Simultaenous digital out and analog in

Hi. I am running into an issue with the simultaneous AI (analog in) and DO (digital out) with Athena (www.diamondsystems.com) and LabVIEW (see the supplied files): The original program example supplied by somebody (the attached 060126 file) runs fine with these two simultaneous operations.
However, for my specific requirements, I would have to put a frame (flat sequence) around the DO part (the attached 060131 file), followed by another flat sequence frame that changes another DO state. The reason that I must do this is that I have 2 valves which change states as the AI operation continuous to run.
I have noticed though, once I put those flat sequence frames around it, the DO pauses and doesn't perform the operation until the AI loop is stopped. I have tried to create various local variables but the issue persists. Would there be a workaround for this? Thanks.

I have taken a look at your code. Based upon your description,
and the fact that I do not have the driver for your device, I am not exactly
sure where the program is pausing. I can give you some suggestions to
resolve your problem. When you use a flat sequence structure, every piece
of code in a frame has to finish execution before the next frame will start
execution. If you have code in parallel (i.e. digital output and analog
input) in one frame and the same in a second frame the digital output and analog
output in the second frame will not start until all the code in the first frame
has finished execution. In your case it you have a while loops for
digital input and output in the first frame. When both of these loops
finish execution, you should see the second frame start shortly after.
From your description what I believe is happening is that the digital output in
the first frame is finishing and waiting for the analog input to finish.
After the analog input loop finishes the second frame can start. If you
want the second frame's digital output to start before the loop finishes
execution you will need to take that code out of the frame.

Now, I'm curious about using the digital out to a Panasonic SA-XR55 digital amp/receiver. I know I would lose the CMSS, but the Panasonic can do it's own synthesis of surround. I'm interested in knowing from users about the pros and cons of using the digital out or analog outs. I know the quality of the Xtrememusic DACs are good, and I read that the Panasonic?has a excellent sound output as well. If I choose to use the digital out, I could just use?the motherboard onboard digital out, although only in DVD modes does it do a true bitperfect pass through. In stereo mode, it's still using some of Windows to mix the sound. I could also use the digital out of the card. Seems like a shame to bypass all of that nice analog the card is capable of?
Oh yeah, anyone know if a old Creative Li've 5. I/O panel will work with a Xtrememusic card??Thanks

I believe you might have Skype set to auto-configure your soundcard. Try this, open Skype and go to it's audio setting menu. Disable the option 'Let Skype adjust my sound device setting.'

I have an application that does a bunch of setup, when the user presses go, runs a main loop that does a number of things, saving images, etc., and also periodically sets digital output pins HI, and then LO.
This has to be synchronized with the image retrieval and storage.
It is working well.
I need to add 2 Analog Input signals, also synched with the Digital out and the video capture.
I simplified it all so that in the test application, I start the app, set up some preliminary stuff, and when the user presses go, run a main loop.
I've removed the video component and data file components for now.
The test app will trigger a single digial out (e.g. left puff) and start listening on a single Analog In (e.g., left mic).
When the left mic reaches a trigger level, it flags it, and stops listening.
When the time is up, the digital out (left puff) is set to LO.
If the trigger level hasn't been reached when the digital timer is up, it stops listening then too.
That works okay (the first time).
However, the loop keeps running, as it should. When the next time hack comes around the the same thing is supposed to happen again (either left or right), the digital signal is not tripped, and the Analog In is not started.
And that failure is true for all future loop iterations.
I threw in a counter to show me if the LabVIEW was enterring the case statement, and it is counting up as it should. But the signals are not generated.
If I go to the diagram, and turn on the 'lightbulb' tracking; everything works.
I get the digital output when I should, I get the analog in.
When I turn off tracking, it doesn't work past the first iteration.
I've attached the example file.
Any thoughts are appreciated,

Hi Julian,
That occurred to me as well, but I couldn't see it.
After taking the night off, and looking at it again, I noticed that the 'stop' case was executing directly following the 'start' case (within the same iteration of the while loop).
So, it was actually turning on, but then immediately turning off, before any slow-witted human could discern the action.

Aggregate device using digital out and line out

I am trying to create an aggregate device using the digital out and the line out built into the mac pro. However, I only get sound from the device marked as the clock. Is it possible to aggregate these two outputs? or are they not compatible?

i think the error number was -200022, because the PFI lines for the two PWM counter look all your digital ports.
You can see this if you look on into the pinout for your device. You need an device with some additional digital ports.

Digital out to analog speak

I have just bought a new Audigy 2 ZS, but I have a question regarding the possible use of the digital out of the card for my Logitech 560 speakers, with some kind og adabter/converter, as I find it to be quite a hassle to crawl under my desk everytime I have to use my headset.
I have read that I can use an adabter for my Line Out and 2, but that is lovering the sound on the one that the headset is connected to, so I really don't like that option, as that isn't ideal when gaming and using speakers.

As I see it, I need a device that will make it possible to get my analog speaker witch has two connectors, that tight now occupies the Line Out and 2 on my soundcard, making it impossible to connect my headset at the same time, unless I find a way to use the Digital output
I also don't understand why it's not possible to use the many "pins" on the soundcard, for my headset, as I would guess that when you buy a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum , you get some sort of cable that goes from these "pins" to the front panel? Audio output changed to 'Digital Out' and speakers don't work! Please help!

