Software Updates - C. Deployment States report

Please help me if I run Software Updates - C. Deployment States report. I am getting compliant, below other status so these status means software updates instated? Then why it
is not showing as compliant Installing update(s), successfully installed update(s), waiting for another installation to complete.

To see the real compliance of the installed updates you should look at the compliance reports. For a specific software update group you could use the report
Compliance 3 - Update group (per update).

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - PowerShell command to create a software update group deployment DISABLED by default

    Hello,
I create deployment jobs using new Powershell cmdlet "Start-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment". However it looks there is no way with this cmdlet to create a job which is disabled by default.
Is it possible ? As an alternative, which cmdlet could I use to manage enable/disable job state ? I have not found anything so far.

  • I'm not able to download Itunes.  I keep getting this Apple Software Update message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your package vendor"

Not able to access Itunes store anymore.  Just quit working for no reason.  I've tried deleting Itunes and related components from the Control Panel, but when I try to remove Apple Software Update, I get a message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  Not sure what this message means.  Am I suppose to contact Apple ?  What is meant by package vendor ?

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm.  So will have to wait

  • Safari 6.0 5, iCal, Software update, Dashboard have crash reports

    Hallo!
Safari 6.0 5, iCal, Software update, Dashboard crashing on my MacBook Pro.
    I have Mac Os X v10.7.5.
Should I post here all crash reports?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello ...
If Safari, iCal, Software Update, and Dashboard are all crashing, there's no need to post multiple crash reports. The startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permisions)
If repairs are necessary, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. Let go of the keys when you see the spinning progress indicator. You will see a window with the built-in utilities to repair the disk and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery
Apple does recommend a high speed broadband internet connection for OS X Recovery.

  • Modifying a Software Update Group Deployment via PowerShell

    Good Morning Guys -
Recently, I created numerous Software Update Group (SUG) advertisements to a variety of collections using a PowerSHell script I wrote.  It used the cmdlet "Set-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment" which is described by Microsoft as "Modifies a
software update deployment in Configuration Manager."  Below is the command I used for the advertisement I'm using as an example here:
Start-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment -SoftwareUpdateGroupName "Workstation Related - Mar 2014 Deployment" -CollectionName "Workstation Patch Management - Window #5 - 3rd Monday - Auto Restart" -DeploymentName "Workstation Patch Management - Window #5 - 3rd Monday - Auto Restart" -DeploymentType Required -VerbosityLevel OnlySuccessAndErrorMessages -TimeBasedOn UTC -DeploymentAvailableDay 2014/3/17 -DeploymentAvailableTime 5:00 -DeploymentExpireDay 2014/3/17 -DeploymentExpireTime 5:00 -UserNotification DisplaySoftwareCenterOnly -SoftwareInstallation $False -AllowRestart $False -RestartServer $False -RestartWorkstation $False -ProtectedType NoInstall -UnprotectedType NoInstall
What I'm needing to do, though, is change many of these advertisements from "Required" to "Available" using PowerSHell again.  Since it's described as "modifies," I assumed that I could run the exact same line used to create
the advertisement, except only change the "Required" string to "Available."  The advertisement name is the same, so I thought it would work.
When I ran it,  it simply created another advertisement with the same name:
Am I doing something incorrectly when trying to modify the advertisement or is what I've trying to do even possible with this cmdlet?  If not possible, any suggestions you have as to how I could do what I'm trying to do on a large scale would be appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Ben K.

I just tried on a required deployment:
set-cmsoftwareupdatedeployment -softwareupdategroupname "My Group Name" -deploymentname "My deploymentname" -collectionname "my collection name" -deploymenttype "available"
And it changed to Available. Not sure why that isn't working for you.

  • Software Updater comes on, states that I urgently need this update. Yet when I agree the s/w update server connection goes on an on but do not seem to connect. What is the problem?

I have a Dell PC. This Software Updater comes on saying I need to update . I states that I urgently need this update! Norton says okay. I go ahead and approve. Then it start...updater connecting to update server... and it goes on an on and on. until I turned it off.
I have done that several times. I have even left it on to go on about my business. But apparently it hasn't unloaded anything because it keeps coming back on when I start up my computer.
    Is this your updater?

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Software Update report

I need to make a report for all software updates which we have not pushed via SCCM but Microsoft released it

Hi. May be this help you - in Reporting - Reports - Software Updates - B Deployment Management - Updates required but not deployed

  • Change deployment package for software updates

    Hi there
Currently we have different deployment packages and software update groups based on year, product, etc.
In the near future i'd like to rearange our software deployment process in configuration manager 2012:
1x Deployment Package for all updates
1x "Full" Software Update Groups with all updates in it. Additional to that we'll create a "Diff" Software Update Group at the Patchday and merge the updates later via edit membership in the "Full" Software Update Group.
Are the following steps which i would perform correct?
    1. Select all updates which are deployed and not expired and not superseeded
    2. Create a new Software Update Group "Full"
    3. Select the new Software Update Group --> Download --> Create my new deployment package
    4. Deploy the new software update group to my collections
    5. Delete the obsolete software update groups / deployment package
    6. Delete the old updates source folders on our filer.
I current don't know if the redownload process let the updates "forget" the old deployment package. With the above described steps i should get rid of all expired and superseeded updates.
    Thanks for any advice :-)
    Regards,
    Simon

That is correct they only receive and install the updates they require, but don't confuse the metadata and deployments with the updates themselves. They will still receive the metadata and the policies for every update you deploy to them and that's where
the problem lies. Each and every update assigned to a client (using a deployment) has it's own policy which of course must be downloaded by the client and stored in WMI causing the bloat. Note that I haven't experienced this first-hand but am relying on the
accounts of others here in the forums but to me, if there is any chance of this being an issue, I would avoid it.
For Update Groups, just a few categories is sufficient to break things up and I typically do three: workstations, server, office. These are often on different patching schedules anyway so it makes sense to have three separate ADRs for them anyway.
For packages, I typically organize based on the calendar creating a new package every 3-6 months with the package containing all updates. There's really no need to divide the package up by product unless you have DPs dedicated to a specific product. Note
that pre-R2, to change the package an ADR referenced you had to use PowerShell -- it's been added into the GUI in R2 though.

