SOA as career track

Hi ,
from last 1 year I am working in Web dynpro ABAP .I am facinated by SOA ...and feel like exploring it ...I have started with first by making r /3 basic clear by going through ERP for dummies (ESA version ) and then planning to switch SOA books..as recommended by seniors .
But before that I would like to know can I move this track ? If yes how I should take my career ? any suggestions ...welcome .

See, it seems you have good exposure to SAP Netweaver stacks. So u r very much eligible to SOA as a career . As I already told u SOA is basically about Architecture. So first u need to prepare a case study of a relatively large business that may incorporate many of the netweaver components e.g XI,BI,EP,MI. Transform their business requirement to technical requirements and then design the objects. Most importantly it should be designed so that every functionality in respective stacks of Netweaver can be exposed as a service </b>e.g Webservice so that their business partner can access the business object without interfering into their systems.
for an architect.......
What is an architect?
I often get resumes with architect in title. Judging by these resumes, an architect is supposed to have the following qualities:
1.     Knowledge of UML
2.     Being able to draw architecture diagrams
3.     Experience as a developer
Architect: Someone who knows the difference between that which could be done and that which should be done. -- Larry McVoy
The predominant thought seems to be progrmmers with long years of experience in coding either become managers or architects. Typically, all the people with an interest in technology become architects. But, what is the role of an architect in software development?
1.     Defining the problem in technical terms: Normally, the problem is stated in the terms of the domain -- it could be scientific, business, or any other area where the solution is needed. To solve that problem using the computer, you must be able to state the problem in "computerese", which means, in the terms of established technical frameworks. Typically, it takes:
1.     Understanding the problem as explained by the customers
2.     Translating into the computer solution domain
3.     Guiding the customer to well understood problem-solution patterns, and
4.     Understanding where true innovation is required
2.     Specifying the technologies needed: A given problem can be solved with diverse combinations of technologies. It is the architect's job to specify what technologies to be used.
3.     Defining the major modules of the system: The architect also must break down the system into modules and define interactions between modules. In fact, she should also specify the guidelines of interactions so that the module dependencies are well understood.
4.     Recommending patterns and frameworks: Since there is nothing new under the sun, each problem, in some fashion must have been solved earlier. It is the architect that should identify the relevant previous patterns to apply in the current project. In addition, she may need to define new patterns to be used in the application.
5.     Establishing code quality measures: For example, code reviews and design reviews fall under the code quality measures. The architect should establish the guidelines and practices in the team.
6.     Establishing Best Practices: Any given task can be done in many ways, some of which are equally good. However, an architect must establish best practices for doing even these mundane tasks so that consistency is maintained, and unnecessary effort is spared in looking for solutions.
7.     Maintaining conceptual integrity of the application: As the project grows, requirements change; new technologies get added; new people come into the project. With all these changes, it becomes imperative to maintain a coherent and consistent vision of the project. An architect should be able to do that.
Reward points if it helps u

  • SOA Dependency Flow Tracker

    Hi
i am looking for a tool / underline product level information that is used to find the flow for SOA Suite components
    [ JMS1 --> BPEL --> Mediator --> JMS2 ] --> Proxy --> JMS3
    <----------------------------SCA-----------------------><--------OSB---------->
In the above flow, the flow in [..] can be trace from SCA component audit trail / flow.
Once the messages are put in the JMS Queue2 ; we dont have any flow / visual diagram after that
i.e., from end-to-end flow as UI.
what are required to build such a tool / UI.
    Thanks in adv.,
    anvv sharma

    Anvv,
There is no simple/straight forward option available for it.
You may consider creating a custom reporting provider for OSB then on top of it, you may build your own reporting dashboard. While listing the report of any OSB transaction, you may include a reference into it which may redirect the page to audit trail of SOA part. By this way on one page user may find the direct link to view the SOA audit trail and tracking/audit information of OSB.

