SharePoint 2013 Canonical Links Adding Port Numbers???

I love the new SEO features of SharePoint 2013.  But I am experiencing a major problem with the canonical href that SharePoint 2013 SEO Optimization features automatically renders:
<
link
rel="canonical"
href="http://www.mysite.com:80/"
/>
It is appending the URL with the port number.  I haven't been able to figure out a way to either configure this to not use the port number or to remove it all together without removing the rest of the SEO Optimization features.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you!!!
Robyn

Hi Robyn,
In Central Admin , Application Mgmt-->Manage Web Applications, link what does the URL show as;
http://www.mysite.com:80 or http://www.mysite.com
Usually when we create web application, the URL section shows port number and for default ports 80 (and 443) we can exclude the port number from the URL during web application creation, so that in Central Admin , Application Mgmt-->Manage Web Applications,
URL will be shown without port number.
If in Central Admin URl is showing with Port number still you can manage through "Alternate Access Mapping" for default zone and take off the port number.

    Hi,
In our sharepoint 2013 environment, we have a custom application and in which we have a button and when we click on the button the initial url was below
    http://abcd.com/apps/xyz/test.aspx
After clickin on the button it redirects to the below, where in the custom app they are using query string to append the url.
    http://abcd.com:6001/apps/xyz/test.aspx?EID=7&ListID=1723aasd-ajsfs12346
And i am getting the web page cannot be displayed error.
Please help me to resolve this issue. Is there any issue in the custom code or in IIS redirect or server related configuration.

  • SharePoint 2013 Central Admin says port 80 for three web applications, but IIS says they have different ports

    Hello,
I have three web applications on a SharePoint 2013 servers.  In Central Administrators on the Application Management page where it lists all of the web applications, it shows Port 80 being used 2 3 sites.  When I go to IIS, 2 of the 3 are using
different ports, 81 and 82.  So, only one site IIS says is using port 80. Why is this?  The host file has no entries in it.  Where these web applications extended?
    Thanks,
    Paul
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
From the URL of the web application in Central Administration in the image, you have configured the Alternate Access Mapping for the web applications.
And the URL configured is by default using port 80 if you don’t
assign other ports for the web application, so the port is changed to 80 in Central Administration.
To be able to access the web application, you need to add binging for the web application in IIS(please make sure that you have added the host name in DNS).
For example, SharePoint – 32298, you need to create the binding for the web application in IIS as the image below:

  • SharePoint 2013 Promoted Links issue

    Hi,
I am encountering an issue in which I need some input. This is a SharePoint 2013 environment and the issue is related to Promoted Links. The issue is that after 60 seconds the title on the promoted links disappear. Checking in developer tools, I notice
that the div tag that houses the title information disappears also. I am attaching the images that depict the behavior. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
We need more investigation for troubleshooting:
Are you using OOB promoted links app in SharePoint 2013?
Is there customization on the issue app? If so, how did you customize it?

  • SharePoint 2013 Published links to Office client applications - Registry key for MySite is missing on client

    Hello,
how is the Registry Key HKCU\Software\AppDataLow\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Portal
for "PersonalSiteURL" supposed to be set in SharePoint 2013 / Office 2013?
Or is there another way to tell the Office Clients where to look for the user profile / published links? In SharePoint 2007 there was a button "Set as default MySite" which creates the Registry key as far as I know.
How is Office 2013 supposed to get this Information?
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    Hi Dennis ,
    Thank you for your posting!
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get the Published links using  Office 2013 on client.
Yes, you can get the Published links using Office 2013 on client. For achieving your demand, you need to have the 15.0/Common/Portal registry key setup with a PersonalSiteURL defined . For detailed information,
you can refer to the article and note that everything is 15 instead of 12 now:

  • SharePoint 2013 List & linked Document Set Project Help Needed

I have struggling to find the best solution for a recent project. I'm sure someone will have a better suggestion than what I have come up with.
    Project Requests
    Project Tracking and Documents
    Status and other data
    Project Documents
Offsite Syncing for active projects (SkyDrive Pro)
    Attempted Scenario
    1 List for Project Tracking
1 Document Library for Project Documents (Document Set content type)
I created a workflow to automatically create a new Document Set when an item was added to the list, then create a link to the Document set in a column called Documents. The goal with the document sets is to have them sent to another library (archive) when
the project is marked complete. The reason is so that the user synching offline won't have so many document sets to sync or to browse through (there would easily be a few hundred within a couple of months)
Is there a way to programmatically move the document set to an archive library when the list item status is set to complete?  And if the status were to change back to active, to move back to the active library.
Or maybe I am going about this the wrong way entirely?  All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
With Event Receiver, we can capture the ItemUpdated event of item of a list when the value of an item is updated, then perform the Document Set moving accordingly.
Here is a step by step sample on creating a simple Item added event receiver for Custom List in SharePoint 2010:

  • SharePoint 2013 cannot view PDF documents in mobile browser with office web apps

