Settings Randomly Change (i.e. SMTP Enable is now unselected)

Has anyone ever experienced this?
Basically, all is fine, things have been working for months, then suddenly something happens where a service doesn't restart properly.
You investigate and a setting is turned off.
This is the fourth time now this has happened, specifically to SMTP Enable option in Mail settings. (Obviously mail won't restart, until I go in manually and click that option to be enabled).
This morning it happened to me again during a mailbfr backup, the service was stopped, then never restarted. Just said "Mail server is down" over and over again. Looked and the "SMTP Enabled" option was unselected. Selected it, and all was well again.
I looked at the logs and nothing seemed really out of place except maybe the following ...
Apr 3 02:00:03 ns1 postfix/master[80787]: terminating on signal 15
Apr 3 02:00:03 ns1 postfix/postfix-script[32737]: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running

Apr 3 04:09:00 ns1 postfix/postqueue[35537]: warning: Mail system is down -- accessing queue directly
Is this root email thing something from the server to itself or just coincidence or a hacker or what?
Anyways, I'm really curious if others have experienced settings just changing themselves on their own ever.
Feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, I tried that, tough to know if it works though because it's really a problem that isn't reproducible. Just seems to happen once every few months.
I actually removed this file back when I had some DNS issues with Server Admin. I added a DNS entry, and when I clicked on save, all of my DNS entries disappeared. Suddenly, nothing worked. It deleted all of my DNS entries. Was very scary, but in the process of repairing my server I removed the plist file. So I've actually removed the file once prior.
Again, afterwards, all things seem normal, and stay normal; but then suddenly, a backup occurs or I change a setting in Server Admin and Server Admin modifies something it shouldn't be (or a setting is lost somewhere).
I figured at first it was a bug, so I've been waiting for these issues to ... well go away I guess (with the constant updating of my Server Tools from Apple with each OS X Server Update. But seems like these things are still occurring. Last time this happened for me was back on OS X Server 10.5.4. It's been good up until about a week ago.
Thank you for the advice though Pterobyte. Have you ever ran across this before yourself? Does Server Admin actually just get out of sync every once in a while? Not a big deal if it does I suppose, but it's a real shame to have to baby a server.
Client: Our mail server is down!
Me: Oh yeah, that's just Apple losing it's settings... :/

  • Why do the recording settings in GarageBand 10.0.3 randomly change if I delete the track?

When I choose the "Narrator" setting to record voice only, and then decide to delete that track and record a different one - it randomly changes the setting from "Narrator" to "Bright Voice" or some other category. Sometimes the Narrator setting disappears altogether and is not even a choice. Also - sometimes there is no sound recorded on the tracks, even after it was just working fine and I did not change any settings. Other times, the mic is cutting in and out on the recording, making it unusable. I am using it on a MacBook Pro (late 2008 - 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) with OS X Yosemite 10.10. Are there bugs in the software, or is my MacBook too old?

  • Contacts randomly changed to blocked caller

I have recently had two of my contacts randomly changed to blocked callers.  I have not changed this in their contact settings.  Any thoughts?

I would only enable your enterprise server on you Mac and other devices.  I would turn off contacts in iCloud.  Icloud will show duplicate contacts.   The way I got rid of is only using enterprise.
    This should work.

  • IPhone 5c ..The Time keeps randomly changing.

My Iphone 5c shows an incorrect time, i tried a few things including resetting the phone. I have changed the time manually but after an hour or so the time just randomly changes. This is very frustrating and makes the phone useless to use as an alarm clock. I am sure it has to be a software issues but have tried syncing and like i said i have even done a hard reset but all to no avail!...Please help..is driving me mad.
    iPhone 5c, iOS 8
IPhone 5c keeps showing incorrect times.

