[SOLVED] Jmicron ethernet card doesn't work

HI there,
I am installing Arch64 on Sager NP8170 laptop. Networking card is Jmicron PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, which is controlled by kernel-build module JME.
Command
lsmod | grep jme
shows that module is loaded. Ping to sites does not work.
dhcpcd eth0
is timed out.
I loaded the latest module from www.jmicron.com. The driver is compiled by the following Makefile:
MODNAME := jme
TEMPFILES := $(MODNAME).o $(MODNAME).mod.c $(MODNAME).mod.o Module.symvers .$(MODNAME).*.cmd .tmp_versions modules.order
EXTRA_CFLAGS += -Wall -O3
#EXTRA_CFLAGS += -DTX_DEBUG
#EXTRA_CFLAGS += -DREG_DEBUG
obj-m := $(MODNAME).o
ifeq (,$(BUILD_KERNEL))
BUILD_KERNEL=$(shell uname -r)
endif
KSRC ?= /lib/modules/$(BUILD_KERNEL)/build
MODULE_INSTALLDIR = /lib/modules/$(BUILD_KERNEL)/kernel/drivers/net
all:
    @$(MAKE) -C $(KSRC) SUBDIRS=$(shell pwd) modules
    @rm -rf $(TEMPFILES)
checkstack:
    $(MAKE) -C $(KSRC) SUBDIRS=$(shell pwd) modules
    objdump -d $(obj-m) | perl $(KSRC)/scripts/checkstack.pl i386
    @rm -rf $(TEMPFILES)
namespacecheck:
    $(MAKE) -C $(KSRC) SUBDIRS=$(shell pwd) modules
    perl $(KSRC)/scripts/namespace.pl
    @rm -rf $(TEMPFILES)
clean:
    @rm -rf $(MODNAME).ko $(TEMPFILES)
install: all
    install -c -m 644 *.ko $(MODULE_INSTALLDIR)
    /sbin/depmod -ae
When I am doing
make install
I have the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/build :  No such file or directory. Stop
I am working with the problem for 2 days and googling does not help either.
Please help.

  • Ethernet card doesn't work with new arch install?

    Hi guys,
    so this is kinda my first post, not that I'm new to arch i just never had an issue i couldn't figure out on my own... But i love arch i have been using it for about a year now and have had no serious problems except for this. I have had arch running on an older dell vostro 200 desktop before i reinstalled with a vary similar issue except that the fix i came up with doesn't work anymore. I will tell you about the first issue first because i ALMOST posted on here about it originally but i figured out a way to make it work even though it was a hassle.
    After cold/rebooting my computer the network card doesn't work at all. lspci reported that the kernel module e1000e was the correct one (i have verified this) and that the kernel has loaded it, i verified that with dmesg but still it wouldn't work. After much much anguish and hairpulling, I realized that it had to have something to do with the module so i tried forcing it to reload with rmmod e1000e and modprobe e1000e and it still wouldn't work until i physically unpluged the ethernet cord and pluged it back in until the light on the NIC turned on. After that everything works as normal i could even unplug and plug it back in with no problems. So eventually i wrote a script that did this for me (except for the uplugging and plugging part)  and i used that when i cold/rebooted.
    But now i have the exact same issue after reinstalling arch to the T except for the fact that the (crazy) fix i came up with doesn't work now. I used my "fix" after booting from the arch cd and it worked just like it always has. And now after rebooting into my fresh system the fix doesn't work anymore. So now i'm back where i was to begin with but i have no idea what to try next. I didn't do anything particularly different during installation except i added a udev rule for the e1000e module just to see if somehow that would fix the problem... it didnt and i have since deleted that (to see if it was the problem). The only other thing that is different is the root and home are now btrfs partitions instead of ext4.
    I have booted several other live cds and dvds (diferent distros) including arch derivatives such as manjaro and they all worked just fine, using the same kernel module (e1000e).  I'm not sure what that could mean but i know that it means there is a fix for this some way or another. I am going to hook up a wifi adapter and connect that computer to the internet to put some more information up if it's needed (asked for) but for now  lspci -vnn | grep -i -A 10 net reports

  • P20-552: 2GB SD card doesn't work.

