[SOLVED] dwm - switch current window from left - right

I'm using dwm and I'm trying to figure out if there's a MODKEY that I can use/assign to move the current window to the left or to the right (up/down) of a second window opened. For instance:
|           |         |          |         |         |
|   W1   |   W2  |   --> |  W2  |   W1  |
|           |         |          |         |         |
Thanks!

Great, I applied the push patch and worked well when moving clients up/down. movestack did the trick for horizontal clients. Thanks!

  • Multi Monitor - Windows Key + Left/Right not working?

    Hi everyone,
Just checking whether it's just me or other people having this issue (I can't find a similar thread for the Windows 10 Technical Preview).
Windows Key + Left/Right does not seem to snap to another monitor. On my setup it continually cycles on the monitor it's already on (Left/Mid/Right), but does not jump across to the next monitor when it hits the end.
Is this an intended change in the Technical Preview? Is anyone else having the same behaviour? If not, any suggestions on troubleshooting it?
    Thanks!

Apparently this is an intended part of the new virtual desktop system. It also affects the Shift-Win-Up maximizing the window, and Shift-Win-Down minimizing it... they now function with a double-tap of the Up or Down. But unfortunately Shift-Win-Left
or Right will just move around on whichever single screen the application is now on, regardless of how many monitors you actually have.
Just to clarify, do you mean the feature to snap/cycle to other monitors was intentionally removed? Or due to other changes to snap it's had this adverse affect?
The ability to Windows Key + move to other monitors is highly useful, and often much quicker than dragging/dropping to move to another monitor. I hope this is just an oversight and will be reverted!
Thanks to others for your feedback and info too, glad to know I'm not the only one encountering this issue.

  • How to switch to windows from Mac?

I purchased my first Mac today, the MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion. It is primarily for school, and need to be able to switch to Windows for certain classes. How do I go about purchasing/Downloading the right program?
    Thank you!

Ha. I thought you wanted to switch computers from using a Mac to using Windows.
Well you have two choices and you can use both:
Easy and more secure, but not as powerful : Virtual Machine Software - runs Windows in OS X itself.
Less easy and secure, but full hardware capability: Apple's BootCamp - direct boot into Windows itself.
BootCamp for 3D games / 3D or high CPU needs - Virtual Machine software for everything else - web to email, word processing, malware control etc.
Virtual machine software uses "Snapshots" so it's a cinch to eliminate malware off your virtual machine, just transfer any latest files to a USB thumb drive and click a button, a few seconds you just skipped back to a clean verison.
Windows 7 can be downloaded from Microsoft's web site.
Here is the pro's and con's of each and your choices + links.

  • Switch audio tracks from left to right

Is it possible to take the left audio track and put in on the right track?
I have a clip that only has audio on the left track. I cannot recapture. So, I want to know if I duplicate the audio and then on the duplicate switch the left and right. I know that this is less than the ideal solution, but quality is not the most important thing at this point. Thanks before hand.

To the OP ... Individual mono tracks can be panned full right or full left - which controls which stereo speaker reproduces the material. If your audio is playing only out of the left speaker (-1), and you want it to play out of both, panning to center (0) will accomplish what you want.
Duplicating a mono track and panning one track full left and the other full right will do the same thing as one track panned center as both speakers are playing the exact same material. Creating two tracks of the same material panned left and right does not create stereo as there is no stereo separation.
Or did I misunderstand your question?

  • [solved] [gnome] Switching between windows: now grouped per program?

I have a question how I can change the behavior in Gnome regarding open windows for programs & switching between those windows.
OpenBox & LXDE - every instance of a program has its own icon.
If I have Chromium running in two windows, and LXTerminal in an other window I have 3 icons.
With ALT + TAB I can switch between all windows.
Gnome: every program has its own icon, no matter how many instances / windows are open
If I have Chromium running in two windows, and LXTerminal in an other window I have 2 icons: one for Chromium and one for LXTerminal.
With ALT + TAB I can switch only between the two programs.
The icon for Chromium has a downwards-arrow, and if you wait some time, you can choose between the two Chromium screens.
How can I configure Gnome to have icons for every open window instance, and not grouped per program?
I prefer to use ALT + TAB to switch between all open windows (an not only between the open programs).

    Thanks for your fast response!
I haven't worked with Gnome Extensions before (I used to have Gnome 2 on my Debian machine), so I had to find my way regarding how to install:
After registration at https://extensions.gnome.org/ I logged in & browsed to the extension that you recommend and just used the switch to switch it on.
    It works great! Thanks!

  • Open in new tab on right click fails to open in the current window when used in a dependent window called with window.open command from original window this worked fine until ver 4.0

i have been using this page in all versions of firefox until ver 4.0 and it has worked fine
    https://npwas.com/dummy/charts/charts.html
when this page is loaded enter a stock symbol in the text field "AAPL"
then click one of the lower links --"Yahoo Headlines"-- and another window is opened with this code
    - function yahoolink(sqlstring, winnum) {
    - var myurl = "http://finance.yahoo.com/";
    - var mysymbol = document.SymbolForm.symbol.value;
    - var mysrc = myurl + sqlstring + mysymbol;

    window.open(mysrc,mywindow,'resizable=yes,titlebar1=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1');
all this works but when i right click on a message or news item and select "OPEN IN NEW TAB" - it fails to open the tab in this current window it opens it in the parent window --
the way i have always used this is to able to select news and right click all news items to read as new tabs and have all news items or messages to be grouped in the child window

    Am I missing something?