    Hello LaylaAlHajeri,
It sounds like you the time is acting unexpectedly on your iPhone. I recommend starting by closing all the open apps on your device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If it persists, I would next try the steps in the article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting issues with date and time
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3920
Follow these steps. Test after each step to see if the issue is resolved.
Ensure that the version of iOS on your device is up to date.
If the option to enable date and time automatically is available, turn it on. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Ensure that your time zone is set up correctly. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.
If the incorrect date, time, or time zone is being set up automatically on the device, please notify your cellular provider. In the meantime, tap General > Date & Time and turn off Set Automatically. Then set the appropriate time and time zone manually.
Note: The option to set automatically might not be available on all carriers in all countries.
    Additional Information
Note: If you find that your device's time is incorrect after you sync with your computer, your computer's time may be incorrect. Verify the computer's time in System Preferences > Date & Time (you may want to select the checkbox to set the computer's date and time automatically).
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == 2 days ago.

See also this article about caret browsing: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Scrolling_with_arrow_keys_no_longer_works
In Firefox 3.6 and later versions you can disable the F7 shortcut that toggles caret browsing by setting the pref accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled to false.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Gnome reverting settings randomly.

I having this weird problem. It seems that Gnome reverts to standard settings randomly. It does this randomly when I login, touch a program, etc. Sometimes it can go for hours w/o switching settings. I think its a problem with the gnome-settings-daemon crashing or not starting up.

Same problem here. gnome-settings-daemon does not start up, so I have to manually launch it every time this happens (by right-mouse -> change desktop background).
edit: my gnome starts first with openbox, then switches to compiz... Sometimes it pops an error saying things like some stuff is occupied by another process so gnome-settings-daemon can't (sorry didn't really pay attention to whats in there.. ) Not sure if this is related though

  • Why did my iPhone (not PCs) suddenly require a change in POP/SMTP server spec's for one (only one) of my email accounts?

Hello! Why has my (iPhone only) POP and SMTP settings suddenly changed for one (oddly only one) of my email sub-accounts? -It changed from "incoming.verizon.net" and "outgoing.verizon.net" to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net, respectively, ALL BY ITSELF!?
For example, I have had two verizon email accounts on my iPhone for some time, each originally set up with the default "incoming.verizon.net" and "outgoing.verizon.net" for receive/sending email.  Suddenly, without my changing anything in my settings, my "[account-1]" account would not work via iPhone (yet still worked via desktop PC)- it was not until I completely deleted the "[account-1]" account from my iPhone and recreated it that it would work, HOWEVER, iPhone AUTO-creation process for this POP account settings now picked up "pop.verizon.net" and smtp.verizon.net" instead of the previous standard "incoming.verizon.net" and "outgoing.verizon.net" settings.  (Yet "incoming.verizon.net" and "outgoing.verizon.net" is still necessary for all other verizon accounts, as well as for my "[account-1]" on desktop PCs)  Has someone, for example, affected (illegally...?) a redirection of my "[account-1]" mail through other servers...?  NOTE: ALL my acocunts have been using the incoming 995 and outgoing 465 ports for some time without problems until this issue started a couple days ago.

  • Syncing iphone: Itunes says settings have changed, asks if i want to apply these changes, but no changes have been made?

Itunes 11.3, but this has happened for quite a while, several versions at least. Iphone 5, Ipad 2, this happens with both devices. I sync locally to my macbook pro (late 2011 version, running 10.9.4), using a wired connection.
I will have the 2 devices hooked up via the factory supplied cords. Doesn't actually matter if it's both or just one device. If I have, for instance, the iphone selected via the sidebar, and am displaying the Summary tab, normally you have a sync button to the lower right. Quite often, this will randomly change to two buttons, - Apply, Don't apply, as if I have made settings changes or something, although I haven't. No changes have been made. If I select a different device in the sidebar of itunes, a pop up will open asking me if I want to apply the changes? I say no, all is good. BUT - it's annoying!
Is there any way to make this stop?

No-one? Am I the only one? I doubt it...

  • Settings have changed

About a week ago I noticed that my display was acting weird and changing the settings at a random rate. Recently I found out that the setting had been changed. So, I started to check around and found that the loggin items had all been deleted and that other settings had changed.
Now I am finding that I can't access some web pages that I have been visiting for a long time. I reset the Safari settings to no avail.
What the heck am I doing wrong here.

No, no changes in the name of the home folder.

