Should apple replace my product?

I recently bought a new mbp a 4 weeks ago. After a while I realized that there was vibration coming from the left and right side of the touchpad. I went to the apple store and the guy there told me that it was the harddrive and they will just replace it. My problem with this is that the left side of the touchpad was also vibrating and I think that this affect other parts of the mac and in the end reflect the performance of my mbp. It's not like i had the mac for a while, I got it a month ago and I didn't shell out $1500 to get a product that doesn't perform the way it's suppose to. I see how they wouldn't replace it after 3 or 4 months but i just got it and this is clearly a problem in their product.

If you are seeing real problems in operation, your Mac is still under warranty and Apple will make things right. There is no warranty on your fear of future problems. We all have that and just make sure we have backups.
Have you tried an External drive with Time Machine ? It is so simple and reliable. It just does an incremental backup every hour if the drive is plugged in, and uses very little system resources to do it. The first one takes a while, but after that you barely notice.
If you are still finding vibrations objectionable, prices on SSD drives (NO moving parts) have come down, and those drives are fast and use less power. OWC (macsales.com) has some very Mac-friendly models available.

  • Does the apple warrenty start again when apple replace your products

    Hi All
When apple replace your products like my iphone 5 does the 12 month warrenty start again? as the replacement I have is giving me an electric shock in my ear when on the phone and my phone is on charge

An item replaced under warranty will have the balance of the original warranty or 90 days, whichever is longer.

Hi, my 4th generation 8gb white ipod charger port is broken, would apple replace my product for free if I'm not insured?

I doubt it since that type of damage is caused by the user, not a defect. You can always make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and ask
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Otherwise, Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for $99.

  • My 2007 Macbook's charger has started blowing fuses. Should Apple replace it?

The 60W power supply for my mid-2007 white Macbook (UK model) is outwardly in good condition. I use a surge protecter between the PSU and the wall socket. I have been careful not to kink or strain either the mains lead that runs from the mains plug to the PSU, nor the low voltage lead that runs from the PSU to the MagSafe connector. I am also careful to place the PSU such that there is plenty of space around it for convection currents to carry away the heat it generates.
Today, the power supply made a loud "pop" noise, and shortly afterwards I noticed that the Macbook was running on battery power, even though the charger remained plugged in.
I checked the fuse in the PSU's mains connector. It was a 3A fuse, and it had blown. I disconnected the PSU from the Macbook and from the mains, and replaced the blow fuse with a fresh 3A fuse. I then plugged the PSU back into the mains, whereupon it made a "pop" noise as before. When I connected the MagSafe connector to the Macbook, the Macbook did not detect it, nor did the MagSafe's charging light switch on.
Clearly, the problem is with the charger rather than with the Macbook, since the second fuse blew without the Macbook connected.
I took the charger to my nearest Apple store, and tried it with their mains connector instead of mine. As soon as it was plugged into their wall socket, it blew the fuse in their mains connector, and made the same "pop" noise as previously.
The staff member I spoke to said Apple would not replace or repair my charger and my only option was to buy a brand new 60W power supply for £65!
Surely Apple should replace defective devices though, shouldn't they?

It's a 5 year old charger.  Apple does not warranty chargers for life.
At the price they're charging, they ought to warrant them to last a good deal longer than I've had mine. Besides, I note that if mine had failed in a different way (e.g. melted at the MagSafe connector) at this age, it might well be eligible for free replacement. So why not for failing in the way it has done?

  • Should Apple replace my macbook?

So I have a Early 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch that I bought last October. I have had the notorious "ticking" noise that is said to be coming from the HDD. I took it to Apple and they replaced the HDD after a week of having it. I get it back and immediatly has the same exact problem. I feel that I should complain, but I would like to know if this situation would constitute a replacement? The laptop also had a problem with the trackpad being erractic but went away after a few days. I explained this to Apple, the same time I brought it in for the ticking, and they found a small dent above the trackpad so they tried to charge me but i declined. So I am wondering if this dent could also prevent me from getting a possible replacement? I am just getting annoyed with the ticking and i feel that it is their obligation to fix it. Thanks in advance!

Since that is what the Apple people's time is for, I doubt if even they would consider it "wasting" their time. You are far more likely to get an answer from them, though. It may be yes or it may be no, but it will be an answer.
    Best of luck.

  • Should Apple Replace Screen Protector on Replaced iPhone??

I'm debating whether or not to make a stink about this, but I have had my iPhone 4 replaced twice since I got it the end of July. Both times it had a screen protector on it. The second time I had literally just gotten the protector in the mail and put it on the phone. I asked them to replace it because it was not my fault the hardware on the phone failed and had to be replaced, but they wouldn't solely because it wasn't an item they carry. First of all, the Apple Store doesn't carry screen protectors?? Really? And second, so if it was an item they carried they'd replace it? I don't understand.
Has anyone had a similar experience or can answer my question whether this is worth pursuing or not? I know it's only like $20 out of my pocket, but it's $20 I didn't have to waste if Apple's hardware hadn't failed, twice.