  • Deadline Randomization and software updates

    Hello,
Over the weekend, I saw that once of our patch groups had a very low compliance rate. After digging deep, it looks like the low compliance rate is a recurring thing, with this weekend's compliance rate being the lowest.
Anyways, while I was trying to find out the reason why this was the case, I saw that some of the machines in the collection targeted by that Software Update Group deployment were in Downloaded Updates state. So I looked at their scheduler.log. Interestingly
I found that the patch installations were deferred to 2 hours after the deadline because of deadline randomization. So for example, our deadline was at 7 AM on Sunday morning and scheduler.log had an entry saying that '....
Machine/{<deployment ID>}' will fire at 8:50 AM with randomization.
What I dont understand is that we have deadline randomization disabled in our default client settings. So my question is that does this setting apply to Soft. Upda. or not?
Also just FYI, we have other client settings with higher priority than the default client settings, but we haven't defined the setting for deadline randomization in those settings, so I believe the default setting for Deadline Rand. will take effect, correct?
    Thanks.

So the default client setting will take precedence.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 -CU3 fails at 'Create Software Update Catalog'

    Hi
I am trying to upgrade SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 to CU3 (skipping CU2) but the upgrade fails in the middle with following message in the log
Task 'Create Software Update Catalog' completed, state is 'failed' ExceptionText: Error: Setup detected an unexpected problem during installation. Error message: A valid file name is required.
    Parameter name: fileName
I have checked following article but it does not fixed mine.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/05ddea79-ca6c-4958-bd54-ceac4b787dd9/problem-installing-sccm-2012-r2-hotfix-kb2905002-wdsosd-slowness-issue?forum=configmanagerosd
Already uninstalled CU3 and reinstalled it with no luck so I was wondering anyone has any ideas as what might be causing it?
    Thanks

    ** RESOLVED **
After attempting several times and uninstalling when it failed, finally it got installed successfully.
Since I was skipping CU2 so I thought to install that as well before installing CU3. However, the CU2 also failed at Admin Console update.  Re started installing CU3 but this time I choose not to create deployment packages for client, server and console.
Not sure if that fixed it or CU2 but I am glad its over now. After installing CU3 successfully, ran the installer again to create all required deployment packages for console, client and server.
    All looks good now.

  • Software Updates - Past Due - Will be Installed

I've got a major problem that I need help with asap.  All of our software updates are coming on the clients as "Past Due - Will be Installed".  This just started happening this week out of nowhere.  Application deployments and package
deployments work fine, it's only with software updates.  I've recreated deployments, recreated software update groups and deployment packages and such.
Everything online points to a in Client Settings that is "Agent extension manage the deployment of applications and software updates", but that is set to false and has never changed.  Again this is only for software updates, not for anything
else.  We're using System Center 2012 R2, HELP!

Are your software updates groups deployed?
Can you post a screen shot of the message from one of the clients?

  • OSD Software Updates

Few of Questions on Software Updates:
    1.  Why does this process seem to take so long?
I am using this process in my Task Sequence for Windows Updates in OSD (Link)
I am using this process for Software Updates (Link) (Yearly Update Group) & (Monthly Update Group that Updates the 2014 Update Group after Patch
    Tuesday)
    2.  I have my task sequence set as mentioned above and when running Install Software Updates I it installs 48 Updates and then reboots.  Then it comes up to Setup is preparing your computer for first use and start running nstall Software Updates
I and then it eventually gets an error code (0x0000ADDA)
    3.  Also after I realized that there were several Office 2007 Updates being installed I went through and downloaded all of them and put them in my package for Office 2007 under the Updates folder.  I am thinking those are not being applied since
there were so many office updates being installed during the Install Software Updates I task.  The files I downloaded are .exe files do I need to extract these files and have them as .msp?
Please share your thoughts on the processes I am following at this time and what your thoughts are to resolve this issue... Let me know if you disagree with the process I am following... Starting to think for a OSD perspective I might need to have Software
Update Group/Deployment Package for Windows 7 only updates??  Let me know if you need Log information and what log you need.
    Thanks in Advance

    1. Well It just takes that long, because it takes time to apply the updates unless we are taking about a really long time. If I apply all Windows 7 SP1 post updates (around 120) it takes about 2,5 - 3 hours to do a buld and capture.
    2. The install Software Update step in ConfigMgr 2012 is not completely reliable and for that reason a lot of people is using MDT to do the Build and Capture stuff. Other options might be using injecting the updates into the image from the ConfigMgr 2012
    console (Offline servicing)
I have seen the issue you are descriping before and it usually means that you are trying to install to many updates in your TS and ConfigMgr 2012 only have a certain number of threads to use. Or it could be that some of the updates require a restart (and
restarts on it own), which makes you TS error out when it resumes after the restart.
    3. Yes you need to extract the downloaded exe in order to get the MSP files and place them in the Updates folder together with your Office source files. You can find the syntax here for extracting the exe files:
