[SOLVED]Linux 3.10.6 fails to detect network interfaces, input devices

I upgraded my ASUS laptop to Linux 3.10.6 and I can no longer use my mouse or keyboard in a desktop environment. A USB mouse faired no better. The keyboard works in console mode. I've done a couple reboots and a good deal of searching online, but no one seems to have the same problem. My first inclination was that udev was no longer running, but a quick "ps -aux | grep udev" revealed that systemd-udevd was running, but not udev itself. Is it safe to start it manually? My network interfaces have also disappeared, BTW, and the font size in console mode has also changed (size has increased, font is fuzzier). Any ideas?
EDIT: I do have the loopback interface.

Does your running kernel match what pacman has installed?  Do uname -r and compare that against the version of pacman -Q linux.  If they are different, reboot.

It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Failed to initialize Network interface

    Hi,
I recently bought the Linksys AV Ethernet Adapter PLE200/PLK200 to use in my home, and today I decided to install it, according to the manual, together with software that followed in the package.
Everything went rather smoothly until the installation of the software was complete and I was going to start the program and configure my connection for the first time, when a ”Fatal Error”-box opened in front of me on my screen and said ”Failed to initalize Network interface – Exiting”. I hoped that it was a one time-error, but no matter how many times I tried, the same ”Fatal Error” came everytime i tried to run the program.
I’ve searched most of the net for a solution of this problem, but quite honestly I haven’t found anything that could help me, so now I’m turning to you, guys. Any idea how I can fix this error from making me unable the run the program?
I use Windows Vista Home Premium OEM 64-bit as my OS if it’s of any help.

I do not have the CD so I could not follow those steps exactly.  I downloaded the setup file, but everytime i try and get it to run, i receive the same error as the OP.  I only have two computers and both are running windows 7-64 home premium.  on both PCs, i've tried installing and running the PLE200 appliaction as an administrator and in windows xp sp2 and sp3 compatibility modes.  what else can i try to get the utility to work in windows 7?  thanks!

  • OVM Server 2.2.1 in a ProLiant BL680c G7 did not detect networks interfaces

    Hello everybody
I just installed OVM Server in a HP ProLiant BL680c G7 and the installation finish. But the network interfaces was not detected. (The installation skip the network steps)
The Server have 24 network interfaces (FlexFabric Embedded Ethernet)
Any idea in order to recognize network interfaces??
    greetings

    Hi,
try using OVM 2.2.2 which was released a week ago. (edelivery.oracle.com/linux)
A lot of drivers were updated, maybe now your network cards are also detected.
    Regards

  • CP4 Post-patch, program fails to properly recognize audio input devices

I am using Captivate 4 on a 64 bit PC running Windows 7 and a RealTek sound card. I have installed both the general patch and a specific patch from Adobe marked as addressing the issues with recognizing RealTek sound cards but to no avail.
Captivate still will not appropriately recognize my input device. I have not even been able to calibrate it. I've included a screen capture of the settings dialogue box below. The Audio Devices drop-down menu is always unavailable for selection ("greyed out") and always shows the device "Volume". Choosing different options does not alter this availability and selecting "Calibrate Input" does nothing.....the program literally takes no action whatsoever.
When I have attempted to record test pieces the Record, Stop, Advance, etc. functions also do not operate appropriately.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Solved.
It was trivial: I cleaned the drive twice with a  special kit.

    hi guys!
i am now trying to build my own live archlinux distribution with archiso and with the command "mkarchiso"

i continue the process with that error and in the "run" step i did this command

and that you cannot log to tty
    any suggestions?

First run it, without any modification to learn how it works. Check if works. Modify as you need. Check if works...
Do not worry about the mkinitcpio error, because such initramfs images should not be used for boot live medium. You can see that profiles uses own mkinitcpio.conf with at least archiso hook
Running mkarchiso directly is not the right way, at least if you do not know how things works.
    [root@exequiel tmp]# cp -r /usr/share/archiso/configs/baseline .

