Skype wifi help

I recently added $5 into my skype account so I can use wifi. I downloaded skype wifi after and logged into there, but it says I don't have funds in that account. Not only that I don't know how to actually use skype wifi. Can anyone help?(I'm currently in the Philipines)

Using skype on skype wifi while in Japan for calls...

I am subscribed to us and canada plan here in the U.S.
I always call Japanese number from here with skype to go number (U.S. number) and it will charge a couple of cents/minute.
If I take my iphone to Japan and call on skype wifi, does it still work the same (as far as the rate) or do I need japanese skype to go number because I'll be in Japan?
Of course, I'd have to pay for skype wifi but I think it's cheaper than buying it in japan.
I thought wherever I am, the subscription control the way it is charged.

When calling via Skype it matters only where you're calling to. It doesn't matter where you're calling from.
You may find Skype WiFi helpful as long as you understand it's to pay for not-for-free public wifi hotspots. If you have free wifi available you can still use your subscriptions and don't need Skype WiFi.

Arbitary Skype Wifi charges!!!!!

I went to my loved cafe today. Evertime I connect to the hotspot the skype wifi popup is shown. Normally I close it and connect though the portal that gives you a FREE 1 hour of internet.Today I clicked connect by mistake.
Since it was a mistake, I immediatelly started to search how to disconnect. No chance!!!!.
I switched off the wifi, I closed the laptop, I exited skype. Nothing hapenned.
After 30 minutes a charge of 4.2Euros appeared on my account for 29:58 minutes of wifi!
Is there any 29:58:00 minimum connection time documented anywhere in the skype wifi site?
If anybody from skype is reading this forum, I would like to know what is the meaning of "you pay what you use" that is advertised for this service. The correct should be "You pay of what we decide to charge you".

Skype unlimited asking for credit for skype wifi

I just purchased the new Surface pro 2. With it I was given a 12 month subscription to skype unlimited world and skype wifi. I redeemed by code and can see the subscription in my account. I was in Newark airpoirt corrected to as skype wifi access point but skype wifi was telling me that I could not connect as I did not have any credit, yet according to my scubscription I'm supoosed to get free skype wifi for 12 months.
Has anyone has this issue before or know how I can fix this issue? Also is there a contact email address to skype, I can't seem to finsd any way to actually conmtact Skype about this issue.

First of all, please make sure that your apps get updated automatically on your Surface Pro 2, you can follow these steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows-8/automatic-app-updates-help
The pre-installed Skype Wifi application via Store needs to to be updated in order to take advantage of the Surface 2 offer.

What is skype wifi?

Does it mean that there are special WIFI network for skype and I can't talk with skype in a regular WIFI network?
I have an android phone and I intend to make voice calls using WIFI and skype client for WIFI, do I need anything other than skype credit and a regular WIFI network?

1. No. There is no special wifi network for Skype.
2. You can talk on any wifi network.
3. No. You don't need anything extra.
"Skype wifi" is just the section of this Forum where customers using Skype through a wifi network can exchange experiences and request assistance.

Sign in problems when trying to use Skype WiFi

I have a tablet that I am trying to connect to Skype WiFi and keep getting looped around to the sign-in screen. It tells me "You're already on line", but I can't do anything after that. I just have the "Learn More" button. I have unstalled and installed Skype WiFi twice and it still will not open. None of your instructions or guide are helping me.

The call to the function 'wwpre_api_util.get_names_table' is not returning any data. so, you are getting an exception. Try adding an exception block for NO_DATA_FOUND and print some message.

Skype WIFI no longer free - being charged even tho...

Purchased SP2 8/256 Dec 2013. Exchanged the Skype premium account voucher that comes with it end of January which gives free 12 months Skype Wifi.
All working fine till mid May where all of a sudden I start being charged for my Skype Wifi usage which is supposed to be free for 12 months together with the Skype unlimited account.
Escalated to Skype support who keep repeating that all is fine and that if I use my SP2 I should not be charged, but as expected I keep being charged.
So desperate plea to this community - Has anyone noticed this behaviour in the past and if so, how did you resolve ? And before anyone responds have you updated to latest version- the answer if yes

The problem you have experienced should be fixed now, please update your Skype WiFi app to the latest version from the Windows Store, it should solve the problem

Skype wifi hotspots list location needed

I am trying to use the skype wifi access feature but all the hotspots that I though could work are not supported by skype. And I browse for all I though could help in this forum and always ended up in the same welcome site. .../allfeatures/skype-acess
some else even ask this same question and summed up in a way I laugh so hard, that I will repeat it. Because no one replay that question. So, where is the list of all location of hotspots that support the feature to connect using my skype credit. Because a million worldwide are not really much of a help.