    I have a P20-552 (PSP26E-025E9-S4) which is about 18 months old. I recently bought a Canon digital camera (IxUS 750) with a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II SD card and the combination is working well. Although I can transfer images from the camera to my Toshiba portable using an USB cable, sometimes I would like to use the SD slot on the portable but there seems to be a problem: seconds after pressing home the SD card in the slot I get the message "Disk is not formatted - Do you want to format it now?". I reply OK but then I get the message "The disk in drive E cannot be formatted"
    The card continues to work perfectly well in both my camera and in my iPaq PocketPC. The SD card slot in the Toshiba will work quite happily with the Sandisk 256MB SD card that is usually in my PDA.
    Anybody has any idea why the 2GB card doesn't work in the Toshiba? Is it a question of updating a driver - I did look the other day but I couldn't find anything that to me seemed appropriate but I might well have overlooked something..
    I am running XP Home (SP2) and have fully automatic updates ON. I have Norton Virus and Zone Alarm running and am not experiencing any problems with any other software/applications - at least, no problem since someone suggested vacuuming my overheating laptop a few weeks ago ;-)
    Thanks, Brian.

    It seems that the unit doesnt support this card.
    Check your user manual. There you will find a information that this unit supports only the following SD card sizes: 8/16/32/64/128/256 and 512 MB
    According to this document the 2 GB are to high.

    i would try an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

    if it still gives that message, you need to take it to apple store or apple service provider to have a new card installed. the apple site gives listings of providers and stores in your area:

  • My Card doesn't work anymore and keeps asking me for the card information. How do I turn the card option back to "none".

    How do I turn this off? I can't download anything until I put in the card's information. But the card doesn't work anymore, it ran out of money. It keeps saying that my last perchase was unseccessful or something. I just want this to stop so I can update and download apps! Please help!

    My iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 crahed b/c the HD cannot be repaired. I reinstalled Mac OS X and luckily have most documents and applications. I have moved them all into folders before I erase the HD. I had all my documents but lost the 3 applications for iWorks. It says go to the store, buy and enter your serial#. That is not working. • IPhone 5 sim card doesn't work

    Hi,
    One day the SIM card in IPhone 5 just stopped working. I can see the network on the desktop and in general settings, but it does not work for real. I can't make a call, send a message or get internet. Sometimes it goes "No service", "Searching" but then goes back.
    I have checked this SIM card with different phone - it works properly good. Any different SIM card in my IPhone also doesn't work.
    So I went to the Apple Store (Indonesia, Denpasar, Bali) they said you need to reset all the content and settings. So I did all and nothing happened.
    Again SIM doesn't work - same situation. What is interesting sometimes I'm getting messages from the network so it seems that SIM card works some time but I can not make any calls or actions with SIM.
    In the App Store guys told me this might be a hardware problem which could not be solved it's just broken.
    They say you can exchange an IPhone for the new one but not in Bali because they don't have IPhone 5 anymore. Is it fair?
    Please help me what can I do and how can I make my IPhone works or exchanged it for a new one.
    I will be in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur on February 7th. Can I exchange my IPhone here?

    Thank you. I bought IPhone in USA 2 years ago.
    "The iPhone warranty is not international" - it's very sad. Just wondering why people in the Store told me different things.

    What does the problem with modules mean? Archlinux was warning me, that "in future releases /etc/modprobe.d/framebuffer_blacklist.conf.save will be ignored, but it is the same file as /etc/modprobe.d/framebuffer_blacklist.conf.
    I don't understand, why it cannot find any screens (I use a laptop screen)
    I tried to start with and without xorg.conf, which is:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel X4500MHD"
    Driver "intel"
    VendorName "Intel Corporation"
    BoardName "Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
    Option "DRI" "true"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
    Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
    EndSection
    The graphic driver I use is xf86-video-intel-newest from archstuff, but it is the same version as xf86-video-intel.
    I am not sure if I provided all needed info, but I hope so. Thank you for your help.SOLVED

    Use the arch version.   It is actually built against the xorg version that you are using...  here is the relevant section of your log:

  • ICloud is messing with my phone and now iStore says my card doesn't work.