  • [SOLVED] Brasero fails to detect blank discs

This has been an issue for a long time now, but find it time to ask about it. My problem is that Brasero doesn't detect blank discs. However, with Nautilus it detects the disc perfectly, the same with wodim.
Why is is that Brasero fails to detect my discs? Is this a package error, or what?

I got same problem and accidentaly resolved it while I was trying to get trash and external devices working with pcmanfm2. You need to install gvfs and add "dbus-launch" to your xinitrc, eg:
    exec dbus-launch openbox-session
    or run brasero by
    dbus-launch brasero
    hope it helps
Indeed, starting Brasero with dbus-launch resolves the problem!
    Thanks, man!

  • [SOLVED] Network interface enp2s0 no longer detected

    Hello,
Yesterday after rebooting, right after Grub, systemd-fsck does its stuff (clearing blocks, etc...) then nothing.
After a quick research I've found that removing "quiet" from the Grub command line would allow more messages to be displayed, which was quite helpful.
This is in fact not a partition mounting problem, here is what I have:
[ OK ] Started Accounts Service.
[ TIME ] Time out waiting for device sys-subsytem-net-devices-enp2s0.device
[ DEPEND ] Dependency failed for dhcpcd on enp2s0.
    [ OK ] Reached target Multi-User System.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
I obviously have a networking problem (and probably a "Graphical Interface" or Nvidia related thing problem), so I log in another console, and after doing ip link list, I only have the loopback listed, no enp2s0 or WiFi interface, for some reason they are no longer detected.
I've run the live version of Arch to mount and arch-chroot my partitions, not to mention my network interfaces are detected and I can upgrade things with pacman, I've tried to disable dhcpcd on enp2s0 to avoid the time out thing, and while I can say it does what it's supposed to do, it doesn't solve anything anyway since I'm still stuck at Reached target Graphical Interface. (and don't have any network access, to state the obvious).
I've even thought about a Kernel/Driver problem after an update, but I'm not sure, any idea or some log I can have a look at ?
    Thank you for your time.

removing composite got rid of some of the errors however
    glxgears wrote:1248 frames in 5.0 seconds = 249.443 FPS
glxgears is not a benchmark.  If you're having issues in actually graphically-intensive applications, like games, then say so, but otherwise this output means very little, even though you get higher scores with vesa.

    Those are fine, harmless messages.

'radeon' DRI needs the 'libgl-dri' package, which conflicts with ati-fglrx-utils.  You can't have both installed at the same time - if you didn't remove ati-fglrx-utils and reinstall libgl-dri before trying this, that's likely your problem.

Lenovo Thinkpad W500, Intel (R), Windows 7, SP1, latest updates as of Oct 15
    (1) Checked Setting,  set to automatic update whenever, even changed to never update, rebooted the OS and changed back to automatic update and rebooted the OS.
    (2) Stopped Windows Update Services, renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the window update services and rebooted.
    (3) Ran MS FIXIT
    (4) Ran System File checker Scan (sfc /scannow)
    (5) Ran CHKDSK /F
    (6) Installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers from Lenovo site
    (7) Ran Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
None of the above possible recommended solutions were able to fix the issue yet and now I am getting a message your Window is Not Genuine!
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!
    The End!

  • [SOLVED] Login to Gnome Session fails when not online

Sry, this is weird and i don't know how to fix it. Whenever i am not online during login stage in gdm i cannot
start the Gnome Shell. I get the "Oops" Screen and need  to logout. All is fine when i am Online however.
Even weirder: When i try to login for several times, usually 3-4, without being online and without restarting, gnome eventually disables all
shell extensions and is starting... BUT after a restart the same problem appears even when all user extensions are still disabled ?!
here is the output from journalctl ... has anyone, any clue ?