I later found out that none of the hooks were working, so I copied the original config and modified it again from beginning but with more care this time.
I probably messed something up the first time I was editing the config. Now everything works as expected.

  • [SOLVED] Unable to Boot Windows 7 from GRUB

I recently reinstalled Arch onto my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad t520) and have been having problems with Grub. For the last week I've been having trouble getting it to run grub at boot at all, only being able to run windows 7 by flagging it as the bootable drive. The other day I finally got it to boot into grub, and from grub I can boot into Arch. However, I can not boot into windows 7 through grub. When I attempt to, it throws an error:
    Invalid EFI file path
I'm somewhat new to arch, and especially new to efi bootloading and such. Right now the only way I can get into windows is either booting from the arch install disk > boot other os and specifying partition 2 (where I have windows installed) or by pressing f12 at boot. When I do this (not sure what the term is, if anyone knows please tell me), it brings up a menu asking where I want to boot with "arch_efi" "cd drive" "Hard drive" etc. I choose hard drive and it will then boot to windows by default. Booting normally takes me to grub where I can boot into arch but not windows. If there's any more info you need please let me know and I'll try to provide it. Thanks in advance.
Also, here is my current partition setup
    /dev/sda1 /boot/efi
    /dev/sda2 Windows7
    /dev/sda3 Extended partition containing sda 5,6, & 7
    /dev/sda4 swap
    /dev/sda5 /boot
    /dev/sda6 /
    /dev/sda7 /home
    UPDATE
Terminator seems to be right (still on a roll!), so I wiped the partition I had grub on, removed grub, and installed syslinux. Now I have another problem that I'm hoping can be solved in the same thread to avoid another. It boots to syslinux no problem, and I can boot to windows from there all good, but when I select arch I get:
Root device mounted successfully but /sbin/init does not exist
I haven't been able to look for solutions too much on my own, but any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Terminator wrote:If I understand it correctly, what you are trying is impossible: you are trying to boot windows using UEFI on a disk with MBR partitioning. Windows 7 only supports UEFI on discs with GPT partitioning but AFAIK, extended partitions only exist in MBR partitioning.
i also saw this in the arch wiki, but i have a brand new lenovo ideapad y570 running windows 7 64-bit that i'm in the process of setting up for someone, and it has what i think is an efi system partition but the disk uses mbr partitioning.  does anyone know why this might be, or is there a way i can verify that the system is actually being booted via bios-mbr?

  • Why does my Menu Bar is scrolling from left to right when I call it and not stabilizing?

I have an an XP Windows system and I use Firefox as my default Browser, I suddenly found that my browaer is hit by something that makes the Menu Bar when I try to use it scrolling all menus from left to right so quickly that I can't point to any choice and keep doing this till I end it by mouse, also the information in the Autocomplete are not accessible as they don't show when trying to get them either by mouse or by the down key. I don.t know what to do putting in consideration that I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it and this did not solve the problem.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • Is it possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers?

    Hello forum,
I am using Captivate version 6.1.0.319 on a Windows 7 desktop PC and would like to know if it is possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers. I am working on a project that uses the "Require Right to Left composer" within the Global Preferences: General settings. The captions has been switched from left to right but the quiz answer radio buttons did not. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
I'm not aware of such a possibility. A workaround could be to create your own MCQ slides, using standard objects and widgets like the radiobuttons widget (there is an enhanced version created by Jim Leichliter) and advanced actions. These articles were written for previous versions, but can give you an idea about the work involved:

  • [SOLVED]dwm-sprinkles: can't right click

Just installed dwm-sprinkles (compiled from source grabbed using svn because there's nothing in AUR or ABS for it), and I can no longer right click in firefox or use the drop-down menus.  Drop downs on websites work fine, but I can't use anything in the firefox toolbar.  ie, File, Edit, address bar history, ABP menu, etc.  These things all work fine in gftp and goggles, which are the only other gui apps that I really use.
It worked fine in vanilla dwm, which I built from the package in AUR.  Switched to dwm sprinkles because patching was a pain in the ass and sprinkles already has pretty much everything I need.  I'm guessing there is something in config.h that is causing this but I haven't changed anything except colors and terminal command.
Sorry if this has been posted/solved before, but there's just not much in-depth documentation on DWM out there (which is why I switched to a pre-patched version of it in the first place).

    Dimension 550/E50
    XP Media Center 2005
All current Windows Updates (SP3 & all MCE updates)
    5. surround sound was working fine until some software changes took place (however, I dont know which was directly related)

    1. It fixes issue with USB keyboard/mouse hang until reboot while installing.
    2. It fixes yellow bang in USB controller in Device Manager on a system with USB keyboard/mouse while installing.
    3. It fixes a bug where a 3rd party SMBus driver was being overwritten.

    6. It fixes untranslated language strings.
    B) Some Microsoft AutoUpdates
didn't discover the loss of front speakers until several updates had run. Restored back to December 08 without any improvements.
After the chipset update, I de-installed all SB and Sigmatel drivers
Then Re-installed the SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio driver
and then re-ran the SB Installation CD
    still, no front r/l sound
then, i ran the Creative AutoUpdate application and installed recommended updates.
still no sound front l/r --
i switched the rear l/r cable with front, so i know the speakers are fine.
    what else can i do
how can i tell if the sound board is faulty

I used the Creative Diagnostic application's Speaker Test and after hitting Restore Defaults, the front right speaker is not as quiet, though still much quieter and muffled. Still no sound from the subwoofer.