  • Warning: Full-text change tracking is currently enabled for table or indexed view 'fim.ObjectValueString'

    Hi,
As per the FIM best practice guide, we are trying to disable full-text indexing on the FIM Service database, during the initial load using:
ALTER FULLTEXT INDEX ON [fim].[ObjectValueString] SET CHANGE_TRACKING = MANUAL
ALTER FULLTEXT INDEX ON [fim].[ObjectValueXml] SET CHANGE_TRACKING = MANUAL
However, we get the following warning:
Warning: Full-text change tracking is currently enabled for table or indexed view 'fim.ObjectValueString'
Does anyone know how we can solve this?

    <Going through old threads>
This doesn't disable change tracking it merely sets it to manual.

  • Changing verizon primary smtp server??

    hi,
i'd like to change the primary smtp server for my verizon email.
    it's currently set to : outgoing.verizon.net
and according to a recent email from verizon, i should change it to|
    smtp.verizon.net
(all the other info doesn't change (passwords, ports, etc)
if i tweak the primary smtp server and change the hostname from 'outgoing' to 'smtp'
then hit 'done', the settings app crashes and doesn't update the settings.
any help would be appreciated, since i can currently recieve mail, but can't reply on that account!

    iphone 5/ios 6.1.3

This probably means that your mail app data are corrupted. First, try resetting the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. The try to change the setting again. If it still fails, delete the Verizon account, Reset the phone again, and add the account back.

  • What Apps and Settings to Change to Maximize Battery Life

Hello - I have been reading many threads on different forums on ways to maximize battery life.  Can someone provide a concise listing (such as what settings to change or which apps to install) to maximize the battery? Also didn't the latest update from Verizon say that it would make better use of the battery?
This way we could have all the steps in one place to make reference to.
    Thanks!  Marvin

i'll just give you my setings/options/details, as i believe i get as much out of the battery as i can get. fyi....i use the stock battery that came with the phone.
-i use NO battery saving apps (juice defender, etc). While they may help some, i just don't see the need for them.
-I use no app killer and don't try to "manage" the apps running in the background. i believe they do no good. i know others will disagree.
-my screen timeout is 30 seconds
-my screen display is 35% (i increase it sometimes during the day or outside to see better)
-i leave it on 3g for the most part. i turn on wifi if it's available and i'm going to be using data. i put it on LTE if i'm going to be streaming or downloading large files.
-i don't sync facebook, stock, or news. i sync email every 15 minutes, weather every 3 hours, and google is set to sync (docs, contacts, gmail, and calendar) although i don't know how often it does it? i also syn backup assistant every night.
-i have standalone gps and google location services on all of the time.
-i have the power saver enabled and is set to activate when i get to 15%
i use my device moderately. i hop on facebook, text a bit, make a few calls, download and play podcasts, and browse a bit during the day. i can get through a full day with one full charge on an average day. this entails about 2.5-3 hours of actual use and at least another 12-15 hours of idle time. on a good day i will get 20+ hours of idle time. the more i actually use it, the less idle time i will get. here's a screenshot of yesterday's stats. the "uptime" is the time i actually used the device (calls, apps, texts, etc). the "real uptime" is the amount of time that the device had been turned on since i unplugged it from the charger. i "bump charge" it daily. this is fully charging it (while the phone is on)....then turning it off and plugging it back in again. the light goes back to orange for another 10 minutes, and then goes green. so my phone is turned off every day, for about 10 minutes.
edit: i forgot to mention that i'm in an extremely solid network all day and this will have A LOT to do with your battery life. if your in a poor coverage area, your phone will struggle to get and hold a signal and that will strain the battery....and there's really nothing to do about that, short of moving...lol. but if live in a pretty good network area, then you can get a full day off of one charge (unless you're using it half the time your awake.....in which case no phone is going to help ya out..lol).
    hope this helps.

  • Boot Drive Randomly Changed in BIOS

The PC will randomly change boot drives to some other drive, be it internal or USB attached.  I thought it was my boot drive, but I recently changed it and for about a week things seemed fine.  This morning, it switched to my BD_DVD drive, and when I switched it back, it reset itself back to the DVD drive.  I reset again and this time it worked.
    OS is Win 8.1

Second drive (though listed as first in BIOS) is 3TB with no OS files on it
