SG500X-24P firmware 1.2.0.83

I recently got an old SG500X-24P switch with an active firmware 1.2.0.81. I can't seem to update it. I ran an update to 1.2.0.9, reboot, the firmware still shows 1.2.0.81. I can update the non-active firmware, but can't switch to it. Whatever I do it still shows 1.2.0.81. This device doesn't have Cisco support. Does anyone have firmware 1.2.0.83? Maybe, doing it sequentially will work? Thanks.

Suggestion: Make sure you reboot your RV when you think it should be working and everything matches.
Wasted an hour on my RV320 the other night because it had hung up somehow.  Changes were not taking effect and a reboot fixed it.

  • SF 300 24p Firmware

    Hi guys,
I recently upgraded the firmware of an SF 300 24p PoE switch using the GUI.
But I was wondering if the same task could be done using the CLI so the task could be scripted for bulk operations.
So far, it doesn't seem to support deleting files from flash memory properly (squeeze doesn't seem to exist), as well as other things.
Am I simply missing something or is it something that just can't be done?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Wim, if your switches are running the original firmware 1.0.0.27, there is not a faster way to manage this.
I haven't played with this aspect in a while but the file names are very simple If my memory served me correctly you can't just delete the images or boot code.
As example the firmware images are labeled as image1 or image2, boot is called boot.
    Here's the CLI guide
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbms/sf30x_sg30x/administration_guide/CLI_300_1_2_5.pdf
You can find the syntax for copy operations around page 146/147.
If you're already on the 1.2.7.76 firmware you may also use SCP
    Here's the admin guide
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbms/sf30x_sg30x/administration_guide/78-19308-01.pdf
The SCP option requires a SCP server. I'm not sure if that's a good option for you.

  • Upgrading SF200-24P firmware questions

I have an SF200-24P running FW 1.2.7.76 and boot 1.1.0.6. I wanted to update the firmware in hopes it would help with a weird problem I'm having with a UC320 phone system so I downloaded from Cisco Sx200_FW_Boot_1.4.0.88.zip.
The instructions say if I'm upgrading from something earlier than 1.3.5, I first need to upgrade the device image to "to image 1.3.5 or 1.3.7 and the latest boot file (1.4.0.x)."
In the ZIP file I downloaded from Cisco are two files:
    sx200_boot-13506.rfb
    sx200_fw-14088.ros
Are they just saying I first need to load the sx200_boot-13506.rfb, then load the
    sx200_fw-14088.ros file?
Or do I need to download a previous copy of the firmware? If that is the case, do I just download 1.3.5.58 and install the .ros file in that archive, wait for the switch to become ready, and load the .ros file from the 1.4.0.88 archive?
I'm unclear on the process of getting my switch with old firmware updated to the newest firmware. So any tips would be appreciated.

    Hi,
First upgrade to version sx200_fw_1.3.7.18.ros and Boot code sx200_boot-13506.rfb.After that upgrade to  latest firmware sx200_fw-14088.ros .Not required to upgrade the boot code .since boot code is same for both version firmware.

  • RADIUS authentication SF300-24P

    RADIUS authentication SF300-24P
We have just purchased 20x SF300-24P switches to be installed at our remote offices and we are unable to get RADIUS authentication to work. We already use RADIUS on all our primary network CISCO switches (e.g. 4506s¸ 3560s, 3750s, AP1231Gs,etc) and these work fine so we know the RADIUS server is working.
We are trying to use RADIUS authentication to gain management access onto these switches. Quite simply although we can see that the RADIUS server is accepting the username and password being sent, however the switch says “authentication failed” when to receives the response. We are using Microsoft NPS RADIUS Clients for authentication purposes.
We have upgrade the switches to the latest firmware 1.1.2.0, via the console it seems to have a very cut down IOS version so we cannot use the typical CISCO command set to configure the RADIUS as we normally would. Looking at the web GUI there seems to be a number of options missing including the Accounting port. When debugging is switch on there is no indication to say that any of the settings have been misconfigured.
Any advice you could offer would be gratefully received.
    Mike Lewis

    Here is the documentation excerpt-
For the RADIUS server to grant access to the web-based switch configuration
utility, the RADIUS server must return cisco-avpair = shell:priv-lvl=15.
User authentication occurs in the order that the authentication methods are
selected. If the first authentication method is not available, the next selected
method is used. For example, if the selected authentication methods are RADIUS
and Local, and all configured RADIUS servers are queried in priority order and do
not reply, the user is authenticated locally.
If an authentication method fails or the user has insufficient privilege level, the user
is denied access to the switch. In other words, if authentication fails at an
authentication method, the switch stops the authentication attempt; it does not
continue and does not attempt to use the next authentication method.
Of course the point of interest here is the second paragraph. The initial wording is the behavior you want. The second portion is very open for interpretation (I do agree it is somewhat ambiguous but consistent with the switch behavior). When I read the example and it says the Radius is busy or not responding then you will authenticate locally. Which seems fair enough. But what it doesn't say, is if you can use one or the other, but instead it seems based on preference failure.