  • [Solved] postfix local mail delivery fails

    Hi Guys,
on my home pc i use postfix (gmail as a smtp relay) and fetchmail for sending/receiving mails, this works very well, however sending a mail to a local user fails, I'm lost here and need your help guys.
    if i send a mail like :
$>echo "Test" | mail -s "Test : local mail delivery" "andy"
The mail stays in the queue for ever...
    $>mailq
-Queue ID- --Size-- ----Arrival Time---- -Sender/Recipient-------
    CC82513BCA* 455 Sun Aug 3 09:53:09 [email protected]
    [email protected]
Sending to external addresses works without any problems.
Here some important info/config files :
    $>whoami
    andy
    $>hostname
    box
    $>cat /etc/host.conf
    # /etc/hosts
    #<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost box
    ::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.1.3 lbox.localdomain lbox
    $>cat /etc/postfix/main.cf

    # of all parameters. For the syntax, and for a complete parameter
    # list, see the postconf(5) manual page (command: "man 5 postconf").
    # For common configuration examples, see BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README
    # and STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README. To find these documents, use
    # the command "postconf html_directory readme_directory", or go to
    # http://www.postfix.org/.
    # For best results, change no more than 2-3 parameters at a time,
    # and test if Postfix still works after every change.
    # SOFT BOUNCE
    # The soft_bounce parameter provides a limited safety net for
    # testing. When soft_bounce is enabled, mail will remain queued that
    # would otherwise bounce. This parameter disables locally-generated
    # bounces, and prevents the SMTP server from rejecting mail permanently
    # (by changing 5xx replies into 4xx replies). However, soft_bounce
    # is no cure for address rewriting mistakes or mail routing mistakes.

    # The local_recipient_maps parameter specifies optional lookup tables
    # with all names or addresses of users that are local with respect
    # to $mydestination, $inet_interfaces or $pr/oxy_interfaces.
    # If this parameter is defined, then the SMTP server will reject
    # mail for unknown local users. This parameter is defined by default.
    # To turn off local recipient checking in the SMTP server, specify
    # local_recipient_maps = (i.e. empty).
    # The default setting assumes that you use the default Postfix local
    # delivery agent for local delivery. You need to update the
    # local_recipient_maps setting if:
    # - You define $mydestination domain recipients in files other than
    # /etc/passwd, /etc/aliases, or the $virtual_alias_maps files.
    # For example, you define $mydestination domain recipients in
    # the $virtual_mailbox_maps files.
    # - You redefine the local delivery agent in master.cf.
    # - You redefine the "local_transport" setting in main.cf.
    # - You use the "luser_relay", "mailbox_transport", or "fallback_transport"
    # feature of the Postfix local delivery agent (see local(8)).
    # Details are described in the LOCAL_RECIPIENT_README file.
    # Beware: if the Postfix SMTP server runs chrooted, you probably have
    # to access the passwd file via the proxymap service, in order to
    # overcome chroot restrictions. The alternative, having a copy of
    # the system passwd file in the chroot jail is just not practical.
    # The right-hand side of the lookup tables is conveniently ignored.

    # wild-card, or specify a [email protected] address.

    # TRUST AND RELAY CONTROL
    # The mynetworks parameter specifies the list of "trusted" SMTP
    # clients that have more privileges than "strangers".
    # In particular, "trusted" SMTP clients are allowed to relay mail
    # through Postfix. See the smtpd_recipient_restrictions parameter
    # in postconf(5).
    # You can specify the list of "trusted" network addresses by hand
    # or you can let Postfix do it for you (which is the default).
    # By default (mynetworks_style = subnet), Postfix "trusts" SMTP
    # clients in the same IP subnetworks as the local machine.
    # On Linux, this does works correctly only with interfaces specified
    # with the "ifconfig" command.
    # Specify "mynetworks_style = class" when Postfix should "trust" SMTP
    # clients in the same IP class A/B/C networks as the local machine.
    # Don't do this with a dialup site - it would cause Postfix to "trust"
    # your entire provider's network. Instead, specify an explicit
    # mynetworks list by hand, as described below.
    # Specify "mynetworks_style = host" when Postfix should "trust"
    # only the local machine.

    # mask specifies the number of bits in the network part of a host
    # address.

I have solved it, and this was the problem (main.cf) message_size_limit = 0 i have set this to unlimited "0" so bigger mails not get rejected by postfix, the defualt value was 10240000 (~10 Mb) after finally checking the postfix log with journalctl -u postfix (because /var/log/mail.log) is not used anymore i found this line : "fatal: main.cf configuration error: mailbox_size_limit is smaller than message_size_limit" after setting mailbox_size_limit to unlimited "0" postfix starts to delivery local mail.

