told you.
And the entire mechanism of OS X Server (and most other *nix OS-en), is meant for you to not be logged in as root.
Use sudo and/or authenticate in the GUI when/where needed.
    Please try Wesley's advise here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2862670
Try launching apache manually, and watch your logs
    Ie:
    in one terminal window, type:
    tail -f /var/log/httpd/error_log
make a new Terminal window and type:
    sudo apachectl start

  • Change SMB settings (sharepoint, status, etc.) with Server Admin

Hi. Big problems with Server Admin to administer SMB service with Mac OS X Server 10.5.2.
When you share a sharepoint, you set the enable oplocks and enable strict locking as you want and when you save, all your settings disappear. Fix with modifying directly /etc/smb.conf.
Worse. My server "B" is connected to an ODM "A". No problem with Open Directory / Kerberos except when I try to bind the SMB Service to the PDC. When you choose Domain Member, the setting is automatically reverted to Standalone (nothing's visible in the log with the status change). When you choose Latin 1 850, the setting goes back to Latin US 437.
    I'm lost.
    Any experience ?
    Best regards.

I have a Leopard Server 10.5.2 and it's a PDC. Same problem with strict locking and Code Page Latin US 437.
Doing many tests I found this solution to the code page problem that seem to be a sync problem of the Server Admin.
Try this but remember to do a backup of your files!!
To change the SMB Code Page, modify the smb service default configuration file:
    sudo pico /System/Library/CoreServices/SmbFileServer.bundle/Resources/ServerDefaults.plis t
    Set:
    <key>DOSCodePage</key>
    <string>CP437</string>
    To:
    <key>DOSCodePage</key>
    <string>CP850</string>
Save in pico with ctrl+x and Restart SMB Service in server admin.

  • Server Admin error: servermgr_info

Something (as yet unknown, although I suspect my self-signed SSL certificate may have expired) caused my webserver (at least the secure portion) to be unresponsive. I tried to restart the server, but the finder was being unresponsive as well. So I was forced to hard-reset the server. It booted back up ok, but now the Server Admin is not working properly. After connecting to the server, I get the message
A service has encountered an error ... (“servermgr_info” server-side plugin may have unexpectedly quit)
    I found the file /usr/share/servermgrd/cgi-bin/servermgr_info
and even tried replacing it with a copy from another OS 10.4 server (thinking that perhaps the file got munched in the force-quit, but that didn't help.
I downloaded a new copy of the Server Admin Tools, but they won't install when you already have them, and I see no way to uninstall the ones I've got.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
When I try to use the command..
    /System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setSerialNumber SERIAL NUMBER
It just comes back with the command usage.
Is there some speical way the serial number is entered?
    Thanks.

  • Os X Server 10.6.5 Server Admin iChat not Editable

    Hello All,
I upgraded my server to the most recent release 10.6.5. Previously my Ichat (or so I thought) was set correctly and we modifiable in Server Admin. ONce I updated all fields are greyed out and un-editable. I tried to reinitialize the plist with the PlistBuddy option suggested in this forum with no success.
Here is the output to changeip -checkhostname
    bash-3.2$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Password:
    Primary address = 192.168.1.210
    Current HostName = appleXserver.local
The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool.
    dirserv:success = "success"
This is obviously wrong. appleXerver.local is the local name of the server. This was working before the update. In server admin it shows that 192.168.1.210 resolves to server.679ave.com. (FDNQ) as it should.
The name server that the primary zone 679ave.com. points to is dns.679ave.com.
Any suggestions? Why did this change (did I have a bug to begin with?).

ok figured out the dns problem...looks like in the system preferences the dns wasn't setup after the update. now sudo changeip -checkhostname gives
    bash-3.2$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Password:
    Primary address = 192.168.1.210
    Current HostName = server.679ave.com
    DNS HostName = server.679ave.com
The names match. There is nothing to change.
    dirserv:success = "success"
    bash-3.2$
now sudo serveradmin settings jabber gives

  • Admin Applet icons not visible

    Hi Guys,
I have installed UCM on server with apache as web server and java 1.5.
UCM installed successfully..but what i found is admin applet icons are visible if i open my content server from local system but when i use server system IP and try to open UCM from remote desktop admin applet icon are not visible.
Is this java version error. How can i resolve it?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
I might sound like I'm repeating but you said you have Java 1.5 on your desktop which is fine cause you can see it from there but.. do you have 1.5 for the <u>browser you're using in the remote desktop</u>? Because this is surely a browser JRE issue.
Go to the browser properties and look for the JRE your browser is using:
i.e IE explorer: Internet Options->Advanced Tab-> scroll down until you find the Java option and make sure JRE 1.5 (or later) is being used.

