Slow connection, 3 weeks and 3 engineers and still...

Hi All, Here is my problem any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.... I have Home hub 2 connected to a master socket with built in filter. My Home hub is reporting the following....
And i have been trying to use the BT speedchecker but it always fails....like this
So i have been using thinkbroadband check and getting this......
I have had a total of three (3) BT engineers out to my property to date, one(1) landline and two (2) openreach engineers. All say things are now ok and they will reset the line and wait 24hrs.........i have done this and still have very sow connections.
I have plugged in direct to the router (home hub) 3 different laptop from a win7, osx and linux all the same result, very slow speed.
I have changed the home hub for another and also connected a belkin router same results.
I have called BT again today and they now say again there is a fault on the line and are handing over to BT network engineers to work with the exchange. It seems im going in loops with BT faults, open reach and BT engineers!
Anyone else had similar problems know what to do next?
My usual speed is between 2.2 -2.5Mbps download with 488Kbps upload as im not close to the exchange.
here is the latest hub results and speed test, the hub now states a good download speed but in reality its only .2Kbps (false reading)...
Thanks for reading!!!! HELP!!

welcome to the forum
the first set of hub stats looks like you were stuck in a banded profile (288 and noise margin 26.5) probably due to all the resets as you were trying various things to fix your connection.
It now seem to have let yout the banding and you have a reasonable speed for your attenuation but it probably that your profile is still low after the banding problem. However without the btspeedtester results you cannot tell what your profile and throughput are.
your curent stats are ok but your noise margin is still a bit high at 10.9 as normal about 6.  staying connected with no resets your noise margin should come down with a possible small increase in your connection speed.

Sounds like you need a new battery.  Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Very slow connection in evenings and weekend

For a couple of months we have had appallingly slow broadband in the evenings and at some times on the weekend.
We have two laptops and an ipad which all experience the same issues. Speed tests show 4499kps at some times and, what must be a record-breaking, 29kps at other times. Unfortunately the 'other times' are normally when we want to use it.
Tech support provides some really polite and positive people in India but no continuity, no back-up to promises and some very misleading information. One call led to a guarantee the line would be 'upgraded' within the week and nothing changed. And the number she gave me didn't work.
So terrible broadband speed. Awful customer service. Feeling cheated and will stop paying very soon. Have emailed the moderator this evening but is there anything else to do in the meantime?

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .  This will also assist the mods
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Slow connecting to internet and Flash frequently quits

My iMac has been very slow over the past while. I am on Snow Leopard, and have all the updates.
It takes a very long time to connect to internet and also to webpages. Simple commands such as inputing text and dropping menus take forever. I have that coloured pinwheel running for very long periods while attempting to make the connections or garnering responses to commands. Often the tasks will time out. I've been getting messages such as "Safari has shut down, there is a problem with flash, this error will be reported to Apple" and frequently I'll get a message that Flash has inexplicably quit. I've had the computer lock up and the only thing I can do is to shut down the computer, losing all my opened pages and unsaved data.
I don't know if it would make any difference, but I have asked my service provider to send me a new modem. I have DSL and ethernet.
Is it possible that Flash is corrupt and should I reinstall, or are the other problems, such as slowness, etc not a Flash related?
I know I have a lot of old emails and other files which I have to clean out. Does this have a bearing? I have cleared history, removed cookies, and performed other cleanup tasks.
My trial support period with Apple support has expired, so have no recourse through them.
    Thanks,
    Ted

Ted, that does seem odd. Did you do a control-click (i.e. hold down the Control key while clicking) on the Macintosh HD icon? It should have presented a small menu of options, of which one is Get Info. Alternatively, if you have a two-button mouse, right-clicking the icon should have behaved similarly.
You’ve got plenty of available disk space, so a crowded disk can be ruled out.
The number of bookmarks should not have any effect on the browser’s speed. The size of your inbox theoretically could affect the speed at which you download e-mail, but you have enough available disk space that it shouldn’t be an issue.
If you use Apple’s Mail program, does it offer an option to download e-mail but keep it on your ISP’s servers? If so, do you use that option? If you do, then that could certainly slow down your e-mail downloads if you have a large inbox, since your e-mail program would spend time figuring out what has already been downloaded vs. what needs to be downloaded — and if you check for e-mail often, then that processing could slow down your browsing.
For both Flash and Firefox, the download will only overwrite packages of the same name if they already exist; thus, the commands above would overwrite Firefox.dmg and Flash.dmg on your desktop only if they already exist by those names there. Once the packages are executed, they will overwrite applications of the same name if they already exist. Thus, if you haven’t previously installed Firefox on your computer, by definition no previous Firefox can be overwritten; but if you install a newer version of Firefox in the future, then it will overwrite any version installed in the past — but your bookmarks, plug-ins, &c. won’t be affected by the overwrite, since they’re stored in a separate area of your disk. Executing a Flash package will overwrite the version that is already installed.