Skype Wifi - advertised as free until January 2014...

Hi All,
Sending this out for two reasons - firstly to see if anyone else is affected (though I suspect most people won't notice unless their credit was wiped out), secondly as a warning to not leave a lot of credit on your Skype account just in case!
The Skype Wifi app advertised that it would provide free wifi access up to the end of January 2014 - this is as advertised on both itunes and Google Play app stores.
However, I used Skype Wifi while abroad recently and was charged for every use - it wiped the credit on my account.
I cannot verify my account so cannot communicate over email (and they can give no hint as to which of the 23 questions asked didn't match - they just keep asking you to fill it in again). So I've resorted to chat, which requires no validation (?!?).
So far I've had very conflicting responses from Skype's (rather useless) customer service:
- I was incorrectly billed, I will be called back to resolve this [I wasn't called]
- the content of the itunes/google play app descriptions is not under Skype's control
- the content of the itunes/google play app descriptions is written by Skype's marketing team in Luxembourg, not the support team in Phillipines, so no refund can be given
- @SkypeSupport on twitter would "love to help" but then ignore my response

Several times now I make the assumption I am not using Skype wifi. I do not accept the pop up (to my knowledge) as I am in free hotspot zones or terthering to my phone and I still see my credit go down. I do not know how to diaable except by quitiing Skype ! The priniciple of wifi product is good but management of it is not. Help please!

Skype WiFi on a Laptop - Problems

Hi. I am trying to use "Skype WiFi" in the UK prior to using it for real whilst travelling, but so far I cannot get it to work. I have the latest version of Skype, I have Skype WiFi enbaled under the Tools menu and I have tried to use numerious supposedly compatable WiFi Hotspots (mainly BTOpenzone), but so far without luck.
What happens is:
1) I open Skype and try and sign in - this is before I have connected to the hotspot (as per the instructions on the Skype website. This feels odd as without an internet connection I am unsure how it will authenticate.
2) I then connect to the hotspot and then wait. i do not attempt to open a browser to get to a logon screen as I believe that Skype WiFi should do this and deal with the payment and authentication.
3) After a while of Skype attempting to connect I get an "Unable to connect" message in Skype.
Can anyone help point out what i am doing wrong?

In order to use Skype WiFi:
1. In computer WiFi settings connect to a hotspot
2. Open Skype
3. You will be prompted that Skype WiFi is available here
4. At this point, log into Skype
5. You will see per-minute price and option to Connect to the internet via Skype WiFi
6. If you connect, your computer will now have internet access
7. Do not forget to disconnect from Skype WiFi once you are done

Skype WiFi + Outlook Account = Don't Mix

Skype WiFi is a useful service that Skype offers us, but if you have setup your Skype account with Outlook account it doesn't work e.g. Login doesn't work. Please help.

You can use your existing Skype account to avail Skype WiFi feature. Now, if your Skype account is merged to your Microsoft account, it should still work. You just have to use your Skype credentials to sign in to the Skype WiFi application or Skype application, not your Microsoft account credentials. You cannot use Microsoft account yet for Skype WiFi feature.

Cannot find cost information for Skype wifi access. (Or a list of access partners). Any help?

The WiFi is just to get Internet access. It doesn't involve Skype. The cost is between you and whomever supplies the Wifi "hotspot". It could be yourself as you use your own WiFi-enabled home router. It could be your employer as you use the company's WiFi router. It could be Starbuck's WiFi router or the WiFi router at the executive lounge at the airport. The Skype software client could be on your home desktop PC, on your laptop PC, on your iPhone, or on your Android smartphone, or on a WiFi cordless phone. That software client then calls Skype over the Internet to establish an IP connection for voice data packets to flow over the Internet between itself and other software clients.
