[Solved] Kde4 theme on plasma-next

Hi
I Installed plasma-next kf5 and so on today. Since the kde base apps like dolphin and kate and konsole weren't available on qt5 I install ed the kde4 versions of them. No matter what I change the theme to those qt4 apps are stuck on oxygen. I have breeze-kde4 installed. Gtk2 and Gtk3 have no issues. Whenever I open dolphin it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I have tried deleting the .kde folder to no effect.

With /usr/bin/qtconfig-qt4 you can choose "Breeze" as GUI Style for qt4 apps.

Hello, i am a bit confused about DE kde. I have the last update of kde4 (4.14.0) available for Arch. But i know it is already available kf5 too. So i should wait a new update that will convert kde4.14 to kf5 sooner or later, or i should install kf5 since now? And for plasma next? thank you!

The current situation is somewhat confusing - you can no longer refer to "KDE" as a single application package, so "KDE 5" is meaningless.
There are now three different pieces of software you can consider "KDE":

thank you caligula, now it is a little more clear. So a kde user should wait the kde applications and plasma update to 5. But about kf5? i have seen that if i try to install kf5, the system make me replace my old versions to the new. it is convenient replace them now?

Hi just a doubt the breeze-kde4 theme can it be installed in KDE 4. I just have installed but on the section "colors" don't shows Breeze and Breeze Dark colors.

[SOLVED] kde4: Smplayer error open file (klauncher5).

hi, if i try open a file (video) with smplayer, I get the error:
Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: The name org.kde.klauncher5 was not provided by any .service files.

A few weeks ago I decided to try breeze theme on kde4. Definitely was not a good idea to mix elements of plasma-next with kde4.
I deleted breeze breeze-kde4.

Plasma-next very weird graphic bug, happen on different machine

the problem happen on my desktop (amd GPU) and two laptop (intel GPU).
it is the same: it is like some part of the screen are not updated/refreshed, sometimes opening thge windows make them ppear and disappear, and thing like that.
forcing the wiondows to update (like moving it, resizing, scrolling) is a workaround for when opening a window it is not repainted.
i realli like the plasma-next, but it is too bugged, it worst than kde4

How to upgrade my archlinux with plasma-next installed?

I have installed plasma5 by following the beginger's guide:
1. install kde4 modules
2. remove kdebase-workspace
3. install plasma-next
In recent upgrade I got a tip that kdebase-workspace is required.
So I have to abort upgrade process.
How can I upgrade my archlinux?
Remove plasma-next , install kdebase-workspace, upgrade , install plasma-next?

Question for saving the parameters in order to reload them on the next run of the VI.

I need your help if it is possible.
I have an application : Figure1.vi
For running this vi: first I choice the parameters which I'd like display,for example Courant Isa, Isb, etc..
and I click on the button Valider for display their respectives curves.
My question is I'd like to save the last parameters of displaying in order to reload them on the next run of the VI.
What is the method to save them?
I think that There are several ways of saving the parameters in order to reload them on the next run of the VI. For my particular case, someone say me that he would recommend usingan .ini file, which can be written using the configuration VI's on the file i/o palette.
I already See "Write Configuration Settings File.vi" and "Read Configuration Settings File.vi" in the Example Finder for an example of how to do this but I don't know what I must make in my application when I have a graph XY and a multi plot.
When I click on Enrgistrer:I'd like to save my parameters but when I clik on «Charger», I'd like to reload the last parameters whwen I save.
Can you help me, please ?

Hello,
In your case it's perhaps better to use an XML file.
Connect everything you want to save into and array or a cluster, and then use the "Flatten to XML" and then, "Write to XML File".
Then in he beginning of you program, use "Read from XML file" and "Unflatten from XML", this should recover the data you previously stored in the file. Connect to the type input of the "Unflatten from XML" the type you created when saving (the array or the cluster of all your data).

[Solved] KDE4 won´t finish loading after login-in with KDM

I have been trying to solve this for a while but I'm still struggling to solve it. The problem is that I can't successfully start KDE4; after trying to log as a normal user with a password the loading screen that shows the KDE icons (a harddrive, some tools and a globe) it gets stuck on the desktop icon.
I could load KDE once, but I had to start X first and then use the xterm to call startkde, nevertheless it didn't asked for a user/pass and there was no menu visible only the desktop with the computer icon. (Not to mention I had to start it manually.)
This are the points that are currently apply to my machine:
KDE was installed as the normal user with sudo.
It was installed using the minimal install command: pacman -S kdebase kde-l10n-es phonon-vlc kdebase-workspace.
Right now I'm trying to start KDE at boot by using the inittab method. As suggested in here.
Because of it, if I try to run startx it will load kdm which will then try to load KDE without success.
This is the .xinitrc file in my user folder.

I believe that the most important file here is the xsession-error, and as I have said the file is cut at last line that appeared before the KDE got stuck, in case it is not enough info just tell me how much should I let it run.

