Sold a faulty power adaptor which set fire to the plug socket.

I recently purchased a power adaptor (not the USB cable) in order to charge my iPod. This purchase, admittedly was from Amazon, however, the seller claimed to be an authorised seller and that the product was genuine. When the item arrived, it was much lighter than the authentic power adaptor I had previously, and the USB insert was upside down. After unsuccessfully attempting to charge my iPod using the product, the product began to hiss and caught light, slightly. The seller's feedback profile was not available when I went to purchase.
I am writing this, as I am very aware that many people are fooled into the same dealings, and I hope to contribute to Apple by helping them to atleast reduce this counterfeit.

Hello
Just one question: Was the store an authorized service provider?
I mean if the socket might have been faulty from production it should be definitively covered by warranty. I dont know what parts must be replaced but I also think that the complete mainboard must be replaced because normally the socket is soldered on the mainboard.
So go to the nearest authorized service provider that you can find on the Toshiba website and explain the situation. The technicians can check this and tell you if its covered by warranty or not.

  • Power Adaptor broke can't use the computer

I got my computer earlier this year. I don't know what is going on but something broke in my power adaptor. I now cannot charge my computer at all. Can I get that replaced since it's so new? Or am I screwed cause it's passed 3 months? I saw theres a limited 1 year warrenty. What do I do? I'm on a Kinko's computer right now, so I can always come back to check any responces. TY

As I posted earlier, my daughter's iBook has been back to Apple for repairs several times. The power adapter was replaced earlier. Now they say the power adapter is defective. Last trip they said I needed to buy a new battery. I was able to persuade the support person this should had been the first thing to check when we first took it in, when it would have been within the period where defective would had been a proper description of the battery.
While at Apple this week they have replaced the battery (under the recall program) and returned it to CompUsa. Unfortunately they didn't include the power adapter which CompUsa will have to order.
We purchased the machine last Fall and the warranty period is fast coming to a close. This hasn't cost us anything but frustration, so far. But sometimes I have to wonder about the service in all areas. Glad some people didn't choose the medical profession!
But back to the question at hand. The adapter should still be under warranty.
At the very least it should fall under "defective workmanship/materials"
    Good luck.

  • Toshiba Recovery method - Which set up is the best

I have purchased a new lap top and on set up it is asking me to select a recovery method. Options are
    - Recover to out- of -box-state (System Recovery Options are included)
    - Recover without changing the hard drive partitions
    - Recover to a custom size partition
Which is the best option to select?
I am thinking that the custom would be the best once I have made my recovery discs after full set up but want to be sure.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks smilee

    Hi
    - *Recover to out-of-box-state (System Recovery Options are included)*
This Option sets your notebook back, to the Factory default status. The partitions will be deleted and created again, as they have been on the first boot.
Note: All data will be lost and HDD Recovery Option will still be available, if you want to recover your notebook again.
    - *Recover without changing the hard drive partitions*
All data on the first partition will be lost and HDD Recovery Option will be still available, if you want to recover your notebook again.
    - *Recover to a custom size partition*
All data on the HDD will be lost and HDD Recovery Option will not be available anymore, if you want to recover your notebook again. Be sure to have a recovery DVD created for the future

  • My iMac is making a loooouuud fan noise and i can't seem to fix it.. I've tried to unplug it and push the power button for 5 seconds and the plug in it again and turn it on but it doesn't stop! please how can i fix this.. its making me crazy

    Loud imac fan noise

Since it says you have Mac OS X 10.7.4 in your profile information, it sounds like you have an Intel iMac, not a PowerPC iMac.  Is that correct?
The procedure you describe is not exactly the right one for an Intel iMac.  You should follow this procedure to reset SMC (power management)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
When you do it, disconnect ALL peripheral devices from your computer, including your keyboard and mouse.  Connect the power cord only, and power it up that way, initially.
Also, check the vents along the bottom edge of the iMac.  If they are clogged with dusk, it can block proper airflow, which can cause overheating, which can cause the fans to run high.  If the fans runs high immediately after starting up the iMac (when it is cold), this would not be the cause.

