Setting listenPort, multicast address, etc. on command line
Weblogic version 6, Unix
I'm going to ask this question again, because it was apparently so hard, no
one could answer it. Is it possible to set the listenPort, cluster multicast
address, etc, on the command line? You could easily do this in version 5.1.
This is important because I have a set of start up scripts that I use that
select the listen port, cluster multicast address, etc. These scripts are
generic enough to allow multiple instances of weblogic. If this happens,
obviously the listen port, multicast address, etc. should not conflict. I
don't want to set these through the admin console.

I have j2sdk 1.4.2 i think the above link talks about methods supported by 1.5.Any other suggestions

How to reset the network IP address from terminal/command line in Mac OSX?
Do anyone knows how to set the network IP address from terminal/command line in Mac OS X?
how about a GUI, ever heard of a GUI? it's this really neat thing, where you don't have to worry about remembering long strings of text to do something. Mac OS X actually has a rather decent one (that was sarcasm by the way, Mac is the best) you could have it done in like 30 sec, if you use the network pane of system preferences.

Setting VMware vCenter Computing Resources from command line
Does anyone know how to set VMware vCenter Computing Resources from the command line? vda pool-setprops doesn't seem to include an option for it. Thanks.
This document was posted in Aug 23, 2012. It covers Mountain Lion but Lion server may be similar.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5359
OS X Server (Mountain Lion)-based servers that need to run high performance services can use the command line utility serverinfo to dedicate systems resources.
serverinfo --perfmode
Gets the current mode
serverinfo --setperfmode 1
Sets the high performance mode
serverinfo --setperfmode 0
Disables the high performance mode.
Note: Transitioning to or from high performance mode requires a restart. -
Is it possible to set BIOS settings over a command line?
Hi,
is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
We have hundreds of Toshiba Notebooks and would like to activate Wake On Lan.
I know there is hwsetup, but as far as I know this GUI doesn't accept parameters...
We would like to propagate new settings over a script.
Any solution for this ?
Thanx> is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
Something like that is not known to me and I doubt this could be possible.
As you said there is an preinstalled Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be used to change some certain BIOS settings. But this is only one way to change the BIOS settings from the Windows OS. -
How to Setup Multicast Address on Solaris 2.6 (Back to the well again)
Basic Cluster Query,
Several weeks ago, I was thrashing about trying to verify the syntax for setting
up a multicast address on Solaris 2.6 in preparation for implementing Weblogic
6.0 clustering. The command syntax was:
ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} plumb
ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} {multicast_address} up
The commands succeeded on the first and second servers without errors, but unbeknownst
to me there were errors reported on the second host concerning duplicate address.
The errors were:
unix: WARNING: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:a6:ed:0a'
trying to be our address 237.000.000.008!
The server halted today after several weeks; however, it is not clear whether
the multicast address caused the halt. Neither Weblogic nor Sun documentation
have been helpful. Can anyone provide guidance on setting up multicast address
on Solaris 2.6?
Bewildered,
Dan
Dan,
I don't think that BEA specifically takes any stand regarding the
configuration of operating systems. The problem is that the
administration of Unix machines and networking is a very complex and
sensitive subject for most companies (e.g., they have entire departments
dedicated to this) and BEA tries not to enforce any more configuration
specifications than it has to.
With regards to multicast, most newer versions of the major operating
systems (including Solaris) have support for multicast turned on "out of
the box". However, it is possible for your administrator to muck around
with your machine's network settings so that multicast does not work
properly or is disabled entirely. Most people in BEA support do not
know enough about low-level Unix TCP/IP administration to be able to
properly guide you to "configure multicast" if it is not working
properly. Even if they did, we wouldn't know what your administrator
might have done or why they did what they did so it is generally best to
get your Unix administrators involved because they really (should) have
the knowledge of the machine's configuration.
We do, however, provide a Java utility program called
utils.MulticastTest that can help you to determine whether or not
multicast is working correctly on your machine.
Hope this helps,
Robert

In the start up scripts for my cluster nodes, I set
weblogic.system.multicastAddress=224.1.1.100, the address setup by my IT
group.
When I start the cluster node, I see the following lines in the log:
Mon May 15 10:16:05 PDT 2000:<I> <System Props>
weblogic.system.multicastAddress = 224.1.1.100
. <other stuff>
Mon May 15 10:16:06 PDT 2000:<I> <WebLogicServer> Using default cluster
multicast address 237.0.0.1
Mon May 15 10:16:07 PDT 2000:<I> <WebLogicServer>
=========================================================
Mon May 15 10:16:07 PDT 2000:<I> <WebLogicServer> = Joined cluster
cluster_1 at address 237.0.0.1
Mon May 15 10:16:07 PDT 2000:<I> <WebLogicServer>
=========================================================
Why is weblogic joining the cluster at address 237.0.0.1 when I
specified 224.1.1.100?
In terms of the resulting behavior, jsp page requests to the proxy
server are passed to the single cluster node and a page is generated
without error. As soon as I add another cluster node to the cluster,
requests that form a new session never send a response. I suspect that
the cluster nodes are having trouble replicating the session.
Any help?
- Kevin
Thanks, this causes the nodes to join at the desired address.
I am still seeing, however, that the jsp pages I want work file when
there is one node in the cluster but hang forever when there are more
than one nodes. The MulticastTest utility runs successfully. Can you
suggest any other debugging options?