  • 6 Weeks and still no phone line............Home Mo...

I recently moved home and used BT's home move service and thats where it all went wrong!!!
I moved less than 1 mile and the addresses are on the same exchange, so how come i am now approaching 6 weeks and BT still have not connected my line???
    12/01/2013
Contacted BT gave them all the details and was told "yes you can keep your existing number but we are busy so it will be the 05/02/2013 before we get you connected" Well thats 3 weeks but OK.
    05/02/2013
I take the day off workand wait patiently for the engineer to arrive (1pm - 6pm it said) so when it got to 3pm i phoned BT just to check all was OK, the lady says yes sir he will be with you today!!!!!   Well 6pm came and went and and i contacted BT at 6:30pm and was passed around a bit but eventually spoke to a guy who says " ah there is a problem with the survey and no engineer was coming today" ARRRRR why did you not contact me and let me know rather than costing me £200 by taking the day off!!!!
    06/02/2013
So i was asked to phone the next day at 9am so i did and was told "Its OK sir there was a problem at the exchange (now nothing to do with a survey apparently!!) your line will be connected today by 12pm"  Great i thought.
Well 12pm came and went just like 6pm did the day before and guess what still no line!!!
    07/02/2013
Now very annoyed and tired, I Phone again, and for the forth time the story has changed again, now there is a broken cable 1km long which has to be fixed although both my neighbours have cables coming from the same pole which are working fine!!
It is now going to be 05/03/2013!!!!!!!!!   a staggering 7 weeks to connected one line no wonder openreach are behind!
although i am expecting more lies and confusion when this date looms.......
To top it all off yesterday Warren Buckley sends me a letter saying he hopes my move is going well and how BT can get me connected without delay........
Mr Buckley you are a liar sir!!

  • Over a week and still no broadband?????

I wonder if anybody has had a similar experience?
I signed up for the BT boradband and call package (10GB) on August 23rd. I was told that my activation date would be September 13th. I was a bit miffed that I'd have to wait three weeks to be able to call out from my new home, but I was patient. When the 13th rolled around, my phone was switched on, but not the broadband (I had received the hub earlier that day). I tried everything and still nothing. Called BT and was told it could take up to midnight.
14th came. No broadband. I was told 'it should be on tomorrow'.
    15th.
    16th.
17th. I was told 'by Saturday, for sure'.
18th. 'By Monday, or anytime before then. We'll call you'.
    19th.
20th. 'Tuesday by close of business hours'.
    21st...guess what? Still no broadband.
To be honest, I'm pretty shocked. It's been over a week. The worst part is, the only contact I've had has been by my instigation....Only one person called me back to say it'd be on today. And since I've had to haul my laptop to my parents house just to type this, you can guess I'm still not connected. The funniest part of all this, is when I load up my Mac, I can see that my neighbours have also got BT broadband, so we obviously share an exchange. But they're online and I'm not. I've been told repeatedly that it's some issue with the exchange.
I don't really know what to do now. I'm pretty close to calling the whole thing off, but if I call again and another person tells me 'tomorrow' or 'by midnight', I think I'd go ballistic.
As far as I know, all the equipment is working fine, I have a dial tone, I can make calls...just the silly hub blinking that annoying broadband light (orange) at me. For those who have experienced this, did it ever get resolved? How long did it take? What happened in the end?
    Thanks.

    Hi all,
I just move my server from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6.
I import all my users and settings.
When i try to connect to my server using FTP or SSH, the connexion is slow.
I have to wait arround 45 sec before connecting to the server ( i never wait with the old 10.3.9 )
    ex of connexion + delay
    I enter : ssh myuser@myserverip
    server : Password: ( 26 sec after i hit the return key !! )
    server : Last login: Tue May 9 11:57:03 2006 from XX.XX.XX.XX ( 2 sec after )
    server : Welcome to Darwin!
It is faster than the first time because the server must store some datas of recent connected users.
I have the same problem with FTP
    Thx for help

    I have this same problem.
I'm not sure how to set up or tweak DNS. Could someone point to where this is accomplished?
I'm not using a DNS server inside our firewall because I'm not sure how it works. I have DNS service turned off on the OS X Server.

