Server box config for logging in

I have two arch boxes, one server one desktop on home network with router. I have SSH and VNC working great and all between them, but I'm wondering how to set up the server so that I don't have to login. Basically if the power goes out and it turns back on, it boots and goes straight in as my user. I'm the only one w/access to both boxes so unless it's bad for another reason I'd like to do it this way. The server runs a plain fluxbox session, I currently use GDM on the server because I just never bothered to take it off and set this method up hehe. Oh and I know of the option in GDM setup to enable automatc login, but wondering if I can skip GDM altogether to make it quicker.
Thanks for help with this

Yeah same, I run it tunneled over the internet from home to work all the time, I just set TightVNC to low bandwidth and its very snappy.
Edit:
Home: Comcast 10mbit down/1mbit up
Work: DSL ~2-4mbit down/??

  • Care to share your server/hardware config for Spatial?

Hi there - we're in the early stages of planning for a new spatial system (geocoding a large volume of existing address data), and we'd like to get a sense of what different organisations might be using by way of server architecture for a high-availability, large volume dataset GIS where your typical spatial query is a within-polygon or buffer-type search of geocoded address data, and you might need to support several thousand of these per hour... (for example).
Would you share your platform/CPU/OS/memory/storage config comments as they relate to a dedicated Oracle Spatial 10g DBMS?
Or perhaps just suggest what you had to do in addition to the baseline 10gDBMS requirements to give Spatial room to perform well...
Any comments are accepted with humble thanks.
    Kind regards
    Dennis

    Dennis,
Several thousand, say 3000 per hour is less than one a second. I'm not sure how much data you have (define large), but in general I'd try to keep all, or most of the data in RAM to get the best performance possible. A Linux box with say, 512GB of RAM is entirely resonable to use. If your seach patter is geographicly time sensitive (moves based on time of day), you could also effectively use partition prunning to reduce the amount of data to be searched.
This is will give you a single, fast, db. For HA you need at least two, depending on what you define HA as.

  • Windows Server push config for fax modem

We have a new Windows 2012 R2 Server, we installed a fax modem on it and turned the fax server feature on. We were hoping to be able to share the fax as a printer
and push through GPO, which being pushed but when the end user attempt to print to it in order to send a fax, a new fax configure wizard shows up....
So we are trying to find if there is a way to push this config to all users without having to configure every individual end user PC which is a nightmare.
The end product should be fax being pushed through GPO, when they print to it, its being processed and sent auto after they type the number they want to fax it to,
    that's it.

    Hi,
Based on your descriprion, I understand that you want to automatically deploy fax configuration via group policy. I can't find such group policy setting which may help us to achieve this target. On current situation, please refer to following article and
    check if can help you.

  • VM Box config for Windows 7

When setting up VM Box for a Windows 7 install, do I select Vista or Other Windows?

Thank you for the link, yet I'm still stuck.
I'm not sure that the guest additions installation was successful as after reboot, Windows crashed.
Windows freezes on start up now. Occasionally it will successfully boot. When it did so I changed the screen resolution which makes the window a bit bigger and better looking, but I'm not sure I couldn't have done this before - I don't know because I didn't try it prior to the guest additions install.
What should be different following a guest additions install? How do I know if the installation why successful?
Also, my sound doesn't work on Windows. No device is installed. I have my settings identical to the settings referenced in the link you shared.

  • How do i stop workstation users from saving their network password or credentials for logging into a 2008 R2 Server workgroup?

I have a small workgroup of about 30 users that are a mix of XP Pro, 7 Pro and 8.1 desktop / laptop users that connect to a Windows 2008 R2 Server to use Quickbooks Enterprise, share files and printers. I dont want the users to be able to save their password
on their workstations, I want them to have to log in every time they connect to the server. How do I turn that off?Is the something on the server in Group Policy or a secruity setting that will not allow a saved credential for logging onto the server?

    Hi,
I have a small workgroup of about 30 users that are a mix of XP Pro, 7 Pro and 8.1 desktop / laptop users that connect to a Windows 2008 R2 Server to use Quickbooks Enterprise
By connecting to the server, do you mean users log on locally or through remote desktop services, or just through network to access network resources instead of log on to the server directly?
If it’s log on locally, please disable auto logon feature by configure the registry entry
AutoLogonCount to 0, it is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
If it’s remote desktop connection, please clear Logon Credentials for corresponding remote desktop sessions.
If it’s network access, then it is by design because network logon has a single-sign-on feature.

