[Solved] hp printer problem

Hi, I searched and found this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132136 I followed it but the hplip install failed that they said to get from AUR, the only one there was out of date. I wasn't able to get it to build it failed with the following message. Also I am directly connected via usb.
prnt/hpps/hppsfilter.c: In function ‘require_bod’:
prnt/hpps/hppsfilter.c:119:5: error: unknown type name ‘ppd_attr_t’

make: *** [hppsfilter.o] Error 1

Aborting...
This is a fresh install OpenBox I installed all the required prereqs from pacman, this would have been the last piece, and wasn't in pacman but the forum post said to get it from AUR, and it worked for the poster, so I followed it. When I run the 'ptal-init setup' it gets to the part where it looks for my usb hp7680 printer and fails thus:
Probing "/dev/usb/lp1"...
*** Found "Officejet Pro L7600" but failed to communicate with it!
*** Elapsed time for this attempt was 6 second(s).
*** Check syslog file for ptal-mlcd error messages.
*** See hpoj documentation for troubleshooting information.
I can boot over to another OS print no problem, this is the first time I have attempted to get printing up on Arch. But Debian, Ubuntu,Sabayon, fedora all print to this machine.
Any insight or direction would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

OK I installed the hplip from the repo and still exact same result, when I run the ptal-init setup it fails as follows:

  • Any Mac expert who can solve my Printing problem? PLEASE HELP!!!!

So I am asking this again... I have a Samsung 4200 SCX Series printer. It was able to print everything properly till the 14th of April when I installed the latest Security update and the thing stopped working after that (When I give a print command, it just Pauses.... Then when I resume it again, it doesn't respond, just stays there) ... I also noticed that the name of my Mac changed to XXX (3) from XXX (2) after that update, so I am thinking it's the culprit here.. I dunno if it's related, but I just thought I put it forward.
I also went to Printer and Fax settings in my System Preferences and reseted my Printer and changed the LOCATION name to the new name but no solution... I tried even installing the drivers manually, but the thing just PAUSES!!!!
And before doubting my printer, I also have Windows installed via bootcamp and the printer works fine with it, it's only the Mac creating an issue.
I got some response of people asking for the log file about it, so I am posting the last 10-20 line...

And what exactly does this deleting System pref files does??? What does setting up network again imply... You mean just adding the password and selecting the net name of my wifi don't you?? Cause I would hate to reset all those MAC address and other stuff (I really don't have much knowledge about those so wouldn't like to tamper with those).
    Anyways, thanks.

  • NOT SOLVED - Border printing problem

Disregard the thread that claims this is fixed -- it is NOT.
Same problem with a brand spanking new Office Jet 6500. This is NOT a problem with Word. This is NOT an application problem. This is an HP problem because it is their driver that tells the application the size of the paper and the margins. The application sends all the data to the printer and the PRINTER is not rasterizing it correctly. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH MY OLD LEXMARK OR WITH A NEW CANON.
My daughter had points taken off for an "incomplete sentence" when in fact her sentence was perfectly fine. I had to explain to the teacher that our HP printer has a bug and that we will try to not let this happen again.
HP PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM SO OTHER CHILDREN DON'T GET PENALIZED IN SCHOOL FOR Y-O-U-R MISTAKES!!!!!!!!!
Don't pawn this off on the application because it is YOUR application.
My wife prints accounting reports for fund raisers and children's account are being left off. This is UNACCEPTABLE because this is a LEGAL hardcopy of an accounting record and your printers are the ONLY ONES WITH THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!
If you can't tell, I'm a bit ticked off once I found out that this can affect my child's grade in school.

    Bump this message.
Clipped output on various printer (e.g., Officejet 6500) is a major flaw with HP drivers.
It baffles the mind to think that HP won't fix this problem. I have twice been told that I would be contacted by a supervisor within 48hr or 24hr and both times never received any contact.
Workarounds are NOT solutions because it requires the average person to spend countless hours looking for a solution or printing and re-printing documents. It looks like the workaround is simply a way to waste ink so you can buy more from HP.
FWIW, I am a software developer and actually write code to generate precision prints/plots and recent HP products routinely clip the bottom of the page.

  • Printer problem

I have a MAC G3 I am running Mac OS 10.2.8 I am also running Mac OS 9.2.2
I had to buy a new printer. I replaced my Epson Stylus 740 with a
Epson Stylus C88+. The problem is the printer works with everything I want to print except when I try to print a Quark document. I get an alert that says
    "Cannot open the printer. [64]"
The Quark 4.0 app only works on the OS9.2.2
Can a Quark document be saved to a PDF? That would solve the print problem I think.