I believe an Apple store does sell screen protectors, but they may not sell the screen protector you purchased and had installed in the mall. I don't believe an Apple store installs a screen protector when purchased at an Apple store. Regardless, I'm pretty sure this is not covered under the warranty.
And second, so if it was an item they carried they'd replace it? I don't understand.
A good question for this Apple store.

  • My 4yr old iMac's video card caught fire, should apple replace it?

I bought an iMac on Monday 24th December 2007, and after attempting to turn it on - 19th January 2012 the video card caught fire in it and has damaged the computer completely.
I find this very surprising from such a high quality brand such as Apple, and I'm wondering if I'm within my rights as a consumer to ask for a refund or fully paid repair. The computer is barely four years old and I treat it with kid gloves. I keep it well away from any danger and it sits comfortably on a solid wood desk, So again I find it impossible to believe that this is a 'natural death' of a iMac.
I took the iMac to a reputable apple centre who quoted me around £1200 to repair the faulty machine.
Cana anyone offer any advice or have suffered any similar problems?

Your iMac is far beyond it's normal warranty, and even beyond the period that would be covered by AppleCare. So getting Apple to cover the issue for free is highly unlikely. I doubt that any consumer rights group would find that Apple is obligated in this matter.
You can of course call Apple support and discuss the matter with them, but even if the iMac actually caught fire rather than a chip just failing (which can in some cases result in significant smoke and stink and make it seem like there was a fire), it's not likely Apple will do anything for you since you probably could not prove that the fire wasn't caused by dust or other debris in the system.
    Regards.

  • Will Apple replace my product even if its out of warranty?

Ok, so I'm thinking about getting a MacBook Air 11.6" and (although I'm VERY careful with my electronics), I have bad luck and something always seems to go wrong. I was just looking and people were saying that as long as you take it to an apple store and prove to them that it's legitimately broken, they will fix/repare it, even if it's out of warranty. Is this true?

    Generally not.
Like any manufacturer, if Apple has a "run" of a particular problem, they may extend the warranty on that component.
Sometimes if a problem occurs shortly after the warranty runs out, they'll cover part or all of a repair.
All Macs come with a one-year warranty, but you can purchase AppleCare to extend it to 3 years. Most extended warranties aren't worth it, but this one is. Note that it does not cover theft or things like liquid spillage. You can get it direct from Apple, but sometimes at a discount from resellers. See http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/applecare for details.

  • Will apple replace my product if I found any cosmetic damage after online purchase.

    Title.

The estimated delivery dates generally arrive more quickly than the estime. You can make arrangements with the carrier to leave the package with a neighbor, pick it up at the facility, etc. I've had very good luck with FedEx (less so with UPS) delivering a package within a 2-hour time frame.

  • I have an iphone 5 that i trade with a family member they have coverage on it. now the iphones sleep wake button doesnt work sometimes can apple replace my iphone even if i dont have the box or recipit to the product or can they just repair it?

i have an iphone 5 that i traded with from a family member. its has coverage but now the sleep/wake button doesnt work sometimes. can apple replace my iphone and give me a new one or is it just something they can repair? i dont have the box or recipit to apple care or the iphone

Apple can fix it without your receipt or box. They pull the serial number from the device and determine warranty status from that.  Hopefully ApplCare was registered to the product before you lost the receipt though.  If not, you can go back to the point of purchase and obtain your AppleCare receipt and Apple can help attach it to the iPhone.

  • Trackpad Failure for no Known Reason - Should Apple be Held Accountable?