    Hi,
I'm receiving the following error when viewing SharePoint 2013 PDF documents in a mobile browser after clicking on the filename:
"Viewing of .pdf files has been disabled in Microsoft Word Mobile Viewer. Please get in touch with your helpdesk."
    My Question
Is viewing PDF documents in mobile browsers with Office Web Apps SP1 actually supported?  If so, how can I enable it?  I've already have pdf viewing working in non-mobile browsers. Word documents open just fine on mobile browsers too.
I'm getting conflicting answers for pdf mobile viewing support from various sources:
You've got Microsoft toting that they've added in PDF viewing on any device for Office Web Apps
    http://blogs.office.com/2013/07/03/pdfs-in-the-word-web-app/
A MS support person saying saying it is not supported
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_web_apps_server_2013_support_blog/archive/2013/12/31/enabling-pdf-previews-in-document-libraries-with-office-web-apps-2013-in-sharepoint-2013-open-link-does-not-work-from-preview.aspx
Another person implying that it should work because you can disable pdf browsing for mobile browsers only
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/07/24/control-whether-pdfs-open-in-word-web-app-or-the-default-pdf-reader.aspx
    What I've tried
When I started looking into this there was a mobile WOPI entry:
    Application     : WordPdf
    Extension       : PDF
    ProgId          :
    Action          : mobileView
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : 20SP8
    WopiZone        : internal-http
I tried experimenting with tweaking this binding by changing the DefaultAction to true, and even removing it altogether via:
    Get-SPWopiBinding -Action "MobileView" -Application "WordPDF" | Remove-SPWopiBinding -Confirm:$false
But I still get the same message.
I removed all the WordPdf bindings and re-added them via:
New-SPWOPIBinding –ServerName "<myserver>" –Application "WordPDF" -AllowHTTP
No dice.  In fact the mobileview binding doesn't even come back... but I guess that is a different issue altogether.
    Version
    SharePoint 2013 (SP1)
    Office Web Apps Server (SP1)
    Farm Setup
    Internal facing only
2 front end servers, 1 app server, 1 office web apps server

I think the PDF support, if it exists, in only in Office 365. Always remember that the Office 365 and on premises versions will never be in sync. On premise is updated using periodic service packs and Office 365 has continuous updates. (I've heard every
    10 days.)
In my Office 365 / IE 10 tests, the PDFs open in the browser's default PDF viewer, in my case FoxIt Reader. So I can't prove one way or the other about support in Office Web Apps.

  • SharePoint 2013 - Missing Publishing Page Ribbon/Tab on custom page layout - Page language="C#" Inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.PublishingLayoutPage,.... VS CodeBehind="BlogDemo.aspx.cs" Inherits="DemoProject.Branding.BlogDemo"

I created page layouts using Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013. I added both ASP.NET web controls (e.g. asp:Label, asp:HyperLink) and SharePoint web controls (e.g. SharePointWebControls:UrlField) in a page layout.
However, when I deployed the solution, I cannot edit all the ASP.NET & SharePoint web controls (column fields from custom content type used for the page layout) except the web part zones.
Then I found out about inherits property:
    1) if I use the code for the page layout as shown below:
    <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="BlogDemo.aspx.cs"
    Inherits="DemoProject.Branding.BlogDemo" MasterPageFile="/_catalogs/masterpage/DemoProject/DemoMasterPage.master"
    %>
Result: There is no publishing ribbon/tab. E.g. Edit, Publish..... although both ASP.NET & SharePoint web controls can be displayed on the page layout.
    Screenshot:
    2) if I use the code instead as shown below:
    <%@ Page language="C#" Inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.PublishingLayoutPage,Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing,Version=15.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"
    meta:progid="SharePoint.WebPartPage.Document" %>
Result: Publishing ribbon/tab is available, but ASP.NET web controls won't appear. Only SharePoint web controls appear on the page layout.
    Screenshot:
I wonder how I can combine both codes to ensure that the page layout can have publishing ribbon/tab and displays both ASP.NET & SharePoint web controls.

  • SharePoint 2013 Foundation Top Link Bar wrong selected page when no navigation match

    Hello,
    I've got the following issue.
At one of my clients we are working on a public web site based on SharePoint 2013 Foundation (yes I know... Foundation...). I've branded the Top Nav Bar and ran into a problem.
When I navigate to one of the pages in the Top Link Bar the selected item is marked as "Selected", great! But when I navigate to one of the pages that is not added in the Top Link Bar the first item is marked as "Selected", not so great.
For example when I navigate to /Pages/About.aspx the first item /Pages/Home.aspx is selected.
    Can you help me out?

    Hi,
Could you give me more detailed information about this issue?

  • In SharePoint 2013 navigation, is it possible to add a custom link only to the left-hand menu without getting it in to the top menu dropdown?

If I want to add a custom link to the left-hand navigation menu In a SharePoint 2013 sub-site, it can be done by visiting
Site Settings à Navigation section and adding the link under
Structural Navigation: Editing and Sorting section. However, this will automatically add a matching link to the top menu as a dropdown.
(Note that Global Navigation is set to “Display the same navigation items as the parent site” where “Parent is using Structural Navigation.” and Current Navigation is set to “Structural Navigation:
Display only the navigation items below the current site”)

  • Adding Hyperlink to content within RTE in SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
We are using the default RTE provided by SP 2013. We need to provide hyperlink within the content added in the RTE. Please suggest a way to do this.
    Thanks.
    Ateeb

    Hi Ateeb,
As I understand, you would like to add hyperlink to content edited in rich text editor.
I create a page in SharePoint 2013, then the page content is in rich text editor. I can directly add a hyperlink, such as
http://www.bing.com, then click space, it will turn blue and to be marked as a hyperlink here.
If you would like to edit this hyperlink, you could move your cursor among this link, then a Link tab will appear. Or you could select Edit Source under Format Text tab, then you will find hyperlink displayed as:
    <p>
    <a href="http://www.bing.com/">http://www.bing.com</a>
    </p>
You could edit the source code directly per your requirements.
