[SOLVED] Rapidly changing pixels in X (Intel 945GME)

Hi,
A few days ago I managed to install Arch Linux on my EEE Box B202 (thanks, devs), containing an Intel 945GME chipset. Everything looks fine, but when I start X, the screen goes black for a few moments (monitor complains 'no sync') and when it is back on, I sometimes notice some screen glitches: a few times a minute there is a little flicker somewhere (especially when something on the screen changes) and pictures are not 'steady', i.e. there are pixels that rapidly change colour (e.g., in the Google logo). On smooth surfaces I don't notice those glitches (or they are less noticeable).
My monitor is connected using a DVI-cable (so, without the DVI-to-VGA-adaptor). In WinXP there are no glitches, so it couldn't be due to the cable or the 945GME chipset that can't handle this resolution... I tried using xf86-video-intel 2.4.3-1 and libdrm 2.3.1-2 as well as xf86-video-intel-newest 2.6.1-2 and libdrm-newest 2.4.4-2 from AUR. On another box (with a i82915G/GV/910GL graphics chip) there are no problems with these drivers (well, connecting using the VGA-port, that is).
I already searched the forums for this (also the Ubuntu- and EEE-users forum), but nothing helps. My xorg.conf reads

When adding @60 to the Mode "1280x1024", my monitor complains about the signal being out of range (despite displaying a somewhat unsharp picture). Uncommenting the "NoAccel" option and commenting out "DRI" didn't solve this problem (only slows down graphics drawing a lot).

Sorry for bumping this old topic, but I managed to workaround this problem (still the same hardware).
The last year I used xf86-video-vesa, as the mentioned problem didn't show up using this driver (and screen rendering in X wasn't slow, so I was fine with that). After getting disturbed by some random screen flickering after KMS was enabled by default (while still adding video=791 and using xf86-video-vesa), I decided to try xf86-video-intel again combined with KMS.
After fixing the above misconfigurations I rebooted and my screen was dropped in a console using 1280x1024@75Hz. Using several consoles for a few hours worked flawlessly. But when starting X (with an xorg.conf generated via X -configure and disabling input hotplugging) things got worse.
At first, I didn't notice anything using black-on-white xterms. But after running Chromium I saw these flickering pixels again, a horizontal line (the bottom of the back button) showed pixels that changed colors rapidly. The problem appeared to be dependent on the contents of the screen: dark, patterned surfaces like several of these pictures acquired a lot of green pixels moving fast (I hope this is comprehensible), the "Floating Diamond" also got some rapidly changing pixels. Moreover, I got a small black line flashing every now and then.
I thought that the refresh rate might be too high for the Intel GPU to cope with (the monitor should be able to handle this). After way too much searching, I discovered how to set a refresh rate in KMS: I added
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=[...] ro video=1280x1024@60
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
to /boot/grub/menu.lst.
After a reboot the refresh rate indeed dropped to 60 Hz. X stubbornly refused to stick to this (I thought it merely used the graphical mode KMS set). A bit more googling resulted in the following adjustments to xorg.conf:

Only question that remains is: why didn't I have these glitches outside of X? Is it because text screens have relatively large areas with the same color? After all, this 'noise' was best visible on heavily patterned areas.
And one last question: should I mention this somewhere upstream (e.g. at the xf86-video-intel people or at LKML)?

    TrippleBuffer is wrong spell, it should be TripleBuffer.
    BTW, TripleBuffer did slow down your 3D performance, so don't enable it.
    PageFlip require DRM 1.9 which I don't have on my Ubuntu. So, I can't test it for you.

         Is there a way of changing pixel colours in (say) a Graphics (or image) object? I want to be able to create a Graphics object, and then change pixel colours, as determined by the results of a numerical simulation, as results are generated.

    You can use the drawLine to draw a one-pixel line in the right place.
    Alternatively (and probably better) use an int array to contain your image data and use a MemoryImageSource to generate an Image for display from that.

    I'm new in EJB, and it's the biggest leap to learn EJB3 without having strong fundamental in EJB 2.Currently, I'm facing the inefficient way to handle database rapid change on my Web Application. I choose JSP, Struts, and EJB3 with Oracle Database 10.1.0.5, Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1, Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.
    I've followed tutorial how to make EJB3 Entity Bean, and how to access EJB Session Bean from JSP. But in that tutorial, there is no clue how to manage or change Entity Bean if there is a change in table structure, let say add 2 new fields, and change 1 field type from VARCHAR to NUMBER..
    What has been done was I create a new EJB3 project, and build all new Entity Bean. All generated JAVA file is copied and pasted to my current Entity Bean file.
    Is there any other easiest and simplest way to handle the rapid change in development process? As I noticed that EJB 3 using TopLink to handle Entity Bean creation process, but i haven't found articles or tutorial how to deal with my problem.

    Unfortunately there is no automatic way to do this with EJB right now. You'll basically need to go into your entity bean and add/change the attribute to match the new database column.
    Note that we do provide automatic synchronization or the ADF Business Components framework - in case you choose to use it instead of EJB 3.0.
    Also if you are just starting your development/learning I think you might want to use JSF and not Struts. Seems like JSF has a much better future then Struts.

    crop to any square ratio (1x1  --  1920x1920  --  any square) and then export the photo using a custom size with the maximum dimension of 1920 - cropping is actually by default just a ratio not a size - the size is set during export

    Yes, I did try it.
    I completely uninstalled Firefox (including personal settings, bookmarks, add-ons etc.) and then I installed Firefox 24 from scratch. The outcome is unchanged. Namely, it installs it and then right when it is about to start for the very first time, it hangs. If I run the task manager I can see the process firefox32. It shows as if it is running. But in fact it is hanging doing nothing. It is almost as if the process is waiting for something to happen and that never occurs. Note that this should not have anything to do with, say, an incompatible add-on/plug in because I had them all removed. I also removed adobe flash prior to the installation and run the malware removal program too.