  • SAP career with BPO experience

    HI All,
I have worked for BPO organization(Banking- residential Mortgage)for 8 years and overall I have 12 years of experience.
Now I am planning of taking up career in SAP. Can you please guide me.
    Abt my self :
Commerce graduate, started my  career in Sales FMCG products. Last worked for BPO organization wherein supporting the Leading North Americans banks Mortgage domain.
If I take up SAP FI/CO, will that help me in career ? Is SAP certification is necessary to get the job?
    Awaiting reply
    Please advise,

    Sunshine
Having domain experience in manufacturing/ supply chain is useful, and in my mind, a necessary pre-requisite for being a good SAP SCM functional consultant. However, the reality is that the industry does not value domain experience as much as they should, especially most offshoring companies in India.
Certification/ Training are somewhat useful, but they don't gaurentee anything, least of all getting a job. My advice is always first be sure if you want to switch career tracks from domain to consulting. Remember that the grass is greener.....Talk to people already in the area about travel requirements, working hours, etc.
But if you are certain, the best way is to probably to join an SAP implementation partner. Talk to them about your interest in SAP SCM and domain background. Be prepared to start from the first rung of a very tall ladder. Try to get on an SCM project even if its a support role. Get involved in internal activities such as proposal development, pre-configured solutions. See if they will sponsor certification/ training.
Opportunities in SAP SCM are a mixed bag. Projects are smaller compared to ERP implementations, so number of resources required are fewer. On the other hand number of available skilled resources is also smaller. Supply Chain Planning is a high priority for clients, but many of them don't have the maturity level required to implement advanced planning systems or are unwilling to commit to the effort/ expense.
Best of luck and keep the sun shining high !

  • HP Envy 13 1030nr. Windows 7 64-bit. RAM upgrade help.

I just purchased a RAM upgrade for my Envy 13 and I was trying to figure out how exactly to access the memory module.  I couldn't find a youtube video for the Envy 13 and reading the maintenance manual provides only partial instructions to access the memory module.  It tells you what you need to do (Disconnect the TouchPad cable 2 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board) but not how to do it without damaging the computer.  I don't want to permanently sever a cable or anything so I'm looking for help via a link to a video or more detailed instructions on exactly how to safely access the memory module.
I was under the impression that this would be a quick replacement, but the more I read the manual, the more I think that this is going to be a little more complicated than opening up the bottom and removing the current RAM chip and replacing it with the one I have.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here is the Manual:

Memory is indeed on the motherboard and getting there requires nearly complete disassembly. See Page 4-26. Not sure how this qualifies as "easy" and if you have not done this before you should get some help. And yes, keep careful track of those screws.

  • PO creation from Accepted bid

    Hi All
We are on SRM 7.0 classic scenario.
Trying to create a local PO from an accepted bid in Plan driven scenario
    1) Is there a way to alter the quantity in the PO, or create partial PO's from 2 or more accepted bids.
I didn't see any way to do this as the PO is instantaneously triggered & no option to change
    2) The scales and Pricing conditions entered by the supplier in the bid , are not transferred to the PO?
Only the final Price calculated , based on the conditions is transferred? Is there a way to transfer the conditions and scales too?
    3) The bidder can enter the validity dates in the Price conditions. However what is the effect of those? If the buyer tries to create a PO from the accepted bid, beyond the validity date, is there a hard stop error?
Is there any other place at Header level, where the bidder can specify the validity date for the bid, except the conditions?
    Thanks

  • Help needed selecting module for a QA guy.

    Hi guys,
My friend has close to seven years of domain experience in Quality Assurance relevant to Process definition(tailoring), training, implementation and conducting audits by supporting the following verticals - Financial Services, System Software, Semi, Information Management, Aerospace, Automotive, CAD, Application related projects and support functions (like Procurement, HR and Training, System Administration)
He has worked for companies like HCL, Capgemini and EDS.
He wants to change his career track and come into SAP.  He has been getting ambiguous suggestions and advises from authorised training centres and others on selecting the module. He has been advised to take up SD / MM / QM / PS. Could anyone please advise which module he would fit into.
    Thanks in advance.
    Zubair

    Thanks Amol for the advice.
My friend doesn't belong to an engineering background and had not worked in a manufacturing environment.
He holds an MBA degree specialised in systems and has worked in software companies supporting software projects and the functions(like HR,Procurement in the same setup) as a software quality guy.
Moreover the modules mentioned by you requires engineering background with manufacturing exposure.
He had enquired for the course at siemens and they said that he may not be suitable for any of the modules offered by them as per the above reasons. They also mentioned that they have to check with SAP Labs for expert opinion.
    Please provide your inputs.
    regards,
    Zubair.