  • More than 5 weeks and still no phoneline

I first made contact with BT in March to sort out Boradband, the guy on the phone tried to do a line test but as it didnt show up he said the only thing he could so was set us up for a phone line and activate broadband once the phone line was sorted.
I agreed to this despite wanting broadband only as i hoped it wouldnt be too long!
    How wrong was i!!!!
An appointment was made for an engineer to come out to the house to sort the line, my partner took the day of work to wait for the guy, he came out and after some time checked the lines at the top of the road and they were not even connected to the main exchange.
The engineer informed us that it would be around 3-5 working days and Bt should contact us with a new apt.
    More like 3 weeks....
I have since been on the phone 3 times to find out when we are getting another appt, I rang one evening and was promised a call back, which I never got, I rang again on Wednesday 11/05/2011 evening and the guy on the phone was very helpful, he told me that the line test since the work had been completed was good and they would sort me out with an appt for Friday 13/05/2011, I explained to the guy that I was in work until 4pm on Friday so could the appt be made for after that which I was told Yes. When I told him that we wanted Broadband he also explained that once the line was enabled I could ring the number again and they would fast track a broadband package to us due to the amount of time we have had to wait and the issues we have encountered. I was then told someone would ring me on Thursday 12/05/2011 to confirm the appt.
I rang numerous times on the Thursday and could not get through on the number given 01793595043.
I rang numerous times on the Friday and finally got through at 12:30 to ask what was happening with the appointment to be told Openreach don’t work in the afternoon on a Friday and the appt was made for the morning. After me telling them I was in work all day. The lady on the phone was less than helpful and told me that if she cancels the appt or if the appointment fails that because the issue doesn’t lie with them there is nothing they will do to help apart from book me another appt for the end of next week. In my opinion the issue lies totally with BT as I told the guy on Wednesday that I was in work on Friday until 4pm and there would be no one in the house till after 4:15pm.
I got an online help guy on Friday also who told me that Order Mgt wanted to speak to me directly to try and resolve my issue as at this point i am extremly unhappy. They called on Friday to re-arrnage and apt, and guess what... the systems are down... they cannot book and appt. The girl on the phone assured me someone would re-book on Monday and ring to let me know about an appt. She even went as far as to put a complaint in from ehr end as this service is awful, she looked at the notes and was shocked at the lenght of time it has taken to to get anything sorted.
As i was in a conference call in work this morning i was unable to take the call that came thought but had a listen to the voicemail left for me..... the issue has been passed around AGAIN to a different team as they still cant seem to book me an appointment, at least this time it has been stated that i need a PM appointment
This is extremely unhelpful and unacceptable and the service is awful. We have had to wait 5 weeks since initial contact with BT to try and get internet and we haven’t even got a phone line yet. Not only this but I have an extra £20-30 on my phone bill due to the fact I have to chase up after promised call backs.
As i work in the IT sector its important that i can keep up with my work which i currently cant do, if we ran our business like this we would have no customers left.
    Im sorely dissapointed!!!!

    Hi terri-ann,
If you mean can we speed things along any quicker I am afraid not
As the Infinity install needs an engineer to set everything up the time frame is really down to the availability of the engineers in your area.
I can keep an eye on the order for you though and make sure that everything goes according to plan if you would like?  Try the contact us form again and just make sure that all the fields are filled before submitting it.

  • I decided to remote lock my Macbook Pro from Find My iPhone. It's been three weeks and still no lock.

About three weeks ago, I was sitting in class, got bored, and decided that I'd try and see what would happen if I locked my Macbook Pro (17-inch 2.66 GHz on 10.8.2, early 2009) from Find My iPhone. I'm concerned because my Mac has never locked, despite being used daily, on a variety of networks, including buying from iTunes, and using Messages. I've turned off the computer multiple times since, and I really can't think of any other scenarios that I'd have to go through to get the Mac connected to Find My Mac. Is there anything I can do or is this just an oversight by Apple?

I think this is what you're saying, but I'm not sure:
You had turned on Find My Mac on your MacBook Pro in System Preferences > iCloud.
Then (while in class) you did a Find My Mac from your iPhone.  Presumably you did indeed see it pop up on a map there in its correct location.  You then sent a "lock" command which never took effect.  Further, you received an email confirmation that the lock commend actually got sent.
    Is that right?

  • 3 weeks and still no help.  sorry to vent but very dissappointed with ITUNE

I have tried everything. from reinstalling and about 8 emails to service and it seems everytime I get somebody else answering me back with the wrong info as if I had told them a different story of my issue. I know some of you have tried to help me too. I thank you for that. Today I asked them to delete my account completely so I can just try to set up a new one.
My problem was, Everytime I try to change my address it WILL NOT SAVE. I have tried everything that Everyone has told me from links to rebooting and trying to everything itunes staff has tried. I even BEGGED them to call me on the phone. It has been over 3 weeks now and I cannot buy music as it will not let me save my info change. The odd thing is , I never changed it to begin with. For some reason it went back to my old address. I am so irritated as I just want to buy some tunes. Sorry to vent, just extremely dissappointed with the service. 1billion songs sold and no fricking phone number to call. Just emails that take DAYS to hear back.. Sony connect, Napster? anyone wanna buy 3 ipods?
And yes I checked with all of my credit cards. they are fine.