    Technically, you can't change the size of an image screen pixel. You can use resampling to change the number of pixels representing a current screen pixel (upsample means more pixels are used to represent a pixel, downsample means fewer).
    You can change the size of an image pixel when it's printed by modifying the DPI (dots per inch). The bigger a pixel is, the fewer will fit in an inch, and vice versa.

    This is very hard to explain but when I swipe the played video slowly away the blue N9 icons starts to "glow" on the edges. It's like the video is playing in the background of the icon and changing pixels and making it glowing on the edges. No other color icons makes the glow.

    I have newest xorg and intel drivers (xorg-server 1.7.1.901-2 & xf86-video-intel 2.9.1-1). I tried also downgrade this (and related) packages to older versions (even xorg-server 1.5.* & xf86-video-intel 2.4.*) and the same happens... with only one difference. On that oldest packages I've tried screen doesn't blinks, but the wallpaper of the desktop is changing: my -> default -> my -> default... with the same frequency . I was googling a lot, believe me. I study IT on a University and I asked my friends from there, and they just run out of ideas. In addition i can write that it isn't my laptop fault because windows xp works fine and ubuntu 9.04 (i had before archlinux) also worked good. It has started on ubuntu 9.10, so I thought I move to archlinux, and its still here? I suppose its a problem with intel drivers or xorg, but somehow linked with power management of the monitor(?). But why then older packages don't work? Please, I will be grateful for any help.

    After recent updates, modesetting during boot no longer works if an external (vga) monitor is plugged in.
    Once it gets to modesetting, both screens go black and I can't tell what happens after that (Might hang, might boot fine I just can't see it…) The external vga screen is black (with very occasional horizontal line of noise), but remains on (It doesn't go to sleep, which it usually does if not receiving a signal).
    If the monitor is unplugged during boot then plugged in once the login prompt is reached, modesetting works and running X multihead with xrandr seems to work normally. (workaround until the issue is solved)
    Changing from Early KMS start to Late KMS start means the black screen appears later, but it still appears.
    Booting with nomodeset works with the monitor plugged in, but means X fails to start with an error message about not finding any screens.
    The laptop is an old macbook, with integrated intel graphics card:

    Ok, I'm trying to collect information for a bug report, so if people could confirm or correct what I have so far and add any additional relevant information, that'd be very helpful.
    The fact that running the linux-lts kernel fixes the issue suggests that the problem almost certainly lies with the kernel.
    Comparing the date of my first post with /var/log/pacman.log, I believe the upgrade that first caused the issue to appear was this:
    upgraded linux (3.7.3-1 -> 3.7.4-1)
    (There is a very slim possibility that I managed to upgrade to 3.7.4 without actually rebooting into the previous kernel, in which case the issue could have been present in an earlier version, but I wouldn't have encountered it.)
    So far, the only graphics card affected appears to integrated intel chips:
    Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS(/GME), 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
    Has anyone observed this issue with a different graphics card? (check the output from entering "lspci" in a terminal if you're not sure how to find out)
    Finally, Wittfella found reinstalling from scratch fixed the issue. If someone can come up with a reasonable explanation as to *why* this fixed it (and ideally narrow it down to changes that can be made without reinstalling from scratch if at all possible), then it's possible that it's not an actual bug, so much as a poorly documented change that causes problems upgrading but is otherwise ok afterwards.

    Hi, folks.
    I cannot get my sound card to record anything, using a built-in microphone. Audio output works just fine, though. I hope someone can help me, I have been banging my head against the wall for some time over this issue...
    My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A200-1J0 (PSAE6E-04R036G3). alsamixer settings are fine, I tried supplementing additional options to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, but no luck, tried some of the combinations (model=<> position_fix=<>).
    When recording sound with gnome-sound-recorder, with Capture set as input, nothing is heard. Skype can't record anything, either. I can't even get the crackling or hissing sound like some users do.
    Should I try to get the latest ALSA?

    Hi there!
    I had the very same problem with the same soundcard and found this thread.
    The problem got solved for me by adding the same line as you have to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.
    However, I also had to create /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and add:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba power_save=0
    Notice the difference on the "model=toshiba" part.
    However, my laptop is not a Toshiba, but a Compal IFL90.
    I remember that in Ubuntu I needed(a long time ago) to add a line to /etc/alsa.conf with model=toshiba. I figured it might be worth a try, and well, it did.

  • Getting unknown error while changing pixels in export to wmv

    If I am exporting a wmv whit standard settings, no problems. But when I am changing the pixels in, for example, the height I am getting a unknown error????

    Try 
    stsadm -o  execadmsvcjobs
    and then run the last command
    stsadm.exe -o osearch -farmserviceaccount DomainName\UserName -farmservicepassword NewPassword
    if that doesn't help 
    stop and start search using command line below and run last command
    stsadm -o osearch -action stop
    then
    stsadm -o osearch -action start
