Slow browser speed

Slow browser speed on all browsers, but the downloading and uploading speed are normal according to speedtest.net. Ping is a bit high. Other computers in the house are fine.Already contacted ISP (Time Warner), modem is not the problemContacted Linksys router support, router is fine.

Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
Restarting a router and internet modem can help your browsers regardless of the speed test results.

  • Slow Browser Speeds!

Ok this has been going on for 6 months but it takes forever to load a page on my iBook, ive read a few other posts and have repaired my disk permissions which sped up my system a heap, but the browser was still slow, i know its not the internet as the speed on my pc (which im using now) is 20x faster than my iBook. I couldnt find rosetta mode in the safari info panel however its still slow on other browsers, and is slow on other users too, ive freed up 20gb but thats obviously no help. Im using a _DSL ETHERNET CONNECTION_ and wondering if anyone can finally help me?

HI Larzyy and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
If you aren't running and maintenance on your Mac, it might be just what you need to do. Here's a good free disk utility called Onyx available at the Apple site.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
Download and install Onyx. Run the Cleaning and Maintenance scripts. Do that once a week! It will clean out caches, especially the Safari cache.
BTW, you don't have to do anything as far as Rosetta is concerned. It runs quietly in the background... read more here: http://www.apple.com/rosetta/

  • Slow browsing speeds and super low download speeds...

    Hello,
I wonder if anyone is having similar issues or knows what may be a possible cause. Since last night it's became impossible for me to download anything, regardless of the device or source of the download e.g. can't download anything on my PS4, can't download anything on Steam, Youtube takes an age to buffer, websites sometimes load slow, somtimes fast.
On steam for example the download will start at around 3 MB/s but within about 20 seconds it's dropped right down to mere Bytes. To rule out an issue with my PC I've also tried downloading various things on my ipad and PS4 but have the same issue
The odd thing is the speed test appears fine as seen below and as a result when speaking with support earlier they told me the line appeared fine. But I can't understand how that can be.

    this link may help https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/Speed-Test-Fine-But-No-D-L-Speed/td-p/12952...

  • Error during software update, slow browsing speed and maximum force quits ?

I have a mac book. Today i was doing software update, it gave me an error "operation could not be completed, connection reset by peer" ? now what does that mean?
I had recently downloaded open office application which i have deleted it. Further my internet browser are so slow that i feel surfing in stone age.
Besides, i have seen my system is getting pretty slow and i have to use force quit as some operation do not respond to the request.
    What to do?

    Hello,
Regarding the error in software update: It just means you lost your internet connection, but it was the fault of something on your side, not Apple's side. Try again later, or better yet, try it somewhere else. Sounds like your internet setup (your router, modem, etc) is having problems.

  • Firefox 3.6.6 and 3.6.3 the screens keep refreshing slowing browser speed and being a nusiance. Cannot enter information right away. Sometime have to click on emails 3 times to open then.

    etc. etc

    Please do the following:<br><br>
#In the address bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
#In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following: '''accessibility.blockautorefresh'''<br><br>
#Double click it to change it from "True" to "False"<br><br>
#Close the tab and test it.
Incidentally, you should consider updating to version 3.6.17 by clicking Help | Check For Updates.
The reason is because there was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.

  • Slow Browser (Safari) Speed Since Upgrading to 10.8

Hello- I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion last week. I have noticed a signficant slow down in browser performance since upgrading. Very slugish now. I noticed it immediately, but thought I'd give it time and different internet connections. Nope... still very noticeable.
Problem: Slow browsing speed since going from 10.7 to 10.8
Setup: 10.8.5 with latest safari, MBair 2012 w/SSD and 8GB ram - Plenty of disk space
What I've tried: Fixing permissions, cleaning cache, reseting safari, cleaning cookies, DNS (open vs. google vs. standard)
    Any advice? Thx.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.
    1. Have you restarted your router and broadband modem since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same?
    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Fix for slow safari browsing speeds

I am experiencing very slow browsing speeds with Safari after upgrading my Macbook with 4G memory to 10.8.2. Other programs seem to to lagging as well.   What can I do to manage my open programs to speed things up?  Other ideas?