About a week and a half ago while using my MacBook Pro, purchased December 31st, 2009, I began experiencing intermittent erratic trackpad behavior.  Untouched, the cursor would move across the screen and even opened Garage Band on its own.  I was unable to use the trackpad due to this, as the cursor would jump around causing me to select things unintentionally.   I attempted restarting, cleaning the trackpad, cleaning my hands, etc.  The only way I was able to use the computer was by plugging in a USB mouse and selecting the option of turning the trackpad off when a mouse is present.
I began searching the discussions on here to determine what may be the problem at hand.  I hadn't spilled anything or mishandled the laptop in any way, so that was not to blame.  I came across discussions of battery swelling disrupting trackpad operation and thought it seemed possible.  Not wanting to attempt a diagnosis on my own, I called customer service.  The woman I spoke with said it didn't sound like a software issue as the mouse did not behave in the same manner.  She did tell me that because my phone support had expired I would have to pay a fee to receive any troubleshooting help.  This infuriated me - a company not willing to help a customer troubleshoot via the phone???  Mindy informed me that I could take it to the nearest apple store (over an hour away, might I add) and see if they could be any help.  She set up an appointment for me the next day at 3:00.
At the Apple store, I checked in with a man whose role was not entirely apparent to me; he seemed disinterested in the swarm of people in the store and more focused on looking important with his iPad (A sales rep. had to tell me that he was the one I would need to check in with - I don't even think Mr. iPad made direct eye contact with me during this process).  After I was paired up with my designated  "Genius" I informed him of the problem, and what I suspected it might be.  He turned the computer off and back on running his diagnostic tests.  Nothing seemed to be out of sorts, so he took it to the back to inspect the innards of my beloved MacBook Pro.  He came back a few minutes later, and told me the battery looked fine, and that everything else looked fine as well.  He then told me that the trackpad itself must be to blame, and that it would cost me 50 some dollars and an additional 30 something for labor.  I asked why the trackpad was malfunctioning, as I had taken good care of my computer.  I was informed that sometimes trackpads stop working.  Sure, they may stop working, but not on a computer under two years old that shows no signs of mishandling!  I told him I shouldn't be expected to pay for this due to this reason.  He told me that he couldn't waive the parts fee and that IT WAS A CHEAP REPAIR ANYWAYS.  I was appalled and told him that actually, $50 is a lot of money to me - the computer was a gift and I don't take $50 lightly.  He backtracked, saying that in comparison to other repairs it was cheap.  I asked to speak with his manager, who came out and told me the same thing.  They would waive the labor fee and charge me for the part.  The labor wound up taking about 15 minutes - definitely not justifying the cost of the "labor".  The final paperwork I received stated:
    Issue Verified:  No
    Known Liquid Damage:  No
    Issue:  Trackpad tracking issues
Steps to Reproduce:  Checked at the bar
Proposed Resolution:  Replace trackpad and waive labor
Cosmetic Condition:  Minor scratched and abrasions
Seeing as how a laptop is useless without the mouse, and the fact that I have no car and had to get a ride for the over-an-hour trip, I really had no choice but to have them replace the trackpad.  I am, however, FURIOUS that I was made to pay for a new trackpad when I had done nothing to cause the first one to fail.  I thought that when you purchased a MacBook PRO that you were purchasing a top of the line product "DESIGNED TO LAST...FOR A LONG, PRODUCTIVE LIFE".  No one in their right mind would shell out over a grand for a machine designed to last...less than two years!  I have babied this computer and rarely ever take it of the house - solely because I did not want to make a stupid mistake and ruin a very expensive, very important piece of equipment!
I am wondering if Apple is ever held accountable for these sorts of issues?  In the case that a piece of hardware malfunctions on an otherwise pristine computer with no known reason, should Apple be obligated to fix the part?  As Apple states that their products are "designed to last for a long, productive life", shouldn't they be required to fix problems like this?  Isn't that false advertising?  I wasn't even given a real reason as to why my trackpad failed!  Also, if the trackpad has a manufacturing/design error, Apple should be required to replace this for me - warranty or not.  (After over a month of calling about a problem with an iPod out of warranty for over a year, I finally found a rep who recognized the manufacturing error presented and had it repaired, free of charge).
Has anyone else had success in holding Apple accountable for this on a product that is out of warranty?  If so, I would love to hear about it - I am going to be writing Apple a formal letter of complaint and would like to know if anyone has had them own up to the problem, along with the case #.  Also, does anyone know what could have caused the trackpad to malfunction in the first place?

This is going to be a hard argument and you may not like the answer.
Were you ever offered the AppleCare extended warranty when you purchased your MBP? Like you said above ..its a "Pro" model and it should have good quality parts.  Believe it or not the MBP is very well made.  However, like all stuff we buy it there is a chance it breaks.  Unfortunately you had a failure.  There isn't much you can do when you purchased the MBP you were made aware of the one year warranty and were giving the option to extend the warranty through AppleCare.  Thats the arguement that Apple is going to make.
If I were you I wouldn't write a angry letter to Apple.  If you write a reasonable letter that expresses your concerns over the quality of the Apple product you will be suprised what you may receive rather then writing a angry blast of their company.  Basically write the letter step away from it for a couple hours reread and rewrite it.

  • What to do if apple replaced the wrong part?

my macbook pro has intermittently been experiencing issues that usually point to a defective graphics card (will start up it up and the display will be distorted and almost looks like pinstripe black and white where you can barely read what is on the screen and then sometimes the screen will go black entirely.  it will come back on and then again a few days later while using, the display will distort again).  i have spoken to several apple employees and the genius at the store even concluded this is most likely an issue with the graphics card and will require replacement of the logic board, so i paid out of pocket the $310 plus tax since it is out of warranty/applecare and they shipped it out to the repair facility.  i just received it today and the product repair summary states that the facility replaced the "display clamshell glossy 15 in" which obviously is not the logic board.
i will give the benefit of the doubt that the technician may have determined that this is the appropriate part to replace, but what happens if the issue still occurs? will apple replace the logic board at no cost to me? i don't believe i should have to pay for this again being that the logic board was diagnosed in the store as the problem.
i have the genius assessment and work authorization that specifies replacement of the logic board, specifically he wrote:
Proposed Resolution: --send to the apple repair center
--replace the main logic board and any other necessary component

easily, i am asking for advice from anyone else who has possibly had a similar experience to see how it was resolved.
i am sure you, like myself have a job and a lot of things going on in life where it is very difficult to get to an apple store in time to argue with the manager over apple's possible mistake and would prefer asking others so i do not have to rearrange my schedule several weeks in advance in order to get there.
please do us both a favor, rather than waste moments of both of our lives that we will never get back by responding with sarcasm, just do not reply at all and let me see if someone else has had this experience.