Get the utility PrintToPDF http://www.jwwalker.com/pages/pdf.html Works in OS 9 like the PDF print option in OS X.

  • Epson 5800, 6200 printer problems

I have an iMac 24". After downloading Adobe reader 8, I can no longer print out a PDF-file. Some pictures print but not the text.
Some days later there are major printing problems. Both printers ( PS3 ) dosen't print at all. The printers are stopped. When I press the continue button, printing process starts but get stopped again. I have reset the Printers system, checked for the latest printdrivers 1.0, checked USB connections in the systeminformation. How do I choose generic PS3 printer? Can that help or what's the problem?

  • Canon printer problem solved

I am still frustrated, that Canon has not yet solved the driver problems with my printer (IRC 4580)
I was browsing Sunday evening, and via Google I ended on Canon Australia's website:
    http://www.canon.com.au/drivers/
And suddenly I found a full list of drivers for OSX 10.6 including my printer. I have installed, it and it works for all post copy handling systems on the printer (booklet, stables, punching etc.).
Perhaps Canon can find a way to communicate this for the rest of the world.
    Best regards
    Lars Kristensen
    Denmark

    Hello Lars,
i agree with you that the v2.00 of the UFR2 driver works. I have been recommending it for a while now in this forum.
However, during my testing I found that it did not always work perfectly on 10.6 and it did not support all the models of Canon iR. So while it is currently working to your iRC4580, it may not be your final solution because it was not designed to work with 10.6 and I just wanted to make others who read your post aware of this.
Also, because the driver does not officially support 10.6, I was suggesting this as an explanation why Canon
Europe had not posted the same.
One final note. For the sake of other readers If the iRC4580 had an imagePASS-H1 print controller attached, rather than using the internal Canon board, then the UFR2 driver cannot be used.
Hope this clears things up. Like I said, I wasn't disagreeing with you. i was just trying to answer some of the items you raised.

  • Solved Freehand 10 Printing Problem

Apparently all that was needed was to reselect the printer in the Mac System Print & Fax Preferences. Freehand now prints as well as it ever did.
I deleted the old printer and found and reinstalled the Epson 88 and now all is well with Freehand. I locked the Print & Fax window!
Although the Epson was selected it was apparently not identified as the active printer. Rebooting the printer selection process ended the troubles. Very simple after trying every other imaginable solution.
Hopefully this may help others using Leopard 10.5.8 who are experiencing printer problems.

Effectively, downgrading to cups-1.5.3-6 solves the problem.
I followed the instructions at Downgrading Packages for downgrading, downloaded cups-1.5.3-6 from the Arch Rollback Machine, installed it with "sudo #pacman -U cups-1.5.3-6-i686.pkg.tar.xz" and restarted the Cups service (#sudo rc.d restart cupsd).
The whole process took about 10 minutes including print testing. No rebooting was necessary.
For me, this is amazing considering that this is my fourth day with Arch.
    Thank you very much!

  • Color shift printing problem from LR solved!!

Check this discussion for workaround to the color shift printing problem in LR. It's for the 3800, but I assume it also applies to other Epson printers, and quite possibly to other printer vendors.

Yes it applies to Canon as well.

  • Booklet printing problems with Reader XI (version 11.0.06)

I created an 80 page 5.5" x 8.5" booklet using Word 2011 running under OSX 10.9.2 on a new 27" iMac.  I then "printed" it to a PDF file.  I then opened the PDF file in Reader XI and attempted to print it out using the "booklet" option as described at
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/print-booklets-acrobat-reader.html#main1_Reader_and_Acro bat_X .
I planned to manually duplex the booklet booklet since my HP Color Laserjet CP1518ni printer does not have automatic duplexing.  The first sign that something was wrong came when I selected "Back side only" from the Booklet Subset pop-up menu.  The numbers in the Sheets from boxes showed "Sheets from 1 to 10" when I obviously needed 20 sheets to print the booklet.  Repeated attempts to manually change it to "Sheets from 1 to 20" failed.  Each time I changed "10" to "20", it would flip back to "10" when I clicked the "Print" button.
I set the Booklet Subset to print only the even pages and checked the "Reverse" box as I have done to successfuly print thousands of manually duplexed pages before.
The printer only printed ten sheets.  The first sheet (what should be the booklet's centerfold) had page 40 on the left side as it should, but 42 on the right (it should have been 41).  The last of the ten sheets printed had page 4 on the left side (instead of the expected  2) and 78 on the right side (instead of the expected  79).  Even though these were obviously messed up, I went on to print the front side of these sheets, selecting "normal".  It printed Page 1 on the right side as expected, but printed page 79 (instead of the correct page 80) on the left.
Folding the ten sheets into a booklet revealed the really bizarre nature of the printing snafu. Page 1 was, as expected, on the front.  Turning the first page open revealed pages 4 and 5.  Turning the second page revealed Pabes 8 (left) and 9 (right).  This pattern continued, printing two pages, then skipping two pages, right into the centerfold pages 40 (left) and 42 (right).  The first page turn after the centerfold revealed pages 43 (left) and 46 (right).  The next revealed 47 (left) and 50 (right).
I am at a complete loss of how to determine where the printing process went afoul.  Printing the PDF file normally (one page per sheet one-sided) resulted in all pages being printed normally.
The really frustrating part of this entire experience is that I could find no place to report this "bug" to Adobe.  If anyone can help me solve this printing dilemma, or put me in touch with someone at Adobe who could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
The booklet is due at the printer's tomorrow and the inability to print a proof is a real pain.  Hope the printer can print this file as a booklet.  I would be happy to send this file (125 Mb) to anyone who might help.

