Shutdown startup of oracle vm

Hi experts
I am new to VM
Could you let me know the shutdown startup process for oracle vm manager/server on windows and linux
thanks

Hi,
Not sure precisely what you are after here, but....VM Server is your xen based hypervisor that hosts your guest virtual machines. VM manager is the web based tool you use to mange your guests and to some extent you VM Server.
In my config, I have VM Server running on a machine - it installs as the only OS. In this I have two guest machines installed.
My VM manager is installed in a OEL5 guest on virtualbox.
You can start the VM Manager independently of the Server if the manager isn't installed on the Server. Basically it will show the status of all know servers and guests; in my setup, I have to boot the VM Server manually and then I can connect to it from the VM manager and start / stop the guests
This concepts are clearly shown in the VM v3.x manual.

  • SAP Shutdown Necessary During Oracle Backup via BRBACKUP ?

    Hi,
    Is it necessary to shutdown SAP before backing up the Oracle database via BRBACKUP ?
    The BRBACKUP will run cold db backup.
    What's the windows script to shutdown & startup SAP v6 ?
    TIA !
    DL

    Hi Desmond,
    That is depends upon the backup type you are selecting.
    If you are going to take a cold backup brbackup will shutdowns the database and takes backup.
    If you are going for a online backup it will take backup without sutting down database.
    And here no need to shutdown database manually, brbackup shutdowns database and takes backup.
    I didn't understand your second query, what is the script?

    I need to execute shutdown/ startup database commands from a java application. I have tried wrapping these in sql / sh file using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("z:\\sql\\shut.sql"), but keep getting:
    java.io.IOException: CreateProcess
    any ideas ?

    Hi,
    I don't see why the 11g Drivers won't work for earlier releases of the DB as long as you follow the steps in the documentation. Have you tried it?

  • Automatic startup/shutdown script - 3 Oracle Home

    Hi All,
    We have a server which has 3 Oracle Home - 8i/9i/10g.
    So i am confused about configuring automatic startup/shutdown scripts.
    Can you guys please let me know how to setup automatic startup/shutdown for these multiple Oracle Homes.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Bellow is a HP-UX script that can help. Create three scripts like oracle8, oracle9, oracle10 with correct path values. and than decide the runlevels and create soft links for the scripts you created, for example;
    Under /sbin/rc3.d
    ln -s /sbin/init.d/oracle10 S999oracle10
    Under /sbin/rc1.d and /sbin/rc2.d
    ln -s /sbin/init.d/oracle10 C9oracle10
    AUTOMATIC STARTUP/SHUTDOWN SCRIPT
    $vi /sbin/init.d/oracle10
    #!/sbin/sh
    # NOTE: This script is not configurable! Any changes made to this
    # scipt will be overwritten when you upgrade to the next
    # release of HP-UX.
    # WARNING: Changing this script in any way may lead to a system that
    # is unbootable. Do not modify this script.
    # NOTE:
    # For ORACLE:
    PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin
    export PATH
    ORA_HOME="/oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0"
    ORA_OWNR="oracle"
    rval=0
    set_return() {
    x=$?
    if [ $x -ne 0 ]; then
    echo "EXIT CODE: $x"
    rval=1
    fi
    case $1 in
    start)
    # Oracle listener and instance startup
    echo -n "Starting Oracle: "
    su - $ORA_OWNR -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0"
    echo "OK DB started"
    stop)
    # Oracle listener and instance shutdown

    su - $ORA_OWNR -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/dbshut /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0"
    echo "OK DB shutdown"
    reload|restart)

  • Oracle Shutdown/Startup Batch

    I need to create a batch file where I can shutdown and startup Oracle 10g database on Windows Server 2003.

    Is there any reason why you cannot use the services in Windows?
    Find the service:
    sc query | findstr Oracle
    Stop the service:
    sc stop <nameOfService>
    To see the status:
    sc query <nameOfService>
    Start the service:
    sc start <nameOfService>
    You can also see the status in services (services.msc).