I'm not exactly sure what's happened, but after starting up my macbook pro, my speakers/audio haven't worked.
The volume control in the menu bar is inactive (looks light grey) and in the Sound menu, I have no option for output devices except for 'Digital Out' - there is no other option for 'external speakers' (as per usual) or anything!
I can plug earphones in, and sound comes out fine... I don't know what may have happened, but I'm really worried - I use my MBP for home & work; I need my speakers to work!!
If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be really grateful. Thank you in advance.

Talked to Tech Support about this when my machine locked up in this same fashion. There's a little "door" inside the headphone jack that can get stuck in the open position and keep the audio from switching back to the internal speakers / stuck in the digital (optical) output position...
The solution: the iPick... It's a toothpick, but if you use it to poke around inside the headphone jack until the little door gets unstuck, it becomes an iPick, and a box of them are very expensive, but they come in lovely colors and are very intuitive to use...
I'm not kidding... Stick a toothpick (or other non-conductive small stick) in the headphone jack and joog it around until it releases the little door...

Combining Digital OUT and Digital IN with DAQmx on E-Series

I'm trying to combine Digital IN and OUT-function with the DAQmx-driver. I have set the first four channels of my E-Series to IN and the other four to OUT. How can I programm this? I encounter problems when changing an OUT-channel.
Earlier I did that with the traditional DAQ driver by setting the port to 240 (first four In, second four OUT)

The easy way i know, is by configure Global Channels at the NI-Max and then use the Linked VI i send.I know it's a elementary VI, but u can continue from this point.

Any cards support simultaneous dolby digital live and analog 2 channel output?

I am searching for a sound card that can output both dolby digital li've and 2-channel analog at the same time. I'm not sure if any of the Creative Labs sound cards can do this.
My Denon receiver outputs 5. in my main home theater room, but outputs only 2 channels to a separate room. I want to be able to play music in both rooms simultaneously. Unfortunately, the digital signal (which feeds the theater) is not converted to analog internally within the Denon receiver to output to the other room. The other room must receive an analog signal.
That is why I am looking for a sound card that can output both at the same time.
Does such a beast exist?

My computer updated to Widnows 8.1, now my sound blaster does not work. Everything else works (DVD, CD, Speakers, etc.) but I have no sound.
I'm not a tech person, a PC user and depend on my surround sound system.
I'd appreciate any help possible.

Mix digital out and out in one task

Hello,
is it possible to create a task that can be used for PWM output and setting of digitals outputs at the same time?
I have a NI-USB 6210 that provides two counters and additional digital outputs.
I have already implemented some code that generates PWM signals on both counters.
At all, I have created one task, containing both counters and I am able to set the duty cycle by using DAQmxWriteCtrFreq.
Now, I also want to write the digital outputs.
I first tried to create a second task that handles the outputs, but I got an error (sorry, forgot the error number) that says that the task can not be created because the digital output resource is already in use (by the PWM task).
Therefore, I think that I have to add the digital output channels to my PWM task, so that there is only one task that handles all my digital signals (counter and bits).
Am I right here or not?
Furthermore, if I am right, how can I set the digital outputs?
Maybe DAQmxWriteDigitalLines is the correct line but how can I tell this function, which channels should be set?
Any help is appreciated.

Using Digital Out and Speakers at the same time.

I was under the assumption that pluging headphones or the fiber-optic cable into the audio out jack switched the internal speakers off; i.e. it was done in hardware. I just realized this can't be true since you get the start-up tone out of the internal speakers even when something is plugged into the Audio Output jack. Apparently the switching is done in software and not hardware. If this is true, does anyone know how I can setup my iMac so that the internal speakers are active even when something is plugged into the jack. As it is now, you can't even configure the internal speakers as long as the jack is in use.

Two ways
Use a Functions palette>>Time and dialog>>'wait' function and set a 1 minute delay( 60000 m sec) delay
If using a state machine, do a state transition only after the specified time has elapsed, as shown in attached vi

Optical digital and analog audio out

I just purchased a Pavilion 500-214 with IDT High Def Audio CODEC / DTS Sound+
Is it possible to get both opitcal digital audio out and analog (speakers/headphones) out at same time? Stereo amp needs access to both for multizone/source function. I can manually pick one or the other before playback - it is clunky in that when switching audio out devices the active will turn off but one switching to does not always turn on. But i really need both simultaneously active for amp to work properly. I have also found rear speaker jack to be more stubborn during switching than front headphone jack.

Z77a GD65 simultaneous audio output via digital and analog jack?

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the digital audio spdif out, and the green 3,5mm jack (I use it for my headphones) at the same time?
When I use the digital out, and I run a 'test' with the analog out, I can hear the test signal so technically it should work.
However, I can't find the right settings to actually use both outputs (same source: for instance iTunes) at the same time.

My old msi cuba 7301 from 2007 has an spdif output, and I was able to use this digital out together with the 3,5mm line out (which I used for my headphones) simultaneously. I understand what you're saying, but I'd say the user should decide in what way he/she wants to use the product . Technically, it shouldn't be a problem, since I can hit the 'test' button and hear the sounds through my headphones via 3,5mm stereo out, while playing music through the digital out.
Anyone from MSI who knows the answer? If it was possible in 2007...

Aux-In is an analog port (4-pin connector/stereo).
Don't connect powered output (= speaker outputs) into soundcard but, if possible, use some low-power connection like Headphones-Out (or if possible then some line-out port).
