[SOLVED] Guake won't open (GNOME 3.4 update?)

[EDIT]: This was solved by reinstalling (remove even config files and reinstall of GNOME 3.4)
Hello
Today (as always) i turned my PC on and i had a problem... well, several of them. In this one, i want to ask how to solve this:
I tried to open Guake, but nothing happened. Then, i tried to open it from a Terminal and this is the output:
** (process:1632): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GMountMountFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
** (process:1632): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GDriveStartFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
** (process:1632): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'GSocketMsgFlags' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
Segmentation fault
The Segmentation fault occurs when i hit F12 (the default key to use Guake)
I have had a problem too with Chromium, it appears to say the same Segmentation fault when i type in the address bar (see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1096044 for more info).
Thanks for your help.

Is it a problem with some GNOME libraries? How can i downgrade GNOME to its 3.2 version? (or its "3.4.0" version?)
This is the current output when i execute it:

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

  • IPhoto 9.4.3 suddenly won't open unless it's updated

My iPhoto version shows in the Application folder as 9.4.3. I try to open it and get rerouted to the App Store to update it. When I try to update it I get a dialogue box that reads:
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
The App Store shows an update is ready, but won't let me update. I tried to repurchase and the App Store won't resell it to me, only gives me the option of an update because I already have it installed. Then it won't update because it says I haven't yet bought it.
So far as I know, no other user bought it nor was it refunded or cancelled. It always opened until suddenly it didn't anymore.
What might have happened to the original iPhoto 9.4.3, and how would I get out of this loop where iPhoto won't open unless it's updated, the App Store has an update ready to install and won't let me have it or repurchase it?
I'd be grateful for any ideas that will stop this confusing cycle.
    thanks.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with AppleScript Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain. Note:  you may have to Control (right) - click on the app after uncompressing and select Open due to the Sandboxing feature of OS X.  If you have problems with the app create your own with AppleScript Editor.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • [SOLVED] Firefox won't open after restart..Until I updated everything

When I start my computer or reboot Firefox won't open unless I keep clicking the icon. I have it pinned to the task bar and it's set as default. when I click the icon it glows orange but then fades back to clear. sometimes as many as 15 - 20 times before it starts. I clean the temporary files every day with CCleaner. I'm not that computer smart but I haven't changed any settings and it was working perfectly until a few days ago. Once it opens I have o problems opening it and closing it
    UPDATE:
I disabled the Facebook video call plug in updated all my Firefox stuff and it opened first try

Thank you Alice It took me two years to get Firefox looking exactly how I wanted it. I'm not very good with computers. I thought I would have to start over. The strange thing is there was no indication of a problem. It just wouldn't open. Skype kept crashing my computer so I followed their instructions on removing everything in the registry. I remembered something about Facebook video chat being through Skype so it just made sense to disable it. I didn't even know I had it until I updated the rest of the stuff. I don't know if that was it but Firefox is working and that's what matters.

  • Itunes won't open after downloading last update. Error message says "not supported by this type of Mac"

Downloaded latest iTunes update. Now iTunes won't open, and the error message says "You can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac." I have been using this MAc since 2008. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • ITunes won't open after latest OSX update

AFter latest OSX update iTunes won't open.  Reinstalled iTunes.  Reinstalled OSX update.  When I click on icon in applications or in finder nothing happens.

This is what worked for me and others--original post found on this thread: Yosemite slow opening and cannot open itunes
This solved my question by Linc Davis.......
According to multiple reports on this site, Apple Support has given the following instructions to others who had a similar problem. I can't confirm that this procedure works or that it's necessary, but it won't leave you any worse off than you are now.
    First, back up all data.
Select the iTunes icon in the Applications folder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner to unlock the settings.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, change the Privilege setting for each Name in the list to Read & Write. Close the window. If the settings aren't visible, click the disclosure triangle on the left so that it points down.
You should now be able to drag the iTunes application to the Trash and empty. Your iTunes data won't be affected.
Click the iTunes link at the top of this page, download the installer package and run it.
If iTunes still doesn't launch, or if you can't complete the procedure, reinstall the OS.

