Setting up and ODBC connection

I need to download the Oracle Client in order to setup an odbc connection to an oracle database.
I am not sure what the right product for me to download is. Can someone help me out?

What OS are you doing this on? Windows?
Either way, the instructions are telling you to set an environment variable, but the way you do that differes depending on the OS you are on.
If you are on Windows, bring up the control panel. Click the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Environment Variables" button.
Now you see all the environment variables already set for your system. If, in the System Variables section, there is already one called PATH, click on it and then click the "Edit" button. Now add the full path that you installed Instant Client on into that list. If there isn't a PATH variable already defiend, create one with the same wizard I just mentioned.
Justin is correct. For ODBC, you need the basic Instant Client, and then another download in the same are which is for ODBC. Unzip the contents of both into some other directory and that is the directory to put in the PATH variable.

  • CR 2008 and ODBC connection using Oracle Instant Client driver?

    Two questions.
    I'm creating CR 2008 report using an ODBC connection. The ODBC driver is the Oracle Instant Client (version 10.2, I think.)
    When I define the connection, I see only a few tables. I do not see the Tables, Views, Qualifiers tree that I see with a normal Oracle Server connection.
    Does anybody know why this happens? Is there a CR ODBC driver that works better?
    Second question:  I have a .NET application that is pointing the report to another Oracle DB. In my db, table names are not unique -- each user has the same set of tables. I find that when the .net applciation sets the datasource, I get connected to the first table with a given name; I do not get the table scoped by the logon user.
    In the .net application, how do I scope the table name to a particular user.
    Any info helps. Thanks.
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    Below are the replies to your questions:
    Answer 1: Please try the below steps:
    - Make sure that in File->Options->Database Tab in the Data Explorer section the corresponding checkboxes are checked for tables, views,system tables,synonyms and stored procedures and the Table name LIKE and Owner LIKE boxes are blank.
    - Please try with OLEDB connection and check the results.
    - You can also refer to this SAP note no# 1215994, the link to which is given below:
    [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361706E6F7465735F6E756D6265723D3132313539393426]
    Answer 2: If you are using RAS SDK only then you would be able to change table name. Please let us know if you are using RAS.
       If you are using RAS with Java please post your query in the Java forum else if you are using Visual Studio/.NET then please post your question in .NET Forum.
    Please update with the results.

  • 64 bit windows and odbc connection

    I am new to the forum, so please bear with me. We have developers that have to run in Win 7 64 bit. I have installed Crystal Reports 12 on three systems. I used the c:\windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe to set up the ODBC. BTW, this is an Intersystems Cache 32 bit driver. The connectivity tests ok from the Data Source Administrator. When I open Crystal Reports and go to Logon Log off server, it does not see the connection at all. If I try to run a report, it does not see the connection.
    The kicker is, I got it run on one system, but not the other two. They are setup identically. I suspect that I tried so many different things to get it to work, that I lost my way. I do remember doing something with the registry on the one that finally worked
    I have tried 64 bit drivers from Intersystems and 32 bit. It was the 32 bit driver that finally worked on one system. It could be something in the registry, but I sure canu2019t find it!
    I have been through dozens of posts and all over the Internet looking for a solution. Everybody says to use c:\windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. Apparently, that's only part of the story.
    We use Crystal Reports a lot and I need to get this resolved. I appreciate any help you guys can give! Thanks, Beckyc

    Hi Beckyc,
    Start off with this [Module |https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip]utility, you can compare the list files from the one working PC against the none working ones.
    Did you create the DSN under the System Tab? If not try that.
    Then compare PATH statement between the 2 PC's. Not sure if the Client needs it specified or not.
    If that fails then Download Process Monitor from Microsoft and then compare log files for the database DSN.
    And then you can enable ODBC Tracing, it may tell you also.
    If CR can't see the DSN it's somethign in the environment causing the problems.
    Have you contacted Intersystems Cache to see if they can explain it?

