Will Nodeapps register the listener service of RAC database?
Hi Friends,
In 10g RAC will Nodeapps register the listener service of RAC database?
because if i bring down nodeapps the listenener is also going down
ora....C1.lsnr application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.gsd application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.ons application OFFLINE OFFLINE
ora.rac1.vip application OFFLINE OFFLINE
Regards,
DBHi,
This is expected behavior. The default listener (listener_nodename) could be starte and stopped with nodeapps.
srvctl listener is mainly for specific listeners that are other than default.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/whatsnew.htm#sthref6
If you create additional Listeners with non-default names, in other words, with names other than the name listener_nodename where nodename is the name of the node on which the Listener resides, then you must start and stop these Listeners with SRVCTL commands.

How to setup a HA service for RAC?
I have a RAC. It has 2 nodes: node1 and node2.
I want to setup a service and make this service only based on node1
only node1 is damaged, then this service will failover to node2
I checked related knowledge at internet. All the information is related to load balance, not for high available.
For example, below service is load balance:
srvctl add service -d HIC -s CMTLB -r 'HIC1' -a 'HIC2' -P PRECONNECT -e SELECT -x TRUE -j SHORT -B SERVICE_TIME -m BASIC -z 180 -w 5
Now I want to setup a high available service, how to do?
one more question, I should run "srvctl add service" by user "oracle" or "grid"?user8710670 wrote:
Thanks a lot for your information.
Yes, I think my command is good to setup a service.
But this service is a load balance service.
Through this service, all the connections will be put at both nodes.
Currently, my requirement is that I need a service
Through this service, all the connections will only be put at one node,
until this node damaged,
then the connections are put at another node
Do we have a way for this case?
Your service will not run on both nodes. It will run on one and failover to the other. However, a better way would be to define it as a policy manged service, which may be what you are thinking of. -
Load balancing for specific services in RAC
Hi,
I have a two node RAC database 11gR2 version.I am planning to create 2 services for the database. For one of the services I dont want to enable server side load balancing and for the other one I want to enable load balancing. Will the following setting work
services:
srv1 -- load balancing not to be enabled
srv2 -- load balancing to be enabled
DB configuration:
For srv1 I will not use SCAN ip and I will connect using the vip of the servers.
For srv2 I will use SCAN ip and i will set the remote_listener(to SCAN:port) parameter and local listener parameter accordingly.
Will this serve my purpose
Thanks
SekarIf the database is admin-managed, I shall suggest that rather than playing with the remote_listener parameter , set one service as preferred for one instance. For the other service, let it be preferred on both the nodes. The service with just one instance as Preferred won't be able to use loab-balancing as there is just one instance available for its disposal.

Hi all,
i hope is the correct subforum...
i'm having some trouble in demo machine given us by an hardware vendor.
environment is a 2 nodes RAC 11.1.0.7 on windows server 2008 (sic!)
installation successful of clusterware and database.
Application created successufully
i need to create some services and here start the mess...
when i try to creat service ADMIN i ask to modify tnsnames as well and this happens but when i try to connect user@service instead of user@SID i receive:
ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
so i tried to see if tensnames/sqlnet/listener were correct and all infos are ok but if i try to check listener status i just can see handles for database, instances and asm instances...
none of the services i registered is present...
i tried to reload, to stop and start listener...no news...
any suggestion??
thanks in advance ad sorry for my poor englishSurachart, i'm in windows 2k8 environment so grep doesn't work...
i did lsnrctl service and lsnrctl status check but both shows only global database name and single instances entry plus asm and _xpt and dispatcher...

Database native web services and RAC
The Readme in the database documentation library says :
Database native web services used in an Oracle RAC configuration are not supported.
Is this restriction still there for the latest release (the one which was just announced for windows)?
Why does this restriction exist? Any plans to change this in future releases?
What does "not supported" means? It simply doesn't work at all, or you can make it work, but Oracle Support won't help you if there are problems with it?Yes, unsupported means use at your own risk. Oracle hasn't "approved" what you are doing, so if you run into problems they will not be able to help you.