  • More than 1 AAA server for logging in to WebVPN

    Hi everybody,
Does anyone know if ASA supports simultaneous authentication more than 1 AAA server? I've created LDAP and SecurID token account for every users and want them provide both account information for logging in to WebVPN.
    Please advice.
    Thanks for advance,
    Nitass

If you are aaa server you are referring to is "radius server", then you can try out the following commands.
In ASDM you would simply add the said RADIUS servers to the "server group"
If you wish to do this through CLI, you would define a group eg
    aaa-server radius protocol radius
    aaa-server radius host x.x.x.x
    aaa-server radius host y.y.y.y
    aaa-server radius host z.z.z.z
and you would then call this in the said tunnel-group :
    tunnel-group opsource type ipsec-ra
    tunnel-group opsource general-attributes
    address-pool admin_ra
    authentication-server-group radius LOCAL
    default-group-policy opsource

  • Kernel Config for Server

Arch's default kernel config is well suited to desktop performance, but what about the server?  Ubuntu server lists these items on their Kernel Features page:
    * The Server Edition uses the Deadline I/O scheduler instead of the CFQ scheduler used by the Desktop Edition.
    * Pre-emption is turned off in the Server Edition.
    * The timer interrupt is 100 Hz in the Server Edition and 250 Hz in the Desktop Edition.
    * The Server Edition is optimised for i686 processors while the Desktop Edition is optimised for both the i586 and i686.
    * Virtualization is better supported in the Server Edition through the enabling of IPC namespaces.
    * Multiple routing tables for the IPv6 protocol are also supported in the Server Edition.
    * For 32-bit systems the Server Edition is configured to use PAE which allows addressing up to 64GB of memory while the Desktop Edition is configured for 4GB.
So if you were making a "Server Edition" of Arch, what would you change?

imho, with all my respect to arch as a great desktop distribution, i would not run arch on any production server.

  • Server Config for DMS

    Hi All,
We're having SAP ERP ECC 6.0, and are going to implement DMS soon. Can anyone guide me about server configuration required for the same.
Can we use 32bit servers for DMS and integrate it with existing 64bit servers for ERP?
    Ashish

    Hi,
DMS is part of ECC 6.0, you will only need content server to store DMS documents. It is possible to use 32 bit content server which talks with SAP (your 64 bit install) through http protocols. You need to plan one server for content server, on the same server you can install TREX search engine provides the RAM permits it.

I need a working emta config for a DPQ3295 cable modem that will work with a Metaswitch AGC using NCS

Thanks for the reply but it still doesn't work.  I have tried those commands a few times and I always get the same error...access violation.
I am using TFTPserver for Mac.  My Server Status, Working path permissions and Parent folder permission are all green.
I have tried it with a pre-made file and without a pre-made file and I get the same result.
I can create and modify any files in my working directory.
This the message in the log file...Mar 25 13:12:41 MacBook-Pro-Retina.local TftpServer[1295]: 10.4-style NSDateFormatter method called on a 10.0-style formatter, which doesn't work. Break on _NSDateFormatter_Log_New_Methods_On_Old_Formatters to debug. This message will only be logged once.

    Hi Paul,
We are using a third party tool called UMT Project Essentials 2012, recently we have removed the tool from sharepoint central admin and uninstalled from the server.
We tried deleting some missing assemblies features web parts which are referencing to that tool but still we are not able to start the workflow and the same issue persists.

  • Does anyone have a good server.xml file for tomcat?

I am trying to link apache and tomcat on a RedHat 9 computer. I previously posted a message stating that I could not get tomcat to "automagically" make the configuration files (mod_jk.conf-auto) that all the manuals promised it would. However, I found that my problem was the lack of an ApacheConfig tag in the server.xml file. After looking at my server.xml file, I found that it was much more simplistic than I would hoped = it did not have enough comments or commented out options. It had none of the directives that the manuals said it included by default.
In short, does anyone who has apache and tomcat linked have a server.xml file that I can look at so that I can figure out what I must add to mine to get tomcat working with apache? I would greatly appreciate it if you could copy and paste the whole thing here.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Edward S. Rice

    Hi!
I am having the Apache-Tomcat4.0 version installed on a Win2000 machine. I am pasting here my server.xml. Hope it will be useful to you. I even didnot do much modifications to my server.xml except for adding a context.
Please come back if problem persists.