I arrived here looking for a solution!  And while reading your post the penny dropped that I didn't have a serious problem.  I have a booklet of 112 pages and all I needed to do was re-order the pages as printed so that 1 is followed by a sheet with 2 on the under-face but same side and so on.  The pages had printed back to front and needed flipping.  But then I have a duplex printer and maybe that makes a difference.  Is it to do with your manual duplexing and the order that the second pass is presented to the printer.  As my duplex sheets effectively needed flipping over each one I'm wondering if you can solve your problem with a little experimentation and re-ordering before your second pass.

  • My "fix" to print problems in LR (using MS XP)

Having had the same problems printing from LR as many others are complaining about, I thought that I might give my 2 cents to what I did to solve (?) the problem. I have to run with current setting in a while to be convinced that it is not just an intermittent fix though ;-)
My problem when printing from LR was that the print came out much too Cyan-Green and somewhat dark when color management where handled by LR. When the same photo was exported to PS Elements (PSE) in Tiff with the Pro-photo color profile embedded, adjustments from LR, and printed using the same driver setting and color management, the print came out fine.
I must mention that I have had fine printout in previous LR versions but I'm not sure when the problem started. But at least from LR version 1.3, 1.3.1 I have had problems printing a proper print.
As I'm not 100% sure what caused the fix, I don't want to leave much info un-documented, so I start by describing my system etc.:
    - Athlon 64 3500+ with 2 GB RAM
    - Lacie 119 LCD monitor (calibrated with a ColorVision Spyder 2)
    - Epson Stylus Photo 890 printer; an old (6-7 years) 6 color dye-sub printer, but it can still produce very good prints. (It is BTW, the A4 printer version of Epson 1290).
    - Microsoft XP service pack 2
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.3.1.
    - Adobe Photoshop Elements 5
    - Latest Epson 890 printer drivers ver. 5.21/P (from 2004)
    - ICC profiles for various Epson printer paper
    - Paper used: Ilford Printasia Photo Glossy Paper (but I have tried Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper as well with same results)
    I used following setting:
    - In printer driver: "No color management" was selected
    - LR and PSE color management; printer profile: Epson Stylus Photo 890 Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Rendering Intent: Perceptual
    . LR Print sharpening: High
    - LR Print resolution: 360ppi
When the photo was opened in PSE and I had printed a small print with above mentioned printer driver/color management settings. The print looked good, but with a little magenta color cast, so I thought that if I used a different printer profile this might help (I have no ICC profile for the Ilford paper). So I chose the "Epson Stylus Photo 890 Photo Paper" instead and printed again, and this time the photo looked as it did on my calibrated monitor. I have to admit I was a bit delighted even though it was from printed from PSE and not from LR, but seeing that color management worked in other applications was a relief.
In PSE, I also I tried changing to a different Rendering Intent before changing printer profile, but with no success.
Another thing that helped further was to change Media Type in printer driver from "Premium Glossy Photo Paper" to "Photo Paper".
After the print success in PSE I went back to LR and changed the Printer Profile to "Epson Stylus Photo 890 Photo Paper" (still with "No color management" and "Photo Paper" selected in printer driver) and printed the photo again. Now the photo looked as good as it did in PSE (!!!???).
Now I have made a few printer preset in LR for various print sizes, and the prints look fantastic. Every time! Do I have to mention that I am a happy guy ? :-)
BTW, remember that a printer preset also saves the printer driver settings. Forgetting this can easily cause some unexpected results.
The only thing is that, I still do not know what fixed the problem, and I am a bit worried that the problem might come back again. Maybe the print related changes made in PSE and the following selection of the same settings in LR did - somehow - "synchronize" LR to a proper color management. Sounds weird, but if it works...
I hope this long explanation was useful to - at least - some of you, who experience printer problems in LR. LR is a fantastic application, and I enjoy using it, but the printer problems has really been frustrating.
    Good luck!