Hi Experts,
i need your guidance. actually we have oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) RAC running with three nodes on AIX6.1 64bit. and TAF service is not configured. problem is this, when one of three node get down due to any reason, say for maintainence. then client are still trying to connect with down node. and when they try to connect with down node then they face delay in connection. below is the service that is being used in client side.
orcl =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2_vip)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node3_vip)(PORT = 1521))
(LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
(FAILOVER_MODE =
(TYPE = SELECT)
(METHOD = BASIC)
(RETRIES = 180)
(DELAY = 5)
1- question is why client go to down node and face delay in connection.
2- we should configure TAF service to overcome this ? what is the function of TAF service if any recommended MOS or other doc is available please share it
regards,http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14212/advcfg.htm#sthref1280
On Metalink/MOS there's doc [ID 334471.1] amongst others, but just do a search on 'TAF' yourself and you'll find many articles. -

Evenly distribute services in RAC on node crash
Hi Everybody,
we have 4 node rac cluster.
Node 4 crashed. All the services on node 4 moved to node1.
how can I evenly distribute the services instead all services going to node1 ?
for example: i have 10 services on node 4. All went to node 1.
i want 3 on node1, 3 on node2, 4 node3 .
how can i achieve this?
ThanksHi,
you can achieve this, by specifying only some nodes for the services.
However this might restrict you if more than 1 server fails.
You could also use srvctl relocate service to relocate the services manually.
Last if all options are not to your liking, you can write a FAN Callout scripts, in which you can specify yourself, what should happen on a nodedown event.

Enable/DIsable Services in RAC Database using srvctl
Hello,
I am using Oracle Database 11g on a two node RAC. For the service management on the RAC I use srvctl and I have problems in understanding why the tool offers redundant information for some services.
To be more exact, let's say I have a two node RAC, one database called DB_NAME and one instance on each node called DB_NAME1 and DB_NAME2.
I create a service called DB_SRV using srvctl like this:
srvctl add service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -r DB_NAME1 -a DB_NAME2
Then I run srvctl config to see service parameters like this:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
So I can see that the the service DB_SRV is enabled by default, and I want to disable the service, like this:
srvctl disable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME1
After than I run srvctl config again:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So far,it all makes sense. The service is enabled to all the instances, but disabled for DB_NAME1 so this means the the service is enabled on DB_NAME2. All ok.
But then, I want to enable the service on DB_NAME2 (although it is already enabled there) and I run:
srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
After than I run srvctl config again:
srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
And I get the output:
Service name: DB_SRV
Service is enabled
Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So my real question is:
Why isn't oracle giving me an error when I run
srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
and instead adds this line (redundant, I would say)
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
in the srvctl config output?
Thank you in advance! So for me it seems redundant because if the service is enabled (this means it is enabled for every instance in the RAC), you shouldn't be able to enable it on one of that instance again.
So in my last output I think that this line:
Service is enabled
is equal to this line
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
If I am wrong, can someone point the difference between the two lines based on my scenario?

Oracle does only make a differentiation, if it has to be clear, that you got a clusterware home and a database home.

RAC: Service started not in the right instance
Hello,
I added today two instances (ACCMEAS3, ACCMEAS4) to a RAC databases (10gR2). The system has now 4 nodes. The new configuration of my service is:
$>-RAC>-ACCMEAS3:$ srvctl config service -d ACCMEAS
ACCMEAS_S PREF: ACCMEAS3 AVAIL: ACCMEAS4
$>-RAC>-ACCMEAS3:$srvctl status service -d ACCMEAS
Service ACCMEAS_S is running on instance(s) ACCMEAS3
This is the actual configuration in the CRS.
Nevertheless the ACCMEAS2 still has the service, despite I have bounced the instance:
(info from a listener):
Service "ACCMEAS_S" has 2 instance(s).
Instance "ACCMEAS2", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
Handler(s):

"DEDICATED" established:0 refused:0 state:ready
REMOTE SERVER
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=nodeb)(PORT=1574))
"DEDICATED" established:1639 refused:0 state:ready

The only way to avoid this is to put ACCMEAS2 down.
The service is configured TAF: Basic-Select, CLB_GOAL: LONG,GOAL:NONE
The connection string for info purpose:
datab=(

In the future we would like to have all instances as possible spares, that's why this definition in the tnsnames.ora.
What makes the service to get started on a instance not defined for?
Thanks for your help! The workaround I have found is to use dbms_service.stop_service. This stops the service on the instance 2 and makes everything coherent with the CRS.