  • [SOLVED] linux-3.13.6-1 and systemd-210-3 causes black screen

My computer boots into total black screen after recent update, including linux-3.13.6-1, xf86-video-intel-2.99.910-1 and systemd-210-3.  I have tried all combinations of rollback, I find  linux-3.12.7-2  + systemd-208-2 resolves my problem.
As I dig on, I find it a problem with systemd-backlight. With running kernel-3.13 and systemd-{210,211},  disabling systemd-backlight service either through kernel parameter systemd.restore_state=0 or by masking systemd-backlight service can fix my problem.
Still, I am not the only one experiencing black screen and unresponsive X input with 3.13 kernel: several radeon user seem to have similar phenomenon but cannot be fixed by disabling backlight restore.  I would suspect restoring backlight is just one of many ways to trigger this issue, I not experienced in kernel, but I will try to debug the problem. Help will be appreciated.
There seems nothing wrong with X, but a problem with power management.

Hello! I seem to be having a similar problem to what is being discussed here. So I figured I would add what is going on with me.
I will try to keep it short but I apologize in advance for it being a bit long.
Hardware: 2006 Imac with Radeon mobility x1600
For me there was no problem before the systemd upgrade to 210 and the upgrade to 211 did not fix the problem of black screen on boot.
Also I upgraded my kernel from 3.13.5-1 to 3.13.6-1 after the problem with systemd started.
Downgrading systemd to 208.10 ( the kernel had been upgraded already) got the system working properly again.
I have since gone back to 211 and have found that:
If I wait for 5 - 10 minutes after the computer boots when I move the mouse the screen wakes up and I can unlock the screen and the computer works as normal.
Note: I am using gdm and gnome3. I think from this that my problem is a brightness/screen not being turned on issue?
If I add nomodeset to the kernel boot parameters the computer works but the Radeon drivers are not loaded.
and after booting with nomodeset if I use "sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1" my computer screen blacks and I have no response.
With both 210 and 211 I can press ctrl+alt+F2 type my username and password into the blind and give commands like "sudo reboot followed by the password" blindly to the computer and the computer will execute them.
I hope that this can be fixed soon... It is annoying at best.
    EDIT
I tried  "sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1" again and found that I can press ctrl+alt+F2 and get a terminal login prompt that I can use and see! Although gdm login/gnome is still a black screen...

  • Zsnes 1.42 fails to detect opengl libs

    Hi there,
I'm new to archlinux (although not new to linux in general) and really like it so far. However I'm having some problems with compiling zsnes 1.42. For some reason zsnes fails to detect opengl.
I'm running libgl 7.0.3rc1-1 and mesa 7.0.3rc1-1 and use the intel video driver in X.
However the configure script from zsnes outputs:
checking for glGetError in -lGL... no
    checking for OpenGL... no
    my config.log
I'm using 1.42 and not the version available in pacman, because newer zsnes versions lack support for netplay.

  • JDS fails to detect wireless LAN Card

I've installed JDS on my Dell laptop (Latitude C840). The network works fine with my wired LAN card - 3COM 3C920-TX. However, JDS fails to detect my wireless card - "True Mobile 1150". Any idea?

    Winston:
I would appreciate any info you can provide on how you got the 3com network card to work.
    I have a 3com 3c940 in my ASUS p4p800 and the
    JDS doesn't install it.
3com say the 3c940 is compatible with Linux 2.4 kernel and SuSE, so theoritically Sun should have installed it correctly, not so.
ASUS says I need kernel source installed in
/usr/src/linux - there is no such directory.
The nonexistent manual in Java Desktop certainly doesn't help.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Can I install the latest GCC compiler or do I need to recompile a pile of programs to use it.
I believe the ATI video card needs files and compilers installed, which the default install did not do.
Thanks in advance for all and any help.
New to Linux, like the JDS all except the network issues. Wireless doesn't work and realize it is because a huge company like Cisco, the grand daddy of networking which brought Linksys are not supporting the broadcom chipset. ARGH!!