A number of people reported that Safari was running
very slow for them on Windows. I was someone who was
also seeing the same behavior. Web pages that would
open up in 2 seconds under IE7 could take literally
minutes to fully draw in Safari.
Your mileage may vary, but this really did work for
me. Nothing else I had tried (clearing the cache,
    re-installing, etc.) made a difference...but this
did. Not sure why it's not affecting everyone, but
this doesn't seem to have any negative side effects.
IE7 is still working fine for me with the
    "Automatically Detect" box unchecked.
Please, report this bug to Radar: http://bugreport.apple.com It's important to notice Apple developers about this issue

  • Web page browsing speed drastically slowing down

I purchased a 13 inch mac book pro in December. Since day one, I have had a problem with my web page browsing speed drastically slowing down. These crippling slow down periods are completely random. They can start any time, and last from any amount of time. from minutes to hours.
95% of the time any attempt to load a page end in a time out. The other 5% takes no less then 90 seconds to load the simplest of pages. I have this problem no matter what browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera). What is driving me nuts is other applications work fine when browsing slows down. Skype, IM clients, multi-player games all work great, but web pages will not load. When I ping a website, my latency returns are perfectly normal. I can use Telnet and SSH with no problem.
This has become such a problem that I can not depend on using OS X day to day. I used boot camp to setup a windows partition and installed win 7. Using my win 7 install everything runs perfectly, I have had zero slow down!
I've done some searching and found numerous posts with similar problems. Ive read and followed the advice that I found, but I've had no success is fixing this.
I have had this problem on 6 different wireless networks. Each time this problem has come into play, my windows install performs flawlessly. This really makes me belive this is a software problem. Not hardware / ISP.
I see alot of post blaming default ISP DNS servers, just to let everyone know I use google's open DNS on my home network.
I also have changed the DNS settings in OS X
All other machines on my home network have zero problems!
Sending files between my laptop and other machines on my network works perfectly.
I have found a few posts / guides for using OnyX, none of them have worked for me
I have to be missing some simple thing here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome and the quick response Glynn
I rebooted into OS X as soon as I read your response. Web pages would not load.
    I followed your instructions.
    The Airport Light was green.
I went ahead and hit assist me and ran the diag tool. According to the tool my internet connection is working correctly.
Sadly the problem persists and web pages still will not load in all four browsers.
I ran a ping to google.com and responses were well under 45 ms.

  • Extremely slow download speeds and internet browsing on Macbook pro

I recently got a 13"" macbook pro. System config - Maverick OS/i7 dual core/8GB RAM/750 GB HDD, Almost 690GB of free space available. I am expriencing extremely slow download and internet browsing speed. I have to wait for almost 10-12 seconds for normal sites to download. The app updates and downloads are painstakingly slow.
The internet speeds are working perfectly fine on my Windows Laptop, and even on my mobile phones. So, the there's no issue of network. Also, I have cleared safari cache etc, just to be sure. But nothing's really helping.
Can any one help me here.
    Thanks !
    Chetan

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Incredibly slow browsing despite line speed of 3.5...

For about the last week I've had incredibly slow browsing. When I run the BT speed checker it comes back at between 3.5M and 4M. It's like the data is broken up into chunks which are separated by a lot of time. It's like the bad old days of dialup.
The speed tester comes back and said
    download speed was 3692Kbps
    range 1000-7150Kbps
DSL connection rate 4672Kbps downstream and 888Kbps upstream
    IP profile 4000Kbps

Are there any other tests or web sites, I should visit to try and establish what's going on, before I bite the bullet and report it as a fault?

your router usually directs name resolution requests to bt dns servers
these convert web addresses that you type into numbers that the internet needs
bt dns servers are usually poor which could be responsible for the problems you have but the router doesnt allow you to change them
however it is possible to override them in the network settings of the pc

  • Normal download speeds, incredibly slow browsing

I've got an airport extreme that I've been having problems with. I get some pretty fast download speeds when downloading a file from Safari or Firefox, anywhere between 150kb/s and 300kb/s. However, my internet browsing speed is at a crawl. It can take between 30 seconds and 1 minute to load Apple's homepage whether I'm using Safari or Firefox. Can someone help me out with this? Are there some settings I need to change? Thank you!

I was having the same problem as you. I recently (tonight) installed a new Extreme N and was noticing that this was happening.
Even Google's website was taking a while to load. What I did is changed the DNS servers from AT&T's to public ones. I'm using 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 and this seems to have corrected the problem. Browsing is back to normal speeds, but I'd be skeptic to call this a "fix", since it's been about 20 minutes since I made the chance, so I'm not sure if this will really fix it, but if you want to try it you've got nothing to lose.
Let me know if it helps!
