Should I have received a Lion OSX DVD w/ new iMac?

Can't find it anywhere...  how would I reinstall later on??

Good idea with the SL disk, but it'll depend on the build of the new machine - at some point they will no longer accept or be able to boot with the older OS. And, I've been told that if your Mac comes with lion preinstalled, you cannot download it from MAS (because it wasn't purchased there), a fact that may open up an entire new can or worms.

When purchased together, AppleCare is automatically activated and applied to your device, so no proof or registration is usually required. Apple usually sends documentation of coverage after a few days, though. If you didn't receive the documentation, it may have been lost in the mail. You can confirm coverage here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If that doesn't show the correct coverage (the expiration should be two years from your date of purchase) and it's been at least a couple of weeks since you purchased, call Apple support, ask to speak with someone in AppleCare Plan Administration, and explain the mistake to them.

If you have the original movie files, you'd be much better converting those, otherwise try MPEGstreamclip.

  • I have two Macs: an MBA and the new iMac.  Is there a way to have iTunes and all the content in it identical on both machines?

I have two Macs: an MBA and the new iMac.  Is there a way to have iTunes and all the content in it identical on both machines?

Yes you can copy the content to your new machine and use Home Sharing to keep the content identical
Connect the two machines via an ethernet cable it is 3 times faster than Wifi. Turn wifi off on one machine to enforce ethernet connection
In System Preferences, Sharing turn on File Sharing
    Then
Copy the music/itunes folder from the Macbook pro to the music/ folder on the imac
Both machines should now have the same library
    Disconnect H the ethernet cable
Set up Home Sharing and under Settings at the bottom of the Home Sharing page. Select to transfer new purchases.
Do the same on the other machine.
Then when you r machines are connected by wifi and each time you start itunes it will transfer your new purchases

  • Should i have received an operating DVD with my new mac?

My mac is a few years old, drive's getting full so I thought its time for a wipe and re-install, or more likely a larger drive. The problem is I never received an OSX installation disk when I bought it direct from apple. Should I have done? I dont want to have to buy a new disk.

Yes, the discs were included in the box. You can purchase replacements from Apple:

  • Should I have received a wired keyboard?

When I bought my iMac i opted to pay extra for a wireless keyboard... It's fab, but not so fab when the batteries run out and I can't use my computer as I have no replacement batteries to hand.
So I'm wondering if I ought to have got a wired keyboard in the box as part of the deal. Afterall, it does say in the requirements for a wireless keyboard "Existing keyboard and mouse for initial setup"

It frankly all depends upon how you ordered your machine.
If, for example, you ordered it as a CTO (configure to order) model at an online Apple Store, they your wireless keyboard was bundled at a discount, replacing the wired keyboard you would otherwise have received. If you ordered a standard machine or a CTO model without changing the keyboard option, and ordered a wireless keyboard as an additional accessory in your cart, you would have received both keyboards.

  • Trying to install iwork '09 from dvd on new imac with no dvd drive.....iwork is brand new (bought off ebay) in unopened box....I have at my disposal an older imac with dvd drive and a 16GB thumb drive...what is best way to load iwork on the new imac?

bought my mom a new imac this xmas...didn't realize it has no dvd drive....just picked up a new unopened version of iwork '09 for her to use off of ebay....need to get it loaded on the new dvddriveless imac......I have an imac at my house with a drive and a thumb drive i could bring over to her house if I could somehow burn an image of the iwork dvd on the thumb drive...is this possible?  is there a better solution other than buying an external dvd drive?

First use Disk Utilty to make a disk image of the iWork disc on your iMac. Then there are two easy ways to install on your mothers new iMac. One is to copy to your USB thumb drive, visit your mother and install from the thumb drive. The other is to use a free upload and download service like www.wetransfer.com. Upload the .dmg disk image via www.wetransfer.com, then your mother downloads and installs. After installation you'll need to update iWork for Mountain Lion compatibility.

  • (Is this  needed) If have prior GB Versions Uninstalled on a new iMac +GB9'

