SimController - Touch and gesture not working

I'm running the "demo_mobile" Starling 1.2 sample in the trial version of flash CS6 on Windows 7.
When I crtl-enter to run it in the IDE, or go via Debug > Debug Movie > in Air Debug Launcher, I see the SimController appear.
I navigate to the Touch and gesture panel and tick the box to activate the semi-transparent touch layer over my running swf.
I see the little 'glow' icon to show where my touch should occur, but my clicks/touches are never registered.
I've tried this with Air 3.2, Air3.4, Air 3.4.0.2540 and Air 3.5.0.690 with the same negative results.
Am I missing something simple here?
cheers,
Alex

Are you saying you desire TouchEvent to work on desktop or you simply tried it as a desktop app to see if it would work?
TouchEvent works for me perfectly fine in both AIR for Mobile and AIR for Desktop. Here's simple sample code for a AS for Mobile project:
Main.as:
package
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.geom.Rectangle;
    import starling.core.Starling;
    [SWF(frameRate=60,width=768,height=1024)]
    public class Main extends Sprite
        private var _starling:Starling;
        public function Main()
            addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, _onActivate);
            Starling.multitouchEnabled = true;
        protected function _onActivate(event:Event):void
            removeEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, _onActivate);
            // start starling, iPad portrait
            _starling = new Starling(TouchDemo, this.stage, new Rectangle(0,0,768,1024));
            _starling.start();
TouchDemo.as:
package
    import starling.display.Quad;
    import starling.display.Sprite;
    import starling.events.Event;
    import starling.events.Touch;
    import starling.events.TouchEvent;
    import starling.events.TouchPhase;
    public class TouchDemo extends Sprite
        private var _q:Quad;
        public function TouchDemo()
            super();
            addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, _onAdded);
        private function _onAdded(e:Event):void
            removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, _onAdded);
            // make a quad
            _q = new Quad(150,50,0xFF0000);
            addChild(_q);
            // listen for touch
            _q.addEventListener(TouchEvent.TOUCH, _onTouch);
        private function _onTouch(e:TouchEvent):void
            // get all touches
            const touches:Vector.<Touch> = e.getTouches(_q);
            // phase ending (finger release)?
            for each (var touch:Touch in touches)
                if (touch.phase == TouchPhase.ENDED)
                    trace("Touch ended on quad!");
Obviously your XML needs renderMode set to "direct". That's just testing on an iPad resolution in portrait (for no specific reason).
I converted that to an Actionscript Project (AIR desktop) and the only thing I changed in Main.as was waiting for Event.ENTER_FRAME instead of Event.ACTIVATE. Both trace "Touch has ended on quad!" as soon as I let my mouse up. This is tested in the AIR for iOS and AIR for Desktop simulator.
There's no problem with TouchEvent working. You'll have to dig deeper in your controls code and see if any event propagation is being stopped. There's really no othe reason you wouldn't receive a TouchEvent if you registered it on your object properly.

  • Backing up my ipod touch and its not working?

    hi guys...just wondering if anybody would be able to help me out with the problem i'm having with my ipod touch? either 2nd or 3rd generation 8GB
    yesterday-thursday, i conncted my ipod to the computer and to itunes and it proceeded to do a backup, this then took around 3 hours. itunes then wanted to update the software on my ipod to 4.2.1 so i let this do so. after the update had been carried out, itunes told me it needed to restore my ipod, i also let it do this as i had done a back up and would be able to put everything that was on my ipod touch back onto it once the restoration had been done. This took a few minutes and then itunes asked me which backup i wanted to restore my ipod from, i restored this from the most recent backup that i had made just a few hours before hand and waited another couple of hours for this to be carried out. when the process was finished i took my ipod out of the computer, only to realise that my ipod touch only had apps that i have previously deleted, it didn't have any of my new apps on it and no music had been added. this is a problem for me as i had bought an album, various songs and a couple of apps which all cost me a lot of money on the app and itunes store that is avaliable on my ipod touch, and it seems to have dissappeared as the backup has not picked and of these new things and now i'm wondering if i would be able to get any of this back? my ipod now has nothing but the orginal settings on it. i hope someone will have a solution to this as it has caused alot of upset.

    Kate,
    Are these purchases not in your iTunes library?  Content such as music, movies, apps, etc. are not included in the backup of your iPod.  These all need to be transferred to your iTunes library seperately by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases with your iPod Touch still connected.
    See this article about redownloading your missing purchases.

  • Multi-touch trackpad gestures not working (Macbook pro 15" unibody)

    Hi,
    I have a 5 day old Macbook Pro and since yesterday ive been having an intermittent fault with the 3 and 4 finger gestures on the track pad. They stop working and don't even work on restart. the computer needs to be shutdown then turned on again for it to work. When it wasn't working, i created a new user account and switched to that and it worked fine, when i switched back to my account it carried on working fine as well. I do have parallels installed with windows xp but use that rarely and the problem hasn't occurred when i have that on (only reason i mention is is that i noticed the fault a few hours after installing parallels). One of the times the problem occurred is when the computer came out of standby.
    Is this a software issue or hardware issue? Does apple know about it and are they making a fix?
    Thanx!!

    That's really bizarre! I've been experiencing the same problems. Today my three/four finger multitouch gestures stopped working altogether! Nothing seemed to resolve the problem (restart, shut down, etc).I did however follow your advice of creating a new user account and logging in to see if multitouch works...low and behold, it worked! I then logged off and signed back into my primary user account and multitouch continued to work! This must be a software issue (I'm guessing). I just deleted the temporary user account and everything seems to be working fine. I set up a Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow - I'll see if they have any further suggestions.
    Thanks!

