Several JVMs in one server

Hi all,
In our test environment, we need to deploy our application several times to
run on several db.
If we create several server (ex : weblogic/myserver1 and weblogic/myserver2)
do they will use the same jvm?
If yes, is there a way to run them in several JVMs ?
Thanks in advance,
Cedric

Each weblogic runs in its own JVM. We have run dozens before on Sun
development boxes. Just make sure they do not try to attach to the same
port. ;-)

  • Several instances in one server from test purposes

    Hello,
I would like to ask for your experience when dealing with installation of several software packages in one server.
I'm not sure of my host specs (I deal more with software), just that it's an IBM something (I pray for multi processor but lets assume not) with lets assume at least 8 GB of RAM, and I would like to install SAP Netweaver 2004s (PI + EP mainly), CRM 2005 and SRM 5.0.
Do you think this is possible, assuming the maximum number of people logged in at the same time in any of the applications would be 3?

    Hi Joao,
You can install several different systems in the same box as long as you manage to configure memory and resourses to feed all those systems requirements. I have seen 4 J2EE engines in the same box and in another ocassion i saw 3 systems sharing a box with 4 Gigs of RAM, so I'm sure you can! Try to configure as less resouses as posible per system.
    Hope this help

  • Multiple JVM in one server

    Hi,
Can we run multiple JVM's on one Solaris server with different applications configured for different JVM's or may be configure a memory intensive application to multiple JVM's.
Please let me know if this works and if there is any documentation for this.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Several JVMs installed in one PC

    Hello,
there is any problem installing several JVMs in one PC??

there is any problem installing several JVMs in one PC??As previously stated, no problem.
But, your browser only uses one of them at a time, and this is selectable in the Java Control Panel.
Say if I install JRE 1.5 and then 1.4 on top of it if I then lunch the applet with the string above JRE 1.5 gets to run. Isn't it wierd? No, not weird. See this document. It has information about enabling earlier versions of the Java Plug-in when using the Java 5 Control Panel.

  • Several JVM s with RMI?

    Hi,
As you can guess, my Java program needs more and more memory as users connections grow.
We are of course trying to optimize the way it’s running but looks like we will anyway soon need to increase ressources of our JVM.
We first thought to increase memory heap but there is a limit, on any 32 bit system 4Go seems the theoretical maximum ram size. And we have to keep a 32 bit JVM, can’t change this.
Here is our next idea: we would like to run our program on several JVMs.
Two options came then, and so here are my question: (maybe irrelevant for experts but I am a beginner regarding distributed architecture, so feel free to give me some reference to learn about it…)
-First option: several 32 bit JVMs running together on one 64bits machine
Is it possible to run several 32 bit JVM (jre 1.5) on a windows (or linux) 64 bits machine? So that we could ‘share’ the system (big) ram between each of them.
Is there, in this case, a limit for the memory heap per JVM?
What would be in this case the best way to communicate between jvms (I m thinking about RMI, but is it the only way to?)
-Second option: run several 32bits JVM on several 32 bits machine.
    Questions are the same here:
is it possible? I guess so, and would it be worse or better from a performance/learning time point of view, compare to option 1?
Is RMI the best way here to make the several jvm communicate?
Hope this is clear, english is not my first language so feel free to ask me any precision…
Thank you very much for any help or reference.
    Jipe

Multiple JVMs dont have any inherent special behavior on the same maching. However, you must consider the shared resources of that machine such as ports and files that may be contended for.
The only advantage of multiple JVMs of single JVMs is an OS one. The JVMs are separate processes and as such if one crashes it will not bring the other down.
If you want to transfer user sessions from one JVM to another, no matter if on the same computer or not, you will need an architecture to support this. That is where application servers come in. Some of them will allow you to do this. So if you design your product to run in an application server, you have a lot of room to expand. That is really the benefit of designing for an application server.
The details of a shared session are likely very complicated. You will have to ask the application server folks about that. Maybe go over to the JBoss forums.

  • CCMS configuration question - more than one sapccmsr agent on one server

    Hello all,
this might be a newbie question, please excuse:
We have several SAP systems installed on AIX in several LPARs. SAP aplication server and SAP database is always located in different LPARs, but one LPAR can share application server of several SAP systems or databases of several SAP systems.
So I want to configure SAPOSCOL and CCMS-Agents (sapccmsr) on our databse LPARS. SAPOSCOL is running - no problem so far. Due to the circumstance that we have DBs for SAP systems with kernel 4.6d, 6.40 (nw2004), 7.00 (nw2004s) I want to use two different CCMS-Agents (Version 6.40 non-unicode to connect to SAP 4.6d and 6.40 + Version 7.00 unicode to connect to SAP 7.00).
AFAIK only one of these can use shared memory segment #99 (default) - the other one has to be configured to use another one (e.g. #98) but I don't know how (could'nt find any hints on OSS + Online Help + CCMs-Agent manual).
    Any help would be appreciated
    regards
    Christian

    Hello,
has really no one ever had this kind of problem? Do you all use either one (e.g. windows) server for one application (e.g. SAP application or database) or the same server for application and database? Or don't you use virtual hostnames (aliases) for your servers, so that in all mentioned cases one CCMS-Agent on one server would fit your requirements? I could hardly believe that!
    kind regards

  • Oracle db Migration from one server to another

Can any body guide me why companies migrate Oracle db from one server to another , & what is the process for doing that?

