Socket can connect only to LocalHost, no other place

There is a server and a client. The server is listening to port 4444 for a connection request.
The client uses the clientSocket to conenct to the server.
Socket clientSocket=new Socket(ip,port);
If I initialize ip to "LocalHost" , the client connects to the server. Also if I connect to internet then write my ip, 216.213....... it also connects to the server. I.e the client works when both the server and the client are on the same computer. But if the server is on another computer, client doesn't connect to it. I tried disabling the firewall to, but it didn't work.
Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening?
thanks.

What do you mean by testing? I tried using telnet it works and I wrote ping <myip> to command and it also worked if you mean these by testing or I couldn't understand.
By the way the problem certainly is not on the code because I tried to connect to my computer (which is running the server) from another compute running the client and they connected.
So I can receive data from outside but I cannot send.
I'm not so experienced about networks I couldn't still find a way to solve this.

  • Suddenly my ethernet and firewall are no longer connected. router is good...and can connect only using wifi...suggestions?

suddenly my ethernet and firewall are no longer connected. router is good...and can connect only using wifi...suggestions?

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

  • My safari can connect to the Internet, but other apps can't. I am using ipad3 wifi edition

My safari can connect to the Internet, but other apps can't. I am using ipad3 wifi edition

I have managed to resolve it. What I found is I typed in a wrong password when one app loaded. That app gave a misleading network connectivity error. Other apps are connecting fine now.

  • Why can i only send photos to other iphone users?

my plan includes SMM sending, but i can only send photos to other iphones

Photos to other iPhone users are probably being sent as iMessages. Is the accompanying text in a blue text balloon? To ensure that MMS is enabled on your phone for regular phones, go to Settings, Messages, make sure MMS Messaging is on under SMS/MMS.

  • I cannot connect to wireless from Ipad when I could 2 days ago.  Still can connect to same wireless from other PC.  What settings do I need to check?

I recently cannot connect to my neighbors wireless with my Ipad.  I can connect with my PC.  I feel like I have shanged a setting by accident but do not know where to start to correct this.  I have the password to the account.

Are you receiving the signal? Do you see the white "fan" WiFi indicator in the upper left corner of the iPad screen?
Go to Settings>WiFi> and see if the network name is showing on the iPad. If the name is showing, you can try this ...
Tap on the network name, then tap on the blue arrow next to the network name and then tap Forget this Network. Restart your iPad then go to the settings again, tap WiFi - tap on the network name - enter the password and see if you can connect again.
Normally I would suggest unplugging the router for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again, but this is your neighbor's WiFi? Does he know you are using his WiFi access? If so, what a great guy!
Here is how to restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • I'm affraid I lost my "Word" document of 30 pages. I can see only stars, squares and other strange figures. How can I recover this? Please I need help!!!

I need help! My daughter is busy with her final studyprogram. Her "word" document changed into stars and other strange figures. Is there a possibility to recover this. I hope someone can help her!!!! thanks jvdharst

Are you using the latest version of MS Word?  It’s possible you can restore the corrupt file from the last saved version or the automatically saved version.  Have you tried that?  MS Word uses a folder called Autorecover to store temporary versions of your file.  Hopefully there’s a good version in that folder.  Use Finder to search for Autorecover if needed.

  • HT3819 Can you only share music with others comming from one apple id at a time?

I want to share music from multiple accounts. Is this possible?

If you create a new ID for her, she will no longer be able to share the apps that you purchased with your ID - unless she signs out out of her account on the iDevice and then signs back in with yours if she want to use or update those apps.

  • No ipod can connect to my machine

I have searched and searched, and I have not found anyone with this specific problem. At this point, I am fairly confident that the problem is in my computer and not my ipod, as my ipod can connect just fine to any other machine. Additionally, any other ipod connected to my computer experiences the same problems.
Upon connecting an ipod to my new Mac Pro, one of four things happens:
    1. Absolutely nothing.
    2. My ipod acknowledges that is has been connected, but it does not mount on the desktop or in itunes.
    3. The ipod mounts, but I receive an error from itunes informing me that the the ipod count not be properly identified, and I should reconnect it.
    4. On rare occasions, my ipod begins syncing, but gets "stuck" on a certain song, and will not progress farther even after hours of waiting.
In all of these instances, I am never able to safely disconnect the ipod, and I'm forced to just pull the plug on it.
I have tried the following steps to remedy this situation:
    • I have followed the 5Rs.
    • I have tried every USB port on my machine, and with different USB cables.
    • I have reinstalled the "ipod support" files from the Leopard install disk.
    • I have reinstalled itunes, including trashing the itunes preferences from my user Library, trashing my itunes playlist, and rebuilding my entire music library.
    • I have run software update, and I have ensured that itunes and the OS are up to date.
So far, none of these things has had an effect. The only thing I have not attempted is completely reinstalling the OS, which I would like to avoid if at all possible. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

    Welcome to the Forum.
Sounds most annoying. If the iPod connects to any other machine without issue, as you say, we can assume the problem is with yours. When did this start happening? Did you upgrade to 10.5.4 from 10.5.3 via software update? If so, it might be worth installing the 10.5.4 Combo update over the top. It's a big download, and not for slow internet users, but these combo updates have been known to sort out a number of seemingly unexplained issues, as they will repair any damaged/corrupt code as they contain all previous updates - worth a go.

  • Internet connection only when making a phone call

    Thanks

Thanks for the usefull information, I've contacted BT they are my telephone provider here in the UK, and they did a line test, not a mechanical test as by an engineer, and said the line is OK. My in-comming & out-going calls are fine, but with interference on the line. How did you get past this problem?

  • Cannot get iMac to connect to AE or TC wireless, can connect by ethernet

I Cannot get iMac to connect to AE or TC wireless, can connect by ethernet. All other devices (iPad, Apple TV, Roku, iPhone, iPad Touch) can connect to wireless network without any issues. OS is 10.6.6, both apple TC and AE are current with their software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AE=Airport Extreme? or Express? - you mention TC (Time Capsule) above, but, I don't want to assume.
*Sorry, it is Extreme, and yes TC is Time Capsule*
If Time Capsule, have you tried to a reset? - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
    *Yes did full factory reset*
What band are your using - 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz?
    *2.4 GHz*
What is your TC connected to - what type of router - cable or dsl?
    Cable
Thanks again for your patience in helping to resolve!

  • HT4279 I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

  • I am using Mavericks 10.9.4. I have Safari 7.0.6. I cannot connect to google, youtube and other sites because "safari cannot establish a secure connection" to these servers. Any ideas? Note that Google Chrome can connect to these sites.

Just recently I notice that quite often I cannot connect to sites using Safari (7.0.6). I am using the Mavericks 10.9.4 OS. Often when I go to somewhere else, I can connect and then back at home the connection works. However, the connection at home can suddenly decide not to connect to these sites. I am not sure whether it is a problem with my router or not, but then again, Chrome does connect to these sites as well as windows 7 (even when using Safari on windows). So it seems like there is some issue with my Mac at my home. But not always - so this is the confusing part.
Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior? If so, I'd appreciate, if not a solution, at least some cause for this.
    Thanks.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press thereturn key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press returnthree times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