  • Ipod touch and itunes not working with vista?

    I bought a 32gb ipod touch(2nd gen) today and so far it's been nothing but a massive headache for hours. I've had an ipod video(30gb) for three years now and it's always been perfect, hasn't give me an ounce of trouble.
    I get home, checked that I had the current itunes version, and then plugged in my ipod touch. I immediately got an itunes error saying that the apple mobile support device was out of date, and I had to re-install itunes. I did that but it still didn't work, it wouldn't recognize my ipod touch. I deleted all my itunes and apple folders and restarted(and uninstalled). Now my ipod still won't recognize when i plug it in on my desktop, it gives me an intunes error saying something like " your ipod touch cannot work because you dont have the 64bit version blah blah ". Which is ridiculous because I'm on windows vista 64bit, and the version of itunes I got was the 64 bit, i checked it three times and even re-downloaded/installed it.
    I tried my second desktop which is on windows XP and it wouldn't recognize my ipod touch either. Then finally I took out my laptop which is windows XP, and plugged in my ipod touch. My ipod touch works fine on my laptop, but not on my other two desktops.
    I need for it to work on my main desktop(the one with vista) because it has all my music.
    So any ideas as to why this is happening? and how to fix it.

    Hi,
    What is the name of the iTunes installer file you used? Try downloading and installing the iTunes again from the iTunes64Setup.exe file located here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_1_1_for_Windows__64_bit
    If the issue persists, verify the usbaapl64.sys driver is being used by following the steps under *Verify iPhone Driver/Service Installation* in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    If the issue is not resolved after installing iTunes from the iTunes64Setup.exe file and the correct driver is being used, reconfigure or disable the security software on the PC and reinstall iTunes.

  • Touch and PC not working on same WiFi connection

    I'm having trouble getting my touch to work on my home WiFi ONLY when my PC laptop is connected. It says it's connected but when I open Safari it says "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server". If I disconnect my laptop, and restart my modem then my touch connects perfectly and I can browse the web. However, at this stage, if I connect my PC to the WiFi, it connects but I am unable to browse the web.
    Any ideas anyone?? It's really annoying to have to switch the router off everytime I want to swap devices!

    Did it do a system update for the Touch aswell? It did for me when I selected to Restore. Did you enter the password for your network? If none of this is working, I suggest you go to your nearest Apple Store and let them look at it. They can confirm if its faulty or not

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have an ipod touch 3rd generation and the whole touch screen is not working.

    I have a 32gb ipod which I bought for fifty dollars and when i bought it had a pretty baddly cracked screen but thing is it worked fine. Every part of the screen worked fine; it was as senstive where the screen was cracked as the areas of the screen that were not cracked. I dropped it a couple times from like two or three feet on two a hard wood floor about four times all it did was make the cracks on the screen a little worse. Then one day I dropped it from about a foot and now the whole touch screen is not working does anyone know why this is. They told me at the ipod store to get a new one would be 130 to trade mine in. But the thing is I very mechanically inclined and I am very good with electrionics; I was planing on buying the glass for fifty bucks and putting it on myself because I read how to do it and I am more then capapble of doing it. But now since the touch screen is now working; do I need a new screen along with a new glass? See the thing is because I think both those part cost 120 together. Which would not be worth me doing that when I can go to the ipod store and they would trade me a new one for 130 bucks. But the issue is, they told me at the ipod store they would have to look and see how damaged the ipod is to see if they will exchange it. My screen is severly cracked; also I have a dent that is a half inch long and 1/8th inch deep in the back of my ipod and its very scracthed up; do you thing an ipod store would exchange it in the condition it is in. Also has anybody had this problem before and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to take it apart and fix it my self without buying any new parts.

    If I were you, I would pay the $130 for a replacement. Then you can be sure that it has all the working parts it needs.

  • I have bought  three iPhone 6  one for me and one each for my two kids  we have just done the update iOS 8.01 now all phone  do not connect to service provider and touch id is not working ,  APPLE HELP !!!!

    i phones  updated iso 8.01 all three phones  will not connect to service provider and touch id
    will not work  APPLE HELP !!!!!!!!!
    anyone know  i fix as  i have spent over 2000 pound on three phones that won't work
    all three where working fine until the 8.01 update

    Apple just pulled the update because it is a major fubar! You will have to rollback your iPhone to the base iOS 8 using iTunes and Apple needs to seriously test its patches!
    Update:
    Simply connect your phone to iTunes and back up your data. Then, click the “Restore iPhone” button and follow the on-screen instructions. It’s a huge pain, but at least it’s better than having your shiny new iPhone turned into a big expensive iPod touch.

  • My touch screen is not working at all and I've tried numerous times to turn it off and on but with no success to getting the touch screen to work again.  Any suggestions to get it back working?

    My touch scree will not work at all.  It just stopped one day and has not worked since.  I've tried numerous times to restart it but with no success at all.  The only tning I haven't tried is resetting it back to it's original setting when I bought it 2 years ago>  Any suggestions??

    When resetting the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod fails to resolve a problem, the problem is likely due to a a hardware problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is then in order.

    Depends on the damage. The battery came loose in my iPhone. When Apple opened the phone to redo the glue they discovered the speakers were also loose. Apple replaced the phone.
    If the glue was properly bonded or had some other flaw Apple will replace the device if the device is still under warranty.