You can also enable an SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8443 by
following the instructions below and uncommenting the second Connector
entry. SSL support requires the following steps (see the SSL Config
HOWTO in the Tomcat 4.0 documentation bundle for more detailed
    instructions):
    * Download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or later, and put the JAR files
    into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
    * Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
    the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

to the Store when Catalina is shutdown, regardless of
other settings. All Sessions found in the Store will be
loaded on startup. Sessions past their expiration are
    ignored in both cases.
maxActiveSessions: If 0 or greater, having too many active
sessions will result in some being swapped out. minIdleSwap
limits this. -1 means unlimited sessions are allowed.
0 means sessions will almost always be swapped out after
use - this will be noticeably slow for your users.
minIdleSwap: Sessions must be idle for at least this long
(in seconds) before they will be swapped out due to
maxActiveSessions. This avoids thrashing when the site is
highly active. -1 or 0 means there is no minimum - sessions
can be swapped out at any time.
maxIdleSwap: Sessions will be swapped out if idle for this
long (in seconds). If minIdleSwap is higher, then it will
override this. This isn't exact: it is checked periodically.
-1 means sessions won't be swapped out for this reason,
although they may be swapped out for maxActiveSessions.
If set to >= 0, guarantees that all sessions found in the
Store will be loaded on startup.
maxIdleBackup: Sessions will be backed up (saved to the Store,
but left in active memory) if idle for this long (in seconds),
and all sessions found in the Store will be loaded on startup.
If set to -1 sessions will not be backed up, 0 means they
should be backed up shortly after being used.
To clear sessions from the Store, set maxActiveSessions, maxIdleSwap,
and minIdleBackup all to -1, saveOnRestart to false, then restart

SidK wrote:You must have modified your torrc to print to that log file. systemd starts the service as the tor user (see /usr/lib/systemd/system/tor.service). So if if you want to log to a file the tor user must have write access to it. By default however tor it set to log to the journal, which doesn't require any special permissions.
Yes. I did edit the torrc file since I wanted the log to be store in that file. Indeed
    ## Logs go to stdout at level "notice" unless redirected by something
    ## else, like one of the below lines. You can have as many Log lines as
    ## you want.
    ## We advise using "notice" in most cases, since anything more verbose
    ## may provide sensitive information to an attacker who obtains the logs.
    ## Send all messages of level 'notice' or higher to /var/log/tor/notices.log
    #Log notice file /var/log/tor/notices.log
    ## Send every possible message to /var/log/tor/debug.log
    Log debug file /var/log/tor/debug.log
    ## Use the system log instead of Tor's logfiles
    Log notice syslog
    ## To send all messages to stderr:
    #Log debug stderr
I missed the file systemd uses to choose who's the process owner.
Course, I could edit /usr/lib/systemd/system/tor.service such that root will become the process owner; or, I could add the user I use everyday in the root group, then change the permission of /var/log/tor/debug.log such that it will be writable also for the folks in the root group.
Yet they both seems to be a bit unsafe ...
What is the best choice, to you guys?
    Thanks,

    Hi Patrick,
It looks like you've got debug logging enabled, and that shows a lot of extra "stuff" in the logs that can look disconcerting. But everything here looks fine, in my experience. The STDERR lines just look like Profile Manager polling to see if its PostgreSQL cluster has started up. Things like this:
NOTICE:  function _dm_after_library_item_deleted(library_items) does not exist, skipping
are also not necessarily indicative of problems. As you can see, it has a "NOTICE:" prefix, not "ERROR:". This just means it's sending a command like DROP FUNCTION IF NOT EXISTS and it doesn't exist. The reason to use "IF NOT EXISTS" is to indicate the programmers intent that it's OK if the named item doesn't exist, but PostgreSQL still emits a notice, which gets logged with higher debug levels.
You might want to turn off the debug logging to keep from generating huge log files. These commands should do it:
    sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ProfileManager
    sudo killall -HUP -u _devicemgr