Compositing is needed for the desktop effects, everything from shadows under windows to things like the desktop cube. Its difficult to say whether its a nvidia or kde bug since I was just going on guesswork; I know that compositing is started at about the point you mention the freezes. I don't know how far KDE loaded when you started it manually since I don't really recognise your description of what it was like but I'd guess that some other window manager (twm perhaps if you've been following the wiki) was already running, in which case kwin (which does the compositing) would not have started.
Since desktop effects really improve the look and feel of kde (things like shadows and improved window switchers, desktop cube and the like are pure eye-candy) you may wish to debug further. Your graphics card should be able to run desktop effects as I have a laptop with a previous generation nvidia chip which runs fine after a bit of tweaking.
If you load the desktop effects section of system settings you should see a checkbox "Enable desktop effects" if you check that you'll be able to switch to the "All effects" tab. Try disabling the Blur effect and clicking "Apply". If kwin still can enable compositing you'll see a box with a countdown that will automatically disable desktop effects again if you don't choose to keep the new settings. You might also want to try changing the scale method from "Accurate" to "Smooth" in the advanced tab.

Konqueror doesn't display home icons using the breeze theme on plasma

I've tried the plasma desktop environment, and it's lovely. But as described in the title, I find that konqueror doesn't show icons for home folder if opened as a browser under the default breeze theme. The location for the desired icon is
file:///usr/share/icons/breeze/places/user-folders/user-home.svg
. And neither do the icons for Trash, Network Folders etc. But when changing the icons theme to oxygen, the problem disappears. I don't know how to solve this problem. Any help is appreciated.

You did that with by holding the control key and scrolling on the right edit of the pad, which is equivalent to Ctrl+scrollwheel on the mouse.

The problem with the Zoom toolbar buttons (+ and -) builtin to Firefox 4 is that there is no way to zoom directly to normal (100%) nor even tell what zoom level you are at.

[SOLVED] KDE4 - Qt - Obsidian Coast

I installed a fresh arch on my computer. I'm using KDE 4.
Everything works perfectly except for the appearance of the qt4 applications (Kate, Konsole).

I installed kde, oxygen and kde-gtk-config. I tried moving .config and .kde directories, but it didn't worked.
On another computer everything works fine. What can I do to make the colors have been applied?

Solved by purging kde, installing plasma and oxygen-kde4 and changing color scheme in settings.

[SOLVED] KDE4 kdm symbol lookup error in libQtSvg.so.4

Hello,
I'm running 32-bit.
After pacman updated KDE, kdm doesn't start anymore. kdm.log shows this error:
/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdm_greet: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtSvg.so.4: undefined symbol
I tried reinstalling kdebase-workspace and qt to which the files belong to but didn't help. Eventually I reinstalled all the packages using:
# comm -23 <(pacman -Qeq|sort) <(pacman -Qmq|sort) | pacman -S -
Also no luck. All other packages are up to date.
Any help would be appreciated.

[SOLVED] KDE4.3 is not rendering correctly the images in the desktop

As someone suggests, and I also agree with him, it would be a driver problem. My graphic card is "ATI Radeon X1950 Pro" and I'm using the "xf86-video-ati 6.12.2-2" driver. I know that there are other possibilities according to this wiki:

I already tested them with KDE4.2 and xf86-video-ati provided the best result for me.
Someone with an ATI card has the same problem? Which driver would you suggest to me?

fixed all my problems. Probably you've heard about it Now, I don't have any rendering problem and I have enabled the Desktop effects. I tested it with and without the xorg.conf file. Both of them worked, but without the file I don't have my keyboard in Spanish.
I read that it was possible the KMS support. I tested it by changing from graphical to text mode but it takes some time so I guess that it's not enabled. Is there any way to test KMS?
Is it possible to upgrade the AUR driver to the official repository? Meanwhile, I will comment my problem in the KDE site.

I have a fresh Arch + Plasma 5 install running on my machine. I have followed the arch-wiki to get it up and running. However I have installed Docky and it's shooting errors at me. The main issue is that it doesn't display most of the applications icons. Screenshot here. The order of the apllications is Docky Settings, Firefox, Konsole, Separator, Trashcan, Weather. I am using the default Breeze icon theme and switching to a different one didin't help.

I have also tried avant-window-navigator but had the same issues with it.
Please have a look at the output, maybe the icons problem is caused by some errors encountered before all the drawing?

[SOLVED] KDE4.4.5 multiple krunner errors at launch

All of a sudden KDE won't launch properly. I get a series of 70+ KDE Crash Handler messages, all with some variation on this:

I don't see that I've updated any packages in the past 24 hours or so. This problem wasn't there last night, but when I rebooted this morning, ugh.

Aside: While this problem may well be due to user error (or user ignorance), I'm starting to feel as if KDE is becoming nearly as opaque as Windows in its behavior and error reporting.

I got it fixed.
The cause: I had done an overnight backup to what I thought was a remote location. In fact, I misconfigured my backup script and sent the backup to a local file instead. The result was that one of my partitions filled to the brim.
I wish the system had let me know. Maybe it tried and I didn't notice or didn't check system mail or something.
At any rate, rather than sending out some kind of warning, KDE, when it didn't have space to launch properly, ran through a humongous number of krunner attempts and logged a fairly non-informative screen message each time (see first post).
I got the solution from a stray message on one of the LinuxQuestions.org forums that reported similar symptoms when some tmp or log files grew so big that KDE didn't have room to launch. That's when I finally decided to run df and see what the status of my partitions was. Zero percent free in /dev/sda3 was the culprit. I normally have about 60 percent free on that partition. Zapping those wrongly placed backup files gave me my space back and let KDE start.