  • Setting up an ODBC Connection

    Hi All,
    This is the tnsnames.ora file
    pppa.world = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = tcp.world) (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = host2)(Port = 1531)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = pppa)))
    Can someone help me with setting up the ODBC from Microsoft?
    Should I use the Drivers I downloaded off of Oracle 7.0 or Microsoft's Oracle drivers when setting
    up the dsn?
    I'm also not sure If I have SQL*.net installed on this computer do I need it if so, where can I get it?
    When setting up the ODBC, It prompts me for a SQL*.net connect string? where can I find that?
    Also which user ID should I use the Oracle Database or the Server's?
    I have a password to get into the server and a system's password to get onto Oracle, which one should I use.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Will

    Should I use the Drivers I downloaded off of Oracle 7.0 or Microsoft's Oracle drivers when setting
    up the dsn?Either should work, and the setup is going to be pretty similar.
    I'm also not sure If I have SQL*.net installed on this computer do I need it if so, where can I get it?If you have the Oracle client installed, you have SQL*Net-- this is just the component of the Oracle stack that actually puts the data on the wire.
    When setting up the ODBC, It prompts me for a SQL*.net connect string? where can I find that?I'm not sure which dialog you're referring to-- I don't see that text when I'm looking at the DSN creation screen for either driver. I assume they're looking for the TNS Name you have above (i.e. <foo>.world = ..., your TNS name is either <foo> or <foo>.world-- either should work)
    Also which user ID should I use the Oracle Database or the Server's?I'm not sure what you're asking here. You want to enter the user ID that the driver should use when you connect through this DSN (generally, you can leave this field blank and get a logon screen whenever you connect).
    If by "Oracle Database user ID", you mean the sys, system, or other superuser ID for the database, you probably don't want to use that. If you are asking whether to use your Oracle user name or your Windows user name, use your Oracle user name.
    I have a password to get into the server and a system's password to get onto Oracle, which one should I use.The same as with the user name, it depends on exactly what you mean here. If "get into the system" means "log on to Windows", use the password to get into Oracle. If "get into the system" means getting DBA access to the database, don't use the system password, use a regular user password ('system' is the user ID of the superuser in Oracle).

  • Windows 7 64 bit and ODBC connect to Sql data source

    Hi
    Just porting a simple test form over to new laptop with windows 7 64 bit and my odbc connect strings are not working properly.
    They seem to work with Microsoft access, but not livecycle designer.
    I tried the 32 bit ODBC drivers, and at least I can see the first record, but now I get an error when I try and execute a drop down to select a different record.
    Looking at the forum history, a lot of Windows 7 issues but did not see one for ODBC connections....
    Anyone have ODBC working on a Win 7 64 bit system?
    Do they work?
    Do the 32 bit drivers work?

    I believe that the 64 bit drivers are NOT working
    the 32 bit drivers are working.- have them working now!

  • Beginners Assistance with StarOffice and ODBC connections

    Hello,
    I apologize before hand for this VERY newbie question.
    One of the last hurdles to overcome in our company to deploying StarOffice, is the use of MANY refreshable Excel files that pull data from SQL servers. How do I get StarOffice to use these ODBC connections? I have tried creating a new database file, but this does not point me to the correct database on the SQL server. I really could use some help, or handholding, through this process.
    Thank you

    Hi Paul
    I am trying to get the 32 bit drives to work connected to a SQL remote database and I get the following error
    GeneralError:Operation failed.......Index is out of bounds
    I am using a simple script to clone the datasource so a drop down can bring up the other row values
    The lines that it is failing on is
    while (xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex).name != "DataConnection2"){ nIndex
    ++; }
    worked fine in Vista, but not windows 7 (using 32 bit drivers)
    Any suggestions?

  • OCA and ODBC connections

    I am trying to use Oracle Forms 6 to connect to an Access Database and an AS400 system.
    Being some what new to Oracle I have no idea how to overcome this problem, when trying to connect to an ODBC data source through SQL *Plus:
    ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
    ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
    ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
    Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
    Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
    You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
    Server not available or version too low for this feature
    ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
    Connected to:
    Oracle Open Client Adapter for ODBC 6.0.5.29.0
    ACCESS 03.50.0000
    Although it does connect via SQL *Plus, connecting with Oracle forms is a different matter! Form Builder brings up possibly the most unhelpful error message I have ever seen, it alerts me the following:  F!G!G or sometimes simply: !G though sometimes it alerts random 'E's and 8's occasionally. Form builder then crashes and will not allow me to even connect to my Oracle Database. I have done everything by the book (oracle white paper oca_info.pdf) so I have no idea why this problem could be occuring.
    Any help you could give me would be gratefully recieved, well to be honest it would be a god send! If I dont overcome this problem I will manually have to transfer thousands of records! Thank you in advance
    Kind Regards
    Richard Clayton

    Hi !
    Do you know where can I find the OCA-6.0.5.35.0 version or higher ?
    I downloaded the Oracle Forms&Reports 6i from Oracle site and even now (January 2003) it still includes in the package the OCA-6.0.5.29.0 which has a bug when accessing ODBC data sources.
    Thanks in advance !

