Setting password while connecting as sysdba

dear DBA experts,
how do we set password for sysdba while connecting to database.since we dont have password while connecting as sysdba.pls help me out...pls give me some steps ........

The password for the sys user is already set at the time of the database creation and is stored in the password file , available at the *$oracle_home/dbs* (on Linux) platforms. But this file is not used and is bypassed if the o/s user, mostly oracle , is a part of a group called dba group. So if you want the password file to be used, simplest would be to remove the user Oracle from the dba group.

Based on your description, this happens to a standard domain account, you don’t necessarily disable the UAC, instead, you can add the domain account to the local administrator group, in this way, you grant permission to this account, then log on with the
domain account again to check the result.

Error while connecting as sysdba

while login as sysdba getting an error as
SQL> conn / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.

actualy oracle is installed in server we are using the client version so is it possible to change Oracle_HOME and Oracle SIDAre you trying to login from the server itself or from some clients PC.
If from server then the oracle service is not started.to start the oracle service open cmd and
net start oracleserviceSID
If you are trying to login from a clients PC's then use
sys@tns_alias as sysdba ---> tns_alias is the alias name in the TNSNAMES.ora file

Hide Password - While connected to VGA or Airplay

iPads are great for displaying presentations, but logging into services while presenting is a security concern.
Since iOS was created, you have been able to see the user type their password on the keyboard and the last letter they have typed in the password field on a connected display or projector. You even can see when people type in pin codes. This is big security concern for us, since faculty have to login to services while they present in class. I'm surprised that these isn't a way to mask your passwords and pin codes while connected to VGA or airplay. It seems like common sense to me that if iPads are going to be seriously used for business and educational presentations, that this feature should at least be added to configurator.
Also, to those of you that think we should type faster, not everyone can type quickly on a touch screen. We see instructors slowly pecking in passwords and it's keeping us from recommending anything that requires a login. Touch ID sounds interesting but these iPads are shared with several faculty and are left in the classroom.
Does anyone else agree that we need this feature?

I agree completely. If Apple can override 3-rd party keyboards when passwords being entered then they could certainly also prevent the display of password characters when projecting from iOS. I have found myself disconnecting the VGA cable or using the projector remote to "blank" the screen when entering passwords. As presenting from iOS devices becomes more popular they should really address this.

Wrong User name or Password while connecting from SAP Business One - PL26

I have restored my database on the server.I am using Patch Level PL26
I am getting an error while logging to Server
Wrong username and password....Message [131-93]
Is it because i have not imported the Temporary Liscence.But when i work on my laptop, it doesnt give me an error with the same username and Password.
I have checked SAP B1 Suite Service Manager also......it is "ON".

Reason - I have been told that until and unless you import liscense, you cannot run Upgrader Common Setup.
Please if you can find out is this true ?
Is the problem coming because i have not run the Upgrader Common setup ?

Invalid Username / Password while connecting to a Wi-Fi network

Hi,
I cannot connect to the wi-fi network from the Hotel. On the first day it worked perfectly, today it didn't.
It is not a secured (WPA) wifi but after the connection, need to open the browser to enter login and password.
I have a laptop that is connected to the same wi-fi and it is working.
Checked several times login and password, tried to forget network and the reconnect, tried to turn the cell off and then turn it on.
Any suggestions?

When you are connecting through a hotels WiFi like this they may occasionally require you to login via a home web page, this is quite normal. In many cases the password for this will be provided at checkin and with this being the case it would be worth speaking with the front desk to see if they can assist you with this.

You may want to replace ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION keyword with just WALLET_LOCATION in your sqlnet.ora file.
EWL is used only for TDE but if you want to use external password store, you will have to use WALLET_LOCATION rather than ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION. However if you are going to use both TDE and external password respository, then make sure your sqlnet.ora file has both entries ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION as well as WALLET_LOCATION

You need to use the right arrow on the remote to go all the way to the right. The submit button will be highlighted and you can then press select on the remote to proceed.

Connecting as sysdba returns ORA-01017: invalid username/password

SQL Developer on my Win7 x64 Enterprise machine with Oracle 11gR2 Express was working fine until I tried to install the ODAC connectors so I could use Oracle as a data source for C# and VB in Visual Studio 2010.
The connection properties are:
Connection name "/ as sysdba"
Role "default"
Connection Type "basic"
OS Authentication checked
Hostname "localhost"
Port 1521
SID "orcl"
These are the same as when SQL Developer was working.
If I try to log on to SQL*Plus at the user-name prompt with "/ as sysdba", I get "insufficient privileges".
Where and what do I check to fix this?

But with Connection type Basic, I assume you would not be able to connect anyway.
Try type TNS to see if that works or changes anything. (That is, if corresponding db user exists for OS authentication.)
Do you have a requirement to use OS authentication? Could you instead use a database user with a password, i.e. uncheck OS Authentication in SQL Developer?
The connections in SQL Developer are the Auto-Generated Local Connections:
/ as sysdbaI've found a few quirks in SQL Developer 3.0.04 with the auto-generated connection named "/ as sysdba". But right now I don't see that its relevant to this case.
Just create your own connection instead. If you need sysdba administrative connection, change Role in connection properties.

I have connected with user name sys as sysdba in oracle 9i with password oracle.
I want to change the password . I typed password and pressed entered. It asks me to type old password, then new password and retype the new password. When I press enter it gives error message "ERROR:
ORA-28008: invalid old password"
Password unchanged.
does anyone know about this...? how to change the password..?

You may be using operating system authentication to log in as sys with sysdba privileges.
By using password utility, you can change the password of sys user (which is in database) which is "change_on_install" when you create a database.
You can change this password.

I am trying to connect to BI trouggh my application. I am following one of the document which i got from SDN. But now i am getting ERROR : Cannot get data set while connecting to BI. Can any one tell me why i am getting this error.
when i tried to excecute first time it gave the same error for the bellow given Querry. But after that it got excecuted. Then again It gave the same error. But it got excecuted twise like that after that it dint get excecuted once also.

This is the same experience I see with both my iPad and iPhone. Doesn't seem to cause battery drain, so I just don't worry about it. My bluetooth devices work and if yours do as well, just don't worry about it.