In that case, something has changed, right? The need to have a standby server has become important.
    Next steps:
    - define the real business requirements (why do we think we want to spend money on a spare server? why should the money go to a hardware company, instead of an increase in my salary? what benefit are they looking for?)
    - see whether any known ideas or alternatives fit the requirements, see whether the backup should be a standby server, a hot failover server, or some other backup mode;
    - go to the Oracle Technet site, look under the Product Centers: Database area to see whether there are any related topics (such as 'availability', as one of the logical reasons for a backup is to make the application more avaliable); check in that area for any white papers; read the white papers to formulate an idea, write down interesting keywords;
    - look in the Oracle docuentation, list of books, to see whether there are any books specifically dealing with that topic (such as Oracle Data Guard);
    - use Google to search for the combination of 'Oracle backup' and the interesting keyword and study several of the sites;
    - form a basic plan;
    - go to expert and trusted sources (these forums, OraFaq.com), post a plan and ask for feedback.
There are literally dozens of alternatives. Research and find the one(s) that are right for your situation. That includes the technical as well as the financial reasons.
More than anything, that means you need to learn to ask the right question. And that often means asking the same question several different ways, and attempting to answer each variation yourself to see how the answer solves your specific needs.

  • Migration databases from one server to another

    Hi All
I want to migrate our 8 production databases from one server to another server. these are in RAC .Details are below
    OLD SERVER: -
    OS: REDHAT LINUX 3
    ORACLE: ORACLE 10gR1
    FILE SYSTEM : OCFS
    STORAGE: SAN
    Its a RAC databases
    NEW SERVER: -
    OS: REDHAT LINUX 5
    ORACLE: ORACLE 11g R2
    FILE SYSTEM:ASM
    STORAGE:SAN ( fresh one)
    Its also RAC DATABASES
So please tell me the best method to migrate 8 databases from old server to another server . all databases size are not more than 50 GB.
All servers details are above .please let me know if you require any other details
please reply soon we have to do it on urgent basis

Since all your databases are small (< 50G), I would recommend using expdp/impdp - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17222/expimp.htm - as this will provide several advantages as listed in the document.

  • Multiple JVMs on same server.

I have two JVMs on same server. Both JVMs are has been associated with different and independent applications. There were some errors reported by one JVMs. My question is
Is error reported from one JVMs could affect the another JVM/Application? If yes then what types of effect will be reported by other JVM or Application?
    Thanks, Manoj

Recent Java versions employ "Class Data Sharing", which under some circumstances might propagate file corruption from one to the other. See

  • How move apex from one server to another

    Hi All,
I am just a beginner who has just started with APEX. Its strange but even though I am just a beginner I was given a task to move the current whole apex system from one server to another.
Can any one help what the steps do I need to follow to do this?
I also need to setup backup server to this new server so that in case this new server goes down, the backup one can be made productional.
I think I should move apex first then move the whole database. Is there any tool or some thing which can do it for me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
what you are being asked to do would be a complex task for an experienced DBA, which, judging by the way you have asked the questions, you are not, no offence intended.
As far as I can see you have three options.
    1. Hire a consultant/contractor with the necessary skills to perform the tasks.
    2. Gain several years experience as an Oracle DBA, including Apex, backup and recovery and disaster recovery skills.
    3. Look for a new job.
Sorry to sound facetious, but it is a ridiculous task you have been given assuming the skill and knowledge level you are coming from. Assuming you have not misrepresented yourself to your employer, this is not your fault and I think you need to seriously push back on your boss if possible.

  • Multilpe  Database on one server

In one server there are 5 database created and all five services are started. When query V$database getting only one database name?
    Oracel 11g /Windows 2008
From which view I will get all created on oracel server.

As the others have almost noted, what sql server calls a database is most closely associated with what Oracle calls a schema. But since you know to look for services you seem to understand this. assuming you understand which service names are databases.
So, there are several ways to determine databases on a server, if you happen to tell us what you want to do with the information we could help you do it. It is difficult to generalize though, because over time a server might be administered strangely, and have useless crap left over. Oracle recommends one database on a host (well, it's more complicated than that, but essentially), so there are assumptions both in the docs and in some tools that this will be the case. Then there are these "instance" thingees which may or may not be associated with a database.
    If you expect the databases to talk to each other, there may be db links. select * from dba_db_links;
There will be sets of registry entries, you could look for oracle in the registry.
There are probably ways to look at services.
tnsnames may give clues, but understand there may be things missing and may be different ways to establish services to the same database and may be multiple tnsnames and may be typos with unexpected effects.

  • Install NetWeaver on one server?

I attended at San Diego last week and the conference was really great, however, one thing I dont understand is the installation. They mentioned that all SAP NetWeaver components could be installed on one server except XI. But if you installing it all on one server, is it installed on the same Database as MDOC, or is it several database instances? If you have to create several instances I assume the server will have to be rather big in terms of hardware. Of course this is not recommended in a production system, but my thinking was actually to have a common server for all NetWeaver development and one server for all QA but seperate servers for the production system. That is the reason why I actually ask the question, because if you have it one the same database instance it will be rather difficult to refresh the QA with PRD copy if you have several PRD systems.
    BR
    Christian Boströ

The idea is to be able to install the whole system on one host, while this may truly not be good advice. We are working on usual scenarios and recommendations on how to install them. I don't know abotu the XI restriction but it is in notes if it applies.
I don't understand what your problem is concerning updates. At least for java you will have the updates on a JDI server that is separate anyway. And if you still have the transport for the abap system this should be the same issue - while I'm sure not an expert on all abap issues.