    Okay. Where do I begin. I feel like a crazy person, Anyway.
    So all of this started when I got my MacBook Pro. I had just got a new e-mail so of course I want to update my iCloud account with the new e-mail and a new password. Seems easy enough but NO, it's been a nightmare.
    1. I can't update, delete or do anything with the iCloud setting in my phone, which is still registered to the old e-mail. It keeps asking for the old password and it does not make sense because it has been disabled. Help me god.
    2. I can't update or do anything in the App/iTunes Store because it keeps asking for verification, which leads to my card info (was already saved) but now all I get is it has either been declined or is not a valid payment option etc etc etc.
    3. Same thing as number 2 happened on my iTunes Store on my macbook.
    And that's it. My phone is having a meltdown because he's stuck in some sort of non-existant iCloud account twilight zone. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work, I get nothing from the apple support (thanks Apple! Great customer care by the way!) and no one around me seems to know what to do or what the deal is.
    I'm just a simple human being that gets very frustrated when technology doesn't work.
    So if anyone out there is really smart and can figure this out and tell me step by step what to do before I set my phone on fire, please help me!
    I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

    Does your phone charge without issues when using the Apple supplied charger?
    If it does, the issue is with the Mophie.
    If it does not, the issue may be with the iPhone or may simply be a dirty dock connector.

  • [SOLVED] External USB mouse doesn't work

    I've installed Arch on my laptop and today faced with a problem. When I boot with AC off my external USB mouse doesn't work. Also it looks like USB ports don't work. If I detached AC when working mouse works fine.
    I can suppose there is some problem with laptop mode. May be it turns off usb ports to save energy. Anyway quick search doesn't brings any results. If someone give me a hint how to solve this problem I'll be very grateful.

    Well, after diving into configs solution has been founded. The point was to disable auto suspend feature in laptop-mode-tools config by setting BATT_SUSPEND_USB variable to 0 in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/usb-autosuspend.conf
    Hope this information will be helpful for users who probably faced with the same problem. Thank you!

  • Satellite 1900-803: Hi-Speed USB 2.0 card doesn't work

    i have a satellite 1900-803 laptop. I recently bought and installed a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Notebook Card but it doesn't work. the card's manual says that after successful installation i should see a second "universal serial bus controllers" heading which i didn't. i even had it replaced it with another one thinking that there might be some problems with the drivers, but it still doesn't work. everytime i plug in a device such as an mp3 player, a digital camera or a usb storage device, windows just suddenly locks itself up, the cursor won't move, the ctrl-alt-del function doesn't work, and the worst of all, i can't turn off the machine!
    the card says that it runs on any 32-bit slot.
    i've browsed the user's manual and the device manager to see if mine is a 32-bit one, but i can't really find it. is this probably the reason why it won't work? or is there any other reason for it not working? if this is the reason, is there a way where i can upgrade my laptop's pc card slot to make it work?
    please help.
    i've posted this question yesterday morning and haven't got a single reply. is it because it has got to do with an older laptop? please, anybody, help..........

    Hi
    Did you check the Bios? I assume the Toshiba Bios was preinstalled on your notebook. Am I right? There should be an option for changing the PC card controller mode.
    There you can change the controller mode to auto-selected, PCIC compatible or Card bus/16-bit.
    If the card supports 32 bit so you shouldnt use the 16bit option.
    I think you should play a little bit with this option and possibly the card will work.

  • KA780G second network card doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
    Today, I put an second network card on the KA780G board (it's for a round robin network), on a free PCI slot, and this card isn't recognised by Linux and Windows  (in Windows XP, when the network card is connected, my graphical card works bad as well).
    I tested this network card in another computer and it's working well, I try with another type of network card and it's not working.
    I upgraded the BIOS with the latest release and reset the bios parameters but it doesn't work.
    Do I need to put some specifics parameters in the BIOS ?
    Someone as an idea ?
    Thanks
    Matt

    As you want... but I know the truth
    Transfert a file takes me twice the time when the second network card was unpluged (the test was made with two differents files with the same size, this is for keeping disk caching speeding the transfert).
    I think, your're not understanding, so let me explain the achitecture of my network : two computers pluged to my "super magic switch" (each with one network card) and my NAS with two round robin's network card.
    I transfert one file from the NAS to the first computer and at the same time another file from the NAS to the second computer. The network speed was (on the NAS) about 24MB/s (see with the system monitor).
    If you're right explain me why many people using port trunking with their switches ?
    Matt.
