Shared Services is taking forever to come up

Hello Experts,
One of my customer has an issue with Shared Services. They have intergrated Shared Services with Active Directory and want to pull users into a SS from a specific AD group. Right now its pulling all the users but Shared Services is taking forever to come up.
Environment:
Essbase version 9.3.1
OS : Win 2003 server SP1
Any inputs on this issue is appreciated. Thanks in advance
Regards,
Sonu

Hi,
Is the MSAD large, if so are you filtering down to a more specific area instead of looking at the whole AD.
Also have you tried applying patch :- 9.3.1.0.07 which addresses -
Shared Services made several calls to the user directory server (LDAP or MSAD) to build group and user cache, causing slow startup performance (Bug# 7144686). This fix significantly reduces the number of calls made to the user directory server to improve start up performance.
You can download it from metalink3

  • Shared Services Connection to SQL Server Failed

    Hi all
Am trying to configure an SQL Server 2005 user directory in Hyperion
Shared Services and have got to the screen where I need to type in
all of the database details (i.e. Type, Name, Server, Port, etc) and
a username/password but I keep getting the message:
Connection Failed. Not enough privileges to connect to the directory
    server...
I'm trying to connect to the "hypdb" database I've set up in SQL and
have tried the username "hypuser" which is set as the database owner
and another login which I've called "SysAdmin" and has system
    administrator priviliges.
Have also tried the system generated used ID "sa" but again no luck.
Am I missing a setting for these logins in SQL which is stopping
Shared Services being able to log in as them?
Also, for the "Name" box on this Shared Services window do I just
come up with my own unique name for the server or does it have to be
something that has already been defined?

    Hi,
The first things to know when you connect to MS SQL SERVER is the host or ip address and the port.
If these are correct when you click on RETRIEVE DATABASE, you are able to see all database on the server you specified.
So that means connection is ok, but of course user and password may be incorrect at this level.
If no database are retrieved, that means the host or/and port are not correct.
So before click on TEST, are you able to retrieve the database with RETRIEVE DATABASE button?
Are you able to ping the remote machine (SQL SERVER) with ip address or hostname?
Are you sure about the port for the SQL Server?

  • Qosmio X500-128, taking forever to boot also Toshiba service station error

    Hi
My toshiba qosmio x500-128 is taking forever to boot up these days, iver rolled back the system using system restore, ive stopped any unessential startup services that i know are not req at startup but the system still takes forever to boot, ive also updated to the latest BIOS etc
Another thing is that everytime i login i get the error that Toshiba Service station has stopped working...
any help would be greatly appreciated

So if I am to do a system reformat. I am no novice with computers but by no means completely efficient at everything. What is the "best-practice" when doing a system reformat?
Burn a reformat disc from the system utilities?
Is there a way to reformat that would install the latest drivers/BIOS?
I am going to have a headache with the stuff on my HDD, eg. iTunes, photos, university work don't think I have enough space on my extra HDD's to store it all then to re-transfer it all back... :(
Lets just say I'm not looking forward to doing it, and I am the one everyone goes to to do these sort of things for, I don't mind if I mess up their computers that much but this laptop is my baby :D

  • New group in Shared Services does not come up in projects?

    Hi All,
I'm working on a system that has externalized security, and we use Hyperion Shared Services to add users to groups and assign filters to groups.
I have just added a new group in the analkytic server in shared services, I have also provisioned it to have filter access of a particular DB.
When I go to the projects folder and check the list of groups under the application, to look for this group so I could assign the filter, I dont find the group listed.
Does anyone know what I am missing out on.
    Thanks in advance.
    Anindyo

    Hi John,
I tried to delete the group and create a new group again:
searched for the group, right clicked on it and clicked on Provision.
Then I expanded the Analytic server tree to the left, selected server Access, and moved it using the arrow button.
Then I expanded the DB name, there were "Provisioning Manager", "Application Manager" and "My Role".
I expanded the Tree of "My Role" and found "Calc", "Filter" and "Read".
I expanded the tree "Filter", and found Start/Stop Application.
I selected "Filter" (not Start/Stop Application) and moved it to the second list on the right using the Arrow button.
Then I clicked on the save button.
Now I expanded the Projects Folder:
Clicked on the DB to which I provisioned this group.
It showed the list of users and groups to the right.
I selected groups in the drop down.
Clicked on refresh, but the new group does not appear.
Please let me know if I missed out on anything.
    Thanks for the response,
    Regard,
    Anindyo

  • Migaration is taking forever to finish

I got my new aluminum macbook yesterday. I set up my old G4 to migrate the new one. I let it work over night and not much had been done. I restarted the process and tried again. It is still taking forever to transfer. I only have around 28 GB to tranfer.
How long is this process supposed to take?
Do I need a new ethernet cable?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
How long is this process supposed to take?
Your mileage may vary, but comparably speaking, forever. Unfortunately the Migration Assistant was not designed to work 100% well between PowerPC and Intel Macs even when Firewire was possible. Cancel the process and use the one described here, albeit with a simple ethernet network and simple data transfer from shared drive, since Target Disk Mode is no longer a possibility with the new aluminum MacBooks:

  • Shared Services backup

    Hello Gurus,
What does Shared Services backup consist of. I believe it has to do with the roles and all of users right? But a bit confused.
For example, I went in to HSS and exported the SHARED SERVICES to the FILESYSTEM. Can someone please tell me what is the main use of the the SHARED SERVICES in terms of this case?
ALSO, one way I can import is again using the LCM, however, if I dont want to use the LCM, what would be the way to import the SHARED SERVICES that I have backed up.
ALSO, I have used the DMP files to create a new application. Do I need to import the SHARED SERVICES as well in this case.
    Thanks

Shared Services holds the following information
    User directory configurations
    Single sign-on configuration
    Native Directory management
    Role-based access control management
    Audit configuration and report management
    Shared services registry
So you are backing up the above, taking a database backup is important , to restore you would do as you have previously with Oracle backups.
    Cheers

  • Hyperion Shared Services Backup

    Hi All,
We are taking the backup of Domain.xml, CSS.xml, slide.properties, WorkflowEngine.properties, manage_data.properties,openldap-data & slapd.conf. Can anyone let me know what does this files contain and the importane of it.
    Regards,
    Kris.