  • Imac 24" issues

    Hi all,
I recently inherited an imac 24" 2008 model, the only catch being that the original owner removed the hard drive, no problem I thought....  After receiving the imac and plugging it in, the unit started, fans immedialy activate and fun full power, and the screen starts in a yellow colour heavily pixalated in what i can only describe as a 70s looking wall paper patten.
I removed the screen, and inserted a new 1tb sata drive, from a previous windows pc (installed with windows etc), and checked that all of the temp sensors were in place again, after trying the unit again, same result, and it will not respond to any keyboard commands, or perhaps it does and I just cant see it...  sometimes the apple log pops up over the 70s wallpaper, not always....
I have a usb drive, formatted guid, complete with the installESD file (downloaded from apple store via my macbook), and iam trying to install osx onto the harddrive (fat 32 installed with windows at the mo).. if i boot the unit pressing option command (boot order right?) nothing happens....  (on a win keyboard it should be the windows key and Alt correct)
Ive toyed with the idea of purchasing osx on dvd and trying that way, but i guess that would also require the boot order to be changed?
Any ideas here would be a big fat help, as you probebly realise I am not very experience with mac, and the whole idea of not having a bios just freaks me out
    Thanks!!

In my experience, Apple's techs are generally very competent. If they say it's a hardware problem, it almost always is. The reason the repairs are so expensive is it isn't very practical to repair the multilayer printed circuit boards used in all modern computers so the only viable alternative is to replace the whole board, at least if you are going to guarantee your work.
Also, having opened up a lot of Macs & other similar gear, I know how easy it is to damage circuit boards & other components if you aren't careful. Just mixing up a few screws & putting a too long one in the wrong place can short out something it contacts, blowing out the whole board. Tiny surface mount components are easy to knock off the board with just a bump in the wrong place & it's hard to even notice the part is missing. Clearances are so tight in some areas that unless cables are rerouted exactly as they ran originally they can be damaged during reassembly.
When I tear down this kind of gear, I take lots of closeup pictures to use as references for reassembly & keep careful track of where each screw & fastener goes. And I never apply power unless everything is either back in place, firmly screwed down, or for a few items I have added an improvised ground path if they are going to dangle free. And of course, I follow all the usual anti-static handling precautions, including using a conductive mat to place assemblies on if they are removed from the device.
Hopefully, your friend was careful when he removed the HD; if not, your problem easily could be a hardware one.

  • Raid 10 showing degraded, but both raid 0's are fine.

    So 4 x 1TB black caviars.
2 sets of stripped, then mirrored together to make the raid 10.
Both stripped raid sets are fully online, just the raid 1, is showing up as degraded.
There is no rebuild option in disk utililty 13.
How do I go about via the terminal getting the raid 1 (a mirror of the stripped sets) to rebuild?

Also, Apple seems to call your setup RAID 0+1.
The bad news, as always, is that it appears you cannot just tell it to rebuild. You have to tear the array apart or add new blank drives, then you can rebuild it after that.
My experience with Apple Raids (now a bit dated) was that drives that had marginal blocks requiring too many retries cause a Mirrored array to become Degraded, sometimes dumping the drive that was too slow (or sometimes not). You may want to add at least one new drive and re-Zero [write Zeroes to get spares substituted] the one you replace, then prepare to do that again when/if it Degrades again. Keep careful track of what has been done to each drive!

  • Excite 10 dribbling Away Available Memory

I have an Excite 10  16gb Tablet.  It loses available memory with every use, even if wifi & bluetooth were Off.  Several hundred megabytes become unusable with each use, even when NO apps are added, data in form of pictures, videos or documents are created or stored.  The sum total of the files and apps using "Storage" in Settings is about 2.7 gb.  It says Total space is 12.56gb.  but says only .93 gb is Available  EVEN THOUGH the bar graph shows about 3/4's of the space is available.(This shows about 9 gb free, but the tab data below says .93 gb or 930 mb)  and tabulated numbers for the external  SD card all agree. I've watched this available memory steadily decrease especially once it went below 7.0 gb.   It's the internal memory (SD Card) that's screwed up.  I've gone through this cycle once already.  It eventually will go down to only a 100 or so mb available and basically stop working.  I factory reset.  Reloaded apps and transfered Some data back on to the device and carefully tracked my internal storage with both the Andorid Settings and "File Expert HD"--a 3rd party file manager. For every app installed, and every picture taken or stored, every document created, etc.    It's like the device uses memory for temp storage/stystem uses but never releases it when it's finished.
ICS 4.0.3  (as received from factory)  AT300 (from Settings/About Tablet Model Number  BUT BOX  Tag says AT305,  Box and internal serial numbers agree)
Kernal and Build number available if needed fromSettings/Device/About Tablet
I understand Apps store Data and have caches.  Using Settings/Apps and adding the data for EVERY APP I am still WAY UNDEr 3 gb  of Apps, App Data AND CACHES, and user Data (files, pictures, videos, music, yada yada)