  • Firmware Best practices

Any suggestions on best practices for firmware upgrading. Currently using a combination of SF200 switches (SF200-48, SF200-24, SF200-24P, SF200-24FP), WAP561, and WAP321. The question is should I step the updates from the current to the most recent or can I just update to newest release?

    Hello,
For the switches please bear in mind the following upgrade steps:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/12321266/firmware-upgrade-troubleshooting-300-and-500-series-managed-switches
Please note that with boot code 1.3.5.06 there are quite important change in file system so before proceeding to 1.4.0.88 you will have to upgrade switch to 1.3.7 firmware not boot code 1.3.5.06.
For the access points it is not the same case however please always check release notes of the latest firmware for special instructions.

  • How to stack a SG500 and SG500X switch?

Hi, I've been trying to stack three switches a SG500-28P a SG500-52P and a SG500X-28P - the SG500s stack fine, however when I added the 500x to the stack, the unit deactivated itself and took itself off the network - not good as it was the core switch!
Any ideas what's going on, are they using a different stack protocol to the others - I was just going for native and 5G ?
    Firmware was 1.3
    Many thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
SG500 and SG500x only supports native stacking.
Native Stacking—A device is capable of joining other devices in native
mode with its stack ports to form a stack. All units in a native stack must be
of the same type (all Sx500 or all SG500X).

  • 720/24p Question

Hi. I am a beginner with a question. I am having an issue with the frame rate in FCP. I have been shooting at 720/24p on an HVX 200. I am recording to a Firestore FS100. It is set to DVCPRO HD and the format is set to P2. I have the FCP 6.0.4 sequence and capture presets set at DVCPRO HD 720p24. I have also checked the "Remove Advanced Pulldown and Duplicated Frames" box in the Import Preferences drop down of the Log and Transfer window. When I transfer the clips the video rate shows up in the browser window as 59.94. Is there something that I am missing to get the video rate to 23.98?
I pulled the same clips from the Firestore into Premier and they came in at 23.98. Any help that anyone could give would be awesome.
    Thanks!
    Jeff

Not to my knowledge. The extra frames in the 60p stream are just duplicates of the 24 that you want, so they don't hold any useful additional information. The only reason 24p records into a 60p stream is that the specs for the tape-based DVCPRO-HD format (that the HVX inherited) only support a 60p stream for 720p. The HVX embeds 24p into a 60p stream so that you can record the stream directly onto a DVCPRO-HD tape deck, if you want.
However, since we now have P2 and FS100s that don't carry these stream restrictions, it probably seems a little wasteful to record all those duplicate frames, doesn't it? Fortunately with the FS100's newer firmware versions you now have the option to save only the frames that you're actually shooting.
There's a storage comparison chart for the different shooting modes here:

  • Exporting 24p from a 30p timeline

I'm using the Canon 5D Mark II with it's recent firmware update of 2.0.3 that shoots 24p (23.98). However I have to archive all my projects onto XDCAM pro disc, and the PDW-HD1500 deck I'm recording to only accepts 29.97
I trascoded my native h264 24p footage to XDCAM 1080p24. Once doing that, I drop that 24p footage into a 29.97 timeline, and my machine can output it in real-time through my Kona3 card via HDSDI onto my deck.
So it works fine, but my question is more: what mathmatically is happening to my footage? Is it really recording at 29.97 and "filling in" 6 frames per second? Or staying at 24p? Anyone know a more proper workaround?
I'm not too worried about final products since I export direct to the web, but for archiving and making masters, I want to know how FCP handles the framerate difference...

If you're going out from the AJA, you can decide what pulldown you want to add. If you want to be able to reconstitute a 24fps clip, you should add advanced pulldown (2:3:3:2) instead of the standard 3:2 pulldown. If you add 3:2 pulldown, you'll still have 6 interlaced frames after you remove the pulldown later on. If you add advanced pulldown, you'll be able to remove the interlaced frames and have a true progressive 24p.
You would leave the timeline as 24p, and in the AJA utility, tell it to print to tape with pulldown and then choose the scheme.
If you are bent on doing it with FCP, go into the System Setting/Playback Control tab and set the pulldown scheme to the one you want.