    John,
I read your submission with some interest. I don't know for sure but I believe your problem is somewhere within your own pc. I had similar problems some months back with unsolicited changes which drove me crazy. I finally re-formated and reinstalled everything...no more problems.
Your comments reference Apple support really interested me. I thought it was just me and my lack of patience. It's obviously not.
Companies such as Apple are divisionalised in every aspect of their operations. R & D, Design, Production, Marketing are all cutting edge performance operations. Support, which I'm sure will be fractionalised down even further as it spreads across the globe is another issue completely.
It's simply appalling. The lack of customer service, technical know-how and frankly, interest, in customer problems is beyond belief.
I recently purchased a new PowerBook 15G4 directly from Apple Store on-line in the UK. I won't go into detail but it was sheer mayhem from beginning to end. The pre-sales (marketing) was fine but from there onwards I received service I wouldn't have believed possible from a viable and progressive organisation. It was call-centre service from Ireland that ensued at this juncture and if I was to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 it would have scored 0. It cost me additional money at the end of the day, lots of it!
My latest Apple disappointment is the recent purchase of a new iPod Video 30Gb here in Spain where I live. Nice product that attracted me (already have a mini iPod 4Gb) because of it's ability to play music video's which I love. Problem now is I find my Spanish Itunes Store doesn't sell video's! That's where my account is because of the criteria of creating an account subject to home address & credit card address so I can't switch to another store, such as the UK one, to purchase anything. So, I have a brand new video iPod I can't use for anything more than the audio I already had on my iPod Mini! Apple are happy to market and sell the basic product in certain countries but fail to mention the inability to provide you with the video content you require to utilise it fully.
I'm not the constantly whinging variety, I don't have the time or the inclination, but I can only say to Apple....this just isn't good enough and eventually you'll realise it yourself. Problems are never overly apparent when business is booming but the time will come when service like this becomes a major player in the success or otherwise of the operation. I'm a very disallusioned Apple customer!

  • Got charged full retail for a new phone instead of Edge Up, wiped out bank account, had to refuse shipment, no compensation for the time spent talking to 14  representatives over the phone in the last week, and still no refund??

On 9/29 I ordered an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB as an edge up from my 5S, swiped my card at the store to pay the Edge Up fee, and was told 10/31 was the expected ship date.
Didn't see the order on my My Verizon account, spoke with 3 representatives on the phone to actually get the order number so I could track it.
On 10/24 the ship date disappeared and I called to find out there was an issue with the payment. I gave them my debit card number over the phone for the Edge Up amount, and they charged me full retail -- OVER $1,000.
They promised it wouldn't post to my account and it wouldn't ship after cancelling the order. Next day it shipped. I called FedEx and refused the package over the phone.
I called when the payment posted the next day, totally wiping out my bank account and charging me overdraft fees.
They said they'd push for a refund immediately -- on Sunday, 10/24. It's now 10/30, I see no refund, I have no phone, and I have over $100 in bank fees from their mistake.
I spoke with a supervisor on the phone and they said they could refund the bank fees, but would do nothing for the fact that they screwed up my order, and told me it would be another 2-3 weeks before they actually ship a phone to me if I ordered today.
Sorry, but that's NOT good customer service. I can buy out my Edge agreement, sell the phone on eBay, and go to another carrier pretty easily. I don't want to leave Verizon's service, but I don't really see how they value me as a customer?
Does anyone else have some idea of what I could do about this whole thing??
TL;DR -- Verizon charged full retail for a phone instead of Edge Up fee, still no refund, no compensation for the inconvenience and stress they caused, and another 2-3 week wait on a phone I ordered a month ago.

That situation went from inconvenient to complicated quickly.  Wait for any pending orders to drop off, wait for things to clear up, wait till your upgrade comes up and then upgrade when your contract is fulfilled.  I would have suggested a replacement phone, I know, with only a month left why couldn't you just upgrade early, but these situations where people try to upgrade early always end horribly and once a phone order starts, it almost cannot finish until something winds up shipped received and returned.  Sorry this happened the way it did.  Definitely not efficient.

  • IPad Air says iPad is disabled connect to iTunes and STILL not able to use it. VERY UNHAPPY

After uploading IOS8 on 9-17-14 my iPad Air says "iPad is disabled, connect to iTunes.". I have followed all the suggestions from Apple and tried to erase my iPad, but I am VERY UNHAPPY as none of these have resolved the problem. Apple, please provide the support when you have new downloads...

Apple are not involved in tracking/locating stolen or lost devices. Have you reported it to the police ?
Did you have Find My iPad enabled in Settings > iCloud ? If you did and you had iOS 7 installed on it then it should be harder to remove from your account, and the police could try locating it via http://www.icloud.com
