Service outage for iTunes U?

Hello all,
I've been modifying our iTunes U site quite heavily for most of the day. However, for the past 2 hours, I am unable to get iTunes U to respond.
The following is the error message I've been receiving:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-4).
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
I have tried logging out, quitting and restarting iTunes, and restarting my machine. It also does not work from a different machine on a different subnet.
Anyone else having problems today? Or know of a planned maintenance period I may have missed?
Thanks,
~David

It's been working for me today.
Try quitting iTunes and coming back in from the start.

  • Any free video hosting services meant for iTunes podcasts?

Any free video hosting services meant for iTunes podcasts? I have found free audio hosting ones for iTunes podcasts, but are there any videos ones? THANKS!

The best I found was after searching YouTube for, how to prepare a video podcast to submit to iTunes Directory.
Several instructional videos come up that are worth watching. The two I initially found are recommended are podbean.com and podomatic.com.
I tried podbean.com, which easily generated the RSS feed iTunes requires, which I was able to successfully copy into the iTunes store line on Submit a Podcast to the iTunes Directory. Podbean has many helpful instructions on how to use their site and submit your video to iTunes.
Since I wasted 3 weeks trying to understand https://discussions.apple.com/message/23110806#23110806, other apple.com insructions, searching the internet, calling senior advisors in Apple Care (none of whom knew or could read this apple.com page either) I was really happy just to find one way to be able to do it. And easily too.
The only way you can possibly get an answer from Apple is to email [email protected], the iTunes Store says, since there is no phone support. Then I was told to wait 10 working days for a reply.
Thank goodness I finally searched YouTube. (There were many other confusing and difficult instructions on the internet.)
After uploading small video files onto my new site at podbean.com, at least I got 3 short videos onto iTunes that show in my computer's iTunes podcast subscriptions and they downloaded successfully. I understand I must wait a few days to get an ID from iTunes directory, which will then list my videos to the pubic as available in ITunes.
Podbean.com does have up to 100 mb free web hosting. (No video can bemore than 30 mb.) But it does allow everything iTunes needs, including a cover photo and description. All future feeds will be automatiically seen by iTunes through the podbean url that was given you, that you pasted into iTunes when you first submitted your podcast. So you only have to do this once, I understand.
Podbean wants to entice you to purchase more space so they show various prices.
I'm still wondering if somehow I could link my existing youtube videos (or facebook, myspace, vimeo, Flickr duplicates) in a field somewhere and link to them. Maybe?
Now that I know to use a web host that generates all the xml and RSS feed behind the scenes (since I don't know how) I'll explore these options, and the other site, podomatic.com.
Let us know if there are other good, free ones for video.
(One YouTube video said mypodcast.com is good for mp3 audio podcasts, FYI.)

  • Service Pack for iTunes problems?

Does anyone know more about the $49 service pack Apple supposedly has for fixing iTunes 5+ install problems? Is it specific to iTunes, or is it an overall service pack for all known software issues? I am quite confused now by all of the fixes floating around in this discussion (although grateful for the fine assistance of various people) because I can't afford to lose any more functionality on my PC than I already have.
If a service pack does exist, shouldn't Apple provide this for free?
Too bad there isn't a computer products safety commission (like the Consumer Products Safety Commission). If there were, Apple would have to do a recall of this defective product that has harmed a lot of PCs.

Apple is not selling any sort of "service pack". Any charge you may get is for providing the technical support itself (support calls are not free unless you have a Mac that's either less than 90 days old or is under AppleCare), not for providing any patches. iTunes 5.01 has been released and is the only "patch" that I know of for iTunes 5, so if you're having problems with iTunes 5.0, try 5.01.

Can I get a resolution ticket going so this outage can get fixed?

This is primarily a customer-to-customer forum.  While VzW reps do respond to posts, a response isn't guaranteed and could be days after a post is left.  For faster service, assuming you have access to another phone, you may want to contact Customer Service.

  • What windows system services are needed for iTunes 12

I recently installed the update for iTunes on my PC.  Something happened near the end of the process:  a dialog box popped up telling me that some of the Windows services were missing from my computer.  I was given three (3) choices: cancel / retry / ignore.  I first tried retry and that didn't work, so I clicked on the ignore option and the installation finished.
Now, I think the missing Windows 7 (64-bit) service was the "Apple Mobile Device" Service.  Unfortunately, I failed to write down exactly what the dialog box said, so there could be other services missing from my computer.  And since I have no way to know when the service/s was/were lost a system restore will not work.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

You can only use the US store if you are in the US with a US billing address on your account - the US store's terms of use (and they will be similar for all countries) :
The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.

It sounds like you have tried to launch iTunes after a recent update due to this error message, and you cannot install iTunes after uninstalling. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you named:

  • I CAN NOT BELIEVE APPLE OFFERS NO PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ITUNES USERS!

I have been unable to access my purchased music on my new computer (the old one crashed before I could back up my purchased itunes music). I clicked "check for purchases," and received one of several television shows I purchased and NONE of the dozons of songs and albums. When I clicked "check for purchases" again, a box came up that said "all purchases have been downloaded for this account." Does Apple really not allow you to recover your purchased music in this situation? Does Apple really put profits ahead of customer satisfaction to the extent that they've eliminated phone customer service for itunes altogether? Well, I know the answer to the second question from research is yes. How sad. But can anyone help me with the first Q? Is all my purchased music really gone permanently? Thanks. -Matt

    Hi, Matt.
Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups.
That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to this policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/backup/
Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

Hello, Grigori, and welcome to the Discussions.
I would guess that you missed the information at the bottom of that page:
"iTunes U is a free service available to qualifying two- and four-year accredited, degree-granting, public or private colleges and universities in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. iTunes U is, I'm sorry to say, not available to Bulgarian institutions.
    Regards.

How do I verify that I have sufficient priviledges to start services for iTunes?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
