Server Loses Ability to Ping to the Internet

Hello,
I have a new physical HP server running Server 2008 R2 with Whats Up Gold. Recently, the server started developing an issue roughly every 48 hours where it cannot ping or use ICMP to the internet. The ability to ping to the internet returns roughly two hours
later after the start of the symptoms or if I perform a reboot. We know this because we have some stuff we monitor over the internet. It has been in production since November and started this behavior in early January for some reason. Nothing has changed to
my knowledge that would cause this issue.  It doesn't lose the ability to use ICMP internally just going out to the internet. The local firewall is off and IPv6 is not disabled. I have seen this happen live and have been able to troubleshoot with our
network engineers. They are supposedly not seeing any denials of traffic on their firewalls or load balancers.
So far I have:
1. Changed cabling and switch ports with no luck
2. Worked with HP to replaced the NIC card itself and make sure drivers, BIOS, and firmware are updated
3. Rebuilt the TCP/IP stack on the local server
4. Taken the server out of production, changed the network segment and local IP (to confirm the problem actually isn't a network firewall issue), and the server still isn't able to ping to the internet.
The discovery of #4 leads to me believe it is the server itself. Like I said in the above paragraph, the server's ability returns usually within two hours or immediately after a reboot.
I am on the verge of either rebuilding or demanding HP replace the server. The server is fully up to date on patches and drivers. I just really haven't seen behavior like this that didn't involve changing out the NIC. I am not sure if changing the system
board would do anything per say. I just want to know what else I could be missing?

Hi,
In order to diagnose the issue, I think we confirm some more information.
Did you ping by IP address or domain name?
Run pathping, check the result and post here.
Could you share ipconfig /all with us?
Thank you.

  • Disregard a ping from the internet???

A common feature of non-Apple routers is the ability to disregard pings from the internet which greatly improves security. I cannot figure out how to tell the APBS to ignore pings on the WAN port. I know this can be done with the Mac OS 10.5 software firewall, but this is not nearly as secure as doing it at the entry point into my entire network (the APBS router).

    Hi Cezar,
Thanks for your reply and apologies for my delay getting back to you.
We were effectively thinking to encapsulate a Java or Python call within an ODI procedure, but we were hoping in having an out-of-the-box starting point within ODI.
Will try and see: if you could give me some additional details about it, that would be great!
    Thanks again,

  • Officejet pro 8500A; loses ability to connect to the server

    Hi all,
For the past month or so, my network printer has developed a glitch.  Everytime I or my family sends a document to print, we see the messaging "preparing to print" and the printer never prints!  I ran the printer trouble shooting on my Windows 7 professional and was given the message:  "The printer was unable to connect to the server.  You can connect to the printer to the internet through a proxy server, to do so, touch Enter Proxy and enter details when prompted"
Well, I've never used a proxy.  My printer was working fine till recently.
The only temporary "fix" I could come up with was to shut down the printer and power it back on.  It would go through a checking printheads or cleaning printheads, etc.  Sometimes the "eprint" button would be circled in red. If so, I hit it and asked to retry finding the server.  This usually works.  After all this, I had a small ( 1hour?) window that I could print or scan documents.  After this, the printer develops a case of amnesia and I'm back to square one.
I've downloaded the latest drivers.  Windows updates are current.
This is getting extremely  frustrating.  What the heck is going on???
    Thanks

    Hello @fsh42na,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are experiencing some network issues with your Officejet Pro 8500A.
    I would like to help.
The printers ability to connect to the Web Services server should have no impact on your local network printing.
It sounds to me like you have two separate issues.
Your temporary fix of turning off the printer is a step in the right direction.
When your printer powers back on, it connects with the router. This new connection is what gives you the ability to print.
Since it only lasts for an hour try the following:
Turn off your printer and other network devices.
Unplug the power cord to your router for at least a minute.
plug the power cord back into the router.
Turn on the printer and other network devices.
    Test print.
If you use the Web Services (ePrint) feature on your printer, try setting a manual DNS.
Though the server connection issue will probably get resolved with the network reset, the manual DNS will not hurt anything.
The following reply by happytohelp01, has instructions for setting a manual DNS.
Efax 7510 still won't work after turning off/on ePrint several times
The post is for a Photosmart 7510, but the steps should be very similar.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

  • My iPad loses it's ability to connect to the internet after awaking from sleep mode. Needs to be rebooted to reconnect.