  • Lost power mid update, now I get the plug into iTunes logo

I was doing my update for the Apple TV and my friend tripped on the power cable. After that it only displays the connect to itunes logo but I don't know how to connect it to itunes. Any ideas?

Yes that is needed.  Use the microUSB cable alone, no power lead etc.

  • Even the new power adaptors are duds

My Macbook Pro has unfortunately been back to the Apple Trafford Centre on a couple of occasions, its not exactly around the corner either being 108 km away and taking an hour and a half to get there. It went back today to have a faulty power adaptor replaced. In fact the woman in front of me at the Genius (I use the term loosely) bar had the same problem except with a MacBook. She was somehow led to believe that this was her own fault as the genius managed to get it to work and sent here off with her tail between her legs. I'm not having that I thought to myself and settled for a new adaptor "swap out" making it cheaper but still almost 40 quid. When I asked if this had a 12 months warranty I was informed no only 3 months, sadly this was after my credit card had been swiped. regrettably neither I nor the genius thought to check that this new still in it's cellophane adaptor worked. Imagine my surprise when I got back to find that It was worse that the old one I had handed in. I have just got it to work now by trapping the MacBook end of the cable under the adaptor, not ideal but at least I get to vent off a little steam. The moral of this story: they aren't geniuses, trust no one, there's no such thing as a bargain...
This was a new smaller version of the 85w adaptor and all I'm getting is snap and crackle, I'm just waiting for the POP ! I read today that Apple's sales of notebooks have increased by 61% (http://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/29/apple-notebook-shipments-skyrocket-61/), better get some more geniuses at that bar Apple, their going to be busy.

if he said the warranty was three months then he's a not even a genius among amoebae
    it's a year
even then i've had refunds on apple for product issues 3-4 months outside warranty, the trading standards office and small claims court take the refreshing view that what the law says counts and what apple says doesn't, even if warranty is up that doesn't limit your rights in law
if they sold you a pup, complain and demand refund/replacement (plus reasonable travel costs if you travel, but i'd do it by phone on the service number)
apple can give good service, it can also be dire

  • Which cable for USB Power Adaptor

This Nano is my first ipod and I recently purchased a USB Power Adaptor, from ipods4less, to use in the event I didn't have access to a computer to charge it.
I thought the cable that came with the Nano would work but the USB end of the cable is a little too big to plug into the power adaptor.
Would someone be able to tell me exactly what cable I should buy that will plug into this power adaptor?
    Thanks.

I'm wondering - is there such a thing as a firewire adaptor? I'm wondering if instead of a USB power adaptor, which I ordered, ipods4less sent me an adaptor that needs a firewire connector. Since the hole in the adaptor is smaller than the USB plug but it's similar then maybe a firewire is needed.
I sent ipods4less an e-mail and I'm waiting for a response to see if that's the case.

  • Power adaptor doesn't work

My power adaptor doesn't work at times. I have to jiggle in and hold it in at just the right position, for it to work. Would Apple replace a faulty power adaptor like that? Alternatively, is there anything I can do about it?
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Apple will typically replace a faulty power adapter if you are still within your one year warranty period and there are no clear signs of abuse. Just give them a call... or, if you have an Apple store nearby, bring it in. If you go to a store, you should bring your MacBook in as well just to be sure that the problem isn't related to an issue on the MacBook side vs. just the charger.

  • No Power Adaptor--How to Restore

I was trying to restore my old IPOD mini to factory settings. My problem is, in the second step I need to plug the Ipod into the power adaptor it originally came with, however I have lost it over the years. I really don't care if it is restored anymore, I just want to get it working again but can't because it is stuck with a display on the screen of a power adaptor (which unfortunately I do not have). Is there anything I can do to make this display go away and get it working again?