Set Static IP address on Mac clients
Hi,
I'm trying to change the IP address on a mac client at startup time to a different value and to be Static type. I need to do it via the command line. I've researched and found out that 'networksetup -setmanual ...' and 'ipconfig set en0 MANUAL ...' would do it, but the 'networksetup' command is not available unless I have ARD installed and 'ipconfig' is not recommended for use other than testing and debug.
Another option I was looking at is editing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist and then doing 'changeip ...' command.
Do you know if there are any other commands that will allow me to change an ip address via the command line, set it to Static/Manual and preferably do it without a reboot?
Thank youHi Sergey,
when I use static IP in my jwc_properties.ini it is never picked up, it still uses DHCP. The part where I have configured IP looks like this:
# Whether static configuration or DHCP server is used do get IP address. Possible values: dhcp,static
ip.method = static
# IP address,used with static IP configuration only
ip.addr = 10.143.144.97
# Network mask,used with static IP configuration only
ip.netmask = 255.255.252.0
# Network gateway,used with static IP configuration only
ip.gateway = 10.143.144.1
# DNS server,used with static IP configuration only
ip.dns =
# MAC address
mac.addr = -

Custom splash screen only shows up when command line is used...

Everything in my Java web start application works perfectly but, the custom splash screen only shows up when command line is used ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin>javaws -verbose http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp"), if I use the shortcut on the desktop or in the start menu, the Java 7 splash screen shows up (tested under Windows Vista and Seven). Does someone have any clues?

I made some researches :
- The link in the generated shorcuts ("C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe -localfile -J-Djnlp.application.href=http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp "C:\Users\Arnaud\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\46\69c1e9ee-1f252d1a") is not the same as the one I use in the command line ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin>javaws -verbose http://www.xxx.eu/AcSentVivresCrus/AcSentJnlp/AcSent.jnlp"). Is there a way in the the JNLP file to tell how to generate shortcuts (not the icon, etc., but command line options)?
- This sample (https://blogs.oracle.com/thejavatutorials/entry/changing_the_java_web_start) displays the splash screen when I click on the the generated shortcuts (I use Windows 7). I have copied the ButtonDemo jar file and the JNLP file on my IIS web server (Windows 2008 Server), this time the splash screen does not show up when I click the generated shortcuts but always shows up when I use the command line. Can someone tell me if it is a trouble with IIS ?
Thanks again... -
Hi everyone,
I want to set up my email composition with a default [email protected] address in the "Reply-to" field that is different from my ISP. How do I configure mail to set this default?
I have looked through the help and fail to see an option in the Preferences -> Compose window.
I am OK with UNIX Command line tasks if that is the only way to set this default.
Basically I have an alumni email redirection service, which is an address that never changes, even if I change ISP. That way all my friends can use it an never change. However, they tend to use whatever ISP address is, not what I have asked them to use.
I want to force emails I send to default to my alumni address when my friends reply, not my ISP address. I want control over this.Confused Once Again wrote:

Email preferences --> select Account --> Account Information tab --> Email address.
The Email address setting supplies the "from" mail address in a sent email for that account.
I been doing this for years (well in Eudora but it works in Mail too) since my return address is a mail forwarding service. That lets me switch ISP's and no one is ever the wiser. I just change the forwarding service "pointer" to point to my new ISP. But everyone else see sees the same "from" address as it's always been. -
I need to know the command line address for Downloads
I had a problem with an exe file in Downloads within Firefox and was not able to delete it. I finally got things working OK but would like to know the command line address (under Vista) for Downloads in FireFox.
I looked in 'Computer' but could not find the Downloads folder anywhere in Mozilla folders. Downloads under my 'user' was empty.
I resolved the problem, not quite sure what I did, but would still like to know this address for the next time I have to crawl under the hood and use MS DOS commands at a Safe Command Line environment.I am not sure what command line you are looking for. Do you want to know where Firefox downloads files? If that is the case, in the Tools menu select Option to open the Options dialog. Select the General panel, you can specify on that part of the options dialog where to download files.
Providing you have Firefox set up to remember download history (that is the default setting), you can open the download window (in the Tools menu select Download), then right-click on a file in the list and choose "Open Containing Folder" to be taken to where the file was downloaded. -
Setting proxy servers via the command line
I am looking to find out how to set up the system to use http and https proxies via the command line instead of through system preferences. How do I do this. I have basic command line knowledge.
This information is stored in a plist file and is easiest to manipulate with PlistBuddy. For example, to set the HTTP proxy name, use:
/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set NetworkServices:6CFBA910-E4A0-4418-82E5-66A6480EBC71:Proxies:HTTPProxy http://my.proxy.com" /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
Note: 6CFBA910-E4A0-4418-82E5-66A6480EBC71 is a UUID and likely to be unique on each machine. I don't have another Mac handy to check this. If so, you'll need to do some heavy to find out which one is the interface you need to address.
Try man PlistBuddy and/or a web search for more information on how this tool can be used.
Try man PlistBuddy or a web searc for more info on using it. -
