  • I created a new home folder on an external but didn't move my old files over. Now I can't see the old hard drive in my mac mini. How can I locate that drive?

    I wanted to move my home folder to an external drive. I created a new home folder and in advanced options I moved it over. I didn't however move my files over first, my bad. Now I can't see the hard drive on my mac mini. Is it possible to reverse it or get access to the old home folder and is it possible to still use the mac mini's internal hard drive for storage? How do I find my shared folder, it was on the internal drive. I'm new to macs as you might have guessed at this debockle. Can anyone help?

    I'm using Mavricks. I wanted to move my home directory to an external and went into sys prop/users/advanced options and moved the folder ok. Being a noobie on Macs I didn't copy my data and such. So my settings were all new. Basicly now I don't see the internal drive on my mini. There is a lot of strage I'm not able to access. The internal drive doesn't show up. How can I put a folder back onto it so it shows up?

  • [Solved] Can't install Nvidia driver: Mesa-libgl conflict

    I just finished installing my first GUI, KDE to be exact, on Arch Linux. Right now, I'm using the nouveau driver but I want to unlock the full power of my GTX 780 with proprietary nvidia drivers. On my last attempt at installing KDE, I went directly to installing the nvidia driver 304.24. After rebooting and seeing some text flash on screen, however, I was meant with only a black screen. I could still type, login and reboot but not much more since I couldn't see. I tried booting into the Arch Linux fallback GRUB provided for me with no prevail so I decided to just reinstall the OS. For that reason, I want to install this nvidia driver in hopes of being able to avoid another blank screen. So far, I have this:
    [root@arch /]# pacman -S nvidia
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    :: nvidia-libgl and mesa-libgl are in conflict (libgl). Remove mesa-libgl? [y/N] y
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nouveau-dri: requires mesa-libgl
    I've tried looking across the forums for similar problems and even tried to uninstall mesa-libgl and all its dependencies but it just yields this:
    [root@arch /]# pacman -Rns mesa-libgl
    checking dependencies...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: cairo: requires libgl
    :: glu: requires libgl
    :: libva: requires libgl
    :: mplayer: requires libgl
    :: nouveau-dri: requires mesa-libgl
    :: qt4: requires libgl
    :: qt5-base: requires libgl
    I feel like I might need to uninstall the nouveau driver so as to be able to uninstall mesa-libgl. If I installed the nvidia driver at that point, I fear I might see the blank screen again. Thanks for your help in advance.

    You do it wrong.
    sudo pacman -Rdd mesa-libgl && sudo pacman -S nvidia
    After it, you can decide if you want to reinstall mesa-libgl and remove nvidia-libgl or leave nvidia-libgl and do not install mesa-libgl. I do it all the time during update.

  • Can't Locate Flash Drive?

    I have a PowerBook G4 with Leopard OS and I want to access an older scandisk 256MB "Cruzer Mini." When I plug the flash drive into my USB port, it doesn't appear on my desktop. Can anyone tell me how to find it and use it?
    Thanks,

    With drive inserted in USB port and computer booted go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and launch DU. Look for the drive in the sidebar. If it is not there, you are likely out of luck.

  • Masters in new hard drive... and Aperture can't locate them!

    Hello guys,
    this is my first message here... I'm from Rome, I'm a photographer and I am - obvioulsy - a Mac enthusiast user!
    I use Aperture for a year, this is a great app for my workflow but now I have a "little big" problem.
    Today, I've bought a new external hard drive where I've moved the Aperture Library and all my photo archive (referenced files). Now Aperture opens the library from the new location, it shows all previews but can't locate any master because it looks for them in the old path.
    I'm trying to set up the new one with "Relocate Masters for Projects..." and "Manage Referenced Files..." commands but I had no success.
    Please, could you help me?
    What is the right procedure to solve this problem?
    I'm going mad...
    Thank you in advance!
    Alex

    I found today that you only really need to "re-refrence" one image...so the post above is correct. You just need to have all of the images you want to reconnect when you go to the "manage referenced files" box.
    Assuming that all of them are on the same volume, and relatively in the same location, this should work.
    1) Select all of your images...say all of the 2007 images.
    2) Right click on one that is showing the offline volume.
    3) Select "Managed referenced files..."
    4) Find the 1 file in the browser that needs refrencencing, and it should light up the "Reconnect All" button.
    5) Click "Reconnect All"
    ...it'll take a while (depending on # of images, but it should work.

  • New Hard Drive-can't locate files

    I just moved my library to my new external hard drive. I have switched my preferences to look in the new drive, but itunes gives me the little exclimation point next to my songs and says it can't locate the files. I can go through and locate them all individualy, but there has t be a better/faster way. Someone smarter than me please help!!

    If you move files around outside of iTunes, you'll get that !
    which means it can't find the file.
    So....put everything back the way it was, and follow these directions to consolidate your library onto the exHD.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364
    If I were you, BEFORE you follow thos directions, I'd give the exHD a letter far down in the alphabet like M: or W: so Windows doesn't change the letter on you when you plug other USB stuff into your PC. Use these directions - they are for an iPod but work for an exHD, also.

  • ITunes can't locate library on external hard-drive

    I have had my iTunes library in a folder on an external E hard drive for some time, and it worked fine.
    After I downloaded the latest version of iTunes - in response to a prompt from Apple - it now can't locate any of the tracks. The library is still displayed in full in the iTunes screen, but each track has an exclamation mark next to it, and if I try to play a track, iTunes tells me I have to locate it manually. If I locate a track manually, it plays, but that's obviously not ideal. Also, it won't sync my iPod, but just tells me that the named tracks can't be found.
    I looked in the `iTunes music' folder in `My Music' on the C drive, and it has a handful of tracks in it. Those tracks play in iTunes as normal.
    Going via Edit-Preferences-Advanced, the `iTunes media folder location' is set as the folder in my E-drive which contains my music library. I had understood that that was all I needed to do in order to enable iTunes to find my library, but I guess there must be another step I've missed.
    I suspect that I should be using File-Add Folder to Library, but I'm not sure what the result will be if I do this. Will it copy the files from my E drive onto my C drive (and swallow up all the memory space on my laptop)? Will it duplicate all the tracks in the iTunes display so I have two versions of each track - one with an exclamation mark and one without? Should I delete all the tracks from iTunes before adding the folder?
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Have you assigned E: to the exHD permanently? Because Windows can change USB drive letters on you, if you don't assign them.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844
    That is the most common reason for itunes suddenly unable to find files.

    What if you take this same topic of an external hard drive with music but instead of directly attached to the computer the music is on a Network Attached hard drive(NAS)? Will I be able to add music to my ipod without any problem? Step that up a notch, will the two computers on my network be able to recognize the music on the NAS? Will the two users be able to create their own playlists and update their ipods independently? Now step up that up one more notch, will I be able to do this with one PC running XP and my macbook with OS X?
    Before I run out and buy a NAS I want to be certain. I also would like to convert my DVD library in the future and put it on the network available to an AppleTV or other UpNp media player in the future, because I love having power at my finger tips.

    I can't access half of my downladed music. I get a message, "can't locate file." I dauthorized my computer and reloaded itunes, but it did not help. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
    Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
