[SOLVED] Clarify - directory ownership differs during sysmd upgrade

Hello,
I get the warning (see below) - and I am wondering if I understand it correctly that I do not need to do anything about this warning?
warning: directory ownership differs on /var/log/journal/remote/
filesystem: 0:998 package: 0:0
It is the same warning discussed in this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=193782, and since it is solved,
and the bug report here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43852 also does not give me a conclusive answer, I opened this one.
Regards
Martin

Hello,
I tried to solve this by doing:
1. Checking the systemd package
pacman -Qkk systemd
warning: systemd: /var/log/journal/remote (GID mismatch)
2. Change the "/var/log/journal/remote" to the root group and user
# chown root:root /var/log/journal/remote/
3. Checking the systemd package again
pacman -Qkk systemd
systemd: 1003 total files, 0 altered files
4. Seems correct, so I rebuild my initramfs and reboot (hoping this will keep the above chown edit)
# mkinitcpio -p linux
# reboot
Checking the systemd package again
pacman -Qkk systemd
warning: systemd: /var/log/journal/remote (GID mismatch)
So after my reboot I am back where I started - and I do not get it, what am I suppose to to with this warning, point me in the right direction please.
Regards
Martin

  • [SOLVED] Systemd 2.18 - directory ownership

Have this issue with new systemd. When I install it gives me two lines of a warning, is this safe to ignore?
warning: directory ownership differs on /var/log/journal/remote/
    filesystem: 0:999 package: 0:0
If not how would I go about figuring out what this means and how to remedy it?
Also I've upgraded my Arch system but when I boot it still says loading systemd 2.17, not 2.18, wierd, any thoughts?

There are already a few threads about this e.g. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=191243
    Rebuild your initramfs.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

We have changed the DDIC password during upgrade.after that we ran the initphase to update the password.
I think sapup is referring the old password which was entered initially during the upgrade and we dont remember the old password also.

    Dear All,
The issue has been resolved by changing the DDIC password to what it was when we have started the upgrade. The password was "welcome" when we have started with upgrade after that it has been changed to
"basis05" during upgrade.we changed it back to welcome and it started working fine.
Here it took long time to find out what was the password when we have starte upgrade.Resetting to standard ddic password also ddint help out in our case.
    Thanks for all your replies.

  • SCM5 - SCM7 Upgrade Error during LiveCache upgrade Step C4

We are in the process of upgrading our SCM5 system to SCM7 release level. During livecache upgrade step C4 to load transaction data, we are getting error CONNE_IMPORT_WRONG_COMP_TYPE. The dump says that "when importing the object 'OT_ORDERS", the component no. 5 in the dataset has a different type from the corresponding component of the target object in the program "/SAPAPO/SAPLOM_UPGR_PARALLEL". The data type is "P" in the dataset, but "C in the program".
Our source livecache version is 7.6.03.12 and target livecache version we are upgrading to is 7.7.04.29. We used BS 7 SR1 liveCache 7.7.04 DVD from service marketplace. We did not use the update DVD since the guide mentioned that customers on SCM5.1 or higher need to run livecache upgrade from update DVD.
All steps in A, B have already been completed.
More details from the ST22 dump -
Error analysis | | An exception occurred that is explained in detail below. | | The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_IMPORT_MISMATCH_ERROR', was | | not caught in | | procedure "GET_DB" "(METHOD)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING clause. | | Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the | | exception would occur, the current program is terminated. | | The reason for the exception is: | | When importing the object "OT_ORDERS", the component no. 5 in the | | dataset has a different type from the corresponding component | | of the target object in the program "/SAPAPO/SAPLOM_UPGR_PARALLEL". | | | | The data type is "P" in the dataset, but "C" in the program. Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

This is exactly the same with OSS 305147 2010. It will be answered in BC-DB-LCA area.