My iPad loses it's ability to reconnect to the wifi after sleep mode often times, but not always. It is very annoying because it requires a reboot to reconnect. It is running the latest iOS software update. I have also reset network settings to the factory defaults. My wifi is working fine, and all other devices in my house have no issues at all.

Well, I think I have finally come up with a solution. It seems this issue happens when it auto locks. I turned auto lock to "never" in settings, and the issue has not happened since. Seems there may be a bug in this feature???
I now use manual lock, and upon awakening the wifi is now fully working.

I cannot get online from foxfire. My wifi is working since i have it on my ipad. is foxfire locked up so it cannot allow me to use a server to get on the internet. there is no connection. when i reset firefox to default maybe it did not set up right.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • How do you update your server when its not connected to the internet?

This is actually a Windows Update question.
My OS is Windows Server 2008 Standard, Service Pack 2.  It is a stand alone system.
Crazy, I know, but I want to keep my server updated with the latest security patches, Software Patches, etc., even though it will soon not be connected to the internet.  Right now it is and I am making certain it's completely updated prior to removing
    its connection.
How would I do that?  I realize that I will have to do what "Window's Update" does, but do it manually.
Please help! I'm new to servers and I will need this to be very much a step by step. Don't be surprised at to what I don't know at this point.  I am learning though!
Thanks in advance.  Any and all help will be very much appreciated.

    Hi TimothyJohn,
    You either,
    - Setup a disconnected Wsus in the same LAN than your server. See Wsus documentation to see how to do that and how to update a disconnected Wsus.
    - Use a third party tool like "Wsus Offline" :

  • Lost ability to connect to the internet on my desktop after installing Mavericks on my laptop, is there a connection?

    Hi all,
I recently installed Mavericks on my laptop. I have an Ethernet cable I connect to my modem to gain access to the internet. I have another Ethernet cable I use on my desktop computer and I connect THAT cable to the modem when I want to gain access on the desktop. Right now, I have access to the internet on my laptop but not on my desktop. The internet service provider checked everything and could not find a problem. They suggested I contact Apple. Is there any connection between my recent upgrade to OS X Maverick on my laptop and my internet connection issue on the desktop? Last thing, the internet service provider suggested that the problem lies in some setting or preference...Thank you in advance!

Unless you router is an Apple Airport, I doubt that updating your laptop would have changed anything, but who knows.
I would recommend trying to hold the reset button on your router for 30 seconds. This may fix the issue, but this will probably erase all of your router's settings like wifi passwords and stuff like that.
    ~ ~ ~
If you don't want to risk completely resetting your router, I would suggest trying the following:
    – On your laptop (which has a connection)
    – Go to System Preferences >> Network >> Advanced >> TCP/IP
    – Write down the IP number next to "Router"
    – – – Mine looks like this:    192.168.1.125
    – Go to your browser (Safari etc.) and go to     http://RouterIP
    – – – Where "RouterIP" is the number you wrote down before. Mine looks like this:    http://192.168.1.125
This will take you to your router's settings page.
It will probably ask you for a username and password. They probably are:
    User:    admin
    password:   admin
    or
    User: admin
    Password:   your router/wifi password
Look all the settings on this site and see if everything is set to reasonable values.
    ~ ~ ~
If all else fails, then it's probably something to do with the settings on your desktop PC.
    Best,
    Vlad

  • I'm getting a not-quite crash in which I lose ability to interact with the window at all. Is there any way to fix the problem itself? All I can do is an inconvenient "fix" in which I open a new window, and it works in the second window for some reason.