  • Mail, App Store & Terminal won't open after OSX Mavericks Update

    Hey,
Updated to OSX Mavericks yesterday - today Mail started crashing, found a solution but needed to use Terminal - which won't open. I thought OK, I'll reinstall OSX, but can't open the App Store either...
Does anyone know a solution to this one, or have a link to a direct (non App Store) download of OSX Mavericks.
I've tried Safe Boot and didn't help.
    Thanks,
    Eliot

I went to the Apple Store today and the genius recommended a new install of Mavericks, just do a time machine back up then hold down alt and go to the recovery drive then click reinstall or new install of Mavericks.
Note: This will take a long time it took 3 hours for my machine. When it prompts you to install the back up from time machine I would recommend unchecking the box that asks if you'd like to install with your settings. I have a hunch that what caused this problem in the first place was a corrupted file in the settings. Hope this helps..

  • ITunes won't open after trying to update

I updated my iPhone 5C to IOS8  yesterday, and when I plugged it into my computer it said I needed to update my iTunes. When I tried to update it, it wouldn't work and told me to do it manually. It then came up with the screen that searches for updates, and I pressed cancel so that I could press the tools button. When I pressed tools, I could not click on the top option that I was supposed to select. I closed the tab and now iTunes won't open.

    Hello snowwhitesapple,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

We downloaded the new safari update on my daughter's iMac and one it won't open without the new os.   How do we go back to the previous safari?   Thanks!

  • ITunes 11.1.1 won't open even after OS update.  Is there something ELSE I'm missing?

After I updated my iTunes to 11.1.1, it wouldn't open.  I found something on these forums that had a link to an OS update to fix the problem.  Downloading and installing the OS update took nearly 24 hours, and iTunes still won't open.  Is there something else I'm missing?

first of all you want to back up all music files before you uninstall itunes. if mavericks wont let you uninstall itunes then right click on itunes in your applications folder, then get info, then go to the bottom and change all permissions to read and write. then close and try to uninstall and reinstall. if that doesnt work then this does :
open apps, go to utilities, open terminal and cut and paste or type in these 3 commands, hitting return after each one.
    (first type) killall iTunes
    (then hit return)
    (then type) killall "iTunes Helper"
    (then hit return)
(then type) sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    (and hit return)
after the last one you will be warned and asked to enter your password. do it.
once completed you will see on your itunes icon with a ? shadow inside it.
drag it off the dock and it goes poof.
    then download itunes from apple.
if they wont let you download 11.1.5 itunes then use 10.7 Download it from Apple here.
and then install and upgrade to 11.1.5 from there. this is the method i used when my itunes just bounced after installing mavericks. it takes only minutes and your itunes will be as right as rain. enjoy.

  • Itunes won't open after Installing 9 update

I installed the Itunes 9 upgrade. It downloaded fine. Then when it was done, I clicked on Itunes on my dock to open it but it just bounced like it was going to open but then stops and nothing opens. Is this happening for anyone else? Any suggestions on what to do...

The same thing happened to me where the icon "bounces," but iTunes won't open.
So apparently I don't have the right version of OSX for the program. OK. So what to do I to get back my old iTunes?
I'm a little ****** about this because I feel like a warning should have popped up somewhere during the installation process telling me my system wouldn't accommodate the new iTunes.
Secondly, I'm ****** off at myself because all of this trouble was caused by trying to download an episode of freakin' "Top Chef." Why on earth would the show require the newest version of iTunes?

  • ITunes won't open after 7.6 update

I don't remember when software update ran, but since then I can't open iTunes on my Mac (Powerbook G4, OS 10.4.11). It bounces once in the dock and that's it. Same thing if I run it from the apps folder. I've tried a few things already:
    1) Run diskwarrior. Found some problems, said it fixed it.
    2) Tried opening iTunes from a different account. Same thing.
    3) Deleted (dragged to trash) the iTunes app and shortcut. I know there's more files out there, but not sure what they might be.
    4) Repaired permissions.
So that's where I am. iTunes still won't open and my job ***** without being able to drown out the rest of the world with headphones! Any help will be appreciated.

I don't pay any attention to updates, but last week my entire itunes library vaporized. I used my back-up disks to get my stuff back, but all the playlists are empty and itunes is crashing constantly. Just trying to click on another song or playlist causes it to "spin" and I end up force quitting. Oddly enough if I use my remote control it works better than from the desktop.
I'm really disappointed with this whole thing, as I had never had problems with my macs like this. And someone mentioned antivirus software. Should I have that on my macs???