  • SOLUTION to iPhoto 6 crashing without warning during library upgrade

    THE PROBLEM
The problem which I and some others in this forum were facing was that iPhoto 6 would CRASH WITHOUT WARNING halfway through the process of updating our previous iPhoto 5 library. This is a different problem from the permissions issues which some other users have faced, which iPhoto 6 does warn you about.
    THE EXPLANATION
After trial and error, I concluded that there was a corrupted photo in my library that iPhoto was choking on during the upgrading process. Unfortunately, there was no easy way to identify which of my 3000+ photos this was. Hence, the solution was to laboriously test my library year-by-year, to isolate the year in which the problematic photo was hiding. This meant creating individual copies of my iPhoto library, one for each year, and then test-upgrading each individual copy. Each individual year upgraded fine, except for 2004. Thus, I could deduce that the problematic photo was in 2004. I then created a new copy of my iPhoto 5 library, containing all photos except for those in 2004. It upgraded fine. I then manually dragged my photos from 2004 back into iPhoto. Thus, all my comments/ratings/keywords for other years were intact, and I only had to re-do 2004.
    THE STEPS
In order to use this solution, you must have a backup of your iPhoto 5 library. It also helps if you can install a fresh copy of Mac OS X 10.4 and iPhoto 6 (SIX) on another partition. The steps are:
    1. Reinstall/'downgrade' to iPhoto 5 (this requires deleting the iPhoto 6 application and also all iPhoto receipts in the /Library/Receipts folder, before reinstalling from iLife '05)
    2. Create multiple copies of your iPhoto 5 library backup (the entire iPhoto Library folder from your iPhoto 5), and title the backup copies 'Early Photos', '2003', '2004', '2005' and '2006'.
    3. By holding down Option while launching iPhoto 5, open each copy of your library, and delete photos from each copy so that only one year of photos remains in each copy, i.e. you should have one library containing only 'Early Photos' (pre-2003), one containing only 2003 photos, etc.
    4. Test-upgraded each individual 'annual' library on another installation of iPhoto 6. Those that can be upgraded are fine. The one that crashes obviously contains the corrupted photo.
    5. Go back and create a fresh copy of your iPhoto 5 library, and open it in iPhoto 5. Delete only the photos from the problematic year, leaving all the rest behind. Before deleting the photos, drag them into a folder on the desktop, so that you can re-import them later.
    6. Now re-install iPhoto 6 (the end is near, trust me) and open the fresh copy of your iPhoto 5 library. Upgrade it. You will now have a upgraded library, minus all the photos from the excluded year.
    7. You should now be able to re-import photos from the excluded year, by dragging them into iPhoto 6. However, this may mean reintroducing the corrupted photo into your library. I really can't help you beyond this - re-import at your own risk, and always keep backups.
    8. Enjoy (after much frustration).
    ALTERNATIVES
It isn't necessary to test your library year-by-year. For example, if you only have photos from one year, then you'd have to find some other way to break your library into logical chunks, and test each chunk using the procedure above. Again, the chunk that crashes during upgrading contains the corrupted photo. It's really up to you how finely you want to sub-divide and test your iPhoto 5 library, to isolate the corrupted photo.
(P.S. Really, this should be addressed by Apple. It is murder and really tedious to do this, and I suspect it would be difficult for anyone not familiar with Mac OS X, and also difficult if you don't have multiple partitions/drives to install separate copies of iPhoto 5 and iPhoto 6.

Thanks for your help. It should work with some iPhoto libraries, but unfortunately not with mine.
iPhoto was crashing, so I found the guilty album, deleted it, retried: but it crashes on another album, etc. I think I have more than one corrupted picture/album, so the only solution to make iPhoto complete the update was to remove 90% of my pictures... not a real solution

My iPhone 4 siezed/froze during an upgrade.  How can I back up and then reset?

I'm fairly certain this is expected behavior if you have a CDMA carrier like Verizon or Sprint. The phone cannot handle being on a call and using data to receive messages or email.
Someone else may be able to further clarify.

  • File transfer during Leopard upgrade

I'm considering upgrading from OS X 10.4.11 to Leopard on my iMac. Will all my files, pics, movie projects, and folders remain intact and in place during the upgrade? How does it work?

Depends upon what install option you use. I would consider doing the following things:
*1. Repair the hard drive and permissions*:
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
*2. Clone your existing system to an external hard drive*:
    a. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    b. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    c. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    e. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    f. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external drive to which you will clone.
Source means the drive you are cloning - your startup volume.
*3. Install Leopard using the Archive and Install option*:
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    A. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    B. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    C. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    D. You can now download any unpdates using Software Update.