I'm experiencing a not-quite-crash every time I attempt to open firefox on my new computer. What happens is that the menu bar (which I prefer to have visible instead of that orange single-button menu) has all the letters on it turn gray, and I lose my ability to click anywhere on the page, including to close it. If I attempt to close the page via the taskbar it doesn't let me. It does, however, let me open new windows via the taskbar which don't have the same problem, which allows for an easy-but-inconvenient fix. I've tried it out and it does not have the same problem in Safe Mode. As a result of not being a "true" crash I can't give a crash ID, so you won't be able to trace it that way, sorry.

''Problem:'' For whatever reason, NoScript is stopping Runescape Community Toolbar from working properly which freezes your first Firefox window.
''Fix:'' Uninstall the toolbar. Disable NoScript. Install the toolbar. Add your RS account to it and make sure it works, then Enable NoScript again.
EDIT: Posted a fix earlier that was wrong. Corrected to the right one, sorry ^_^ Answer was on Runescape Forums.

  • Unable to ping to the internet

if you do an nslookup then a server 8.8.8.8 what do you see?

    Hey guys,
I have a weird issue. I am unable to ping out from the LAN. Pinging 8.8.8.8 goes nowhere and other sites as well.
SonicWall shows all internal to external services are allowed.
    Internally everything is pingable.
I am also unable to ping from within the SonicWall Diagnostics tool. It just says IP address not responding.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly will not connect to the internet via ethernet cable.

I know this is a long shot... but I figured I would give it a try.
My macbook pro suddenly does not connect to the internet via ethernet cable. Please bear with me, as I am not very tech-savvy - I will try my best to describe the symptoms!
I connect to the internet via ethernet (we don't have wifi). It was working before I went to work, and when I came home I suddenly couldn't get anything to work (I know everyone says this, but I truly didn't mess with anything). Internet browsers just think for awhile and then turn up the 'You are not connected to the internet' error.
I went into my network preferences and curiously, the 'Ethernet' shows a green dot and says 'connected'. However it says 'Authentication server is not responding' underneath the last part that says '802.1X: WPA: eduroam' (I think that is my user profile).
When I go into my 'security' settings I can see that my firewall is off, so that shouldn't be causing any problems.
I've tried restarting the router and computer itself many times. Diagnostics just gets to a certain point and reports back 'Network Diagnostics cannot fix the current networking problems.' I've also tried switching to a different ethernet cable, and I tried both cables out on a PC laptop and it connected without issue.  Additionally, I brought my macbook along to a friend's house and it connected to his wifi just fine, so the problem appears to just be with ethernet connections.
I know it's hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing without being there and having a look at the computer yourself, but any tips wouild be greatly appreciated.

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.

  • Backing up a macbook to a mini over the Internet w/ Time Mach.

I have a Mac Mini at home and a MacBook. I need to backup my MacBook while on the road doing business.
Is there a way to backup to my MacMini at home thru Time Mach. over Apple Remote Desktop?
Is there a way to backup over the Internet thru an IP address?
I have Leopard and presently use Time Machine.
Either solution would be great. And of course my ears are open to any alternate solutions that y'all might want to float my way. I've always had great luck solving problems on these fine Discussion Boards. (OK, it's not luck -- it's the combined skill and experience of the community!) Thanks!

Personally I don't and won't use TM so I don't have an opinion about added features. TM is too unreliable as it is in my opinion.
The ability to backup over the internet is already available in many different ways not the least of which is via FTP or to use one of the hundreds of already present online services such as .Mac/MobileMe if you're willing to pay the cost.
Remote Desktop is not a backup solution. Although the client is free the server application is not, so again to use it involves a cost. Letting clients backup to servers is probably not a good idea unless that's the business of the servers. Storage space on servers is usually at a premium, so letting clients backup to the servers would waste precious storage space.
You need to understand that TM is not a general, enterprise level, do everything backup solution. It is intended to provide the average user with a built-in backup solution for personal use. There already are other types of backup utilities capable of heavier duty backup needs.