  • Instance startup / shutdown (Solaris 9 Oracle 9i)

    Morning Guys, How was the weekend? Hope everybody enjoyed.
    I have 2 instances running in one machine. I have just performed a shutdown but only 1 intance is down the other one is still running, how do I shutdown the other one as well. The same goes for Startup can I perform the startup for both of the instances seperately.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Are the 2 instances running on 2 databases?
    if yes simply connect to each database by user sys@service_name and shut it down.
    conn sys/sys_pass@service_name1 as sysdba
    shutdown immediate;
    conn sys/sys_pass@service_name2 as sysdba
    shutdown immediate;

  • SHUTDOWN ABORT in ORACLE 10g

    Hi,
    I wrote a procedure to be run before reinstalling a database. As I am not interested in rolling back, or waiting for transactions to finish, I am using SHUTDOWN ABORT to drop users. Everything works well in ORACLE 9i but it cannot restart in 10g - error:
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
    descriptor.
    The procedure looks like:
    SHUTDOWN ABORT
    STARTUP RESTRICT
    declare
    cursor cnt_usr is
    Select username from dba_users where username in (....some user names);
    str_cmd varchar2(400):='';
    begin
    FOR usr IN cnt_usr LOOP
    BEGIN
    str_cmd := 'DROP USER '|| usr.username || ' CASCADE ' ;
    dbms_output.put_line ('Executing: '|| str_cmd);
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE str_cmd;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN str_cmd := ' ';
    END;
    END LOOP;
    end;
    ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    exit;
    Any idea what may cause the error?
    Thank you
    Dan

    > You do know that Abort means to kill the database.
    Incorrect. It simply means that the database is shutdown in an inconsistent state - i.e. with "open" transactions and thus "dirty" data.
    However, Oracle is designed as a very robust database and this is not a problem. It simply gets the database into a consistent state again on the next startup.
    The risk is that something or someone interferes (mucks up) Oracle data files before the next db start - without the redo logs for example, the instance will have a hard time trying to recover the database and get it into a consistent state.
    The danger is thus not Oracle, but the Idiot Factor one tends to get with cowboy-type administrators.
    What is questionable though is the OP's script that requires the database to be shutdown and started up for a series of drop schemas. That is using a Very Large Hammer to drive in a Very Small Nail. It is a total overkill - not too mention impacting database availability.. And I do not think that our environment is so special/unique that it the exception to measure Oracle instance uptime in 1000's of hours.

  • Automatic Startup in Oracle 10.2.02 on Solaris 10 X86

    I have create the /etc/init.d/oratab from the sample of
    Automating Database Startup and Shutdown on Other Operating Systems
    by following script:
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    ORACLE=oracle
    PATH=${PATH}:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
    export ORACLE_HOME PATH
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart $ORACLE_HOME
    But I got the ERROR log
    SQL> ERROR:
    ORA-12546: TNS:permission denied
    SQL> ORA-12546: TNS:permission denied
    SQL>
    from $ORACLE_HOME/startup.log
    What's Wrong with the dbora script ?

    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart $ORACLE_HOME
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart will be sufficient, script will read the oratab file (on Solaris usual location of oratab is in /var/opt/oracle) and starts all SID that have Y flag set.
    To "user52":
    check ur privs on folder;
    be sure the permissions are 777.This is not good approach from security point of view, really - 755 is fine and sufficient.

  • ORA-00600 when shutdown in an Oracle 10G Database

    Each time we shutdown the database it raises an ORA 600 error.
    We are using ASM, the databases (+ASM, "mercap") startup clean, not when shutdown.
    Regards,
    T.

    Justin,
    Thanks very much for the tip!
    Do you know if Oracle 10g has any kind of built-in tool for editing data? I have heard of "The Vault", but that appears to be a tool for administering database users, reports, etc. I am looking for some kind of tool that shows the data in a grid layout (like Microsoft Excel) and allows someone to edit and save data in that grid. A web-based tool would be best, but a desktop tool (especially if it's already part of Oracle 10g) would also be good.
    Thanks again,
    Rachel

  • AURORA$SERVER$SHUTDOWN/Startup err

    Background: oracle 8.1.7(DB)
    Application developed in J2EE
    Hi
    1)I just want to know who calls these 2 triggers
    AURORA$SERVER$SHUTDOWN
    AURORA$SERVER$STARTUP
    After some digging up I have found these triggers call dbms_java.serverstartup and shutdown procedure, which internally call the 2 java classes:
    PROCEDURE server_startup as language java name
    'oracle.aurora.rdbms.Server.serverStartup()' ;
    PROCEDURE server_shutdown as language java name
    'oracle.aurora.rdbms.Server.serverShutdown()' ;
    2)where can I find the classes,so that I can see what exactly they are doing.
    3) Any doc to find out the necessary configuration for the oracle db(8.1.7) if app is developed in J2EE?!
    Thanks in advance
    Madhusri

    Madhursi,
    Are you saying that you have no choice but to use the Oracle database-embedded J2EE application server? Well then, I guess the "luck" part is the only part of my post that will help you.
    Would you continue watching a TV where only the sound works (and no picture)?
    Would you continue driving a car that has only three wheels (and is missing the fourth)?
    Oracle has admitted that the database embedded J2EE application server does not work. Why do you persist in trying to use it?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.