    [ASAP methodology|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/home/asap%2bfocus%]
ASAP methodology is one methodlogy used in implementing SAP .
The ASAP methodology adheres to a specific road map that addresses the following five general Phases:
    Project Preparation, in which the project team is identified and mobilized, the project Standards are defined, and the project work environment is set up;
    Blueprint, in which the business processes are defined and the business blueprint document is designed;
    Realization, in which the system is configured, knowledge transfer occurs, extensive unit testing is completed, and data mappings and data requirements for migration are defined;
Final Preparation, in which final integration testing, stress testing, and conversion testing are conducted, and all end users are trained; and
Go-Live and Support, in which the data is migrated from the legacy systems, the new system are activated, and post-implementation support is provided.
ASAP incorporates standard design templates and accelerators covering every functional area within the system, as well as supporting all implementation processes. Complementing the ASAP accelerators, the project manager can create a comprehensive project plan, covering the overall project, project staffing plan, and each sub-process such as system testing, communication and data migration. Milestones are set for every work path, and progress is carefully tracked by the project management team.
    Hope it will help you.

  • Defining what Aperture regards as a 'new' file.

If I import referenced file from a directory, then something changes the mtime of that file, Aperture regards it as a 'new' file and I end up with what appears to be two masters identical in appearence with the same file name.
The behaviour I expected was that a new file was just that -- a file that hadn't been there before.
I've done this by mistake twice -- and now once deliberately.
This is a problem.  If metadata has already been written, then each file must be checked to see if it is the one with metadata in order to eliminate the correct duplicate.
(I'm scanning images for an alumnni school llibrary.  I have 20 milk crates of albums to do.  I typically will scan while watching the tube in the evening, then apply metadata later in the evening. Each binder is a 'project'
I can the following ways to work with this:
    1.  Don't even think about applying any metadata until a project is complete.
This way, any time I import twice, I can just chuck that whole project and re-import.
    2.  Carefully track the last file name entred, and make sure that I don't have any thing aready in the library checked for import.  This is tedious.
    3.  Create new folders as needed so that no folder is ever used twice for import.
    4.  As I add metadata, also give pix a rating. In eliminating duplicates, I just do ones that are not rated.
    Is there a better answer?
Is there a way I can tell aperture "don't import duplicates" means don't import a file if there is a file of that name?
If you want to reproduce this error:
    Import a folder of files.
Open a terminal window, and navigate to that folder.
    Run the command "touch *"
Now all the files will show up if you import from that folder AND have Don't import duplicates checked.