  • Hostname mismatch - Server.app/Server Admin

    Hi All,
I have a strange one here. I seem to have a "mismatch" in hostname between Server.app & Server Admin - this also seems to be causing issues with SSL which is calling out a "hostname mismatch" between the SSL certificate and the server using the certificate (because it believes the server names don't match).
Server.app - says hostname is srvmacmini.yourdomain.net.au (correct config)
Server Admin says hostname  srvmacmini-yourdomain-net-au.local (note the inserted "-" and .local)
Computer name is set to srvmacmini
Using the terminal - hostname is srvmacmini.yourdomain.net.au
DNS still seems to be working ok with all names resolving as expected - srvmacmini.yourdomain.net.au
I have tried to reset the entry in Server Admin to match the entry in Server.app - however it won't let me update the entry for some reason.
Would really appreciate someones insight on this.
Finally - a complaint/rant - I frankly don't know why Apple cannot develop a SINGLE and efficient admin interface, this current mashup of tools where your switching between Server.App, Server Admin, Workgroup and then Profile Manager and everything else is frankly not efficient and leads to issues as described above in my view. No point having two GUI's to managed the same set of config values.

    Try this solution: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3960?locale=en_US
    It says:
    Resolution
To check if servermgrd is loaded, see the output of this command in Terminal:
sudo launchctl list | grep -q com.apple.servermgrd && echo loaded || echo not loaded
If the output is "not loaded", load the com.apple.servermgrd job into launchd with this command:
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist
    Hope this helps.

  • Security Update 2007-005 - Cannot find Server under Server  Admin

After I installed Security Update 2007-005 all my machines began to have problems. I was able to get them all running except my server, it is a PowerMac G4 running Mac OSX Server 10.4.9. When I click on my server in Server Admin it acts as though the server does not exist. I am able to boot to the machine and connect to the shared drives from my client computers. However the web server is not working at all.

However when i disconnect and try to connect
    with the hostname
When you say ‘hostname’ do you mean its .local name? or its FQDN?
the server admin buttons show up
as little padlocks instead of the normal green. It
    does not let me connect.
This is intersting! Whats described is not mentioned in any Apple Server documentation that I’ve seen – perhaps someone knows different? I’ve never seen a padlock icon in Server Admin Services list. My experience has been you can connect to Server Admin and it shows green against services running, or you can’t connect but have the server left in the list and all services are red. Workgroup Manager shows a padlock if you are not authenticated to Open Directory node, is this what you mean?

  • How do I remove a DHCP static mapping that will not go away in Server Admin?

I have a static DHCP mapping to a retired network that I can't remove from the Server Admin GUI.
To be specific, I click remove and it disappears.
To then click "SAVE" and it comes back.
How do I remove it manually? Where are the static mappings located that make it reappear each time I click "SAVE".
    From the DHCP logs:
    Jun 28 18:36:18 macmini-home servermgrd[97]: servermgr_dhcp:bootp config:Notice:Removed record GabrielHouse-Gateway
    Jun 28 18:36:27 macmini-home servermgrd[97]: servermgr_dhcp:bootp config:Error:Unable to update/remove record with id 45F7E04B-6368-419C-9A86-64458BBAC5C0 because 12 records found.

    Hi John,
Thank you for taking the time to write up the approach and places to start.
I have checked in all of the places listed and no luck. No occurance of the "stuck" statically mapped DHCP address. Just to add a note, of detail about the particular device in case this is a client device that is causing this .... The device is an iPhone and it is NOT using the bad static assignment. Also, the static record is an IP address that is now outside of the current network range..... It is 192.168.0.25 .... where as the current DHCP server range is in the 10.1.XX.XX range.
Also, This server is not using Open Directory, but I did open WGM to see what I could see thru the GUI and I found no record in the local database.
Also, note - I attempted to delete ALL DHCP configuration on this server by
    1) Exporting the configuration data with Server Admin
    2) Manually removing the bad DHCP static assignment in the plist
    3) Turning off the DHCP Server
    4) Deleting the full DHCP zone.
    5) Importing the DHCP configuration from the edited plist.
    6) Turning on DHCP Service.
    The bad record is back....
Thanx for the ideas. Keep them coming....