Connect the iPod to a 6-pin FireWire port on a computer, or its power adaptor, or a car adaptor, or a unit such as the iPod Hi-Fi, or try using this method to charge the iPod. If there's a retail Apple Store nearby, they will likely charge it enough for free if it's brought in as well.

  • Third party power adaptor for MacBook Pro?

I am about to lose my second power pack due to under-engineered wiring on these Apple power supplies. The wires are very small and thin, and the strain relief at the entrance to the "brick" is totally inadequate, so the wires end up breaking under daily use. I looked at the iGo website, only to find out that there is some sort of licensing issue with Apple that prevents them from selling tips for the magnetic connectors that are in vogue. Kensington apparently doesn't supply any Apple adaptors anymore.
Does anyone know of a third party company that makes a replacement power supply that will hold up under normal usage for more than a year?
    Thanks

    Hi Justin,
The very first of the square power adaptors (which came with an early white iBook) which we own developed a problem of the kind you mention. Since then we've done one simple thing with all of the many that have followed with a variety of iBooks, PBs, MBs and MBPs, and never lost another.
We simply make a loose loop of the cord around one of the "legs" of the adaptor:
We leave the loop in place both when using the computer and when winding the cord around the legs for transport.
Not what you were asking for, I know, but it has certainly stopped any problems we have had with strain on the cord
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Power adaptor question

Hello, I need to know is the Intel based Mac mini power adaptor (110w) is compatible to the G4 based Mac mini?
    Thanks for any help
    James

When I was looking for an extra power adapter for an Intel Mini, I found many people were selling 85W adapters, meant for the G4 Mini, for use with the Intel version. I made sure I got a 110W version, which is working fine. I'm not of an electrician to know what would happen using a 110W adapter on a computer that's looking for only 85W, but to me it's not a risk worth taking.
    My 2 cents,
    Dan Clark

  • My macbook pro power adaptor getting heated

    Hi
My macbook pro power adaptor getting heated  & ultimately melting the coil which leads to power off.
Is there any solution for that.

    我刚刚尝试了一下,我的电源适配器也好热!但是不至于融化的温度,可以尝试换一个吧。
I just have a try, I find my power adapter is very hot! But it is not the melting temperature.U can try to change another.

  • Macbook power adaptor

I recently had an unexpected house guest, A rather friendly 6 month old rabbit called Puppy.
Puppy has managed to chew the wire on my power adaptor, not the mains cable (as I have read elsewhere) but the one from the power unit to the maglink connector. The power adaptor still works fine but the outer insulation is biten through and the strength and resilience of the cable is compromised.
Can this cable be replaced, ideally by me? There is no obvious way to open either the power unit or the maglink connector, so before trying I thought I would ask.
    Dave
Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I would suggest checking the cable thoroughly to be sure that it is still intact except for the insulation. If it is you could use liquid tape to make a nice clean repair that is almost as good as heat shrink once it sets up.
If the Brick is sealed like I think it is (plastic fusing adhesive) there is no safe, easy way to open it.

  • Battery won't charge, was working off power adaptor, now won't turn on

Noticed my battery wasn't charging, however MacBook was running off the power adaptor. Now it seems the battery has lost all charge and it won't turn on. Should I just buy a new battery, or should it run off the adaptor and I'm looking at a more serious problem?

  • Can I use my Macbook power adaptor in Spain ?

    Hi
I am going on holiday to Tenerife where the voltage is 220v. Can I use the same power adaptor that I use in the UK ? The same goes for my my iPod dock ?

Yes, the power adapter for the MacBook is auto-sensing from 100 V to 240 V---you will be fine. Not sure what you mean by the iPod dock---if you mean the dock that you plug into the USB port---you will be fine. If you mean something else, then I don't know, but I suspect that if it is made by Apple, it will be for use worldwide.