I'm not sure just what I'd done the accidental times.  I think it was using photosweeper, a duplicate and similar pic finder. (Recommended, BTW)
However I end up with TWO images in the browser that act like separate masters that both refer to the same external referenced file.  Not clear what happens if I delete a version and master.  I'll try that in my test folder.
As to the other problem.  I used referenced files, because I use programs other than Aperture.  Which is one of the reasons it's easy to shoot myself in the foot, I'll admit.
    As an example:
Import a set of files from a folder.
    Chuck the duds.
Use external program to write NAD27 location data to geotag.
Reprocess masters to pull the geotag data.
Now that I'm aware of the problem, I'll just delete versions and re-import, and NOT assign metadata while a project is in flux.
(As an example of a project that is in flux -- I own a tree farm.   Over the course of a year, I take several thousand pictures for inventory.  With this bug, I'll make sure that each day's shoot comes in as a separate project initially, and then after I've done with it, I'll move those pictures into the long term project.  Probably a better work flow anyway)
As to the two cameras issue.  I don't have two Nikons, but I ran into that problem when I was teaching photography.  Most cameras allow you to change the prefix.  I had my students change it from IMG to their initials.
In your camera case, to me it is unlikely that you would have both cameras iimporting into the same folder with the same number.  Still, this is a reasonable border case.  My requirements for unique file name would be within the same folder.  With internal files, Aperture renames them according to date and time I think.
For referenced files imported from a folder a pre-existing name should be reprocessed, with metadata merged.  That would be my usual reaction.  But there should be choices.
Consider:  If I moved the file there, I've ALREADY clobbered the old master.  It doesn't exist anymore. Aperture should detect this and do the right thing.
More signficantly, if Aperture wrote INTO the file something like "Aperture imported on {hostname} Aperture ID 1122334455 or whatever string Aperture uses for a key for this image in it's internal database, then:
A:  Aperture recognizes that some other program as been messing about.
B:  Aperture knows that this file is already in it's database, but MIGHT have been modified. (And therefore should be flagged for the owner to check adjustments.)
Aperture could do some things that are more clever:  When it suspects changes in the file, I extracts a new preview.  The new preview is compared to the old one.  If Identical, then the image is the same.  If different but close, and in the same project, the user is alerted, and asked   Keep both?  Keep newer  Keep older Keep newer, and move metadata...  Remember choices for rest of this import.
As a more extreme example:  My scanner creates TIFFs.  A 2000 x 3000 pixel image of a slide is about 45 MB.  As a png file (exact same data, but better compression) it's about 30 MB.  I'd like to import, sort, change to png.  Instead I change to png before import.  It's uses more cpu cycles since I'm processing files that will be discarded, but cpu cycles are cheap.
    Part 2 of this answer:
Because I keep referenced files and because Aperture doesn't track derivative files, I try to give my photos meaningful names, so that from the name of a file much of it's pedigree is apparent. If Aperture tracked masters by an internal tag, then derivative files would be a LOT easier to track.  Aperture could then go with the flow if I used a perl script to rename files.
So, for example, I've done many canoe trips.  The first one was on the Fond du Lac river in northern Saskathewan.  So they are renamed FDL-001  FDL-002.  Now that I'm no longer limited by dos nameing conventions (or writing them in tiny print on the edge of a slide) I'm more likely to name them Fond_du_Lac-75-001

  • X6 problems with popups - missing images

We recently purchased RoboHelp X6 and generated a X5 project
in X6 and the popups that were working fine in X5 (gif images) are
now not working (not showing up in output file).
Anyone have this problem? Some of them have conditional
tagging as well. Any suggestions? We are going to try and
troubleshoot by removing the conditional tagging and see if that is
the problem, but I just wondered if X6 was handling autosizing
    popups differently than in X5??

Alas, the RH 6 hyperlink dialog for auto- and custom-sizing
popups lists .htm files and bookmarks only. As you have discovered,
you can use the "Display in frame" feature, specify a new window,
and you get your popup. But you lose the click-close feature. The
user has to click the "X."
I'd like to make a couple of points.
    1. Direct placement of any file into the project's Windows
directory deprives RH of the "knowledge" that the file is part of
the project. When you insert a link to the file, RH adds it to the
    project list.
    2. You can import images as baggage files, and RH will keep
track of them in the project database. However, popup dialogs don't
    list baggage image files.
    3. Instead, I save screen captures elsewhere. I often crop,
resize and otherwise fiddle with images for graphic effect. I
prefer not to work from the graphics application in the RH project
folder, because I would have to keep careful track of which images
already are linked. Resizing a linked image distorts the output
because its original dimensions are in the html code. I would have
to go back and re-link to the revised image.
    4. When it's ready to be brought into the project, I import
an image into a new topic, sometimes with a headline or caption,
but usually with no text. If I have a lot of them, sometimes I add
a folder to the project explorer for popups and use a file name
like homescreen_pop.htm to remind me of which topic it belongs to.
Since it's an htm file, it appears in the popup hyperlink
    file list.
Yes, it's an extra step. I find it well worth the trouble.

  • FTP dictionary attack - how to prevent ?

