Since upgrade to 10.4.5: Faxing via shared fax modem broken?
Since upgrading my Macs to Mac OS X 10.4.5 sending faxes via a shard fax doesn’t work anymore. When attempting to send a fax the error message
"Error while printing"
pops up. However, when faxing directly from the Mac with the shared fax modem, everythings works flawlessly.
This used to work prior to upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.5.
Anyone here with similar experiences?

The kernel panic points to Airport. Either your Airport software is way out of date or your Airport card may not be properly seated or has failed. So the first thing to do is remove the Airport card. If the panics cease, then reinstall the Airport card and see what happens. If it panics again, then remove the Airport card.
The next thing I would do is:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The next thing I would do is download the 10.4.4 Combo Updater and reinstall the update. Then reinstall the Airport card and see if it works properly.
I would suggest that before installing the update that you first boot into safe mode.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Occasionally (once every couple of months) I use the internal modem to send a PDF by fax. This was working OK the last time I tried it on Panther. I have since put Tiger on the machine and this is broken. I can hear the dialtone on the powerbook speaker when the modem goes offhook, but as soon as it starts dialing, it changes to a busy signal. Dialing with a regular phone on the same line works fine. Any suggestions?
Powerbook G4 12 Mac OS X (10.4.5)I have this exact same problem since upgrading to Tiger. However, I'm not sure its really a Tiger issue, per se. I'm not making a long distance call, so there is no issue about prepending a "1" to my calls.
In the Fax PDF dialogue box the following format does not work:
Recipient Name <333-1234>
This format is O.K.:
333-1234
This is confusing because the first format is how the name and number will appear if the contact is in Address Book and the dialogue box is allowed to auto complete the entry. An autocompleted entry from the Address Book will be highlighted blue (as in the Mail program) and the number is dialed correctly.
I think this is just an issue about the quirkiness of the acceptable phone number format for the Fax Dialogue. If one tries to manually enter a number the autocomplete feature often adds strange letters to the number, e.g.
333-D23C.
What is that all about? If you see the "D" and try to delete it, the autocomplete feature fights with you and it just gets added right back again. One needs to type out the whole number before you can go back and fix the wierd characters.

TS2972 Since upgrading Apple TV to 5.1, home sharing works for 2 minutes
My setup has been working for ages, but ever since I upgraded my living room Apple TV to 5.1, it looses it's connection to home sharing after 2 minutes.
Running OS-X 10.7.3 with iTunes 10.6. Netgear N600 (WNDR7300 v2) router on Comcast.
This is happening with newly ripped as well as older ripped movies that I've purchased and converted using local tools, all stored locally on my Mac.
I first started experiencing this with my setup today, where I'd play a movie and then 2 minutes later, it would quit and my computer would no longer appear in the Apple TV computers list. I then go to my Mac, turn off Home Sharing, then turn it back on - and viola, it's back again - for two more minutes.
I had updated my Netgear from 10.0.0.8 to 10.0.0.12 recently, but have since reversed that upgrade - the issue remains.
I've tested this also by using my remote app from my iphone, and again, the connection appears okay until I start using it - then after 2 minutes of playback, it loses its connection. Is iCloud cutting off my iTunes on purpose? is Comcast? I have no idea what's going on to cause this.Okay, so here's what I've found so far:
So I've done a number of tests on both my Apple TV's - the bedroom unit worked fine - it wirelessly connected to a cheap wifi-N AP (netgear $20 refurb from Microcenter) and it was upgraded by plugging directly into my Mac using a USB cable.
My living room unit, experiencing this issue, was plugged into an ethernet port and was upgraded through the IOS update feature. Any movie played through Home Sharing would fail after 2-3 minutes. In some cases, like with ******* 3D, I couldn't even finish watching the titles of the film before losing the connection.
This was happening on all my Home Sharing setups - both on the PC and the Mac that have libraries their share - both before and after upgrading to the latest iTunes on both.
I tried resetting the living room unit by plugging it into the iTunes and doing a factory restore. Once it was done, I put it back online - and connected it to the same WiFi as the bedroom unit. All tests passed. Was easily able to play things that couldn't stream before the latest update.
Once I plugged in the ethernet cable, it shut down the WiFi link and then started exhibiting the connection drop once again.
I then unplugged ethernet, re-connected to that AP and have been working since. Nothing in the packet capture I have shows what happens to the connection - I see lots of DAAP protocol going back and forth - then out of nowhere, the Apple TV starts pouring out a pile of RST packets and that's when the connection drops. In order to look at this more closely, I'd have to put a sniffer on the LAN and run this through a network switch that has packet capture abilities - not something I possess at the moment.
For now I'd advise that folks run wireless or wireless through a third gateway if you can.

Since upgrading to ios7 my iPhone 4S no longer allows me to watch music videos in full screen mode when I select the clips via a playlist from the music app.
It's now more necessary than before to use the music app rather than the video app to select music videos to play. That's because the video app doesn't list music videos by artist any more. And also because the fast forward and rewind buttons on headphones remote no longer work on videos.
How do I watch full screen videos when rotating my iphone now shows my music library rather than showing the video itself?I do not think it is a problem to play videos in the full screen mode using the video app. It should work just fine, it does work ok for me on iphone 5. The original question was to play music videos in the music app. Music videos and videos are two different things - I am not sure why but they are.
The problem here is that the music app supports lists and the video app does not. I just looked at the ios7 video app and while my few test videos are shown in it, the lists they were in (in iTunes) are nowhere to be found. There is no lists in the video app - period - which is as it was before.
The video app plays videos and music videos in the full screen mode no problem but if you have a few hundreds or more of such videos you will have hard time finding the one you want to play. There is simply no way to categorize or group videos. The old good folders/directories are, I guess, too simple for Apple. It is just too bad that for years on end the world's leader in S/W development did not offer anything to categorize videos.
You have lists, albums, etc., for music, you have albums for pictures but you have absolutely nothing for videos. And this is and has been the Apple's state-of-the art solution for this problem - simply insist that the problem does not exist. Actually it is getting worse. Not only there is nothing to categorize or group videos but now the only way it could be done (by marking videos as music videos and using the music app) results in a mini playback area.
Soon this OS will be able to cook dinner for your but grouping videos... no way.

10.4.5 - mac mini can't connect to network via airport since upgrade
I've been experiencing problems since upgrading to 10.4.3. Mainly, I've noticed that I can't easily connect to our wireless home network all the time. The pattern has been that I start by shutting down my computer completely. When I start up it again, it can't connect to the network. I have to create a new profile and then it will connect. That was buggy, but at least I found a hack. However, since upgrading to 10.4.5, I can't connect to our home network at all. The Internet Connect application says that I am connected to the base station, however I can't connect to the outside world via a shell, browser or email application. Our network is secured with a WEP and the base station is a D-Link. I searched the forums for some tips, but didn't find anything. Pointers appreciated.
Be very careful about the sequence you do it. You must make sure that the airport connection is turned off (i.e. the airport menu icon looks more like a profiled eyeball without the iris than a series of lines like the towers of hanoi). Then create a new location in the Airport network preference, and make sure that these settings are there under Options
1. Keep looking for recent networks
2. Automatically add new networks to the preferred network list.
3. Change the status of Enable interference robustness.
And by default, join preferred networks in the Airport location. -
since upgrading to mountain lion my iphone no longer wirelessly connects to my itunes via wi-fi... is there a remedy for this? thanks
I am also having the same problem since upgrading to mountain lion. The symptom is strange.
If I connect my iPhone/iPad using cable first, uncheck and then check the wifi sync option, and then disconnect the cable, iTunes will still be able to see the devices through wifi. But if I restart my computer, it will fail again. And I am tired of repeating this exercise.
Anyone has the same problem? -
Ever since upgrading to iTunes 11.0, I can no longer sync Contacts and Calendar from my iMac (10.7.5) To my iPad2 (6.0.1) via Wi-Fi. I believe All my settings are correct. Device is recognized and sync From iPad is possible. Tablet is past warranty, so TechSup won't help. Any suggestions?
Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

Hi, I usually connect my Panasonic AVCHD Camcorder via USB to copy the .MTS files across to my iMac for editing. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Finder sees the directories for photos stored on the Camcorder but not the video directories/files. I can see them via Parallels. Any ideas why?
Thanks, JulianML will show the AVCHD as a pkg, so you are not able view the directories like BDMV-->Stream-->MTS. You can right click AVCHD file, then choose show package contents. you will see BDMV, then you right click BDMV to choose show package, you will see stream folder, just do it again, you will find MTS files. Next time if you want to check the MTS files you just need to do above again. right click AVCHD....
Another way, rename AVCHD to AVCHD.mts then do it same with BDMV and Stream folder, it will let you see MTS files after that. Those mts files will keep showing on your mac next time.

Has anyone else had a problem logging into Hotmail.com or Outlook.com via Safari (or Firefox, Chrome and any other browser) since upgrading to OS X Yosemite? I can log in via Safari on my iPad and iPhone, but not on my 2008 iMac running Yosemite.
Thanks.The Canon MG series uses two protocols - Apple's Bonjour and Canon's own "canonijnetwork". Bonjour is used by the printer and scanner component, while the Canon protocol is used by the printer only. Given that you cannot locate either via the Add printer window and I'm assuming the printer is networked, then open Safari and then its preferences and select the Advanced tab. You will see an entry of Bonjour and the option to enable it in the Favorites bar or Bookmarks menu bar. Enable one of these and then close the Safari Preferences window. Now open the Bonjour bookmark (via the Favorites bar or Bookmarks menu). Do you see the MG5220?
If not, then check what IP address it is using by printing a network data list. If you then enter the IP address into Safari (for example http://10.0.1.10) this should connect to the internal web page of the printer. Does this happen? If yes, then it at least shows that you have a working connection between your Mac and the printer. If it does not connect to the MG5220 web page, then check what IP address your Mac is using and compare that to the MG. Typically for a home network the first three sets of numbers in the IP address (known as the subnet) are the same and the last number (known as the network address) is different for each device on the local network. -
Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them. Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport). What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?
First thing to try is reset Printing System:

Next would be reset the router (power off 15 secs then back on). And, 2 minutes later, reset the printers 1 by 1. -

Open Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts. Select the TalkTalk account and then the 'Account Information' tab. Drop down the 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)' menu and select 'Edit SMTP Server List'. Ensure that 'Server Name' under 'Account Information' is set to "smtp.talktalk.net". You may also need to configure settings under the 'Advanced' tab.

Saving alternate edits of a Raw file
I am wondering how best to save several alternate versions of the same Raw file. I'm aware that it's possible to save presets, but these don't seem to be image-specific - ie, all the presets I create are available for every Raw file I open. If I'm go