Oh, so you've read the backup guide and want to know why you're backing these files up? Did you look at them in a text editor?
If you read the three bullet points at the top of the Shared Services Backup section, you will see that these files are:
    * Shared Services application server configuration files
    * OpenLDAP database configuration file
    * All OpenLDAP data and log files
You are getting the noninstaller's perspective on these files, so you might want to see what others have to say on the subject.
Domain.xml -- Looks like a configuration file for Shared Services Could this be important: http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0221-10/crdomxml.html
CSS.xml -- external authentication config file
slide.properties -- looks like some kind of Apache config file tied to Shared Services Could this be important: http://jakarta.apache.org/slide/wck.html
WorkflowEngine.properties -- another Shared Services config file (I am seeing a trend)
manage_data.properties -- again, Shared Services, this one looks like a server name and port for the dreaded and hopefully truly dead HUB
openldap-data -- a folder that contains the OpenLDAP xml database files
slapd.conf -- Main config file for LDAP daemon. See: http://www.faqs.org/docs/securing/chap26sec213.html

  • Hyperion Shared Services Import security files where to define roles-11.1.2

    Hi,
I want to create the shared services security import file. Do anyone knows where to define the group or user roles for it. Earlier we have to changes in CSImportexport.
Now in version 11.1.2.1 things are different.
    Do anyone knows about it.
    Thanks!!!!

    Thanks for the reply.
I am taking export only first and this is what i got from export, if you see below under role id there are some codes generated internally, if I have to give any group different roles like planner, application creator, interactive user... where in csv file I can define those.

  • Shared Services question....

Hi all, I have a question regarding managing Shared Services. Hopefully, I'm posting the subject in the right area.
I'm trying to restructure the whole security management process for a client and I'd like to verify with everyone if this is the standard industry practice.
When I set up the admin login (power user), should I provision all levels of access (both read & write) in DEV/TEST? Then after it's set up successfully, should I push it down to PROD?
When I make changes to access for the end users, should I also provision in DEV/TEST? Do I have to do it again in PROD? or should the end users be able to see the change right away in PROD?
Thanks for taking time to read.

Is there a "standard industry practice" for provisioning? I usually find it depends on the client how the provisioning process will operate. I rarely come across provisioning that is applied through all the environments.
    Cheers

  • ITunes 8 taking FOREVER ( 12 hours) to process artwork thumbnails

Anybody else seeing this? Its taking forever to process the artwork thumbnails. It looks like its going out on our shared drive and processing all the media on all the computers on the network (~300GB). Or at least those that are shared. I can't tell for sure because the spinning color wheel of death won't pause so I can see what is going on.
Next question is will each of the computers in the house go through the same painful process with the shared media when upgraded to iTunes 8?
What an idiot I was. 8(

Same problem here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1701877&tstart=0). What worked for me, finally, was to quickly hit Stop before the spinning ball appeared and I then checked off for this never to happen automatically in the subsequent dialogue window. It seems to get hung with albums that start with S.

  • Unable to access applications in workspace, shared services

    Hi ,
I am Unable to access applications in workspace and shared services on EPM 11.1.1.3. It happened after normal shutdown/startup scripts were run.
But when I reconfigure the Weblogic web server and run the services again I can access the applications. This is happening frequently now.
Is this anything related to user profiles on the server as we are migrating these to other server.
Can any one help me with this .

You must first check if you have configured the web server to include the hfm/planning products.
Then you can refer to the thread below:
Not able to see Consolidation Administration
The latter definitely applies to version 9.3.1, but it could be helpful.

  • File Sharing Service keeps crashing Error Reading Settings, File Sharing Service keeps crashing Error Reading Settings

File sharing service keeps popping up with the error message An error occurred on the server while processing a command.  This error occurred while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in 'servermgr_afp'.
I have tried multiple solutions on this site, unloading afp and restarting it, restarting postgres.  The file sharing tab will show up for a few seconds on the server.app config page then once someone tries to access any of the shared volumes on there, the event log shows it crashing instantly.  Error in console:
    The server '127.0.0.1' reported an error while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in: 'servermgr_afp'.  Error: Error Domain=XSActionErrorDomain Code=0 "SETTING_NOT_FOUND_ERR" UserInfo=0x7ffe6a835060 {NSLocalizedDescription=SETTING_NOT_FOUND_ERR}
Also I get the error com.apple.launchd: (com.apple.collabd.notifications[7520]) Exited with code 1 then always followed by Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds and this happens every 10 seconds without fail.

I have started getting this error this morning:
This error occurred while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in 'servermgr_afp'.
Using Server 2.2.2; MacMini running OS X 10.8.5, 2 GHz Core i7 with 8 GB RAM attached to a 12TB Pegasus RAID.
When the error appears, my users cease to be able to access file shares.
Often, just before the error occurs, my users experience substantial slow down in the Finder's responsiveness when manipulating files on those shares.
Restarting the Server App will produce one of several results
    1. fix the problem (rarely)
    2. fail to connect to server
    3. connect to server but not get all services running.
The system itself resists a full shutdown, hanging at the grayish-white screen (not spinning wheel or cog or apple logo).
I wish there was some known fix for this.