  • Connection reset during firmware upgrade

I have a Linksys WRT54GS (v5) router. I noticed that my firmware was outdated and tried to upgrade it tonight. During the upgrade progress, the browser reset the connection and now  cannot access my router configuration pages.
I did a hard reset. Then I did the 30-30-30 reset.
The reset worked but no matter what I do, I cannot navigate to any readable page within the router. I get the log in box and successfully log into the router. However, the configuration page(s) are all jumbled and devoid of useful information. It almost looks like a web page that needs flash to be enabled. Lots of colors and boxes but no text or links to other configuration pages
I know it's an old router but it has served me well. I would love to reinstall the old firmware (or new!) and copy my saved configuration file back to the router.
    Is this a hopeless situation?
Is there a way to access the configuration via a command line interface?
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!

Actually, thanks for your answer but I posted too soon. I just found a solution to my problem.
Rather than try to rewrite the original persons instructions, I will copy and paste them below.
I found this fix on the following site:
    http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-87540-can-t-view-linksys-router-web-page-wrt54g
Scroll down to the Comments section and find the one by "elmo21". The find the reply by "Lynn". I hope this helps someone.
It worked like a charm for me:

    Hey guys,
I was faced with similar problem, that the page 192.168.1.1 can't seems to load properly. After surfing the net in search for solution, i finally got the answer! Now i can access the page without problem.
The problem is likely due to router firmware issue. This is what you can do.
    1) Go to http://www.linksysbycisco.com/APAC/en/support to search for your router model, and download the latest firmware
    2) Go to http://www.idealinternet.co.uk/restore-linksys-firmware.tpl and download the linksys-tftp.exe available on that page
    3) Run the linksys-tftp.exe program. Key in the details as below:
    Server : 192.168.1.1
    Password : admin
File : <look for the firmware file that you had download earlier>
    4) Click Upgrade
    5) You should be able to see the progress bar that shows upgrading in process and eventually, it will show a message that firmware had been upgraded
    6) After that, try going to the page 192.168.1.1 . Leave the username blank and key password as admin
    7) The page should load nicely after the firmware had been upgraded successfully!!
Hope the above works for you guys!!

  • Running R/3 4.7 on a Windows Server 2008 System during an upgrade

    Dear all,
I am plannung an upgrade project from R/3 4.7x200 to ERP6.0. The system is running on MaxDB. It's a single stack ABAP System.
Currently the system is running on a 32 bit Windows Server 2003. During the project we want to go to a new x86 64bit hardware with OS Windows Server 2008.
In order to use the speed of the new hardware also during the upgrade I want to move the systems to the new HW before starting the upgrade.
The problem is that runnning R/3 4.7 on Windows Server 2008 is not supported by SAP. On the other hand running the target release ERP6.0 on Windows Server 2008 is officially supported by SAP. This information comes from the PAM.
From the past I know that SAP allowed to run unsupported DB, OS and Release combinations during an upgrade project but I didn't find any information which fits to my situation.
Does anyone have experience with this constellation? Is there an official statement concerning this request?
    Thanks for you support!
    Regards
    Bernd

    > So I opened the OSS Message (0000594749) to the component you mentioned but the support answered that this would be a consultant task to support me in this area (?!?)....
I know one person who works for/in this component who did this several times to me too.
    > They asked me to open a thread here in SDN.
    That person did that too.
    > I send the message back to SAP and stated that I disagree with the statement that the confirmation of platform support is consulting...but until now I have no feedback.
Just insist on a statement. If you still get the message back, contact the CIC (support dot emea at sap dot com) since you seem to be located in the UK according to your business card) and ask them to give you a different message processor.
    > So I hoped someone already has some official statement from SAP.
Those special support statements are valid for a specific installation only so even if someone would have it for their installation it may not be valid for yours.
    > We would be running Production with release 4.7 on Windows 2008 for 3 weeks or so...and I will need official support for that, just for the case something goes wrong...
I don't think this should be a problem. Technically the kernel supports it (according to the note) and also the database.

    Hi Suhas,
Have checked the hostname and it is correct.
I am getting the below output When i run r3trans -x
    This is r3trans version 6.14 (release 700 - 04.03.08 - 16:43:00).
    r3trans finished (0000).
I could see the below error message in dev_W21
    ExecuteAndFlush return code: 0x80040e14 Stmt: [if user_name() != 'sid_shd' setuser 'sid_shd']