I'm already searched the board but haven't found a solution for our problem:
During the last weeks the server was being hit by attacks looking like a dictionary attack. Someone tries to log in by ftp thousands of times. This made the server to reboot and finally destroying its mail database, which I rebuilt.
My biggest problem however is how to prevent this in the future ? Unfortunately the server is used by a nonprofit organization, so we can't spend thousands for intrusion prevention firewall hardware.
But isn't there a way to configure something like "Each IP is allowed to try logging in via ftp only X number of times per hour" for the ftp service ? I think this would help us.
I already set to close connections after one wrong password try using Server Admin. By default it was set to "3". But guess that this doesn't really help.
    Any idea would be appreciated.

No, the people here are used to access the server by ftp and I can't do much. Unfortunately.
There are alternatives that are (usually) easier to use than ftp. (In my experience, most end-users aren't running a shell-level ftp command, they're running some sort of a front-end or GUI-based ftp client. Finder, perhaps. Which means most don't know they're even running ftp, in any real sense.)
Also aren't most CMS more vulnerable to DoS attacks and intrusion attempts ? It's complex software with lots of security holes.
    Valid concerns, certainly.
You do realize that ftp transmits the username and password credentials in cleartext, right?
Anybody that peeves somebody else sufficiently can end up getting hit with a DoS or (worse) a DDoS or a dictionary attack. Sometimes, you don't even need to peeve somebody. I've dealt with a case of a user launching a DoS to get a tactical advantage over another user in an online game, too.
Yes, CMS installations can be vulnerable; pick wisely, and stay current. An administrator need do the same thing with a CMS as with most anything else web-facing; evaluate security carefully, track updates and security notices and generally keep a lid on the riff-raff.
But if you have a situation where you can use, for instance, certificate-based access, you can block most of the trouble and you can block typical open access.
I find http://www.aczoom.com/cms/blockhosts being an interesting thing. However it's from 2005 - is it still actual or outdated ?
I tend to either run fairly locked down with the web server and fairly defensive around, or (where applicable) use mod_security, or both.
And a typical recommendation is to use an out-board firewall, and to house your address-based defenses and blacklists out there. Having users "loose" on the firewall (and I include myself in that) means that a mistake or a configuration change on the server can potentially open up an exposure. I much prefer to have the extra step of connecting to the firewall.
A VPN server can also be housed out on a firewall (or host-based, if you're so inclined), which can allow you to run ftp and other protocols more securely.
I do block some IP subnets. But the attacks I (still) see are from all over the IPv4 address space.

  • Tips for Analyzing a Vocal Audio Problem?

I am having the most incredible bad luck with an audio quality issue that is, 99% of the time, VERY easy to deal with in AA. I have a female lead vocal track recorded last year that sounds, just on the louder notes, like it has a brittle, high-frequency rattle (for lack of more specific terms). It isn't likely to be distortion, since I carefully tracked any clipping issues at every stage (though I certainly am not the world's expert on distortion/harmonics).
I thought it would be a 30-second treatment with the EQ...find the offending frequencies and lower them. But I can't seem to find them! I have swept a sample of the file through what seems like hundreds of frequencies in the AA parametric EQ, and tried all the filter tools I could find.
Can anyone suggest a better way in AA3 to analyze this file?
I'm not necessarily looking for how to fix this particular problem, since my description of "brittle, high-frequency rattle" is really fuzzy. I'm just hoping there's some tool in AA3 that I have missed or zoned on.
    Thanks!
    Ken

    >Can anyone suggest a better way in AA3 to analyze this file?
In practice there's only one reliable way to do this - and it involves the parametric EQ. You select one band only, and a relatively high Q value; at least 15-20 usually. You then set this band to about 20dB
boost, and sweep it up and down over the offending material. When you find one of the trouble spots, it's going to shriek out at you. But at least then you will know which frequency to cut, and with a bit of experimentation, you should be able to come up with suitable settings. It's always worth experimenting with the Q values when you do the cut as well - you want the lowest value and shallowest cut you can get away with - but if you can manage to pinpoint just one offending frequency, you may well get away with less cut and more Q - you have to experiment.
It's very rare that any other method of analysis is good enough to do what's required - spectral response graphs often don't have the resolution, and if you set the FFT size high enough, then they can't operate in real time - or quickly enough at all, in fact. So the EQ 'boost' method remains favourite...