    ??
    Hi,
I used (prior) a eMac with Ilife V1 and V2 and hence GB 1 and GB 2, along with Jam Pack 1
(Discontinued. Non Genre Jam Pack 1) I bought a new Imac with GB 9' installed and (*this may be a be a very dumb question*) , ? are there items (Virtual Instruments and Loops from those two versions not included With iLife 9' and GB 5 installed on the iMac + are prior items included from prior iLife Versions (including V3and V4 of G-Band (iLife 06 and 08 I believe) or as some do some do not refer to the version of Garageband as V9 with iLife 09 (makes sense to me)
I have the earlier discs from iLife (V1 and V2) but do not want to corrupt GB either, I am planning to install the Jam Pack 1 and update 1.01, and the update(s) for GB 5 (iLife 9') 5.01 and 5.2 or 5.02 ?(I have those updates bookmarked) * or should I procede with GB 9 and any Jam pack Install's and updates to GB 9 and not worry about prior versions ( I do have 4 sealed Jam Packs, (left that way) as I may go to LE or Logic *and from what (different at times) I have read or told,The current 5 Jam packs are included in Logic Studio (I have all but World Music, have Rhythm Section, RemixTools, Voices and Symphony) I bought them this summer (new and sealed)(Not bootlegs or opened from a Apple Reseller (New and Refurbished) who holds a annual online Garage Sale and this year I checked and was able to get the four (at great prices) so Its a possible I may sell them to put sale proceeds toward LE or Logic Studio (but first my Audio Interface does not have Snow Leopard Drivers (topped at Leopard) it was a good run, and I need to check my MIDI Keyboard controller (though drivers are available through OSX 10.6.6 , I figured something or more than 1 gear item might not be compatible and its the Audio Interface and compared to when i bought a Tascam US-122 (USB 1.1) the market and options have exploded in choices
I bought and returned one Firewire 400 unit as it was just way to complex and there was no real reason for it (and I really researched too, my bad, choice) I did see a Unit from Namm 11 Winter (Jan 2011) a ART Dual Tube Pre USB 2.0 and has a optional power supply, works on batteries, and USB 2.0 power also (has two combo XLR/14 Inst Ins, 2 1/4 outs for monitors, Two 1/4 line inserts, and headphones out and SP/DIF out. The unit I returned was $399.99
and this unit with Power supply is $157.00, no MIDI but that is workable (or a work around is available if needed, for not that expensive, its due to ship late February 2011 so still time to think and look at new products from NAMM and sales will occur as well, the second choice (and a fine unit (imho) a Lexicon U42S I-Onix Series is USB 2.0 plus Power supply and 4 dbx mic preamps is $329.95 which is more than I do want to spend and it debuted at NAMM in 2009
(Winter) and with technology and Operating System updates and drivers that is a lot of time between then and now . Though no bash against Lexicon, They make great Reverb Hardware and Plugins plus other gear.
*The ART Product has no drivers whew..
Thanks for listening and any input + or - would be appreciated
    * I did read on the Current Jam-packs that GB 2 is required (but GB9 works fine ) so I think based on its install and going forward am fine, just wondering if leaving behind virtual Instruments etc from GB 1 and 2 ?
Jam pack 1 I do not understand why that was discontinued, the Amps, effects and VI are great! loops are fine as well
    Sincerely,

  • I'm trying to have existing Exchange accounts setup on my new iMac and can't get it to work.

I have existing Exchange accounts setup on my iPhone and iPad to access my work email.  I'm trying to do the same on my new iMac and can't get it to work.  I have it setup the same as my iPad and it asks me for my password over and over...any suggestions?

    Hi mwatts18,
As a preliminary troubleshooting step, you should reference the information in the following article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
I would especially suggest that you delete the account and re-add it, making sure that you are entering the correct password when you add the account. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • DVD on new iMac won't play

I'm trying to play a commercially made DVD on my new iMac with Mt. Lion.  The preferences are set to play automatically when a DVD is inserted.  The title page shows up, but it won't play.  When I click the play button, the 'stop' button flashes momentarily, then shows the 'play' button again.  I've tried to play it using menu commands, the space bar and hitting the play button.  Each time the play triangle symbol flashes to the parallel lines, but goes right back to the play triangle.  This is a new imac.  I've not tried to play a DVD on it before.  ANyone have any ideas?

Since you list your operating system as 10.7.4, I would guess that this is NOT a "New" iMac.  10.8 has been the installed OS on new systems for quite some time.  Also the new iMacs releaased last month do not contain an optical disc device.  If you need a DVD player (or recorder) you will have to buy an external SuperDrive (or other similar device).
Next thing when trying to play a DVD for the first time, there is normally a DVD Region selection window that opens.  There are several regions in the world and the US and some other countries use region 1.  You need to have admin privlieges to make the change.  ALSO REMEMBER that there are only a total of five changes you can make to the region setting.  Once you make the fifth change, and that number includes the first region you select, you are stuck with remaining on the fifth change you made.
Now if the region had been changed by someone previously and you are already on the fifth change and the region selected for the fifth change does not match your DVD;s region, well you are out of luck.
You may want to check on the region setting info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Note that the region code setting is hardware based and will not be changed by even a complete erase of the hard drive and reinstalling an OS.
Another thing to keep in mind is that recent updates to the OS will sometimes give "funny" results when you are using an external monitor (or projector).  Copyright/Digital RightManagment will sometimes prevent display with anything plugged in to the Thunderbolt or MiniDisplay Port.

  • Can I use my backup drive (OSX) on my new IMAC?

I just bought a new iMac and I made the upgrade to Mavericks. I have a backup on an external HD made with time machine from my former iMac.
Will my new Mac read my backup drive if I plug it in? I'd just like to make sure before I go any further.
Edit: my question is not about transfering the files (I might have to do this, but it would fill up my HD), but about reading the files and using the applications from the external drive.

Depends on what these 'files' are..... docs, pics, anything in your User folder is fine; I was talking earlier about applications - those should be moved to your internal. You can also direct your iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie libraries to your external instead of having them on your internal. If you do move applications manually, it's a bit difficult depending on the app and its' install methods as you may not get all the bits and pieces by simply dragging the app icon. And, another concern are possible registration keys with some apps.
Right now it's too late to use Setup Assistant, but..... you could simply invoke recovery (Command + R keys during startup or restart), once there, go into Disk Utility, wipe your drive, and reinstall Mac OS - during that setup phase, do use Setup Assistant right at the beginning. After that, simply go back to the app store and reinstall Mavericks. A bit more time consuming, but you would have it just the way you want it!

  • I have an external hard drive with my new iMac.  I am trying to load Age of Empires III on the new computer.  I am supposed to drag the icon onto my hard drive icon.  Where is that?

New iMac and not a computer whiz.  I have a new iMac with an external drive.  I am trying to load an old Mac game on it.  The Age of Empires icon tells me to drag it to the hard drive icon.  Where is that?  I have tried finder and launch pad.  No luck.

Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu and find the internal drive.