  • VoIp settings for replacing a Cisco 3550 switch with a SF300-24P

I am adding the SF300-24P to an existing set of switches.  My backbone switch is a 3560.
The 3550 I am replacing has this config for each port that supports a Shoretel phone
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    mls qos trust dscp
    global settings include
    spaning-tree mode pvst
    spanning-tree extend system-id
    spanning-tree vlan 1,200 priority 28762
    vlan internal allocation policy ascending
all other settings are at default
Any ideas how to replicate this on this new switch?  I added the Shoretel mac address range (00-10-49) into the Telephone OUI.  The phone gets power, I think it gets a 192.168.6.x address (local subnet), but then it should get an IP 10.6.0.xx on its VLAN - but it doesn't.
Some configs from the backbone are attached.  I did not need to configure any of this in the 3550.
    Any ideas?
    Fred

    Hi fred,
The shoretel phone sounds like it is not attaching to tagged  vlan 200 on my switch, the shortel voice vlan as per your screen captures.
The Voice VLAN should be tagged on my switch so that phones attach to a Voice VLAN and PC's connected on the back of the VoIP phones attach to  the Data Vlan .
I scoped out, excuse the pun, the shoretel site and have attached a white paper on setting vlans and shoretel.
They mention setting option 156 on the DHCP server, so the phone can get vendor specific information etc...  But the phones are not attached to the voice vlan , but the untagged data vlan.  You gotta figure how to get the shortel phones to attach to vlan 200, or if you are not daisy chaining PC on the back of the phone, make vlan 200 untagged on these FastEthernet switch ports..
I have attached my SF300-48P version of my configuration and some configuration screen shots i took along the way.
Please review carefully that attached shortel document and my screen  shots and a real configuration done on my SF300-48P.  The configuration should be almost identical to your configuration.
I added vlan 200. and made sure that all ports were in trunk mode, even the Gigabit uplink ports.
All ports by default are in VLAN1  as you can see below
I then added all ports as tagged ports to vlan 200 as you can see below.
For the sake of Spanning tree, I then made all fast ethernet (phone or PC) ports  fastports except for the uplink Gigabit ports.
If you are not sure what portfast does , here's a little tutorial I grabbed from cisco.com
Spanning-tree PortFast causes a port to enter the spanning-tree forwarding state immediately, bypassing the listening and learning states. You can use PortFast on switch ports connected to a single workstation or server to allow those devices to connect to the network immediately, instead of waiting for the port to transition from the listening and learning states to the forwarding state.
Caution PortFast should be used only when connecting a single end station to a switch port. If you enable PortFast on a port connected to another networking device, such as a switch, you can create network loops.
When the switch powers up, or when a device is connected to a port, the port normally enters the spanning-tree listening state. When the forward delay timer expires, the port enters the learning state. When the forward delay timer expires a second time, the port is transitioned to the forwarding or blocking state.
When you enable PortFast on a port, the port is immediately and permanently transitioned to the spanning-tree forwarding state.
Your tasks I guess should be , making sure that vendor specific options for the shoretel phones are included in the DHCP configuration and that you somehow attach the shortel phones (even manually) to vlan 200.
For some reason this site adds a zip extension to the end of my running configuration.  I used wordpad to look at the file
I am using firmware version 1.0.0.27 on my unit and the userid=admin  password i used was admin
    I hope this helps.
    regards Dave

  • SF300-24P - SNMP question

    Hi,
I've a script that does the check of port status asking OIDs
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.2
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.1
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8
after a firmware upgrade, all these OIDs are not available.
    for example:
snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.197 .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.2iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.2 = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID
I also tried to follows procedures like:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a00801c9199.shtml
using the community string indexing (I don't think that it applies to small business switches) but for desperation...
    Have you any suggestion?
Thank you very much in advance,

  • SG500X Dropped packets

I have been having issues for a long time with the SG500X units. I keep getting many "Drop Events", or dropped packets (as seen in the attachment). There are no real "errors" or issues that I can see otherwise. I have 2 stacked SG500X-48 port switches connected with 10GB cables. I have 13 different LAG groups that span the 2 switches (8 are down-links to SG200 switches for clients). I have 2 physical vmware boxes, and 1 SAN connected with 10GB cables. I have one main physical server that almost everyone accesses to connect to a foxpro database. The drops happen on the highest utilization ports, especially the physical server that is running foxpro. There are about 100 users total (connected to the SG200's).
Any ideas? I have gone through the configurations multiple times with Cisco, and with others. But no change. I have tried everything to correct.

    Hi Aleksandra,
Thank you for replying. Boot version is 1.3.7.01, and firmware is 1.3.7.18.
I know there is a newer version, but I have applied about 5 new firmware versions over the last 2 years to try to fix this. I will upgrade soon, but it is a bigger process now that SAN and vmware boxes are tied together over these switches.
EDIT: Of note is that the drops are on the highest utilization ports (vmware, SAN, and a very busy server hosting a foxpro database). We have been thinking it is a buffer issue onthe switch (whether a switch issue or us exceeding its capacity, though not sure how), but have not been able to confirm that.

  • SG500x-24 Ports and stacking

    Hello,
we have one problem. We have two SG500X-24 Switches and we want to connect 4 x 10GBit/s and use also the stacking feature(with the other two ports)
But when we configure the switch with one of the two stacking modi in the webinterface, Port 3 and 4 aren't activated anymore? Is that a firmware limitation, or it isnt possible to use stacking and 4 port 10Gbit connection.
    thank you and best regards,
    Tarik

The two ports are shared.  It's either one or the other.  You should be able to stack over the 10GbE links between the units however.