  • P67A-GD65 new system bios setting recommendations and sata connections

    Hey all,
    My old dual core HTPC (after many hours of use) finally gave up the ghost and moved on to the great PC grave yard . I have ordered all the new upgrade parts from Newegg and am looking for recommendations on what bios settings and setup procedures I should use on the initial bootup and Windows load. I'm not looking to overclock I just want a fast stable system for video decoding and playback. It's my understanding from the manual that SATA 1-2 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and 7-8 are controlled by the Marvell chip but I am unsure of SATA 3-6. Can SATA 3-6 do raid 0? I want to use the Crucial SSD as my primary boot drive and the 2 WD drives on raid 0 as my secondary drive. SATA connection advice (which SATA ports) and Raid Bios setting would be helpful. Should I install the raid 0 drives after I have Windows 7 loaded on the SSD? Any other setup advice is appreciated.
    Here is my setup.
    Windows 7 64bit
    Bach HTPC case
    Ultra LSP 750Pro PSU
    Intel i5-2500 3.3G CPU
    MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard
    Sapphire HD5570 1G RT Video Card
    Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 SSD 6.0Gb/s SATAIII (Primary boot drive)
    2 WD3200KS Hard Drives SATA 3.0Gb/s (Raid 0)
    Lite-on 12X Blu-Ray Burner SATA
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

    Two questions answered. SATA 3-6 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and do support Raid 0 but I still wonder if I should wait to install the drives until Windows has finished it's install.
    SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
    - Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 PCH
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128
    - SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 mode by Intel P67 PCH
    - SATA7~8 ports support RAID 0/1 mode by Marvell SE9128

    But when more port will be active by expansion module  then UCSM can manage that too or need any other licence  for UCSM too?

  • MS SQL Server ODBC Connection On Linux

    Hi All,
    I am badly stuck with configuration of MS SQL Server ODBC connection on SUSE Linux 10. I am almost tried everything I got from SAP notes but still getting ODBC Lib Data Direct drivers could not be loaded IES 10901.
    ENV: SAP BO 4.0 SP7, MS SQL SRV 2008
    Here is what I have tried so far:
    1) Modified env.sh under /install_dir/sap_bobj/setup and added the line in bold.
    ":${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib:${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/$SOFTWAREPATH32/odbc/lib"
    The line should look like this

    2) We have .odbc.ini file in the home directory of our BO user on linux. Added following DSN entry (Same DSN is created on client and odbc connection has been created on the universe using this DSN:
    boeadm01:~> vi .odbc.ini
    [DSN_NAME]
    Driver=/opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib/CRsqls24.so

    HostName=SQL Server Hostname
    Database=SQL DB Name
    QuotedId=Yes
    AnsiNPW=No
    3) We then added the environment variables and LIBPATH in BO user .profile file.
    boeadm01:~> vi .profile
    #Sql Server Environment
    ODBCINI=$HOME/.odbc.ini
    export ODBCINI
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib

    boeadm01:~> echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    /opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib
    5) Modified sqlsrv.sbo under /install_dir/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/dataAccess/connectionServer/odbc

  • Issues while readin SQL server via ODBC connection

    Hi Experts,
    I havea SQL server db as a source. I have configured the Datastore using ODBC connection. Developed a job which simply reads a table and populates into a flat file. when we run the job, it doesnt show any progress, it just stops after a log message "initializing data store, processing job" . I looked at the job logs file on the Job server, its incomplete as well.
    One thing is that, im able to see the data when i go under data store and view data option for that particular table.  My other jobs works just fine with oracle data base sources. We restarted the BODS server as well, but it doesnt  help. Any idea on what might be going on ?.
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Narayanan

    Hi Narayanan ,
    There are two steps:
    1) Set up the ODBC connection correctly on your Linux server
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/EIM/ToconfigureDataDirectODBConLinuxand+Unix
    (test with isql command line if connection on that server to the SQL Server is working)
    2) Select ODBC connection in the datastore and then put the name of the connection you defined. (do not choose Database - SQL Server)