Little unclear about the border thing- you say it prints with a too wide border, but also say:
When I print the image with this set up, it still is printed without a border.
It's a factor of your printer, though; some can never print without a margin around all sides; this can be a border, or cut off. Good news, though; you can have a 5 x 7 borderless, or with any size border you wish if you print on larger paper, and trim to taste.

  • Printing problems with HP Laserjet P1005

everything seems to be ok with my printer HP Lasejet P1005, but it just  doesn't print. The works are in the gueue and error messages continually is "set the new toner cartridge"  althrough I've changed the cartridge already.  Also there is a message "HP:s part number"
What can or should I do??? Help!!!

    Hi @rlp48,
I see by your post that you are getting the error message "set the new toner cartridge" and you have already changed it with a HP toner. I would like to help.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
Open and close the lid 5 times quickly. It should print out a page with lines on it.
Did it print the self test?
If the self test page printed, clear the Spool folder and restart the Print Spooler and try printing again.

Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • Hp 4015: Printing problem on A5 LABEL

Hi, my new HP LJ 4015 have a problem when I print A5 LABEL, because the ink are not fixed hard on label.
I Use MANUAL TRAY 1, LINEAR OUTPUT on the back oh the printer,  I set Size and Label type, I try to setup Fuser setting to HIGH 2, ENABLE SLOW SPEED, but the problem are not solved.
The problem increase to the bottom of the A5 label, maybe because the ink needed more times on the fuser for fix it hard on label...
Can you please suggest me the BEST CONFIGURATION for printing LABEL on this Laserjet??
    Thanks. Bye

I have a couple of suggestions here, but these are both just guesses, since I can't see the label media that you are using.
    1.  If the label is thick, you may want to try setting the paper type to "heavy media".
    2.  If the label is slick or shiny, it may not work well with any laser printer.    Was this label made for laser printing?

  • HP LaserJet 2100TN printer problems

I am running OS 10.8.2 and recently added a new DLINK wireless router - none of my iMacs can find the HP LaserJet 2100TN printer.  Not sure if this happened when I installed the new router or the last Apple OS update - both were at approximately the same time and the printer did not work afterwords.  Other network MFP printer does work. I can find the IP address from the router so I know it is connected but when I try to add the printer using the IP address it says it can not find the driver from the downloads server.  I downloaded the driver package from the Apple Support site http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907 and installed the package with no improvement.  (I actually could not find anything to run after installing the package.)  Have shut down, rebooted numerous times to no avail.  I've tried different cables and even direct connecting the printer to the computer via ethernet cable (but did not expect this to work.)  Suggestions?  Why does the add printer effort return an error from the downloads server when the dialog says software is available from Apple?

I'm glad you finally succeeded. Your post was one I looked at trying to solve the same problem. But the drivers weren't visible for me after rebooting.
I spent 2 days trying to make my LJ 2100 TN work with OS 10.8.2. The kicker was that when I tried to add the printer to my existing [ethernet] network with my new iMac on Wi-Fi it killed the existing network. No computer could now print! I could still get on-line though.
I did a lot of research on the net; I called my ISP and did learn how to get the IP numbers on each device; I called Mac Tec, they passed the buck, saying because I wasn't using a Mac router they couldn't help.
This post is for others that can't see the drivers they just downloaded. I solved my problem today:
When I tried to add the printer to 'Print & Scan' the 'Add' window comes up; and even though I made the 2.12 download, there were no print drivers to be seen. Apple in it's infinite wisdom left out the 'Advanced' icon in the 'Add' window! Right click the header and add it. Now there is a function to actually search for the print drivers.
You will have to choose 'Type'. I tried a few but 'Jetdirect' worked best for me. NOTE: your printer should be on before you make your choices in the 'Add' window.
Add your printer's IP number in the 'URL' field.
In the 'Use' field, select your proper print driver.
If you did it all correctly, the 'Add' button will light up and hopefully add a new printer to the 'Print & Scan' window.
Good luck. [I also had the delete and replace the printer on my other 2 computers in the network to make them able to print again.]
